I think the Gaeta and Dee thing was a deleted scene! IIRC It follows up with them wondering if Adama and Roslin are getting it on and they make lil grossed out faces
Looks like you're correct! @allatariel sent in information that it's a deleted scene from A Day in The Life. More info here
I'm so thrilled that I'm still occasionally finding new-to-me BSG tidbits!

In case anyone likes to suffer, just skip ahead 6:02 and try watching without getting something in your eye. I couldn’t and I probably never will, but that’s fine. We are all fine. So say we all!

Spill the tea, what's the deal with you and the BSG group (avatar-chang and her squad in particular)?
Ok anon, sorry for taking so long! I wanted to get everything right and honestly collecting the posts took a longass time xD
Anyways, the only ones I have a problem there are avatar-chang, hexful/dykesia/bizukos, catrademption, cardboardseagulls (never seen interacted b4) and bizulas (also never interacted b4).
I’m going to be really transparent about this whole thing so it’s gonna be long as there’s gonna be several links and I’ve included the dates so it’ll be easier to understand. Since I’ll be fully transparent about this, i’ll probably get hate or whatever. Honestly, I just want to put everything out there without being biased or hiding anything. I’m going to disclose everything here.
So, the whole thing between me and avatar-chang started off with this post I made last year on 10 March 2019. Afterwards, she PMed me on the same day and this was the conversation:
Tumblr media
After that, I thought the argument was over because she blocked me lmao. The only ones I spoke to about this was nbw and my real life friends (who had nothing to do with ATLA lmao I just ranted to them).
And then the next incident I think was on 16 March 2019 when I made this post about Azula’s abuse of her friends. I was new and 16. I genuinely wanted to know why people labeled Azula as an abuser. It was dykesia who responded to me at the time.
Now, unlike avatar-chang, I had a few conversations with dykesia (who was bizukos then) that was generally civil. I first interacted with her when she made a post calling out Zucest shippers or something?? I was very new. Like fresh newbie baby ATLA tumblr fan new lmao so I thought what she said was too aggressive. I didn’t realize that there were actual Zucest shippers until after some time. And then she PMed me on 13 March 2019, saying that she doesn’t always agree on characters with me but I do write some interesting pieces on Azula— that she’s a huge fan of Azula but she just tends to stay away from her fandom. I apologized about the previous incident of the Zucest thing and it was fine after then. We talked about zuko, the fandom, the comics, Mai etc etc. I thought we were on fine terms.
And then I made a post about the cliff scene in the comics on 16 March 2019. Avatar-Chang made a post that was pretty directed at the post but it seems like she’s deleted it.
On 17 March 2019, I received an anon mail telling me that avatar-chang was talking shit about me behind my back. I censored her name then because I didn’t want to believe without any evidence. No one sent me any screenshots about it so I just dismissed it.
On the same day, avatar-chang answered an anon and talked about the 13 child post theory I made on 9 March.
On 23 April 2019, I received another anon mail about avatar-chang, asking if I’d seen the post she made about Azula. I censored her name again cuz I didn’t want to start any shit over having differing opinions. I’m assuming this is the post the anon was referring to.
On 28 April 2019, dykesia/hexful/bizukos PMed me to ask if I was talking shit about other people behind their backs, and her. I denied this because I hadn’t. This was how the conversation went:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I didn’t censor any name because as I said, full transparency. I have afp blocked because we’ve clashed several times and he’d still come for my posts last year despite already being blocked. If you’ve followed me long enough, you probably would’ve rmbered that time lmao
Anyways during then, I don’t think I realized that dykesia was actually being passive aggressive. It’d been barely a year since I started the blog and I just didn’t want to full out make enemies. Reading the messages now tho lmao she really was passive aggressive. But yeah then she said this in bsg so I don’t even know why she bothered to ask me if she wasn’t even going to consider believing me.
Tumblr media
The 9th of June 2019 was the last time she messaged and it was to ask if I mind her discoursing this Zuko post while ‘hard and drunk’. It was the first time she could apparently agree with me so it was I quote a ‘Yay??’. Afterwards I don’t know when she did it but she blocked me lmao
On 17 July 2019, I received another anon mail telling me that avatar-chang publicly called me a bitch when she was answering an anon about me posting the scans of the EK Chronicles. She mentioned this in bsg again on 19 April 2020 lmao (she’s that petty) it seems:
Tumblr media
On November 8 2019, an anon (one of avatar-chang’s friends actually) asked about my thoughts towards the allegations against Aaron Ehasz. I still believe in the system of ‘Innocent before proven guilty’, so I didn’t side with anyone. I tried to be as objective as possible. When I said that I hoped men would also come forward, I said that because I don’t want men to just sit on the sidelines and let the women get the heat if they were telling the truth. At the end of this whole thing, I concluded that Ehasz was a dick of a boss to the girls. Being called an abuser carries more weight than just being a dick. Everyone has been a dick at one point, but being an abuser is something else. Just because Ehasz was a dick doesn’t mean I’m going to stop watching TDP or dismiss his involvement in ATLA.
The next day, BSG brought the issue up despite both avatar-chang having already blocked me by then lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On 5 February 2020, after Legacy of the Fire Nation came out, I made a post calling out Iroh’s bs to Azula (guy literally blames Azula for everything that happened to Zuko (something which avatar-chang agrees with apparently, and Iroh even sees Ozai in a better light).
That’s so far what I’ve remembered that involved avatar-chang and dykesia.
Moving on to the next three attackers: catrademption, cardboardseagulls and bizulas.
I’ve seen catrademption around, but I don’t remember if we’ve clashed before. We must have though cuz she’s got me blocked lmao and I mostly only debate back to people when they reply to my posts. For cardboardseagulls and bizulas, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them them before but obviously they’ve seen my blog and misinterpreted everything I’ve written.
But according to them, I’m apparently a Azula apologist, extremist, irrational, toxic, coddles and woobifies Azula, justifies everything she does and invalidates abuse victims.
You can see the posts I’ve made to judge whether I actually am an irrational Azula apologist who blames everything on Zuko. One of the most recent posts I made about Azula’s character is this, and there’s still several more posts like that. Just search #meta or #analysis in my blog search and all of them will just pop up. I can assure you, I have never acted as if Azula has done nothing wrong or did everything right or whatever lies these people are spewing.
If anyone has proof that I’ve talked shit about people in the fandom to other people before, please, present your evidence. I highly think this is impossible because I actually don’t have many friends on Tumblr, nor do I usually initiate conversation because I’m awkward af.
I’ve also tried approaching those I recognized in bsg to find out more about the situation (and at least give my side of the story). Most of them have chosen not to speak to me LMAO but one of them who’s chosen to remain anonymous for their privacy, admitted that dykesia (hexful) forced them to block a blog before (after realizing they were interacting with said blog) and if not, they would be blocked themselves. I can’t post the conversation publicly because they’re afraid their speech mannerism will give away their identity. @space-sword has also shared his experience with avatar-chang on his blog and was pressured to cut off ties with ppb21 just to join the oh so magnificent Ba Sing Gay.
There’s absolutely no reason to judge someone based on their sexual orientation, race, color or age either. They rant about being discriminated against or being generalized or stereotypes but they’re the ones hypocritically committing these actions, and then justify their actions by saying ‘we’re oppressed, they’re not, so it’s not racism or discrimination’. And yet people still wonder why discrimination is still rampant LMAO
I can’t speak for the blogs they victimized in bsg, but I personally don’t agree with talking shit about them on a public server and then criminalizing them as if they’re actually predators. I also don’t agree with involving the blogs’ friends simply because of their association. I also don’t agree with demanding people to block blogs they don’t like because that’s just pure manipulation. That’s wrong and marginalizing people. Unless someone has actually been harassing or literally preying on people, then there’s no reason to actually go around warning blogs about them unless they’re asked about it.
If they feel uncomfortable about something? Then avoid that blog, filter their tags or even block that blog if they’re that uncomfortable—BUT they shouldn’t demand others to do the same just for their own benefit. It’s not up to them to decide what a person can or cannot see or who they can or cannot interact with. They’re not their parents, and they obviously have no right to pressure people into doing things they don’t want to. If they think it tactless that I shared the conversations? Oh honestly, a line was crossed when they spread shit about me so idc. If they actually feel terrible for being called out? GOOD. That’s what they should feel, because in no way was any of what they were doing right or justified. If they’re going to shit on me then expect to be burned because I’m not someone who’ll just shrivel in fear because they have a bigger following.

A BSG Rewrite
Okay, so when I was a kid, I watched the 1978 Battlestar Galactica and enjoyed the ships and explosions (I was a Star Wars kid, what do you expect). Then the reimagined series came out and I love the ships and the series, waiting in an anticipation for each season (being in Australia was hard). So it was enjoyable, even the bad episodes of Season 2 and 3, but Season 4, aside from the opening battle with the loss of the Pyxis and damage done to Zephyr, was just terrible. When the rest of the first episode focused on Starbuck’s weird return (which I still don’t get after several re-watches) and what it meant while Baltar was off to get a harem of women who worshiped the ground he walked on (urgh). We got no one figuring out why the fleet lost power or even how the 40-odd ships left in the fleet were disabled in one go while also dealing with the fact they lost another ship and other vessels were hit and damaged with 1,700+ lives lost. That’s when I knew the soul was lost. I remember them spending several parts of Season 1 caring about the Olympic Carrier after it was blown up in Episode 1, not to mention holding on to the lives lost. Yeah, Season 4 and The Plan was a disappointment for me and BSG went out with a gasp (similar to Game of Thrones actually).
But anyway, before the series even ended, I’ve had an idea for a series of my own. And kept the notes - mostly fleet ships and even pilot names - for the past 15+ years. And occasionally I have written my own episodes up to Season 4 (mostly rewrites of those episodes with my characters but with different outcomes). But I never went that far and then got annoyed and deleted it.
But my brain refused to forget it. And what’s worse, it wanted me to go beyond Season 4. Frak, I have gone as high as seven seasons! The original BSG had potential like Star Trek and imagine the places RDM would’ve gone with his.
So I have written up to Season 5 in this latest version, including shorts set between Season 2 and 3, a special between Season 3 and 4 but happens in late-Season 2, shorts about the Twelve Colonies from approximately 12,000 years before the Fall to about 5 years before the Fall and a special set during the attacks and the first seven months after the attacks following a third battlestar and the expected merge will happen in Season 6.
But a few things to say about it. It isn’t really human vs. robots. The robots are there, but they serve another sect of humans. Essentially its humans vs. humans, but it’s more complicated then that. And there is the religious element (sue me) but it plays out differently. As one of my characters say: “Colonial, Aor [the enemy humans], we’re all just pawns in a higher being’s game.” The real bad guys is the dark entities who manipulate my Baltar equivalent (so not a sometimes nice Number Six but rather someone who looks like an angel but is really a demon).
Another thing. I actually keep track of what ships are in my fleet and who every pilot on Galactica and then the second battlestar (not named Pegasus). This saves alot of problems. Original BSG was vague, telling us there were 220-odd ships while really only showing maybe 40 ships. Reimagined BSG seemed to change the numbers on a whim. Miniseries indicated over 50 ships escaped from Ragnar with Galactica, 33 indicated at least 63 ships and Galactica (total: 64), then Season 2 came along -- Tigh says 24 ships were almost a third of the fleet (then next episode said 18,000 people is over a third of the people in the fleet), the nameboard during the election episodes (and adding those mentioned in past episodes) gives you around 75 ships. But counting several ship you see (minus Six Degrees of Separation, cause that is a nightmare, and Flight of the Phoenix’s deleted scene cause it isn’t finished), I got 81 ships at least. Didn’t help every season wanted to add a new ship design (heck The Passage gave us two Defender-type ships when every episode prior indicated you have one, the poor Adriatic). The nightmare that was fleet shots and dialogue, never should the two meet it seems. But no, I did away with it. There were 64 ships at the start, we lose ships, we gain ships, but consistency to me is very important. Same with pilot names and callsigns. The burden of coming up with names and even callsigns was fun.
Anyway, that’s all I’m going to say. I blame my brain. But I always encourage the official release of anything. Just a fan.

friends, i’ve been a bit uninspired to make bsg gifs (cause i’ve been watching so much trek, sorry not sorry) so if anyone has any requests, please let me know! try to be specific like if there’s a scene or piece of dialogue you want giffed. also note i accidentally deleted eps 2-5 off my computer and i’m too lazy to re-download them. everything else is fair game.
i’m gonna have to pass on any romantic kara x lee sets, though so if that’s your bag, idk maybe ask @maggieoconnell ? idk if she takes requests but it doesn’t hurt to ask. 😬

Fanfiction Questions
from here
Fandom Questions
1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
Involved as in ‘frantically read every book I could get my hands on, daydreamed about being part of that universe and wrote stories/made art inspired by the books, if not actual fanfiction’? Mm, probably The Chronicles of Narnia when I was six or seven. The next great obsession was The Silver Brumby when I went through my horse stage around age 12, and then Sweet Valley High when I was 15. Hahaha.
2. What is your latest fandom?
Marvel! I’m not into comics and I’m definitely not interested in consuming every last bit of canon material or memorising the variations of every universe, but I love (most of) the movies and Agents of SHIELD is pretty cool.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
Star Trek Voyager. No contest. I venture to suggest that the older fandoms, the ones that are all about defunct shows, are a hell of a lot more chilled. Maybe because we’ve come to terms with our shitty canon endings and learned that liking the ship you hate doesn’t make someone problematic, unlike some newer fandoms I could name (Yes I’m talking about you, Game of Thrones fans. What the fuck.)
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
I’ve dipped a toe into one or two fandoms for shows or books I’ve really enjoyed and backed the fuck out when the vibe gets weird (oh hey, it’s GoT again), but nope. No regrets.
5. Which fandoms have you written fanfiction for?
All the Star Treks except TOS, and a Trek/MCU crossover. I’d like to write more for MCU someday. Plus I’ve written longhand entire notebooks full of teen romance shit that bore an uncanny similarity to SVH, and my first short story was a fantasy fic that featured a girl whose guardian was a wise talking lion who led her into mystical secret worlds, which is kind of familiar.
6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.
Wow. I’m going to define ‘involved in’ as ‘cared enough about to have an OTP’, but I’m guaranteed to forget a ton. In no particular order:
Voyager: Janeway x anyone who can get her off
Discovery: Lorca x Cornwell or Pike x Tyler x Burnham (or any combination of)
DS9: Kira x Jadzia Dax
TNG: Picard x Vash, I guess? I don’t really have any TNG ships
ENT: T’Pol x Trip x Hoshi (or any variation therein)
MCU: Cap x Widow
AoS: Coulson x Skye... no May... no Skye... I don’t know
CAOS: Madam Satan x Zelda
Timeless: Garcy
The Good Place: Eleanor x Tahani
The 100 (shut up): toss up between Clarke x Bellamy and Kane x Abby
Veronica Mars: Veronica x Leo (first run), Veronica x Logan (s4)
Orphan Black: Cosima x Delphine
BSG: Apollo x Starbuck
SG1: Sam x Jack
Arrow: Olicity (so over the show now though)
This Life: Milly x Egg
Yeah you know what... I’m drawing a blank. I can’t think of any other shows where I’ve been invested in The Romance that much.
7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.
I’m too tired to do every fandom, and besides, I can come around to almost any ship if the headcanons (or fics) are convincing enough. I do have a few hard no-gos, but they might be someone else’s OTP so I’ll shut up about them.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Reluctantly. The MCU movies are not something I ever thought I’d enjoy beyond a dull evening’s entertainment. I never expected to get attached to the characters. And yet.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
Voyager is my forever fandom and the only one where I’ve really interacted with other fans. The best things about it? In general, everyone is just cool, accepting, open and basically awesome. And talented. I love my Party Bus people.
10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Sure. The 100, Veronica Mars and Agents of SHIELD are the ones I’d dip into more frequently. I really enjoy crossovers between Trek and BSG or the Stargate variants, too.
Ship Questions for your Current Fandom
11. Who is your current OTP?
Janeway x Chakotay.
12. Who is your current OT3?
Janeway x Chakotay x Paris.
13. Any NoTPs?
A few.
14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?
Janeway & Tuvok! Also Torres & Chakotay, and I’d have killed for more Janeway & Torres in canon. (If they kissed sometimes that would be okay too)
15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?
Yeah. Paris x Seven. There are like two fics in existence, and yet ... the potential! (Sorry, B’Elanna)
16. Are there any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?
Nope.
17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?
Janeway x Paris. And they’re still way up there, but not quite at the top.
18. What ship have you written the most about?
84% of my fics feature Janeway x Chakotay as either the primary or secondary pairing... holy shit.
19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?
Paris x Torres. I mean, I feel them. I just don’t generally feel the need to write about them.
20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?
Chakotay x Seven. In another universe, it could’ve been beautiful.
Author Questions
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
Actual story that was clearly fanfic? A farcical drunken romp told in the 24th century equivalent of email format called PADDemonium (see what I did there?)
22. Is there anything you regret writing?
Lol, a few things that should probably have never seen the light of day for various reasons, some of them leola related. But I’ve only deleted two fics that I can recall.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Relieved. It’s a 30k AU Chakotay moral dilemma backstory that brings in DS9 characters, Section 31 and his longstanding history with AU Janeway. I did so much research for it (way back in the days before memory alpha and chakoteya.net) and I’m really proud of how I wound in canon stuff across series but changed a few key bits and pieces. Only problem is, it’s a sequel to ...
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
... Pressure, which I can’t even read without cringing. My characterisation of Janeway, even Angry Maquis AU Janeway, is way over the top and there are moments that verge on Mills and Boon and give me first, second and third hand embarrassment. God, I’d love to rewrite it. Actually, that’s a lie. I want someone else to rewrite it so I can read it without covering my eyes and moaning.
25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
Desperate Measures, by about 70,000 light years, lol. Although Fragile Things beats it on bookmarks.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
You know what? A fair percentage of the time, I think of the title first and come up with a plot second. Aside from that, I prefer shorter, punchier titles that clearly tie into the story (Flight Risk, Speechless), though sometimes it’s song lyrics (Burn Our Horizons, your body like a searchlight) or a literary quote (Required to Bear, All the Devils are Here) or a turn of phrase from the story itself (The Prisons You Inhabit). Hey that was fun. Thanks for letting me pimp the shit out of my stories.
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Ugh, it depends on the day. Summaries are harder, I think. I never want to give away too much of the plot, but there has to be enough there for people to know whether they’ll bother clicking. Funny story: I actually ran the stats on this a few months back. Here they are for your edification:
Fics with a one line plot summary = 54%
With two or three line plot summary = 18%
With a short snippet directly from the fic = 16%
With a snippet + a one line explanation = 3%
With a one line plot summary plus a line to date the fic (eg "set in season 3", “episode tag to Worst Case Scenario") or the fic prompt = 7%
And finally, a quote from something other than the fic = 2% (that's only 3 fics).
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Ooh. I’ll say the final scene in Explosive.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
I used to regularly ask @jhelenoftrek and @littleobsessions90 to beta for me, and both of them are brilliant at it. Lately I’ve been posting without sending my stuff off for editing. This is partly because I’m impatient to get stuff out there, partly because I don’t have as much time to write/edit, and partly because I’m a little less focused on improving my writing and more on enjoying it for its own sake.
30. What inspires you to write?
Little bits of episode dialogue I haven’t noticed before, other people’s fanfiction, stray conversations, fic prompts, song lyrics, random headcanons, fever dreams, dares ...
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
I’ve been really lucky with comments on my fic. The least helpful comment I’ve ever received was on one of my early 30k fics and all it said was “Did you have to take the name of the lord in vain?” Which is kind of funny. The nicest thing anyone’s ever said? I’m very partial to the feedback that starts “I don’t even like this pairing/genre/trope/show but you made me love it”, and particularly “I’ll read anything you write, I don’t care what it’s about.” But all comments are gold. The little heart button is cool too.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
I’m not someone who can tune out music I love, or leave it in the background to inspire me. If it’s on, I’m fully invested in it. I’m that annoying person in the car who flips radio stations every three seconds until I find something I like and then it’s on 11 and I’m singing along to it. I’m also really picky but extremely eclectic, although there are genres I can’t stand (anything with autotune makes me stabby). That said, sometimes I find a song that I can’t stop listening to for weeks and often that perfect combination of music and lyrics will inspire me to write a fic. For example, I just plotted out an entire J/C story because of this song.
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
All of the above. Although I’m not sure if my longest epic is huuuuuge or just huuuge.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
101,467.
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I have two drabble collections. One is all J/C, full of responses to random prompts and I add to it sporadically. The other is episode additions set on Kathryn Janeway’s birthday (May 20) and added to annually.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
Angst, definitely. Sometimes it’s smutty angst or fluffy angst or hurt/comfort angst, but often it’s just fucking unrelenting angst. And I’m okay with that.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
I did the stats on this once, too, haha. Pretty sure I came out fairly even on first and third person with a smattering of second person in there. I’m probably even-ish on present vs past tense, too. I make it a point to mix it up to avoid my writing getting stale or same-y. And sometimes a fic doesn’t really click for me until I try it in a different POV or tense or from a different character’s perspective.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
I mostly write for canon characters - the fun is in all the different ways you can interpret and imagine them - but I’ve been known to throw in the odd OC, or focus on a character who only got a brief cameo appearance, or write about someone who only appears in beta canon, or who only rates a mention on screen.
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Oh, wow. I’m not sure. I guess the thing I value most about my own writing is my willingness to try different styles, characters, pairings and so on. The thing I strive for most is characterisation that feels true, and I really love it when I get comments on that. Exploring a character in a way that rings true with a reader is the best thing ever.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Overly long sentences and adverb abuse, haha. No, truthfully, there comes a point in most of my fics, particularly the longer ones, when I really just want to scrap it because in my heart I know it’s dreadful. Usually that passes once I slog through the ‘I don’t wanna’ stage because I’m a bloody-minded bitch, but sometimes fics do get left in the dust half-written. Honestly, though, they’re the ones that probably should stay there.
Fanfiction Questions
41. List and link to 5 fanfics you are currently reading:
This is hilarious because I was just talking on discord about my problematic ‘to read’ pile. My unread AO3 subscription emails currently number 29 and my phone browser has 71 tabs open. So here are 5 random picks from that list of exactly 100 fics I should be reading:
Sex on the Beach (E, Janeway/Chakotay) by @traccigaryn
The Ruby Ring (T, Janeway/Chakotay, Janeway/Tighe) by @trinfinity2001

42. List and link to 5 fanfiction authors who are amazing:
Only five? Shit. Okay. In no particular order, these are five of the writers I keep coming back to:
quantumsilver (also here)
northernexposure
LittleObsessions
Helen8462
Cheshire
But there are so many others. My chosen fandom is chock full of amazing talent.
43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?
All of the authors above for various reasons, but also august because her writing is so spare and delicate and devastating, and runawaymetaphor because she writes the most delicious Janeway/Paris, and @seperis because I read In the Space of Seven Days literally 20 years ago and I still haven’t recovered, and I could be here all night raving on this topic but there are still many questions to get through.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
Janeway x Paris. I’m so happy there’s been a little bit of a resurgence in J/P fics lately. Thanks, @curator-on-ao3, you’re doing the lord’s work.
I’ll also take Janeway x Johnson content any day of the week.
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
What the hell? I can’t pick just one! Ugh!
... but okay, here’s the first one that came to mind when I tried to think about this: if you came this way by tree. I’m not sure I’d call it my favourite, but it’s one I revisit often. Ugh, there are so many other fics I’m thinking of now that I really want to list.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
Oh, that’s hard. I should probably pick an angsty smutty J/C because that’s a fair proportion of what I write and it’s good to let a new reader know what they can expect. But honestly, I think the best fic I’ve written is The Uncharted Sea. (It’s safe for work. Maybe not for makeup.)
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
The Archive, of course. Where else can I find ad-free hosting on a stunningly user-friendly interface with absolutely no moralising content restrictions and the world’s best tagging system? That Hugo award is well deserved.
Tumblr is good for headcanons and meta and gifsets and a few other formats that I’m less likely to post on AO3 because I’d feel like I was pissing off people who subscribe to me by giving them some random garbage.
I also have my own website, but I’m not really sure why. Sometimes I post fic there that doesn’t make it to tumblr or AO3.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
I try to. Honestly I do. I love it when I get reviews, so I figure paying it forward is the least I can do. I’m less scrupulous about leaving comments when I’m busy or reading on my phone.
49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
I mean, I love it when people reblog, but I certainly don’t expect it. @arcadia1995 is amazing for reblogging stuff *blows kisses*
Nobody owes fanfic writers shit, but I feel like there’s a tacit agreement that if you like what you just read for free and you’re on a platform that makes it easy to do so, you leave a review or at least a kudos, because I’m not gonna lie, posting a fic you’ve worked super hard on and seeing it get very few kudos or comments is a bit deflating. I’m sure a lot of us have been there.
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
During Voyager’s original run I was trawling the internet for Endgame spoilers (I don’t know why; I usually love surprises) and I guess I googled (or whatever the 2001 equivalent of googling was) something like “how does voyager get home” and somehow I stumbled across Revisionist History. At first I had no idea what I was reading - was this a lost story pitch that somehow got leaked? A professional novella commissioned by the showrunners?
Then I started following links and discovered yahoo groups and webrings and Trekiverse and fanfiction.net and all sorts of incredible things I’d never guessed at, including the now defunct ‘archipelago of angst’, a collection of Voyager writers who focused mainly on a darker Janeway than most of the other fic writers I was encountering, and I was hooked. So I wrote a few of my own pieces, and then I lost interest for 15 years. I’m still not sure how I got dragged back in.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Honestly, in what other way can I indulge my obsessions, hone my skills and talk about it endlessly with like-minded people? Where else can I instantly find a plethora of fiction about the exact topic I feel like reading about on my mobile device and for free? Fanfiction is fucking amazing and I’m so glad it exists in my life.

14, 23, and 30 for fanfic asks? Thank you 💜
Hi! Thank you for all the questions! I got a liiiiittle carried away while answering 14. a fic you didn’t expect to write Definitely the smut fics! The first one in particular. Ok, so, bit of a background story: Ila and I have been sending each other fics for months now. It started during our weekly Major Crimes rewatch. Back in June sent her a fic that had a scene that was a bit more explicit (not too much tho) and I say “PWP aren’t my cup of tea, I read them but I don’t write them”. Skip to 2 months later: I send her a 5k word long smut fic. Shortly after that I fixed Keep Me Warm (the “one room one bed” I posted a while ago and then deleted) and I wrote another PWP. One of my WIPs is a super fluffy fic with smut towards the end.
23.  fics you wanted to write but didn’t I had a BSG fic planned, set in the afterlife. I started it months ago but I’m stuck and I don’t know how to go on
30. favorite fandom to read fic from this year Oh this is tough... I’ll have to go with BSG, though. Lately I’ve been reading two beautiful fics that are simply amazing. One is “Did I Make The Most Of Loving You” and the other is “A Lady’s Pride And A Gentleman’s Prejudice”. Every time I get the notification that the fic’s been updated I stop everything I’m doing to read

Coming Attractions!
First Monday of the month, so time for an Update/Coming Attractions post!
Soooooo I got like barely anything done last month. Work got super slammed, and it was stupid hot which did not help with focus in the time I did have, heh. But I have some time off coming up this month so hopefully I will get more done.
Precipice:
I talked about some things in this post a while ago, about some possible future structure things. I’m hoping to get between three and four chapters out this week, depending on how much actual writing I get done while I’m off work. We’ll see.
Also, I will be putting up a deleted scene or two from the most recent chapter. I have an alternate version or two of Leia’s vision, and an extended/additional bit from the second scene with Anakin and Baze and Chirrut, so keep an eye out for those in the next couple of days!
Other Fanfic Projects:
I really do plan on getting something else done on one of my other AUs this month, but I’m not sure which one or when. Here’s hoping, though! Same deal for AU Outlines, etc.
I also want to get more done on our faces like a mirror, and maybe on a potential Halloween fic I’ve been kicking around in my head for a while, but I’m not sure I can get it to work. Ah, well.
I think I mentioned last month that I might try to get back into writing some of my old BSG AUs (i.e., rewriting For Sorrow Sung or picking up Serenissima or The Other Battlestar) or other fandom things, and that’s still sort of percolating in the back of my head? But nothing concrete coming up/no specific plans as of yet.
Original Fiction:
Yeah, I did nothing this month, lol. I’m gonna try and do at least one piece this month, though? Even if it’s just finalizing and posting the next actual chapter of the Untitled Intrigues Story, but hopefully something in one of the others, too.
…yep, that’s about it. Short update, sorry, mostly because not a lot got done this past month and I had a much more detailed update about at least Precipice that I didn’t want to just totally restate XD. Hopefully, next month will be more interesting!
On a related note, check out my meta blog sometime! I’ve got some essays and such there, including some newer content put together over the past month or two.
And…IDK, why not declare an impromptu Open Question Night? What’ve y’all been up to lately, and what’s on your mind?

I'm gonna go off on this (deleted) scene because there's so much spaceparents going on in season 3 that begs to be talked about more and also we need new content in the fandom
Btw this scene is definitely canon because this was a conversation they for sure had, whether we saw it or not (as I think is the case with all bsg deleted scenes but that's a post for another day)
So the way this scene is cut to is somewhat abrupt and if yall remember its a continuation of the scene left in the ep.. but what kills me is that it's abrupt because they slip into personal intimate mode so fast, even though they are still doing the "fleet business" thing. And we get to see this slip a good amount between them, usually in public or semi-private spaces with other close working professionals around, but here it's just them in Bill's quarters and it's gentle and loving.. until its not
Bill is 100% on edge leaning in to hang on her reaction and laura is like "thank the gods" and then "ut oh" in a second because our girl can read a room and ever the stalwart starts spitting out short, affirmative facts. Our Easily Emotionally Overwhelmed Admiral sits just long enough to realize he is gonna lose his shit if he doesn't dip out when laura begins to tell him why he should just accept what she did. And he's already in his quarters so where tf will he go? Ah yes, the head but with door wide open, mood: "im overwhelmed and i need to shave Right Now so i can feel grounded in and distracted by something but since you are already here.. please come talk to me"
I think it's hard to say how much of which things he is feelsing about ranging from "i have a dead child" to "i have been lied to about a serious fleet security issue" to "laura hurt people i love in a way i have been hurt" to "laura didn't trust me/shut me out after all we'd been through" but i think i tend to side toward his nature to empathize with the Agathons more than anything, which is where he settles eventually even if the question of trust thing is at play because nothing matters more to him than family.
Okay but laura... knows she has to give him all of her reasons to make sure he knows it wasn't a matter of trust which is why she immediately gets up despite the "im upset" mode of bill. Oh, and she's stupid comfortable with hanging out at the door, having a conversation and making eye contact through the mirror while he is going about his private business, you know, like this happens often. No sense of feeling as if she is invading his space. She's also very physically presenting herself as open, not forceful, but very secure in her choices. It takes her a long time to fully face him which is a way of letting him know she unterstands his feelings in the matter.
She saves the main point of "why i didn't tell you" for last to make him hear her good. It also seems like she knows that's gonna be the big one that matters long term. and her reason was that she knows him sooo well and cared about him enough at the time to recognize how fucked up it would have been to drop this in his lap knowing he would not have been able to be part of or allow it to happen due to his tendency to let his personal relationships drown out his calculating mind (see: at least 6 eps in each season dealing with this exact problem).
BUT she legit spared him this personal turmoil in exchange for a potential bad fallout between them later on from it, like what a selfless babe!! She also knows she has to continue to inhabit that role of making the hard calls and cannot apologize for it, and the tough old bird comes around real quick once she says she's about to leave lol
But of course he's gotta have his say and he's gotta go right for the gut and really drive home the point that she is the cause of some fucked up trauma to really good people he considers family and ughhh they always tell it like it is no matter how harsh
Spaceparents really out here having a hard time at this point. They'd finally got a chance to explore the romance and then the four months of occupation and now they are back assuming power and trying to put the fleet back to "normal" living with the knowledge that things like this gotta pop up every week and it just reminds everyone of those certain responsibilities (which will be addressed a few eps from now) and not that this scene makes it seem impossible to balance bc they actually handle it very well, but it does illuminate the central complication to them more than other scenes or conflicts, particularly because of the intimate setting and their uncertainty about where they are at with each other and they really just kill me yall. 90% of their relationship makes me feel deep sadness at just their separateness and the unfairness of it all
So much of this scene is holding and pacing the energy and none of this would be possible without the absolute brilliance of mary and eddie tbh. They are playing a simple game of catch with each other while their characters are both having important emotional developments... nbd

First paragraphs - conquering the empty page
I'm a "if you have a problem, solve it" kind of person, and there are way too many posts by people complaining they don't know how to start their story.
First of,if you do want to learn how to overcome that problem, congrats, you've just left the Lands of Writing for Fun and passed through the Gates of Shit, Writing is Work. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with the Lands of Writing for Fun, which have beautiful green pastures, unicorns, and strict no-burnout policies. Most people in fic fandom have taken permanent residence in the Lands of Writing for Fun. But if you do at all fancy yourself a (potential) professional writer, you will have to work out how to Write Without Inspiration (tm) at some point. As Joe Gillis famously said in the Sunset Blvd. musical: “I was talented last year. This year I’m hungry.”
The good news is, any one point on the list below can be the answer to your problem. So when you get stuck, spare a moment to think about which of them could be it and take it from there. If you really do have to work through three or four points and you still don't have your first scene, consider writing a different story. Sometimes fic ideas just don't work (the various reasons for why that could be would fill a post of its own), and sometimes stories just aren't meant to be. Or they aren't meant for you. Go bug your friends to write it for you.
So there you are with your plot bunny and your empty document. Maybe you keep writing first lines and deleting them. Ask yourself if any of the following could be the cause:
Easy answer first. It's often hard to write if you're hungry/thirsty/tired, you keep getting disrupted, or you just don't have enough free time to really relax into the writing process. Personally I know I won't be able to write a good first scene if I have less than an entire free afternoon available. I’m not going to even try any scene if I have less than an hour.
Ask a friend to write the opening paragraph(s) for you to get past the block.
Steal an opener from a similar scene, take it from there, and go back later to change the opener until it's not recognizable anymore, to get past the block. If you take if from another fanfic writer, have the decency to give them a shoutout in your notes. Also never steal from anybody if you've never written them a comment, AKA: Don’t be a dick.
You might not be able to start because you don't know how you need to start. So you don't know your story well enough, which means you need to outline. That might just mean you need to define how you want your story to end. Or you need to break it down further. I made a post about non-scary approaches to outlining for people who've never done it before here
Even if you know your story well enough, you might not know your first scene well enough. Define for yourself what needs to happen in the scene. Maybe now you can write. If that's not enough, ask yourself what's the most important thing you need to get across. If that doesn't work, work out a structure for the scene: Where does it end, what needs to happen in the middle, what's the moment where it needs to start. Work from the finish line backwards to the beginning. You can't write a route without knowing the destination. Maybe even write the last paragraph of the scene first.
You don't know the character(s) well enough. That might sound funny in fanfic, where you write a character whose show you've watched to death. Maybe you've even written them before. However, you still work with *your* interpretation of the character, your idea of their motivations, needs, ideals, specific to your story. You might not know how you want to write their speech style, how you would describe their idiosyncrasies, what words to use to express their thought process. If any of that is the case, sit down and brainstorm -- take a piece of paper, write down what comes to mind, cross out what feels wrong. This can be particularly useful when you write a character from a visual fandom -- a TV show, a movie. (when I was watching Travelers on Netflix, thinking about writing Philip, I grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down: "huddles, squints, raises chin when cautious or skeptical, pulls himself up straight, shoves hands in pickets, only looks at you after finishing thought". If your problem is the speech style, watch the show with subtitles or write down some of the character’s dialogue to familiarize yourself. You might need to get to know the character "in words" yet because you have only known them in pictures and sounds so far.
If you write a book fandom, you have the advantage of the fact that there already are words to describe your character. Do a close reading. That means, make a list (maybe just in your head) of the words used to describe them. You might even make some interesting discoveries, such as how Sirius Black is not a drama queen in canon. ^^ If you have an ebook, you can simply just search for the name and skim/study the results. Btw, this is an especially helpful thing if you write minor characters for the first time -- such as HP's Oliver Wood, BSG's Dee, THG's Prim. There’s usually not much to look up, and their characterizations tend to be very tight, focused on few characteristics only. Once you have the words, doesn't mean you have to repeat them in your story, especially since we all already know what the character looks/is like; but now you will know better what you're working with. (if you're an experienced writer, you can try reusing the specific words used in canon for effect -- your readers will rarely notice you did that, but will often end up with a pang of instant "damn that's so much like canon!!")
If you're still unsure how to write a character after that: Here comes the writing exercises. Write a ficlet (or if you're out of creativity, just a couple of prose paragraphs) exploring whatever aspect you have trouble with. For example, once of my very first fanfics, way back in the day, was a "story" of four scenes where I had each Sirius, James, Snape and Remus answer the question of "Why did you do it?" in regards to the werewolf "prank". (as in, "Why did you send Snape to the Willow, Why did you go and save Snape, Why did you promise to keep your mouth shut, Why did you forgive Sirius?") Helped me get their speech patterns down, their descriptors, and their backstory. Another thing that I find helpful is writing the difficult character from another character's POV first. The majority of my THG fic is written from Finnick's POV because I find it considerably easier to write than Haymitch's, who I usually write from the outside.
Maybe you do know your scene and your characters well enough to start writing but you don't know the right writing style yet -- the mood of the story or what vibe it's supposed to have, or which rhetoric to use for the experienced writers. Consider sitting down specifically with the intent of writing a handful of different first paragraphs. Exaggerate on purpose: Write a dramatic opening, a sad one, a funny one, a sardonic one, switch POV. Worst case, you will know what not to do. The important thing is to not try to write the actual opening. Just play around.
It might just be the first scene you're blocked on. It can be easier to start with a scene in the middle of the story, especially if the first scene is full of things you find challenging to write in the first place. (such as, say, a first scene that is set in a Texan court room, and you're not-a-lawyer from Sweden) Start out with something easier or more familiar, maybe something that didn't require research. It can be a filler scene. Alternatively, start with the last (couple of) scene(s) after the big climax, the ones where you resolve all the tension. They might be easier because they lack in conflict. Of course, this gets us back on the topic of outlining and How Outlining Is Good For You, Probably.
If none of the above do it for you, you really have only one choice left, which is: Write the fucker without caring if it's good or readable or useful. This is the advice most people will give you, but it's also the most frustrating and dissatisfying, so I'm personally more of a friend of any of the ones above. But: At worst you will end up knowing what doesn't work. So you can go back and write it without the thing that doesn't work. Write it again expanding on the things you have found do work. You may or may not do this immediately or after working other parts of your story first. Do this ad nauseum. Did I mention how having to write is not Writing for Fun anymore? It's Writing for Hell. But at least it's warm and crispy down here, and sometimes we even get paid.
