#bonus vanity question: which of my fics did you like the most?
catty-words · 1 year
Note
So I’m new to the nhie fandom, watched for the first time like last month and with the teaser this is the first time I’m experiencing an active fandom for this show and not just reading a lot of fanfic and metas (thank u for your service on both fronts btw) and a part of me shouldnt really be that much surprised with how vitriolic fans of either “team” of the triangle would get with each other, cuz this isnt my first rodeo of ship wars and stuff, but similarly to you I really like both ships and have no hatred for either character and really dont get why anyone else would really tbh.
Still, I read a tweet a few days ago that I CANT get out of my mind no matter how much I try. A daxton shipper who said something among the lines of not wanting Devi to end up with her racist bully and like… I’m scratching my head trying to understand that. Bully I get it, dont agree with the interpretation, but I can see why someone would think that, but racist?? I can’t think of any moment of him being racist. Did I miss something? I’m genuinely asking cuz being a white latina who lives in LATAM is not like I know all the ins and outs of racial politics in the US, but like the only instance of racism that I can think of in Benvi interactions is the antisemitic comment Devi made in episode 2, but I dont think thats it.
ah, active fandom. a double-edged sword if ever there was one. i have curated my fandom experience to the extreme so i don't have to see uncharitable interpretations of either paxton or ben. bums me out too much tbh. also i'm not on twitter. that helps!
anyway, to answer your question, there are two major components to ben's racism (as far as i'm aware, could be there are more that i'm not sensitive to): ben's line about "it'll collect on your mustache" in 1.02 and ben calling devi 'david'.
the first plays into the way western beauty standards are oppressive to women of color. the second plays into the way any names that don't fit into a very narrow anglicization often get americanized anyway because white teachers and classmates won't even do the baseline work to pronounce people's names right.
now, the fact that the nickname undoubtedly contributes to a broader cultural insensitivity that affects real life people can and does exist alongside the writing itself having an affection for and therefore being unwilling to condemn the use of the nickname. speaking personally, i find it really easy to romanticize the nickname without losing sight of the fact that i have the privilege of finding it romantic because i've never had my name forcefully colonized.
now i'm gonna ask you a question, hopefully you don't mind! what was binging the first three seasons like? i'm mostly interested what stuck out to you, if you noticed the s2 tone shift that seemed/seems so drastic to me, if you have a favorite episode and/or season.
finally, welcome to the fandom! happy to have another person who can see the appeal of paxton and ben. 🌻

I’m the CEO of showing up late to everything. Here’s a modern AU fic I wrote on wattpad for Arno’s birthday last year :)
Tumblr media
Bon Anniversaire
(Y/n) looked down at her lover in awe as she balanced the tray in her hands, settling it on the edge of the bed before sitting daintily on the edge and leaning down to cup Arno's face with one of her hands, pressing a soft yet firm kiss to his lips, fingertips caressing his jaw as she peppered the corner of his mouth in kisses and left lingering ones on his soft lips.
He groaned slightly before kissing her back, waking up. His hands went to the sides of her neck, thumbs caressing her jaw as she slowly pulled away and gently brushed some disarrayed hair away from his face.
"Morning, birthday boy." She spoke with a teasing grin as she sat upright. Arno pushed himself up so that he was leaning against the headboard. She placed the tray on his lap and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "I made you breakfast."
He smiled warmly at her as she crossed her legs on the mattress. She hadn't dressed yet thus she wore one of his shirts with little else underneath. However, her (h/c) hair was nearly done into a bun with a light grey scrunchie from where she had made his morning meal and didn't want it in the way. He reached for her hand, rubbing circles on the back of her palm with his thumb in an appreciative gesture.
"You're too sweet." He cooed.
"Hey, it's your birthday, I get to spoil you. Now eat up before it gets cold then get dressed, I'm taking you out." She piped up before leaving to get ready herself, knowing that she took a lot longer than he did.
Arno watched as she reached into the wardrobe and picked out an outfit before turning her back to him to dress. He had seen her naked countless times but she was always shy nonetheless.
As she pulled off his shirt, revealing that she wore nothing else underneath, he let out a whistle. She laughed at this and looked over her shoulder to where he was staring and her nude ass.
"Hey, focus on your food else you'll choke." She scolded as she pulled on a pair of pants and clipped a bra into place, a matching set of pale pink lace with tiny little jewels stuck to them that caught the light when she moved. They were very see-through and left little to the imagination.
She pulled on a pair of beige pants and tossed on a thin white shirt to go with it. She tucked this into the trousers before doing up the belt and then pulled on a pair of socks before sitting to do her hair and makeup.
By the time she had finished her eyebrows, Arno was done and walked over to the mirror where he sat down on the floor beside her.
(Y/n) did own a vanity but it got used as more of a desk, a space where she would write or paint and stuffed all her pencils and paints into the drawers that had been intended for makeup alongside skin and hair products. However, she never grew out of the habit of sitting on the floor in front of a full-length mirror.
"You're stealing all the mirror space again." Arno pouted playfully as he kneeled behind her in order to be able to see what he was doing. (Y/n) giggled playfully as she curled her lashes and put a pair of dangling pink heart earrings on. She threw on a pale pink lace choker and a golden floral necklace before tipping her head back to get an upside-down view of her lover.
"Can I do your hair?" She smiled as he looked down at her.
"That depends, are we going out?" He replied with a question.
"Yes."
"Then absolutely not." He glanced down to see her pout and furrow her brows, glossy bottom lip jutting out.
"Please? I'll give you like 20 pretty bonus points." She grinned giddily.
"Bonus points?" Arno quizzed as he took a seat.
"Well, yeah, because you're already a god. This will just add to it." She made her way behind him and took the hairbrush from his hands, gently untangling his long hair.
"A god, huh?" He quoted amusedly.
"Eros wants what you have, chéri (darling). Apollo could never." She hummed as she parted his hair with the end of a comb. She set one half aside to add a twist to the other before gathering it all at the nape of his neck. She put her hand out to signal that she needed a hairband and Arno placed one into her expecting palm. She expertly tied it into his usual ponytail before parting it above the band and slipping it through itself to create another little twist to it. "Ok, I'll let you add your ribbon because I can never get the bow right." She spoke as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, leaning her head beside his and admiring him in the mirror. "Please don't ever cut your hair short, I adore it." She added with a kiss to his temple before pulling back to grab her purse, keys and phone to throw into her light blue bag. She shoved her feet into a pair of grey trainers while Arno dressed.
He put on a pair of light grey trousers with a Louis Vuitton belt and a white shirt that showed off his defined torso underneath. He tossed a denim jacket onto his shoulders and sat down to put on a pair of black boots.
"Do you want to know where we're going?" (Y/n) hummed as she leaned on the doorframe to their room.
"Sure." He stole a glance in her direction.
"Only your favourite museum." (Y/n) smiled. Arno had taken her there so many times that she had lost count. She adored it but not as much as he did. She delighted in watching his face light up as he told her all his knowledge on the exhibits and related historical topics. Arno was very proud of his country's history and many of the countless books which he owned were dedicated to it. He was a lover of classical culture and Baroque society. He adored music and art and literature and the like, valuing the beauty and knowledge it all had to offer.
That's what really made them click.
"The Louvre. . ." He spoke, drawling out his French accent that lit up a fire in her no matter how many times she heard it. It was a very touristy location but that didn't put him off from the history which it had to offer. "As much as I adore it, my favourite piece of it is in fact not an exhibit but it's a memory."
"And what would that memory be?" She prompted with a knowing smile.
"The first time I saw you, admiring the renaissance art. You looked gorgeous admiring it. Though, I can't remember what the painting was, I can recall you telling me all about Adonis and Aphrodite and red roses." He mused as he made his way towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close in a loving embrace, "And you could tell me something about the context of each painting while I followed you around. I'd never met someone so enthusiastic about historical art before. Especially not someone so adorable. . . Two complete strangers lavishing in the knowledge and company of the other in the closing hours of the museum."
"I was sure I'd half-bored you to death and you'd never call the number that I gave you." She giggled, "I was just as surprised to find someone as interested as I am, let alone someone so handsome." She reached up onto his toes to give him a sweet kiss, her hands running up his chest. "But let's go hop on the train, I've got a lot planned for today."
"Oh? You do?" The Frenchman smiled as she took his hand, intertwining their fingers as she led him outside of their home above Arno's historic café theâtré.
"Indeed, I do." She hummed as she grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer, standing on her toes to plant a kiss on his lips. When she fell back into her feet, Arno wrapped an arm around her waist, the two of them making their way to the metro.
Paying their fare, they waited on the platform in the blistering heat of the metro. It was rush hour so it was a difficulty to squeeze in with all the other passengers. Luckily, they managed to get into a carriage with fewer people than most. Arno held onto the support above his head while the other arm made its way around (Y/n)'s waist, holding her close to make sure she didn't lose her balance.
She warmly rested her hands against him as her head leaned on his chest. He pressed little kisses to the top of her head, coaxing her to look up so that he could give her a much more tender kiss on her lips.
She quickly pulled away, hiding her hot cheeks against his neck. Arno cooed at her lovingly and amusedly, giving her (b/t) waist a squeeze. Arno adored showing his affection for her in public but (Y/n) was always shy about it. To begin with, she wouldn't even hold his hand in public but she eventually grew comfortable with his hand holding hers or his arm slung over her shoulders or around her waist. He had been trying to warm her up to kisses in public too but it was a process and, clearly, she was still far too shy.
A few stops later, they were getting off at the nearest station. As soon as they had climbed the stairs, the whoosh of cold air was a relief in comparison to the hot, humid and stuffy air that was underground. It was enough to make one feel lightheaded, especially in the August heat.
The next few minutes were a blur as all (Y/n) could focus on was Arno's smile. That smile was so rare that she couldn't help but stare whenever it came out, she couldn't bear to miss a second of its presence on his handsome features.
She was only snapped out of her daze once they were inside and admiring all the exhibits they had seen before and many which were new.
The entire time, Arno kept an arm around her waist. They paused in front of a baroque painting, (Y/n) snuggling against Arno's chest as they admired the art together. He looked down at her briefly, smiling at the contact, before turning back to the painting.
"I can imagine you modelling for a painting." Arno hummed, the two of them enjoying having the particular room to themselves.
"Really?" (Y/n) questioned, amusement in her tone.
"Oui (yes). . . But it would do you no justice. The painting would be breathtaking but nowhere near your true beauty. It wouldn't be able to capture you well enough and you cannot convey such intellect and personality into a picture."
"What's with the flattery, hmm?" She teased. "All the same could apply to you, why am I getting the spotlight on your birthday? Let me spoil you for once." She poked his chest almost accusingly as she smiled up at him.
"Mon ange (my angel). . ." He sighed with a tone of 'you-should-know-this-by-now' in his voice, "You cannot expect me to simply turn off my adoration for a day, can you?"
"Stop it! I'm treating you today!" She pouted, making Arno laugh heartily, hand trailing to the back of her head and gently tangling in her hair, caressing the silky locks there.
They continued around the museum, telling each other things they both already knew but told one another anyway, delighting in hearing the enjoyment of the other sharing what they knew.
♡♡♡
A few hours later, they were thoroughly done with the museum and all its exhibits, therefore, (Y/n) led him outside and back down to the metro.
"Where are we heading to now then, mon amour (my love)?" He quizzed as he watched her body sway with the train.
"I'm treating you to lunch." She winked, adoring the ghost of a smile that he flashed her. He knew that she wasn't too keen on leaving the house so the fact that she had arranged everything for today just meant all the more to him.
"Oh? Where?" He prompted.
"That fancy place where you took me for our fifth date." She stood up proudly as his face dropped.
"(Y/n), that's far too expensive!" He exclaimed.
"Not for someone who's been saving since New Year's and certainly not for a couple with a reservation in half an hour." She spoke cheekily. Arno wasn't sure what to think: on one hand, he was flattered that she'd gone to such an extent but on the other, he felt a little bad that she was spending so much money on him.
"Fine. As long as the presents aren't too expensive." He said.
"No promises there, love." The (e/c)-eyed female muttered under her breath.
Arno was about to protest when the train stopped and a group of guys got on, standing between them. (Y/n) averted her eyes away from them, looking up at the adverts inside the carriage instead.
After one stop, one of them was standing too close for (Y/n)'s comfort. He had more than enough room, so why was he brushing shoulders with her? She shied away, not wanting to fuel him by giving him any form of her attention. It only took another thirty seconds for her breath to hitch in her throat as an unfamiliar hand rested on her hip and glided down to her ass.
She was so shocked and scared that she lost her words altogether, shooting Arno a distressed look instead. As soon as he caught her gaze, he knew something was wrong and pushed his way through the group of men to wrap his arm around (Y/n), pushing her behind him.
"Hey, what's going on here?" He narrowed his honey-brown eyes at the man who had been standing far too close for comfort. He had a thick brown beard and wore a blue and white striped shirt.
"Nothing. Is something happening that I'm not aware of?" He retorted, depending on (Y/n)'s obvious quiet nature to enforce his lie.
"Arno, come on, there's no need to make a big deal out of it. I'm used to stuff like this happening." She spoke softly, hoping to ease his clearly growing anger.
"All the more reason to make a big deal out of it." He never once took his eyes off the man, "Keep your hands to yourself." He spoke through gritted teeth.
"Fine, fine, I didn't know she had a boyfriend." He held up his hands in defence. By now, other people on the train were watching the scene unfold.
"That's no excuse!" Arno exclaimed, "You can't just go around-" the doors opened and (Y/n) tugged on his sleeve strongly.
"Arno, come on. Let's get the next train. Please, for my sake." She negotiated. Arno shot a hateful glare towards the man as he stepped onto the platform and the train went off.
"We'll catch the next train, love." (Y/n) rubbed her hand up his arm to ease him but he remained tense.
"Does this happen often?" He furrowed his brows.
"That's a talk for tomorrow, don't let this ruin your day." She soothed, him agreeing that it should be left for later and letting go of it, storing it away to be dealt with at a later time.
♡♡♡
Fully satisfied with their meal and a day of roaming Paris's parks, Arno and (Y/n) returned back to the café theâtré.
She was a mess of excited smiles and giggles as she dragged him up to their shared bedroom which was illuminated by the golden light of the setting sun. She grabbed his shoulders and playfully forced him down onto the thick, fluffy rug in front of the fireplace which had been lit by a maid (him having a lot of money came with its perks).
He watched his lover, both curious and excited as she reached into the wardrobe to collect a few wrapped gifts, sitting down opposite him with the presents in the middle.
"(Y/n). . ." He looked up to meet her eyes gratefully yet guiltily, "How much did you spend on today?"
"I spent my money on what I wanted to. . . And that happened to be you so: enjoy." She smiled adoringly as she placed the first gift in his hands. He looked up at her, wanting to scold her for splashing all her money on him and yet he couldn't deny her that smile or the spark of delight in her eyes. "Come on!" She exclaimed, bouncing on the spot impatiently, her grin widening. The Frenchman gave in, reflecting her smile as he opened the first gift, pulling the ribbon on the gift bag in order to get inside.
He reached inside it and pulled out a black trench coat, peering at the label to spot the designer branding. He looked over it and shot his smiling girlfriend an appreciative glance, letting it fall to his lap so that he could reach out for her hand.
"You know exactly what I like, don't you?" He spoke.
"You spoke about wanting it in the store around two months ago. . ." She shrugged, "So I ordered it online and hid it in the loft until now." He raised a brow as he picked up the next gift, a wrapped box. He tore off the shiny teal paper to reveal a box of his favourite cologne. That was something they both had done since they started to date: she bought his colognes and he bought her perfumes. He smiled at her again, placing it beside him on top of his coat.
"I'm going to have to go broke by the time your birthday comes around." He joked.
"Hey, stop thinking about the money." She poked his leg as she leaned towards him.
"Ok, ok," he gave in, holding up his hands in surrender, "I just feel bad because—"
"Oh my god!" She exclaimed, her smile not faltering, "I love you! I love you, I love you, I love you!" She got up onto her knees to lean into him, over the small pile of gifts, "I don't care how much money I spend on you! I adore you! I adore the way you smile when you open them." A kiss was planted on his cheek while her hand cupped his jaw. "C'mon, next one." She placed it in his hands.
It was a small gift and when he tore off the paper, he was holding a velvet drawstring bag in his hands. He gave (Y/n) a curious look before opening it up and tipping out the contents inside.
A beaded bracelet fell onto his palm — all-black beads with one red bead. It seemed somewhat familiar and he glanced to her left wrist where she wore an identical one.
"The card explains what they are." She said, "Dedication bracelets. It's kind of silly, I know. But. . ." She shrugged, "I thought that the idea of it was sweet." He slipped it onto his wrist and leaned forward to cup her face in his large hands, pressing a sweet kiss to her lips.
"It's not silly." He hummed when he pulled away, keeping their faces close, "It's cute of you." She let out a little giggle, cheeks heating with a blush, and ran her hands over his shoulders.
"Ok. For the last gift, you have to close your eyes." She chuckled. Arno, albeit suspiciously, closed his eyes and relied on his hearing to piece together what was going on. He could hear shuffling in front of him before he felt a warmth and weight on his lap. Her hands caressed his chest as he hovered her lips by his ear. "Open." She whispered.
He opened his eyes and his hands found her waist. She wore only the pale pink undergarments that he had so briefly spotted that morning. He admired the way the softly coloured lace complimented her (s/t) skin tone and the way it hugged her beautiful (b/t) figure. It had little gems that shone in the light of the fire with the rise and fall of her chest.
Her lips grazed his when she spoke:
"Let me spoil you one last time before the day's over."

Part 1 - Intruder
Hi could would you be interested in writing a Bane fic were he and one or two of his men need to hideout, and they come across this home kinda of hidden away or in an isolated area and a girl lives there on her own. He decides to keep her alive and eventually they fall for each other. I'd also like him to to be kinda mean and dominant. + She has to stay in main room with bane so he can make sure she doesn't escape😉 I'm sensing a smutty imagine. I like my bane a Dom with choking of course. I don't ask for much do I 🤣🤣
Part 2
Tumblr media
———————————————————————
The mountains were tall, overlooking the lit city. Lights lined the buildings for the Christmas season, various shades of red and green. Trees twinkled with applied lights and music played in the distance, tempting people to come to their establishments and enjoy the holiday season. Bane straightened on the cliff. The jacket he wore was bulky with a line of fur, but it wasn’t doing much to protect him from the cold air that whipped around him and his men. Beneath his boots, pebbles and stones bounced from the impact of his shoe and rolled off the side of the ledge, falling down, down, down until they met the ground. It was probably a seventy foot drop. Bane wasn’t on the run. He was never on the run, he didn’t have to worry about someone overpowering him, but he did need a place to sleep at night and because his home had been invaded by the scum of the earth, he couldn’t exactly return there.
“Boss.” The shorter one of his men spoke up. His name was Oscar. “Don’t see no lights on.” He informed his leader. They needed a place to stay for the night, it didn’t matter if it was cold as well and didn’t have any source of heat, at least there would be a roof over their head. This had been the perfect spot. It was high, up out of most people’s eye line and it looked worn and abandoned. The exterior needed a lot of work done and the man was sure that the interior was just the same, but he didn’t care. Not tonight. Tonight, he just needed a bed. Bane’s boots hit the floor loudly as he made his way up the rest of the path and toward the front door. It was silent, not even the wind dared to whistle. He extended his arm, hand curling around the rusted handle before he twisted it. The wood opened without much force and creaked due to the rusted, stiff hinges. He rubbed his lips together before looking around the room. It was dusty and dark, impossible to see anything. He set his hand on the wall, tracing the soft wallpaper until his pointer finger skimmed the light switch. He flicked it on and froze at the sight.
The sink was lined with dirty dishes and it was void of a faucet. Ants raced along the countertop, no doubt fighting to get speckles and crumbs from the remaining food on the plates. Cabinets were opened here and there and the floor looked as if it were in desperate need of a deep cleansing. But Bane wasn’t fussy about any of that, no, he was a little more worried about the girl fast asleep at the kitchen table.
Your hair fell across the surface in messy waves. Despite the filthy home, you didn’t look anywhere near as bad as the place did. He squinted toward you, inspecting your features. You looked just fine. Oscar exchanged a look with Larry, Bane’s other helper, before looking back toward you. He figured this was just a bonus. They had a hostage, something to play with while they waited for morning. But bane had no intentions of harming you — scaring you, maybe, but only so you’d comply. They needed to stay here at least for the night, so they’d be doing that. Whether you said yes or not.
Bane’s thigh bumped the table on accident and the wooden legs wobbled threateningly. The motion startled your slumbering form and scared you even further when your eyes fluttered open. Glistening pools of curiosity and fear latched on to the bald man’s blue eyes. His lips twitched before dragging upwards. He pasted a sickeningly sweet smile on his lips and set his large palm down on the dirty table. A hostage wasn’t a part of the plan, but he was to expect the unexpected. Running his tongue over his lips, his mouth parted as he readied himself to speak, but your sudden movement ceased his words. The chair you were sat in groaned out noisily as the legs scraped along the tile. You rose up hurriedly, breaths deep and shallow, causing your chest to rise and fall rapidly with your worried inhales and exhales. Bane watched you under a heated gaze. No fear danced in his orbs. Why would it? He wasn’t on his own. He didn’t have someone breaking in and waking him. You swallowed thickly, unable to get a single word of question or a believable threat out. Instead, you stood glued to the spot, fingers shaking as your body followed suit.
“Look at her, boss, she’s trembling.” Oscar spoke up. The man was smaller than the surrounding occupants of the room, but that didn’t stop him from being confident enough to approach. The black vest he wore matched his dark trousers. Around his waist, he had a holster and tucked away inside was no doubt a dangerous weapon. You quivered. The soles of your feet scraped the wooden floors as you backed up. He neared without hesitation. “Come here, darling, I don’t bite.”
Run. Your brain pleaded. Cry. Your mind screamed. Beg. Your brain warned. They were going to kill you. Why else were they here? The small bloke grabbed ahold of your wrist and twisted it painfully around your back. His strength didn’t match his stature so it took you by surprise. You weren’t a fighter though. You were quiet, kept to yourself. Obedient. Sweet. Gentle. Too pure for the pain and heartache that the world offered to the city below. That’s why you lived on your own in a dump. Nobody bothered you and you didn’t bother anybody — until now. Bane growled out softly.
“Easy.” He droned. The heavy thud of his boots was enough warning to silence the building cry in your throat. A painful tingle raced along the length of your arm, tearing at the nerves. “Let her go.” Bane demanded. Oscar did so without question. Your arm fell limply to your side. Rubbing the soreness to ease the pain would look weak and you knew that was the last thing that you needed to look right now. Bane crinkled his nose before stepping around the table and moving toward you. Fuzzy-minded and bleary-eyed from your sleep, you sniffled before looking toward him. “Do you speak?” He asked. It was then, as your brain began to register everything other than ‘intruders’, that you realized he wore a mask on his face. It embraced the lower half of him and created a loud hiss underneath his words. You had to strain your ears in order to comprehend him.
“Yes.” The tone of your voice was so soft. Soft enough to make bane want to take your tender throat in his palm and push you out the front door so you could be on your way. But that was too risky. He didn’t want the police showing up.
“Good.” He uttered. He didn’t look toward you further, he simply paced the length of the kitchen before coming to a stop at the counter. Photographs were laid out messily, some stained with unknown substances. He traced the corner of one with his finger before tonguing his cheek. “We need a place to stay.” He looked back toward you. “And we’ve chosen your house.”
“Lucky girl.” Larry chortled out. He sneered. A sickening smile resided on his lips and his eyes warned you to sleep with one eye open. Bane looked to Larry with a warning glare before moving his eyes back to you. Scaring you wasn’t going to do the trick. That was for when you disobeyed or acted like a brat. He inspected you closely. Faint freckles, gleaming hair, soft appearing skin and inviting eyes. He stepped toward you when you didn’t speak. What were you meant to say. ‘No’? A lot of good that would do you.
“It’ll just be for the night.” He assured you. There was no question in his tone. He wasn’t asking, he was telling. “Oscar and Larry.” He pointed toward the table. “Here’s your bed.” His eyes moved back to you. “And you, wherever your bed is, that’s my bed.” The fear in your eyes doubled, and the urge to grab a nearby knife was suffocatingly strong. But it would be so foolish. God knew what kind of weapon he had on him.
“I don’t..” Bane cocked a brow as you spoke up, testing you to deny him.
“Let me tell you something.” He stepped toward you. His hand lifted to your chin, fingers delicate as they traced your flesh. “It’ll do you no good to talk back or disagree. Comply and you’ll be alright.” He lowered his hand to the throat he’d wished to take ahold of earlier. “Bedroom.” He stated again. He felt your esophagus twitch beneath his palm as you swallowed. His grip wasn’t tight or hard so you drew back a step and swiftly stepped around him. He followed hot on your heels, blue eyes twinkling.
The living room was a wreck. Newspapers and old food sat in the place. Flies buzzed, flying from dish to dish to devour whatever was left behind and uneaten. Empty soda cans laid on their sides on the floor and coffee table and smoke poured from the fire place, a sign that the lit flame had died. You moved to the corridor and led him down the tan-painted hall to the bedroom at the end of the way. The door opened without so much as a creak. A bed resided in the center with a blue duvet. It wasn’t the biggest bed, but it would suffice. A window sat in the far right with a nearby vanity jammed pack with various knick-knacks. This was the cleanest room.
“It’s.. this is the only room.” You explained to him. “A.. apart from the bathroom which is just right there.” Pointing to the connected room which held a tub and a toilet, you folded your arms over your chest and slowly backed up.
“Itll do.” He told you quietly. He removed his weaponless holster and then his belt. Draping the accessories over the chair in the corner, he scratched the back of his head before looking toward you. “You can return to the dining room to sleep,” He ushered to the door with his pointer finger. “or stay here with me.” He licked his lips. “But you are to remain under someone’s watch at all times.” Your eyes flickered.
“You mean until morning?” Your question made bane frown.
“I mean.. until it’s safe to go.” His earlier words had been a brief comfort. Oscar and Larry were oblivious to the fact that they’d be hiding out here for a while. But Bane, he called they shots, so they wouldn’t complain. “You don’t get in my way and I won’t be in yours.” He pointed to the bed. “Now, you choose. Bed or table?” His hands moved along his stomach, rubbing the surface before he stepped toward the bed and climbed on to the comfy surface. You slowly followed after him. He didn’t seem to want to hurt you. Or touch you. But the other men.. you didnt trust them in the slightest. This one, you were sure, would’ve let them do as they pleaded and would’ve told you to ‘undress’ or ‘lay down’ if his intentions were to cause physical harm. But he didn’t. He laid down and shut his eyes. But you could tell he certainly wasn’t sleeping.
‘I don’t want to share a bed with you.’ ‘Get out.’ Stab him. Hit him. Run. Climb out the window. Scream as loud as possible. Your mind warned you to do this and that, urged you to get out and away, but you didn’t. Anxiety raced through your body and made you fidget. The quiet sound of your feet padding against the floor told Bane that you’d chosen to stay with him, and when the bed began to jiggle beneath your applied weight, it merely confirmed his initial assumption.
There wasn’t much space, but the two of you managed. He was slumped on his back and you were laid on your side, elbow folded beneath your head to act as an extra pillow. The duvet was crumpled beneath his body and the pillows were crookedly placed. You didn’t want to ask him to move though so you could curl up, so instead, you shivered at his side. So many questions filled your head. You wanted answers, but your throat was dry, tight, and it was impossible to get even a squeak of sound out. You squirmed slightly, legs accidentally skimming his own now and then. He didn’t say anything and you didn’t either. Little mumbled apologies were vacant and he didn’t offer to scoot over to give you more room.
He was so tired. He’d been on his feet all day. Bane knew it was rather foolish to fall asleep so quickly, leaving himself vulnerable to you, but there was no controlling the situation — and you, even if you had the courage to harm him, wouldn’t.
———
The embarrassment of the filthy home hit you in the morning. The sun was rising in the distance, it’s rays beginning to pour through open windows to wake the slumbering people, tucked away in their beds. You’d managed to leave the bedroom, undetected and had had about an hour to clean. The other two men who’d come along with the bald one in your bedroom were nowhere to be seen, so you’d taken advantage of their absence. The kitchen table was scrubbed clean and the dishes in the sink were halfway done. You knew it was foolish to worry about cleaning so the intruders didn’t find you repelling, but it was more than that. It was just the judgement that bothered you - it didn’t matter who it came from.
What a poor choice to leave the room without the man in the mask.
Their fingers were rough in your hair as they twisted and tugged, fighting over you. Your hipbones dug roughly into the counter you were learn against, Larry tugging you toward him as he shouted at Oscar. ‘I got first dibs, let her go’, he insisted. Oscar would then yank on you harder, bruising your scalp more so than Larry was. You winced. You pleaded. You moaned out. Internally, you begged for their boss to wake seeing as last night he didn’t seem like he was here to deal with any shenanigans. You moaned out again when Oscar lost his grip on your hair and your body was thrown into Larry’s. He didn’t have an amazing grip though either because the suddenness of your body against his made him topple over and to the floor.
Run. You did. Fool. To the bedroom. Why hadn’t you gone to the front door? Oscar was hot on your heels, sprinting along behind you to try and get to you before you could get to Bane. The door to your bedroom was thrown open roughly. The sound of it was enough to wake the man on the bed, but if it hadn’t of done it then your weight, slung on top of his own, would’ve. Bane woke with a straight face, but internally he was stunned. He sat up tiredly, eyes squinted and brows furrowed in confusion. He looked to you, curled up in a small ball at his side as a panting Oscar stood in the doorway with angry eyes and a fling of regret. And then revenge. You shifted, fearfully cowering away.
Bane sat up further, shielding you from the piercing gaze of Oscar.
“Out.” He ordered harshly. The man in the door obeyed. He twisted around and left the room without so much as an apology. The booming voices, belonging to Oscar and Larry were suddenly overlapping. Arguing. Fighting because they knew they were in trouble. Idiots. “Are you alright?” His question was dripping with concern, but it was genuine. He stood from the mattress, beginning to re-dress in the attire he’d removed the previous night.
“Your men..” You started before falling silent. This wouldn’t help. He was aware of what happened. He didn’t need a play-by-play. “I’m fine.” You whispered out. He nodded. Bane didn’t have time for this. Trouble was following and because he wasn’t a runner, he was a confronter, he needed to know what was happening at all times. Having to go down the hall and shout at grown men for trying to mess around with a younger, female hostage — it just pissed him off. It didn’t help in the slightest, it just slowed him down. He zipped the vest up before leaving the room to handle what has woken him. You curled up on your side and buried your face into your pillow before letting your eyes shut. Your fingers crossed slowly, a silent pray for the men in your dining room to leave today. What would you do if bane came back in and told you they had to stay for more time than he’d said last night. A day, okay. But any more than that.. you didn’t know what would happen.
It was then, in that moment that you realized you were on your own. You climbed off the bed hurriedly, bane’s words playing over and over in your head about how you would always be under someone’s watch. The doors to your closet opened with a loud creak. Your dainty fingers wrapped in a yellow blouse, yanking it out before you then grabbed a pair of jeans. Practically tearing your pajamas from your body, you struggled to move at a quick pace, clothing yourself in something much more appropriate before the return of Bane. And if you had time.. maybe you could get out the cracked window. It was only two stories high. Not too far of a jump. But the sudden sound of thudding boots in the hall made you freeze. Clad only in your underwear, blouse, and a pair of socks, you whimpered out in sudden anxiousness. The attempt to pull on your trousers while also watching the door was poor. Bane was seconds away from stumbling into the room to check on you and you.. well your jeans were only halfway on.
“Alright,” He spoke before he was even in the room. “I’m sorry about that, they’re both absolute idiots.” He continued to talk, his rough voice carrying down the length of the hall. “But you,” He turned the corner, just as you fastened the button on the front of your slacks. “are to tell me if they bother you again. I’ll ensure it doesn’t happen again.” It wasn’t going to anyway. Neither of them would even think about doing vile things to you after what he’d said to them. His tongue pushed against his cheek, hidden by the plastic mask on his face. “But, unfortunately for you,” He inhaled deeply, blue eyes locking on to your own as he stood in the doorway. “We are going to be here for at least a few more days.”
Your body ran hot. Skin on fire. Mouth run dry. The shiver that raced along your spine made you feel weak. No arguing, no complaining, no disagreeing. He wasn’t asking. He was telling. And all you could do was nod. You didn’t have a choice.

I stood in the massive closet of my new room looking through the many cocktail dresses that now belonged to me.
“As Junmyeon’s fiancé you will end up going with him to many parties and...well...gatherings of sorts. It’s only fair that you wear the best clothes to those events...” Minseok had said, showing me to the closet, “The rest of the time you’ll probably be here in the penthouse doing what every you want, wearing whatever you like...however, those dresses over there are what would be more suitable for tonight.”
The clothes in the closet I had to admit were wonderful, however, the cocktail dresses...normal circumstance I would have no issues wearing a dress with a low back or see through sides but....
“We have an hour before we...” Junmyeon stopped, when he heard me let out a squeak and grip a dress close to my bra and panty clad body, “Forgive me, I...” He stopped, eyes zeroing in on the bruises on my side and back before turning around. “Put the dress on...” I did as I was told and as I was struggling with the zipper, a pair of hands came and replaced mine. “Did your father do this to you?”
“Yes...” I replied honestly.
He let out a agrivated sigh as he zipped up the back of the dress. “I have a rule about harming women and children...in EXO unless deemed a threat, women and children are off limits. Your father...though I admire how he’s been able to build and sustain his empire for as long as he has...never drawn that line.”
“This isn’t that bad...compared to some,” I said, stepping away from him when he was done with the zipper, “I’ll finish getting ready, sorry for taking so long.” I walked out of the closet and over to the vanity where I began working on my hair and makeup.
“I had heard rumors that he was abusive,” he said, leaning against the doorframe, “That’s why I said what I did earlier to get you to sign the contract. I didn’t realize that I was as bad as it was.”
“You were right though,” I stated, looking at him through the mirror, “What would have happened if I hadn’t signed the contract today? This bruise was for me telling him that I didn’t want to do something because I had a migraine.” I could see his expression darken at this information and I broke eye contact with him. “I try not to dwell on this too much...the bruise will go away eventually. For now however I would like to finish my hair and makeup.”
“This is a casino?” I questioned, looking at the large warehouse that the car had stopped in front of.
“It’s not your average casino...let’s just say, you have to be on a guest list,” he replied before holding his arm for me to take. As we walked closer to the building I could hear voices from inside; laughing, shouting, cheering, cussing. “Stay close to me, don’t take a drink from anyone unless I give the okay, and if by chance we get separated...you immediately go find one of the men you met at the penthouse, understood?”
“Yes...” I replied.
Stepping inside I could see why it was only a “casino of sorts”. There were no slot machines or different things like that; this was an underground gambling party. Many of the people there were wearing masquerade masks to hide their identity, those not wanting others to know about their gambling addictions, high amount of money loss, or even their fascination with rooster fights. Those wearing the masks were most likely not apart of the underworld, but they enjoyed the risk and reward of playing these types of high dollar games. And the one who had all the names was standing right next to me.
Junmyeon walked over to the poker table and sat across from Minseok who had already accumulated a large sum of cash.
“Ah, Suho...glad you could join us, I thought you might have forgotten about this evening,” a man said, raising his bet, “And who, might I ask, is this pretty little thing that you brought with you. You never bring guests.”
“Suho brought a guest?” a middle aged woman questioned, leaning into the conversation, “Wait don’t tell me...she’s Lee Changsun’s daughter, he was boasting about how he was finally getting her married off.”
The poker table went quiet as eyes turned to Suho, waiting for an answer. “She is my fiancé,” he said as Baekhyun came over to the table and handed him a couple stacks of cash and poker chips, “As for the rest of it, I don’t see how that information is any of your business.”
“Oh oh ooooooh,” the man said, becoming interested, “So you’ve brought her to show her off. I wouldn’t expect you to show your fiancé off like that Suho.”
“At least I have a woman here that knows how to dress unlike, the woman you brought last time, now are we going to play or talk?” he questioned.
I stood there watching as the game began, now vaguely uninterested in what was happening. Was I brought there to be shown off as a trophy? Or was there another reason the Junmyeon just hadn’t explained.
Thousands of dollars gained and lost on all sides; for most though, the dollar amounts were insignificant to their bank accounts. Only pennies compared to the amount that the had in the bank, stocks, and personal belongings.
Suddenly Junmyeon pulled me down into his lap. “The man who I was talking to earlier,” he started, whispering in my ear, “He has a weakness for pretty women, he’s been eyeing you all night, just sit here...smile and look pretty, hmm?”
“You brough me here as a distraction?” I whispered back.
“Yes, he has something I want...and if he loses...I will get it,” he said.
“Will you to love birds hurry it up,” Jongin said from the end of the table. From the smirk on his face he obviously knew what was going on, and he was trying to help play along.
Either way, I was already stuck in the predicament. So I looked at Junmyeon and nodded giving him the best smile i could. “That’s my girl,” he stated, gently running his hand down my back
“Looks like Suho is so confident in winning he’s already planning his victory celebration,” the man said, giving us both a smirk.
I quickly looked away from the man before he could see me blush. I wasn’t a prude who wanted no mention of the idea of sex around me. I like a good smut novel every now and again, movies with sex scenes were fine, and well since I hadn’t exactly had a man in my life...a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. However, here I am...sitting on Junmyeon’s lap and a man makes a joke about him planning a “victory celebration”. Which in that case could only mean one thing. And though I know that is not happening and I do not want it to happen, the thought makes me a little shy.
The game continues and players slowly dwindle down until there are only Junmyeon and the man left. I can feel the man’s eyes on me as Junmyeon and I “flirt” with each other between hands and Junmyeon is right, he is becoming distracted. Losing hand after hand, making me wonder why he continued if he was so distracted.
The man was about to say something when suddenly the doors to the warehouse flew open and men yelling “police” charged in. Everyone began to scatter, money all but forgotten on the tables. Junmyeon pulled me off his lap, grabbed my hand and began to run.
“Wait, wait,” I said, stopping him. He shot me an angry look until he saw me throw off my high heels.
After that we took off running again; running down deserted alleys and cutting threw abandoned warehouses it felt as though we had been running for miles. I wasn’t used to this kind of running; sure I had used a treadmill...but nothing like this. Not only that I could feel shards of glass and other things tearing into the bottom of my feet.
A van pulled up ahead of us and the door slid open, Baekhyun popping his head out.  Junmyeon pulled me into the van and it sped off.
“How...how did you find us?” I questioned.
“GPS in boss’s phone,” he replied, holding up a tablet.
Once at the penthouse Junmyeon had carried me the whole way up and to my room. I had lied in the van when I told him I could walk, but by the time we had gotten to the building some of the adrenaline was wearing off and as soon as I tried to stand the searing pain in my feet cause me to collapse. Not only that, he didn’t want me to get bloody footprints all over the place.
Yixing, a man that I hadn’t met until now was the one who came to my room to take care of my feet. Looking at my feet he was actually astonished that I made it as far as I did.
“It was your idea?” he questioned as be began to remove the glass, “You decided to take off your heels without anyone telling you to?”
“I wouldn’t be able to run,” I replied, “If I had left them on we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we did.”
“Well, I supposed you’re correct, but at the same time, one or two of these may need a stitch or two,” he said.
It took him quite a while to get all of the glass out of my feet, and then he got everything bandaged up. “Here’s some painkillers,” he said, setting a bottle on the nightstand, “Directions are on the bottle if you choose to take them.”
“Thank you,” I said, as he began to leave.
“You’re very welcome Ms. Y/N...let’s hope you don’t have to be under my care again any time soon,” he said before leaving, closing the door behind him.
To be continued...
