(Pre-Canon) During the Cobbs’ parental leave from Dreamshare as it were, Arthur takes an emotionally high-stakes job despite knowing that it will dredge up old memories. It’s a job plagued with issues that ultimately has Arthur placing a call to Eames. Why Eames shows is anyone’s guess, but he’s a welcome presence. Or at least he’s briefly welcome until Eames figures out that the job means more to Arthur than most. A little younger and more vulnerable than the man he would become, Arthur tries to contend with both his past and complicated feelings for Eames.

@twobrokenwyngs​ Margate stresses me the fuck out because of all those damn knick-knacks. I feel like Alfie is two years away from an episode of Hoarders, okay? And maybe this is a head canon of mine, but Alfie seems the type to have magpie-like tendencies. Alfie surrounds himself with random things that have caught his eye because so much of the world just...doesn't?

omg, YES. I was totally going to call him a hoarder in that post, but I didn’t, out of the kindness of my heart, but honestly... he’s just about there. he’s already out of wall space and in the Making Piles on the Floor phase. then again, we only saw the one room - maybe that’s the one room he dedicates to filling with his "valuables” but it’s also the room he clearly prefers to spend time in, so...

that said, yes!! actually, we do learn from the Gospel that his father was the sort of man to swipe whatever he can get his hands on, that he was opportunistic and that Alfie, like Tommy, was brought up in the lower class, taught to scrounge and scrape and acquire to get by. so, it’s interesting how this tendency manifests in both of them - how for Tommy, it’s more showy and demonstrative, and for Alfie it’s more personal. that it’s just about knowing he has these things, surrounding himself with them and being able to look at them and touch them whenever he wants.

also!!! I love your point that he intentionally collects oddities and interesting things because the rest of the world is so underwhelming to him. to me it also explains why he becomes so fixated on Tommy himself, because Tommy is so unlike the other men he encounters in his day-to-day. right away, Tommy absolutely catches his eye, not just for his exquisite beauty but for his unique attitude and the way he carries himself and I think if there was any way he could have captured Tommy and kept him in his room full of rare, beautiful paraphernalia, he absolutely would have.

I've been puzzling over what's going to happen to Tomarcus since the series premiere, and I appreciated your post about Ben's latest tweet and various other things he's said about the ship. Do you think he legit doesn't care for the ship, or that he's being a tease? Because if he's so against it and it's not meant to be A Thing in the future, he needs to rein in the touching and violation of personal space because I was sold the episode they met. Jeez.

hey @boundinshallows i literally just woke up n saw this so i’m sorry if this a little incoherent

firstly i mean. i just want to say that speculating about actor’s motivations/intentions is always incredibly difficult because, obviously, i don’t know ben daniels personally. so, you know, all of this ultimately boils down to personal opinion based off my very long life in fandoms that have 'teased’ ships.

i think during last year’s rounds of interviews where ben daniels is quoted about seven hundred times as saying marcus thinks tomas is unattractive, it was definitely legit at the time. like, really, if ben was being a tease, he wouldn’t be saying “marcus thinks tomas is unattractive. marcus sees tomas as a brother”, because that’s the opposite of a tease.

i don’t think he is or was necessarily against it either, though, just that ben’s very much the bible of marcus. he’s got a headcanon for everything. for example: did you know  ben came up with the entirety of marcus’ backstory? before ben joined the exorcist, there was no known backstory for marcus - he was an empty slate - and it was ben who crafted the backstory of cyclical violence that made marcus such a capable exorcist.

anywho. ben has obviously just changed his tune and is now having fun being a tease. doesn’t mean he wasn’t real legit in older interviews, just that tomarcus is now a thing that the entire cast/crew talks about — seane crouch, the exec producer, retweeted ben’s tweet about “i can’t for the life of me see why anyone ships these two”.

whether or not the fact they’ve all started mumbling about tomarcus actually means anything is completely different. it probably doesn’t. there’s still, imo, a fifty-fifty chance that tomarcus is going to happen. fifty-fifty as in “it will or it won’t there’s no real indications either way”.

I wish you would write a fic where...Alfie is a shitty little princeling getting betrothed and his mentor, Tommy, who gives him a *particularly* thorough education in all matters, gets jealous and fucks him into a mattress. (I mean, I know the fic is still in the works so technically you *are* writing it, but still. Don't think I'm not bracing for A+ smut between these two.)

“Of course my mother knows,” Alfie says, his newly-deepening voice gliding over the words, and it’s only years of personal training to remain impassive that keep Tommy from stiffening as Alfie’s hands slide over his bare back, digging in.

“How long?” Tommy asks instead, turning his face on his crossed arms as he lies on his belly, stretched out while the heir to the kingdom kneads light, sweet oil into his muscles. Alfie leans down, a smile in his voice stirring the hairs near Tommy’s ear as he murmurs, “--isn’t that a bit of a personal question, mate?”

He answers, though, as the heels of his hands move rapidly into the aching tightness at the base of Tommy’s neck. “I told her the very first time I sucked you off. Don’t worry, I didn’t tell her that you had me do it--”

“--the bloody cheek, ay, you were gagging to get that mouth on my--”

“--I only explained the necessity of you teaching me every-little-thing a boy should know. Mmmm? She couldn’t hardly argue over that, love, especially herself getting married off and up the duff at only sixteen. Which as you well know is the very age that I am now.” Alfie presses his thumbs into the hinges of Tommy’s jaw and he groans, despite himself; he’s tense, all the fucking time, and Alfie seems to know just where to hit and rub and stroke to loosen it. 

“You’ve got a few more years before we make a suitable match for you. Before you’re fit for one, you little horror. And you can thank your mother’s political savvy for granting you the stability enough for that.” Tommy’s tone is faintly severe despite him being stark naked but for a towel draped over his arse (which Alfie keeps nudging fore and aft), and Alfie’s voice comes back, just a touch contrite, as he acknowledges, “Yes, she has. And she’s given me you, hasn’t she? To pass on that statecraft. So I should be thankful. And I am, Tommy.”

That contrition is of course an act, because Alfie with the privilege of his station rarely feels regret over any of his presumption, and as always Tommy doesn’t know if he feels more pride or frustration over that especially when Alfie’s plum of a mouth comes to rest just above where one thumb had been, on the silken spot between jaw-hinge and earlobe, voice close and warm. “Do you want me to show you how thankful? Or would you like to keep scolding me instead?”

“Finish me off,” Tommy directs him, shutting his eyes and pressing his forehead into his wrists. “If you seem too eager to abandon what you’ve started then nobody’s going to take you seriously.”

Alfie gives a little huff, then an annoyed sigh as he returns to his work, kneading Tommy’s arms. “It does give me more time, doesn’t it,” he says after a moment, and Tommy feels a thrill run down his spine because Alfie’s voice has gone thoughtful, analytical, when he continues, “to assess a situation. And to convince them that it’s their idea to stop and go on to more interesting things. Make them the ones eager for it.”

“Not always fucking,” Tommy cautions, because he feels he must make a token protest, and Alfie duly repeats, “Not always. I do have other interests, Thomas. I’m a sodding prince, after all, and therefore the sum total of all that my principality has to offer. I contain a ... a vastness, you might even say, if you had any sort of flourish in your soul.”

Tommy gives a faint harrumph, shifting his shoulders in Alfie’s grasp. “I’ve got flourish enough to do my job and make you the creature you are. Which some days seems more of an indictment of my methods than anything to recommend me.”

Alfie moves his hands down Tommy’s back again, to his waist, thumbs pressing on either side of his spine before one oil-slick hand ventures below the towel. “And yet despite your spotty record of success, I believe I’ll grant you a lifetime appointment when I’m King,” Alfie says, a certain delighted arrogance in his voice, and Tommy gives up trying to teach and pushes the towel away entirely.
