[BSTS] Gui Year of the Dragon Reward 4* Card Story
(note: The cast members that are dragons were sent to perform at an outdoor festival celebrating the year of the dragon.)
chapter 1 -festival grounds-
kongou: Looks like this is where they’re holding the kite flying competition.
gui: …There’s a lot of people here. Are they all competitors?
sinju: Some of them are probably just here to watch. It’s fun just getting to watch kites being flown too.
mizuki: Who cares how many people we’re up against. We’re gonna win and get that high end beef prize!
saki: Please do your best, everyone.
hari: That tent over there must be the reception desk. I’ll go and sign us up.
-time pass-
hari: Thanks for waiting, I’ve acquired the kite materials.
sinju: Materials?
hari: Yes, the kites are set up to be custom made by the participants.
mizuki: What? Why? That’s too much work, you guys do it. Peace.
-mizuki leaves-
kongou: Hey, wait! Mizuki!
hari: …He’s already gone.
sinju: What~!? But he was so fired up just a second ago?
gui: Want me to chase after him?
kongou: When he gets like that he’s not gonna change his mind even if you do catch him…
hari: Let’s not worry about him. We’ll make the kite ourselves.
-time pass-
hari: First choose a kite shape and design and then once it’s affixed to the frame it’s complete.
sinju: I see, this might be a bit harder than I first thought.
hari: It’s so everyone can participate in the event in our own unique way. If we have the time, I think it’s a good idea.
kongou: Ok, how about we pick what shape we want first?
sinju: Let’s see, what do we have here. There’s a square kite, a diamond kite and there’s even fish shaped ones.
saki: They all look cool, don’t they?
gui: Which one is the best?
sinju: Hmm, I’m not sure. The answer would depend on who you ask.
hari: Rather than the shape itself, it appears the key factor is how you affix it to the frame. The requirement for a kite to fly well is for it to be attached right in the middle of the frame, achieving bilateral symmetry.
kongou: In that case, we can just choose whatever we prefer for the shape and design right?
hari: For the design, we should naturally go for one that has a dragon.
sinju: Doesn’t the diamond shaped one look cool?
gui: …….
kongou: If you’re interested Gui, do you want to be the one to put it together?
gui: Can I?
hari: If you need help I’m here. There’s no harm in challenging yourself.
sinju: If Gui does it I’m sure it’ll turn out well since he’s dexterous. I’m in agreement!
gui: Ok. I’ll give it a go.
-
chapter 2 -festival grounds-
saki: How is the setting up of the kite going, Gui-san?
gui: I’m just doing some finishing touches then it’ll be ready. Look.
saki: Wow, it looks great!
kongou: Yeah, you’ve done pretty well haven’t you? It looks like it’s going to fly up real high.
gui: Hari helped me create it. We’re going to compete with this kite.
kongou: Yeah, let’s do our best in the competition.
sinju: It’s finally time to start flying. So the rules are that the team that can fly their kite the highest wins?
kongou: Yep. How about we let Gui fly it first since he was the one who made it?
gui: Ok. I’ll give it a go.
-gui starts flying the kite-
kongou: The trick is to properly read the direction and strength of the wind. Do your best.
saki: Oh, it’s flying!
gui: But it’s so low… The other kites are so much higher up in the sky.
sinju: Here, let me take it for a moment.
-sinju flys the kite-
saki: Uwah, it’s slowly getting higher and higher!
sinju: Heheh, I’ve flown kites, played badminton, played with spinning tops and done all sorts of things like this with my grandpa. When it comes to new year’s activities you can count on me.
hari: A dragon soaring high in the sky is a good omen.
sinju: …Hm? Wait, there’s something written on our kite’s tail… It says ‘A performance by dragons to commemorate the year of the dragon, this afternoon on the main stage’…!?
kongou: That’s some crazy good hand writing…
hari: I wrote it. It was the optimal spot to advertise our show.
kongou: Hahah, so that’s why.
sinju: Ah, Saki-chan. The wind isn’t too strong at the moment so do you want to try flying the kite?
saki: Yes, I’d like to.
-saki flys the kite-
sinju: Make sure you keep the string taut. If it starts to loosen, pull on it a bit and adjust it so that it’s taut again.
saki: …Like this?
sinju: Yeah that’s it! You’re a natural.
-sky-
gui: …The kite is flying so high.
kongou: Yeah. The dragon that you made is soaring magnificently into the sky.
-time pass-
mizuki: Huh? Where are all the kites at?
sinju: You’re finally back, Mizuki! The kite flying competition has already ended.
mizuki: Oh, really? Then where’s our meat?
gui: We came second. There’s no meat.
mizuki: What? You didn’t win!?
kongou: The result may be disappointing but I think it ended up being a good advertisement for our show.
mizuki: Tch, is that so? Well whatever, if there’s a competition for who’s gonna liven up the festival the most, then we’re obviously gonna take out first place.
kongou: Yeah, it’ll be a blast. Let’s give it our all.

Chapter 7
Qu
Hey, Gui.
Do you know where Mizuki ran off to?
He was supposed to have a shift today, but I haven't seen him at all.
Gui
Mizuki went out.
Qu
Outisde?
Well, that's news to me.
Gui
Qu
...Oh my, oh my.
My, it's like a recurring disease, isn't it?
Gui
Mizuki is a disease?
Qu
Ah, sorry. It isn't a disease, but more like a habit of slacking off.
Gui
A habit of slacking off.
Qu
Well, we're short staffed today, so I have no choice but to bring him back.
Do you know where Mizuki headed off to?
Gui
I know. Do you want me to show you the way?
Qu
Please.
It's almost time for opening, so let's hurry.
Mizuki
...
Gui
Mizuki.
Mizuki
Ha?
Geh. Qu is here too...
Qu
Mizuki, today you're hall staff.
You need to come back.
Mizuki
...It's not like there's a difference if I'm not there, ain't it?
Gui, don't bring Qu here.
Gui
Qu was looking for Mizuki.
Mizuki
...Tch.
Qu
I have no idea why you went here, but right now, we need to get back.
The store won't run properly without you.
Mizuki
(sighs)
Gui
Mizuki is waiting for someone.
Mizuki
I ain't waiting for shit.
I'm goin' with 'ya already.
I just don't like being in Starless right now.
I'd rather be here right now.
Qu
...If I ask you right now why, will you tell me the reason?
Mizuki
...Shut it, I don't need it.
I'll come back with 'ya already, so just shut it. Go on ahead.
Qu
Alright, we'll go on ahead. Let's go, Gui.
Gui
Mhm. Understood.
Qu
Mizuki, we'll wait for you at Starless, alright?
Mizuki
...
Chapter 8
Zakuro
My, my. A spectacle of flowers in full bloom.
This time, the performance is outstanding as well. It's difficult to tell which of the two are better.
Yoshino
I agree. It seems people who are fans of the playwright are coming to visit as well.
It's so great to see many new customers coming in.
Zakuro
Yes, indeed.
Kei
Zakuro and Yoshino.
What are you doing here?
Yoshino
I'm here to pick up any extra flyers.
But it seems like Un'ei-kun isn't here.
Kei
If it's Un'ei-kun, he's outside right now.
The flyers are stored inside the cardboard box on the shelf.
Yoshino
Thank you.
Zakuro
Kei, if I may, I have a question for you?
For now, "Hanahodoku" and "Hirahirari" won't be performed, yes?
Kei
The performance this time was a special request from a client.
As long as the playwright's fans are coming, we need to keep the program simple.
Zakuro
I see, I see.
However, us singers also wish to sing our songs to all the new fans.
You feel the same way, don't you, Yoshino?
Yoshino
Mhmm...I understand the feeling, but I can understand Kei's reasoning as well.
It'll be a lie if I said I don't want to perform, but this performance isn't the place for it right now.
Zakuro
Is that so? But since it's a Hanami performance, wouldn't it be better if a variety of flowers were in bloom?
Kei
This time, the request was made because Akira and Rindou stood out in the eyes of the playwright.
In a way, you can say they won that right to perform. It's not easy to be able to reach that point.
Zakuro
Well, now that you saw that, you surely are correct.
Well then, in order to protect my pride as a singer, I'll have to work extra hard during my lessons.
Let's go on then, Yoshino.
Yoshino
...Zakuro.
I have to be out at the hall today, you know?
Zakuro
Oya oya?
Something like that happened?
Kei
A path won't open for those who aren't on the move, Zakuro.
Yoshino
And there you have it.
Let's get back to work, okay?
Zakuro
It's only natural for human beings to have an endless amount of hope.
However, for now it seems there is an end of the line.
Chapter 9
Nekome
Oya~ This year's Hanami is really sophisticated~
Sin
Are you able to distinguish the colors of the wind that blows in hell?
Nekome
I don't wanna~ After all, I have feelings and sympathy too, ya'know?
Kokuyo
Aren't they just the same thing?
Nekome
Oh? Kokuyo, what are you doing here?
Isn't the performance soon?
Kokuyo
I just came to see how the audience was doing.
I'll going back soon.
It looks like the guy who comes back without any warning has no idea how to read the room.
Nekome
I see. So basically, I've become the straight man[1], haven't I? I guess it's only right.
But with the return of the autumn breeze, so too will the whale's bones be revived.
How was it?
Do you feel the atmosphere?
Sin
It seems the key is for the wrong door.
Nekome
It's pretty rare to find someone who has the same sense as you do.
Kokuyo
Stop talking about such nonsense already.
If you really want to chatter more than work, I'd be more than happy to go out with you.
However, I decide the flow of the convo, go it?
Nekome
Uwah~ That's a real nasty expression ya got there.
I gotta knock on some wood to prevent any bad luck~[2]
Sin
Kokuyo.
Did you want to find out why he disappeared?
Kokuyo
Not really. It's an unspoken rule here at the shop to not dig in to anyone's past.
He's still the same old plain guy from the past, that much hasn't changed.
If he wasn't to talk about it, he can go ahead and blabber, but if he doesn't want anything to be said, he'll do anything to avoid it.
Sin
...Shouldn't you take back the ghost's key?
Kokuyo
It's whatever.
But, if he keeps running away like that, he'll eventually get caught.
I've seen a lot of stories where they manage to get by normally, but in the end eventually get caught in the act.
Sin
Is it the shadow of a bird or a beast that falls into the night? It's hard to distinguish.
Kokuyo
...Hm.
[1]: He says Tsukkomi, and with those unfamiliar with that, it's the wiser half of the stupid and straight man combo that's a popular comedy trend (esp in Japan)
[2]: He says "Kuwabara kuwabara," which is a saying to not get hit by lightning but I just used the English equivalent.
(note: Lico’s team’s show is based on the novel ‘Metropolis’ by Thea von Harbou)
chapter 1 -starless hallway-
lico: Hey, Gui. Why did you step in front of me just then?
saki: (That voice, it sounds like Lico-san? I wonder what happened.)
-rehearsal room-
gui: It’s Josaphat’s job to protect Freder. Josaphat is within me, so I will protect you, Lico. Have I not understood Josaphat’s heart correctly?
lico: His heart? It’s not like I’m trying to say your acting is bad or anything. What I mean is that you stepping in front of me during this scene ruins it.
gui: Ruins it…
lico: Look, you understand that this show is a june bride performance right? What all the ladies in the audience want to see is the sweet romance between Maria and I.
gui: ….?
lico: What I’m saying is you need to look at how you’re affecting the performance as a whole, not just concentrate on your role.
gui: The performance… as a whole.
lico: Sigh… For now let’s just take a break.
-lico notices saki-
lico: Oh you were here, Kotori-chan. Sorry, I didn’t notice you come in.
saki: It’s fine.
lico: I’m gonna go and buy some water, stick around to watch us rehearse once I get back, ok?
saki: Ok, thank you.
gui: Good work with practice, Gui-san.
gui: Saki. I have something I’d like to ask you.
saki: What is it?
gui: What’s a sweet romance? Is it a type of candy since it’s sweet…?
saki: Um… Well, in a love story, it would be seeing the happy couple’s relationship develop, sometimes to the point where they get married.
gui: …I don’t get it. Would you like to see the romance between Lico and Maria as well?
saki: Yes, I suppose so. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful.
gui: I see. For the sake of Lico and Maria’s romance I need to look at the performance as a whole. I’ll give it my best shot. In order to make you happy.
saki: I’ll be looking forward to it.
-
chapter 2 -starless hallway-
saki: Hello, Gui-san. Do you have dress rehearsal now? Your costume looks really nice on you.
gui: Saki, thank you. Are you going to be watching us rehearse?
saki: Yes, I’d love to.
gui: …The scenes between Freder and Maria need to stand out. So, I need to make sure I don’t interfere with them. That’s what Ginsei told me looking at the performance as a whole is. I’m going to look at it that way while rehearsing today. I’d like you to see it too.
saki: Fufu, I see. I’ll make sure to keep an eye on you.
gui: Thanks. There’s still something I don’t understand though…
saki: What is it?
gui: You told me romance is things like falling in love and getting married. But why do people get married?
saki: Oh? Well… I’d say it’s because when you find someone that important to you, you always want to be together with them. So marriage is like a promise that you’ll always be there for each other.
gui: …A promise.
-gui steps close-
gui: In that case, I want to marry you.
saki: What? Me!? Um, Gui-san, that’s not what…!
gui: You’re a person who’s important to me. Did I misunderstand?
saki: Ah, umm… well no not exactly…
gui: That’s good. I understand romance now thanks to you. I can improve my acting with this.
saki: I’m glad to be of help…
saki: (I still don’t think he fully understands the implications though…!)
-cg
gui: Here, hold out your pinky finger as well.
saki: My pinky?
gui: Let’s make the promise like this. A promise that we’ll always be together, I’d like you to pinky swear me that.
