dilf simon slowly trying to earn your trust back. he takes a leave of absence from the military and moves into your spare bedroom to be closer to the baby. he has a habit of waking up early so as the days go by, he develops the habit of taking his baby out to the living room for tummy time and feeding while he makes breakfast in bed for you :(

but imagine having to teach simon everything first! you have to teach how to hold the baby, swaddle, change diapers, feed properly with the support of the boppie pillow, etc. he’s incredibly overwhelmed but he pushes through because he knows he can, and he wants to be the man that you and his baby deserve to have in your lives. he picks up books and joins groups to talk to other dads for support. he learns how to check the temperature from on of them and is surprised you never showed him, but he’s so excited to show you what he learned (“did you know your inner wrist is as sensitive as a babies mouth?”)

he tries so so hard to gain your trust, even if you two just end up co-parenting (though he’ll be devastated if that’s the reality, since i think he’s always imagined that white picket fence life that he never had)

It takes so long for him to gain your trust back because initially you want to slam that door in his face and tell him to fuck off (honestly, you probably do). But Simon Riley is a stubborn bastard and doesn't give up easy. I'd imagine this all happens after he's finally done with feild work for good- maybe has a base training job or something of the like where he (and by proxy you and your child) are no longer in danger. This hulking man standing in your doorway, head hung like a scolded dog but god you see the way he freezes up and stares at the baby in your arms with complete awe you can't help but give him the chance to prove himself.

It takes some time for him to learn how to take care of the little one, and you can see the fear in his eyes when it comes to taking care of something so small and fragile that you have to gently reassure him "it's alright, make sure you support his neck" the first time he holds his son :')

It also takes your son some time to get used to Simon being around. Your baby is a mamas boy through and through because you're all he knows! Simon, albeit a kind one, is just stranger to him so he may sniffle and cry the first few times simon goes to comfort him and christ it breaks his heart.

"it's just cause he doesn't know you, that's all."

He hears the unspoken message perfectly even if you don't mean for it to come out.

That being said? it's..nice. to have him around. The pregnancy took a lot out of you so your body needs any and all sleep it can get and Simon's internal clock is permanently set to waking up early like he's back in the 141 so it's quite normal for the morning to start with him slipping out of bed and getting the little one before you even crack open your eyes. He pads down the hallway from the guest room, wearing a pair of sweats and rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he walks into the nursery and sees your son fussing in his crib.

"I know, I know, but lets let mum have a bit more sleep, yeah? I'm here, I got you."

You wake up to him bouncing the little one on his hip while preparing breakfast and try not to focus too much on the way this domestic scene makes you feel.

Simon does the same.

It's a funny reversal of your roles from the beginning of your relationship. Simon doesn't ask you about the nature of your relationship, of your feelings for him, despite how much he wants to know. The irony isn't lost on him that this was the exact same position you found yourself in with him just a few years prior.

But there are moments where you pass off the little one to him so you can grab something from the shelf, where your son squeals with joy as his father kisses his tummy, where the two of you fall asleep on the couch in eachother's arms after putting your son to sleep that everything feels like it will be alright.

there’s a scene in supernatural where an angel tells dean that “the very touch of [dean] corrupts. from the moment castiel laid a hand on [dean] in hell he was lost”.

there’s a season of supernatural wherein cas is dead and dean is so depressed that death says “you want to die” to him (to which he does not respond) and then cas comes back and episode later and dean is smiling from ear to ear.

it is canon in supernatural that cas rebuilt dean’s body and soul “atom by atom” when he rescued dean from hell.

it is canon in supernatural that dean was so distressed by the fact that cas chose to stay behind in purgatory instead of leaving with dean, he created a false memory in which he had failed to get cas out, because he would rather have it be his fault than accept cas choosing not to be with him.

there’s a scene in supernatural where dean is on his knees while cas is brainwashed and beating the ever loving shit out of him and then dean says “i need you” and cas breaks through the brainwashing and stops hurting dean. except in that scene dean was actually supposed to say “i love you” but they changed it cause it was too gay but into “i need you” is gayer.

wait, hold on-- he blinks, seeing the gun clutched in oda's hand. had he blocked the bullet with his own weapon? unbandaged eye quickly assesses the damage, noting the only injury as a bruised head from where the force knocked oda to the ground. sorry, i'm a little accident-prone.

" oh jeeeeez. " dazai sighs dramatically as he falls back onto his butt. " you're so lucky odasaku! i wish i was accident-prone! " eye grows twice as wide as he looks at oda with childish awe. and yet he pouts with an equally-childish envy.
