I've seen a post I agree with but it slightly misses the point and it's bothering me but I got a feeling it's not worth starting a discussion over. Also the tone makes me think this person unconsciously didn't want to realize the whole deal about what they were discussing for whatever reason. Probably because if they did, it would make them realize they've done something similar to what they are criticizing in the past.

Mercury In The Houses: Mental Space
Tumblr media
Mercury In The First House: A rams Mind
(Zella Day - Mustang Kids Feat. Baby E)
The mind is quick, but can be lacking in future thought. the tendency to think of the situation as it is rather than what it could become is very present. The idea of “now” rules the head space which can cause a few short comings when it comes to planning. The “gun ho” perspective they have on their environment and those they interact with can be limitless in its potential but slightly limited in its afterthought. The mind is often the first thing people notice about these natives, That can be their mischievous nature, alert eyes, or their tiny squinted features. Smaller facial features and or eyes can be indicated by this placement of mercury. Their is a crude and rather overtly blunt nature to these natives but its very genuine and simplistic in its meaning that makes these natives very honest people at heart. mercury here can create pixie like features.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Second House: The Stubborn Mind
(Nav - Know Me)
The point A and B of matters is usually on their mind. very rarely will you catch them entertaining small chit chat as they prefer conversations with substance. They can have a melodic or rather pace by pace manner of speaking. The neck in some ways can be long or fragile. because of their easy link of sensory information and mental connectivity they are able to collect and store crucial facts and intel rather easily. That being said they’re a bit slower when It comes to learning and require a more hands on or physical manner of being taught as it means far more to their brains to have palpable information. They take time to make decisions and aren't the types to jump down the rabbit hole without “feeling” everything out first. Much like animals they can sense energy and vibes via smells, skin touch or even just their own hairs raising. The mind here is living off the 5 senses in such a way it creates its own 6th sense. These natives much like their Eighth house counterparts tend to love the lyrical aspects of rap, most can enjoy the sultry songs or something that embraces low sax and bass. for them the more sensual their realm the more of their mind they feel like sharing. make no mistake though, these natives are extremely independent minded and loathe anyone who doesn’t respect a stance they’ve chosen to take. It’s not so much a “my way or the high way” energy but rather a “you can feel that way, but don’t overstep”
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Third House: The Scattered Mind
(Jacques Greene - Unreleased; Night Service Feat. Cadence weapon)
Mercury is often elated to be here, but for the native with the placement it can feel like mental gymnastics as every brain cell plays the audience. The mind in more understood terms is multifaceted. It has as many heads as the hydra and as many layers and intricate colors as the stars in the sky. The curse is that as vast as the mind is, it lacks grounding here. These natives can often hear audio from seemingly nothingness. a certain type of premonition like wavelength inhabits their mind subtly. The high vibrational effect of this placement can cause shifts and sudden thought burst sometimes causing the native themselves to write off some of their more outlandish celestial call back as either being too good to be true or rather too crazy to follow. Reading the intentions and emotional states of others is easy for these natives, this makes them great performers and chameleons when It comes to playing a “role.” but the draw back is that figuring out their own thoughts and feelings is a constant and ongoing journey for these natives. They can compact and isolate feelings and sensations which can make their speech and mannerisms seem “distant” or far away in a sense to strangers and even to those who know them. The mind is immensely adaptable allowing them to devour information quickly and use it just as fast. keep in mind the third house is half of the ninth house so despite their fast mind they can sometimes only scratch the surface of topics never digging deeply enough to make use out of it. Mercury here can make the arms fragile and a bit on the smaller side. Bodybuilders with this placement tend to get rather lean arms as opposed to bulky ones unless another planet rest in this house. This placement tends to create individuals with escape rooms from aspects of their personality, especially the darker sides which is why they can seem like different people at different moments and sometimes all at once.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Fourth House: The Quiet Mind
(Drake - Light up)
The mind here is rather sentimental at heart but can be rather overwhelmed with the psychic call back it receives from its surroundings. The tendency to become recluse or silent is mostly a response to the draining aspects of relating to others in a superficial environment. Mercury being so close to “home” makes these individuals crave authentic and deep relations with others. sometimes they can convey mountains of truths and pains in one symbolic phrase or sentence, while other moments they are unable to convey the deep intensity of their feelings into something as trivial as words. It can be quite suffocating and even heavy when these natives fall into one of their moods as being so heavily run by their heart they can often cause them to fly in-between moods, thoughts and feelings just as quickly. people around them can feel on edge or a bit unknowing when it comes to the feelings and desires of these natives due to how constantly they fluctuate. Outlets like music and poetry are very healthy ways for them to express the un-expressible. These natives on the onset can wear a rather aloof expression but the eyes themselves can seem sad or unavailable. these natives are keen readers of body movements and often learned from their parents in doing so. they tend to take sudden energy shifts, changes in tone or a emotional tension very seriously and cause them to instinctively act out in a defensive manner. Mercury here is self defensive as a means to protect the natives inner realm. these natives can fly between rational vs irrational constantly which causes them to on occasion lie about what it is they’ re feeling towards something even if there actions say otherwise. The manner of speech is moody and can sway between talkative to detached. the home life could’ve been busy and rapid. natives like this tend to have a highly talkative home life or at least on that was filled for better or worse with “communication.” the chest can be rather fragile or boney in both men or women unless another planet rest here. these natives can be far more talkative and scattered at home that they would out and about.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Fifth House: The Prideful Mind
(Neon Indian - Slumlord & Slumlord Re-release)
The mind here is in a constant groove. These natives tend to find a natural illuminance in their day to day lives no matter how hard things get. These natives tend to seek out stimulation even more so than most other mercury placements. in some ways they are searching for excitement whilst in others they are searching for the moment of inspiration and gull. to them life is one long tirade and if you can’t find a way to make amusement out of it, its a waste. they can be hard to read in many ways, because much like a lion their attention can shift and lapse quicker than you have time to blink. they crave acknowledgement and can easily grow bored the second they notice the tone in your voice is lacking in that delicious “oomf” they need. they’re very creative when it comes to hobbies and many with this placement adore books and quotes and often tend to pass on this mercurial nature to their children. They can draw the attention of rather brainy children and tend to debate with kids quite a bit. That being said romantically they can be either choosey or a wild card. they want to meet all forms of intimacy, but this “thought” can be fleeting especially if something more entertaining catches their eye, be it drama, art, children or a new fashion trend. so make sure if you’re fancying a mercury in the 5th you keep in mind how quickly the chase can turn into a solo jog. These natives can have beautiful backs as mercury creates a rather slow arch and increases the smallness of the ridges along the back. that being said the spine and back can be very fragile.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Sixth House: The Practical Mind
(TV Girl - Every stupid Actress)
This placement is what I like to call the sad gal/boy aesthetic placement. I’m kidding of course(please don’t take it seriously lmao) that being said this placement can produce a very somber and rather mentally pessimistic person. they tend to see the world in a far more untrusting and linear way then most, but can also feel the world in a way some of us could only dream of. the way they process information and navigate the world is physical in nature as they often need to experience the world, as if they’ve done it for the first time as some tourist from a far away land. The nerves tend to be bad here so often these natives tend to develop “time killers” or “nerve relaxers” be it reading, jogging, working out, smoking, drinking, sex or otherwise. they tend to place value in the consistent aspects of life and this can make them seem rather dull and dry to most people as they’re the few people who actually tend to place value in what lies there before them in proof rather than a feeling things might “be” as they want them to. These natives can seem like the bad boy or girl as many of them don’t actively support much of society or the norms people have in place. they conform and work in the silence but underneath that readily servicing mind they are in fact observing and yes, they are ranking, ordering and neatly filing everyone like files in a drawer. moody or dreamy types can piss them off as they live in a more fabricated/rose colored world than these natives do which often makes them rid the nonsense or take on a more aggressive attitude. the belly can be rather sensitive to foods and the natives themselves can be conscious about their tummy. they often have jobs that require a lot of movement or communication in some way.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Seventh House: The Bicameral mind
(Empress Of - Everything to Me)
The mind here is actually a two sided coin. on one end there is a talkative social butterfly, eagerly embracing thoughts and ideas of others but inadvertently remaining passive towards these ideas, never inputting their own thoughts. on the Other end we have a less talkative side, observing and speaking only in response, this time every response being a direct inner opinion and thought in response to what has been spoken. these natives can be a true half of halves due to their tendency to take a particular side or stance unknown to them. The challenge is figuring out which side you’re talking to as these natives can be immensely detached when it comes to more serious and tense testimony. they love interacting but can at times lack the tools to direct a conversation on their own. they tend to appreciate a certain level of calm and chance in their meetings with others and attract this same energy to them. they’re sweet and generous but have a perfect balance of knowing when to retreat or give space to others. they tend to need marriage partners who are just as much as a conversationalist as they are. in men this can mean an attraction to a more lean or skinnier partner whilst in women this can mean the same. the buttocks can be rather fragile or petite in its look. the pelvis region can on occasion have issues whilst sleeping as well.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Eighth House: The Rhythmic Mind
(Asap Rocky - A$AP Forever Remix Feat. Moby, T.I., Kid Cudi)
These natives are the epitome of the gambler. The type I'm referring to isn’t just the casino but rather it’s the fact that these natives take a certain level of excitement in pushing the limit. for them there isn’t a line, its merely a hurdle people fool themselves into creating as a form of limitation. These natives deeply believe in pursuing life and all of its aspect in every extreme. some who are disconnected with their eighth house eventually feel this placement as its something that grows in its intensity as the years go. these natives are where the “testing” comes from. many blame Scorpio for the trials and tribulations, when in reality these natives are the judge and the jury in that regard. they can read people, infact people are mini character studies for them. everything they learn from others is in some way etched into the character and melded to become a new trait, a new defense, a new tactic. they’re intimidating and in many ways far more than any Scorpio mercury due to how intense mercury swirls in the world of death, inheritance, loss, communion, and most of all the other side. they can often have a curious mind when it comes to the undead but often the spirits they attract can be mischievous, childish and irritating. in some ways spirits pose as children to lure in this native and often times these natives can have a certain level of darkness they flee from related to their own childhood. Mercury here makes people rather fearful but in a strange way trusting of telling these natives their darkest secrets. These natives can have rather petite or tight genitals. for them sex and intimacy is a meeting of the minds even more so than the body. they can be detached towards sex if a mental connection isn’t formed no matter how many “I love you’s” are said. the eyes can be deep, penetrating and ICE like a cool winter sky. they are not the types to let someone hold control over them in a conversation and will easily snake it in a way that suites them.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Ninth House: The Loud Mind
(Jacques Greene - Nordschleife)
These natives are ambiguous in nature. the mind can be thinking a million and one different scenes and scenarios and in reality what is spoken can completely be a whole other concept in itself. Their mental aptitude is something to be commended as they can easily dance circles around anyone with their vast mental compacity. they have a keen sense of the world, the land, its ancestors, it’s lore and history as if they’ve lived it countless times. That being said in opposition to its third house sister, these natives can lack the small and more crucial baby steps or mental facts that are necessary to give the bigger ones a face. They are gracious and gluttonous when it comes to ideas and knowledge as they love to soak up everything. knowledge and perspectives are the fountain of youth for them as they often need those different views and concepts to further deepen their minds. although mercury is a bit estranged here, he still bubbles and gasses at the Hugeness of the ninth house. foreign travels are usually riddled with opportunities to “learn” and are often plentiful in compacity. These natives are very hard to catch and even harder to maintain as they often have their own set of beliefs that they will fight tooth and nail to convince you to see. they can have a bi-polar relation with religion and can either support or ignore it depending on which side wants to be present that day. University life is often stimulating as hell for these natives and provides them many opportunities for self expansion if properly used. the thighs tend to be petite and rather intricate in form. these natives usually have a rather “entertained” expression as if they’ve already given themselves all of the conversation before you even appeared.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Tenth House: The Heavy Mind
(Drake - 9)
for These natives the mind can be rather intense. In many cases mercury being situated in a house it would normally share and in-conjunction with in theory can be a bit tense as they say. the mind is extremely disciplined here and often the manner of speech can be pressed or withholding as these natives often slip into moments of silence or intended distance. sometimes these natives do it for the masses while other times its because of the rather unfair critique they give themselves. they aren’t the types to act and many prefer to present themselves authentically which can make them seem like a cold, mercenary. in some ways they are the queens and kings of detaching emotions from intellectual situations but in moments when emotions are needed these natives can still  struggle to turn on the sensitive switch. The value work and ethic and place a high caliber to who and what they care to listen to as far as opinions go. they can do what must be done to rise to the top as they don’t have the same limitations others would from tearing down the competition. these natives have a rather fragile bone structure and can easily damage their body if they overextend themselves. They are well known through media and through their careers by being a communicator and someone who is competent in electronics, photography, and so on. the dream career could be one in the media in some way or even to a lesser extent acting(but for the most part anything in communications)
Tumblr media
Mercury In The eleventh House: The colonized mind
(Julian Casablanca's + The Voidz - Dare I Care)
Mercury in this house can produce some far out head spaces. These natives can live in a whole new parallel but at the same time you wouldn’t know unless you really got to know the native. they tend to enjoy the game of hide an seek when it comes to which persona they’ll show you. much like all the other air houses, the multiple faced persona is a big play on into how they express themselves. om one hand they revel in their uniqueness but on the other hand unlike Aquarius mercury they are not set on being above or beyond others, they simply want to connect, connect, connect until they have seen it all, every part of it. they can be geniuses, their minds and the way they think is both humbling and terrifying as these natives in most cases struggle following more common or relaxed means of relation. For them the real joy is the build up, the initial hum and drum of relating to someone you share nothing in common with. they tend to be broad minded and adore a multiverse of different personalities, archetypes, scenarios and settings. to them so long as it’ s different or new they are down for the time it takes to understand what they’ve gotten themselves into. strange and more isolated themes are fascinating to them as they often want to know the why and how of it. as far as dressing goes these natives are very unique, but naturally so. they just have this electric. sensational energy to them that makes everyone want to catch a whiff of their beat. Their friends tend to have Gemini placements or operate on a mercurial vibration. they can adore communities and groups and be involved in many. the ankles tend to be small and thin depending on what else rest in this house.
Tumblr media
Mercury In The Twelfth House: The vibrational Mind
(Charlotte Gainsbourg - Rest)
Mercury in the twelfth house is a rather complex placement, more complex than any other placement. unlike its other water house sisters, mercury in the twelfth is about more than fluctuating thoughts, or intensity, rather its about the lack of. mercury here is quiet, mercury almost takes on this ghostly role. these natives suffer from what I like to call the silent miss syndrome- this is the act in which certain actions or feelings are felt and thought upon but acted out in passive aggressive and dismissive ways. these natives tend to avoid their emotions and thoughts which creates a separate means of dealing with both that makes these natives in concept difficult to read or even understand. they can express one thing and not just feel something else but do something else completely opposite of what either of their previous actions or thoughts had dictated. the mind here is cloudy and changing, but above all else it’s mute because its never consciously expressing anything. mercury in the 12th Houser's are expressing their feelings but rather as a frequency or a current rather than anything direct or visible to the naked eye. mercury in this house creates an energy in which what ever is internally felt by these natives is picked up by others and passed on into them, almost like an electrical current. it changes the moods of those around them in their  environment in a powerful way. Their sadness, happiness, anxiety, pain, rage, hate, content, tiredness, all of their inner feelings become voices in the environment causing an almost domino effect. this is one of the hardest placements for mercury and for most of their early years these natives can be rather introverted and have self- isolating tendencies due to how sensitive and vulnerable to others they truly are. they can feel everything, and anything almost like a psychic sponge. their dreams can be riddled with the being communicative or in a way far more hand capable than they might actually be in the real world. They are so beautiful and gentle spirits but for a long time until they learn to fly free of Neptune's waves there mercury will be held in a glass cage.

Red + Kitchen. Domingo + Bedroom. Mikhail + Attic.
send me a character name + a room, and i’ll tell you my headcanons / open
/ Red / Kitchen
What is the character’s favourite food?
The man lives off diner food, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that his favorite meal is a nice cheeseburger coupled with soda and french fries. He’s partial to Kentucky-style BBQ ribs, chicken, and all that high blood pressure inducing good stuff (not counting breakfast foods, which he also enjoys, and soul food in general), and he’s aware of it, so he tries to mix it up with a healthy enough variants, lots of greens, lots of fruit, without exception. He tries to always have something green on his plate, and he’s no picky eater, so he will take anything you give him. But, indeed, his favorite is cheeseburgers.
Are they good at cooking? How good/bad?
He... can survive, but seeing as though he doesn’t have a set home, he doesn’t find himself needing to cook all that often, so you can’t catch him getting a lot of practice. But he’s adequate and won’t destroy a stove. He’ll do the basics just fine.
Do they leave the dishes out?
When he’s in Maine, he only eats for one, and after eating he immediately washes the dishes. So overall, no.
What kind of food is in their refridgerator?
You would find deli meat, a few vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, potatoes), eggs, sandwich bread, tortillas, fish (which he fished himself), chicken, a couple steaks -- just some basics to prepare whatever he needs to prepare, which is usually sandwiches and rice with some type of meat and vegetables.
Do they cook, eat out or get take-away/delivered food more?
They eat out almost... daily. Or at someone else’s place. Or takeout. It’s rare when he cooks for himself. It would seem more common when he cooks for others.
/ Domingo / Bedroom
How does this character sleep? (Position, sleeping habits, bedtime routines)
Dom checks all the locks to his apartment before being done for the night, and before bed itself, he brushes his teeth and washes his face or showers and shifts into his night wear.
When actually in bed, he sleeps on his back, sometimes on his side. He doesn’t move a lot, he’s the type that doesn’t shift and turn much, once he lies in one comfortable position, that’s just how he’ll wake up. He’s also neither a light nor heavy sleeper but he has... a sort of sixth sense for things. It can be supernatural, but it can just be Domingo, really. He won’t wake up if you’re his neighbor suddenly blasting music on the room next door. He will wake up if it’s the middle the night and he hears what appears to be his apartment’s door opened, or an unfamiliar, but faint set of steps (he remembers how people walk, this is a thing) or voice, even in the form of a whisper. He will wake up if you make what appears to be a small distressed sound, all the way in the kitchen. He’s an oddity. Overall, it depends on whether he’s alone vs when he has company. He sleeps on a somewhat always-ready-to-wake-up mode, but he’s open to accepting a lot more noises when he knows to be sleeping with someone or around people he knows, or it’s something relatively innocuous. Pack members could literally be making a ruckus and acting like fools out there and he would sleep all through it.
Also, he doesn’t snore. But sometimes he will mumble in his sleep. It’s usually one word only, and it’s not every night. It can be completely random. Usually it’s a command or some sort, or a name. Sometimes it’s a lover’s. Sometimes it’s a pack member’s. Sometimes it’s a family member, like his mother.
He’d like to have a set bedtime, but seeing he often has a lot of business during the night, he can’t. Most of the time, he sleeps from 1 to 9.
What are their pyjamas like?
Usually just sweatpants. He doesn’t need anything else, seeing as though he never feels cold.
What do they dream about usually?
See what I said about speaking in his sleep? He’ll be dreaming about that person in particular. He never remembers his dream, unless they’re nightmares. If they’re nightmares, they involve Panama and his youth.
How neat/tidy is this character?
Very. He’s very methodical, a man of structure. Everything has a place in his apartment, and he remembers where everything is. When it’s messy, it’s because he literally hasn’t found the time, and it kind of stresses him out.
How affectionate is this character?
With the right person, a fair amount. If he’s sleeping with someone, he doesn’t oppose to spooning, or them sleeping on top of him or vice versa -- he enjoys it. And outside the bedroom, he’s affectionate as well. It’s usually in the form of simple, light touches and gestures, and kisses. He’s not mushy by any means, but he likes to have the other person close to him. And with friends and what not, he’s not opposed to affection, when suitable. Wolves are physical in their communication, so it will also have an effect while human.
/ Mikhail / Attic
What is the character afraid of?
There isn’t much. Mikhail has seen many things in his lifetime, almost to put him on par with lesser gods and even some angels. He would be a little less than 400 years old if his soul followed a strict timeline, but that isn’t the case -- thousands of years old would be more accurate. He’s developed a kind of impervious nature.
In the immediate sense, you could say he worries for Charmaine, his latest charge (for reference, part of Misha’s job as a councilmember is to act as keepers/mentors/watchmen for potentially dangerous subjects/creatures/beings, people that aren’t aware of their strength, or that could lean toward the impulsive. He’s confident things will turn out okay, but things could always get a little out of control for whatever reason, and in circumstances like this, even brief blinks of time where he’s not reigning her in could be destructive for the world on a massive scale. It’s not a fear, but it’s something he keeps in mind.
How do they deal with bad memories?
He writes about them, reflects on them, talks about them, and lets them go. Whenever they wanna come back, he lets them.
What is this character’s role in a horror movie?
Probably the one who figures out how to kill/destroy the monster.
How do they hide their secrets?
1. Obsfuscating absentmindedness. If you don’t know exactly what he knows, you can’t never tell when he’s keeping something from you. 2. By never telling anyone.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins does the character relate to most?
Pride. It just fits. He’s not lustful, he’s not wrathful, he’s not gluttonous, or envious, or lazy, or greedy, so it comes down to pride. He’s proud of who he is, proud of what he’s done, proud of his work. He doesn’t tone himself down, be it in terms of speech, clothing or intelligence.

I've never written fanfiction (except one years ago that sucked) and I want to start getting into it. You are one of the best fanfiction authors I have read in a long time, or ever. Especially with your characterization, and writing platonic love/relationships. Seriously you are queen at those. Can you tell me how you go about understanding a character? Or just some tips? Also anything you have to say about writing platonic relationships? Random advice for new fic writers? I would be so thankful
Hey love, so first off, I’m so sorry for the lateness of this response. Life. Blegh. I wanted to give you a thorough response so bear with the short novel below xD
Thank you so so much for such a lovely compliment. Gosh! ♥ You’re making me blush. Now I want one of those sashes to wear and it says “queen” on it. And a crown. Oh yes, a crown absolutely! ;p
I think when it comes to understanding characters we always tend to gravitate to one we most associate with because it’s always easiest to write what we know. On the flip, we also gravitate sometimes to characters we really admire or want to be more like or just really, really like in canon and thus want to see them engaged in more adventures, but I do think we tend to like those characters for the above two reasons.
I’ve gotten pretty lucky with the VLD cast in that they’ve all, after a time, really just clicked in for me. Lance is obviously my favorite but I’m particularly fond of Hunk and also, surprisingly, writing Allura. Her dialogue and speech patterns tickle me pink. But in terms of trying to understand a character for writing purposes my best advice is to play 20 questions with them. Haha, bear with me.
When you’re getting to know someone the best way to do so is to ask them about themselves. It’s not just the answers though; imagine the way they would talk, gesture, their tone of voice (I’m a huge body language/non-verbal fanatic), etc. Then look at their answer. Start with basics and build a head canon or expound upon canon from there. Explain *why* to yourself that character particularly likes yellow (*cough Keith and sunrises with his dad cough*) and build a story. Then, when you’re writing go back to that palette you made and using it ask “what would ___ do in this situation?” The right answer isn’t always the first one. If you’re stuck, draft out a few ways to go about it and then compare. See which one “feels” right to you. And you have to remember, characters can change based on their situation. For example, Lance in Color is a very different Lance then you’ll find in Sin or Razzle Dazzle and definitely different then the one in A Name by Any Other because of what has happened in that story, but I think we’d all agree it’s still an in-character Lance (at least that’s the feedback I get from you guys~ ;p) The biggest thing is to find the “core” of a character and keep true to that. You can’t go wrong.
As for writing platonic relationships, I think it’s the same approach as any type of relationship. There has to be a connection between the characters and it doesn’t always have to be “good.” (i.e., siblings fighting, rivalries, etc.) but at the core they do have to care. It can be more of a surface caring – that’s a teammate – to start but what really makes a relationship something special is when there’s a deeper feeling behind it. And with a platonic relationship as compared to a romantic you aren’t necessarily so much as falling “in” love with that person but falling “with” love for them. If that makes sense? xD It’s not about appearances or superficial things like that. It’s about seeing them for the person they are beneath that and loving that person with all your heart because of those “core” attributes mentioned above.
With the VLD gang it comes so naturally to me for them to have these relationships and they sort of just fall in. I do disagree with the “space dad” moniker for Shiro and I think he would as well. He doesn’t want to be a dad; he’s got enough responsibility being team leader. He definitely fits more of the really responsible older sibling to me while Coran fills in the role of dad for me more, but more so for some than others depending on how they view one another.
If you’re starting out and want to write a good platonic relationship, I recommend starting with just a pair. Believe me, when you start throwing in three, four (cough, seven) characters it gets a little crazy to find a good balance. Pick two that you really think click and go for it. It doesn’t have to be a big complicated plot either to be an enjoyable fic. So long as the characters have *character* to them. That was my big problem with season four in that we had all this crazy awesome plot but almost no character development. Focus on that first and then tackle the plots and red herrings and twists and turns.
Um, any other random advice?
Write what *you* want to because that’s where you’re going to be most passionate.
On that note, write for *you*. That’s something I’m still trying to be better at. Write because you enjoy it; not because you want so many comment/kudos/etc. from others. That said, readers, please do comment if you like someone’s fic. It truly means the world ♥
If you get stuck on a scene try swapping the perspective; you can either keep it if you like it or it might offer you a fresh idea to go back to it. Or skip it for now and come back later; no harm in that either :)
Don’t be afraid to delete. I’ve blasted away whole pages when I go off on a different tangent (I write with almost no outline; a true pantser xD) and I know it’s hard to imagine all that time spent writing only to toss it, but sometimes you have to based on where your plot went. You can always save it in a spare word doc though if you did like it because maybe you can use it elsewhere in that fic or another one :)
I listen to music all the time and tend to make “soundtracks” for different fics. Highly recommend some good epic soundtrack battle music for any type of fight scene to keep those juices flowing!
Figurative language is your friend. While you don’t want to come off sounding like a sixth grader learning what a simile is, adding in good pieces when the situation calls for it really spices up a piece. With feeling!
This is for the reader/journalist/editor in me; please use paragraphs. Please please please. When starting new dialogue, paragraph. After 1-3 sentences depending on length, paragraph. Your readers and eyeballs will thank you.
Um, I hope some of that helps? Thank you again for the lovely comment and do hope to see you on site somewhere. Give a shout out~ ♥

Yukuhashi Ei
Tumblr media
A long black haired girl with low tone, calm and somehow whimsical voice bringing a bag full of charms, Ei is a miko who can see ghosts. Her family runs a Shinto shrine (jinja) in Tokyo 7th and she often helps her family as a Miko. Ever since she was a child, she could see ghosts, spirits, and demon and even got possessed by them, although she will not have any memory of the time she was possessed. When she was little, she was so used to running away from them, she actually becomes the fastest runner in Nanastar’s sport event Team Sun (lol–there isn’t any Rena there, so I don’t know which between the two are fastest haha). Other than her ability to see spirits, Ei is just an ordinary girl, who happens to be an idol.
Character
Empathetic
Ei is kindhearted and it doesn’t limit its meaning to merely human or living being, but also the spirits she met. In several episodes including her own, she was shown to be empathetic to spirits. She would let the spirits talk to her and she would try to help them as best as she could, or at least just be there to lend an ear. In Sawori’s 3.0 Ei showed great empathy over Sawori’s condition, and was willing to put her self on the line for her friend’s happiness and be Sawori’s “body guard” to avoid hurting herself. She also appeared to be very aware and sensitive, telling others to not move too fast in case it will hurt Sawori or if they would make Sawori felt bad. In Sisala’s 3.0, Ei was shown to be angry in Sisala’s place when someone was showing aggression towards them. She offered assistance and help to people in trouble, showing sensitivity over someone else’s condition. She also would rather not make people feel bad if she could, opting to not tell her friends of her reason for choosing clothes after they told her it’s unfashionable.
A pushover
Often being placed in either embarrassing or compromising situations, Ei would often look obviously reluctant or troubled when people (or ghost) are asking the impossible out of her (like asking her to cosplay). However, when it comes to someone’s happiness, she would eventually comply given enough persuasion–which usually came in rather easily. Ei was vehemently against becoming magical girl miko for Manon at first, however, albeit reluctantly, she eventually did do it (and actually very serious in it) if it were to make Manon smile again.
Sentimental sense of fashion
Ei has a weird sense of clothing for her everyday attire that her friends said it to be “dasakawaii” which basically lame, but cute. The only cuteness is because Ei is the one wearing, so perhaps in fashion sense it’s just lame. Turned out, Ei chose clothes not based on how they would look good on her, but the memories it holds. That is why her clothes often mismatched each other as each piece is for a memory of different person (like her grandmother, her mother, or the Nanastar idols).
Likes teasing people
With people knowing that she can see ghost, at times she teased people, especially those who are scared by ghost, by saying there are ghost near them or at least pretend that she would say so (only to say something different). An example was Kyouko, who is a scaredy cat, or even Shihainin himself.
Sensible
Common sense is actually one of Ei’s traits, where she questioned a lot of things in the universe that did not add up (such as Miko who use magic). Ei uses polite form when talking to her elder, properly use their honorofic, and is sensible to understand one need to hide something so as to not hurt someone else (such as in Sawori’s 3.0). She also often there to tsukkomi the others’ antics, actually being the straightman instead of the strange one in the team.
Actually is just an ordinary girl in so many meaning
Her other traits are all very “average”. She shows concern, but not the type that rush headlong right away or being too stubborn. She is kind, but still show displeasure for things that embarrassed her. She also tsukkomi a lot of the strangeness in Nanastar. She is perhaps one of the most… “ordinary” out of all the girls, which is also quite ironic, since she might one of the more unique ones with her ability to see ghost.
Character Development
Ei’s character development so far mostly revolves around how she cope, or rather, feel about her supernatural ability or her strangeness. In 1.5 it is expressed that her ability has brought her a lot of trouble since she was a child, however upon being able to help a ghost finding her smile back, she was able to accept that if by having the ability she could make at least those that departed find their happiness back or solve their unresolved feelings. In 2.5 Ei was also shown to use her Miko status to help Manon, and despite her initial reluctance, also believed that it was worth the smile of every children present at that time. She also often used her jinja’s purifying rites to help rid away bad luck from her friends, giving them to Murasaki and also to Sawori. In 3.5, it is shown that even her fashion sense is strange, it was because every clothing articles she wore had memories, the main reason why she chose them.
Relationship
Yamai Sawori
Sawori and Ei’s interaction happened in Sawori’s 3.0, where Ei was paired with Sawori along with Shao for a job. Upon hearing how Sawori desired to not getting wounded at least until a PV shot, Ei realized that something they felt as usual such as not getting injured, is actually something rare for Sawori and she has taken it for granted. She was touched by Sawori’s condition and willing to spend time everyday with Sawori to keep her out of trouble, making charms for Sawori, and even willing to risk herself for Sawori’s sake. They also had a very good relationship, holding hands together as they walk around town.
Kawasumi Sisala
Ei was part of the hip hop event along with Sisala and seemed to have bonded some what (although Ei did not remember much about that time). She was also the one Sisala and co. asked to turn into magical girl for Manon. In Sisala’s 3.0 Ei was shown to have cared a lot for Sisala, while also showing respect, using polite form of speech when she knew she was asking something sensitive. She also express worry upon knowing that Sisala might have to face her past alone.
Uesugi Kyouko
Ei and Kyouko has a light, easy going relationship where Ei was mostly just teasing Kyouko about ghosts. She was willing to design a “ghost hunter show” simulation for Kyouko at least, leaving markers all over Nanasis for Kyouko fight her fear.
Echizen Murasaki
Ei and Murasaki’s interaction happened in Murasaki’s 2.5 when she came to help with Murasaki’s school festival. The first thing that Ei did was telling Murasaki about all the spirits in her school and also told her to be careful of the haunted stairs. Murasaki seemed displeased however, telling Ei to not just tell her that easily about the ghosts in one’s own school. However, Murasaki still showed gratitude and cherish the help she got, also appeared happy when she was given a doll which Ei had also helped to put her jinja’s blessing on.
Xiao Fei Hung
Being assigned together with Xiao and Sawori, Ei and Xiao agreed to not let Sawori get hurt by keep on being with her. Ei appears to keep reminding Xiao to not show their real intention to be with Sawori so as not to make Sawori feels bad, also warning Xiao whenever she walks just a little bit faster, or seems like she will fall. The three of them bonded during their days together, shown to be very comfortable with each other at the end of the episode.
Araki Rena, Jeddah Diamond, Orisaka Ayumu
All three appeared in Ei’s episode 3.0, helping her to pick some new clothes. In the end, they were touched by Ei’s reasoning and with Ei only letting things go and did not bother to explain herself, they talked about how what a wonderful person she was and why her clothes are important for her.
Trivia:
The ‘Yuku” in Yukuhashi means “Death” while “Hashi” means “Bridge”, perhaps signifying how Ei could see those that have died yet has not yet crossed the bridge to another realm. The name Ei, although katakana, perhaps may mean “keen”, signifying Ei’s sixth sense ability to see spirits.
She collects charms, can do purifying rites, and other than ghost can see other spiritual phenomena. When she is possessed, her eyes will lit up purple.
Every time she is being offered a mascot/cosplay job, she would reject it by saying, “Leave those to Musubi!”
She calls her friends on first name basis without honorifics, showing a rather outgoing personality, but she properly use -san honorifics for those older than her.

Writing
Writing is a way of communication that represents language with signs and symbols. It is a medium to convey messages, give instruction and it can be stored for future references or transmitted across distance. Writing, in other words, is not a language, but a tool used to make languages readable.
Writing is a way to explain, educate, inform, and entertain one’s natural, social behavior, professional and personal point of view or philosophy or expertise to the specific or broad audience by using words and appropriate vocabulary in a systematic method and flow.
Writing relies on many of the same structures as speech, such as vocabulary, grammar, and semantics, with the added dependency of a system of signs or symbols. The result of writing is called text, and the recipient of text is called a reader.
The major writing systems—methods of inscription—broadly fall into five categories: logographic, syllabic, alphabetic, featural, and ideographic (symbols for ideas). A sixth category, pictographic, is insufficient to represent language on its own, but often forms the core of logographies.
The modern practice of history begins with written records.  Evidence of human history without written documents fall under prehistory.
Why writing is important:
1.       Critical skills to become a good reader
2.       An essential job skill
3.       It equips us with communication skills
4.       Help us express our emotions
Writing is a response. We write because we are reacting to someone or something. Writing may feel an isolating activity, just you and paper or computer but in reality, it’s a social act, a medium to respond to what’s happening around us.
When we write, we do so because we want, need, or have been required to create a fixed space for someone to receive and react to our ideas. Understanding this social or rhetorical context—that our readers may be, why they want to read our ideas, when and where they will be reading, how they might view us as writers—governs some of the choices we make. The writing context requires writers to have a sense of the reader’s expectations and an awareness of conventions for a particular piece of writing. The context of the piece further determines the appropriate tone, level of vocabulary, kind and placement of evidence, genre, and sometimes even punctuation.
Our ideas don’t arise in a linear format. We often have scattered dreams of related ideas. It is often through the act of writing that we begin to create the logical relationships that develop the idea into something that someone else may receive and perhaps find interesting. The process of putting ideas into words and arranging them for a reader helps us to see, create, and explore new connections. So not only does a writer need to “have” ideas, but the writer also has to put them in linear form, to “write” them for a reader, in order for those ideas to be meaningful. As a result, when we are writing, we often try to immediately fit our choices into linear structures.
When producing a piece of writing for an audience, experienced writers use systems they have developed. Each writer has an idiosyncratic combination of thinking, planning, drafting, and revising that, for him, means “writing” something. No matter how an individual describes his process negotiates the series of choices required in his individual context and produces a draft that begins to capture a representation of his ideas. For most people, this negotiation includes trial and error, false starts, contradictions, doubt about how the idea will be received, and satisfaction when they think they have cleared these hurdles successfully. For most people, this process happens through language.
Altogether, these elements make writing both interesting and challenging activities. One that is rich, complex and valuable.
Benefits of writing:
1.       It is a monetary skill
2.       Essential for you if you want to start a blog
3.       Helps in improving creativity, imagination, and knowledge
4.       Helps in increasing the level of debate and speech
5.       Writing improves your focus and connects you with yourself
Due to the evolution of information technology, writers are in demand to create digital media content such as digital marketing companies need a content writer. News websites need writer, social media marketing companies need writers and many other IT-related or non-IT companies needs a writer to help them through writing for digital marketing channels such as brand quotes, advertisements, social media posts, blogs.
Having a better writing skill helps you in becoming a freelance writer and earn a good amount of income by working from home.
To be successful in debate and speech not only need facts and figures but you also need effective ways to present these to the audience. And writing skills will be very helpful in that. That’s why there is a scriptwriter /editor job that exists. Writing skills will improve your vocabulary. You can use 10 words or 5 types of different sentences to point out your facts but it’s not possible if your vocabulary is not strong.
Tips on writing from great authors:
“The person who writes books must always be enveloped by a separation from others. That is one kind of solitude. It is the solitude of the author, of writing. To begin with, one must ask oneself what the silence surrounding one is—with practically every step one takes in a house, at every moment of the day, in every kind of light, whether light from outside or from lamps lit in the daytime. This real, corporeal solitude becomes the inviolable silence of writing. I’ve never spoken of this to anyone. By the time of my first solitude, I had already discovered that what I had to do was write. I’d already gotten confirmation of this from Raymond Queneau. The only judgment Raymond Queneau every pronounced was this sentence: “Do nothing but write.” ” - Writing, Marguerite Duras
“Good writing is often about letting go of fear and affectation, Affectation itself, beginning with the need to define some sort of writing as ‘good’ and other sorts as ‘bad’, is fearful behavior. Good writing is also about making good choices when it comes to picking the tools you plan to work with.” – Stephen King.
Fear is at the root of most bad writing. Readers are smarter then you think; don’t over-explain out of fear of misunderstanding.

Fat Fingers Can Cause More Them Embarrassment
5:06
In the last episode, I mentioned that I had brought up a controversial subject (Collin Kaepernick) and that people might tune out (the subject was controlling the conversation).
What is offending is not the episode but rather your poor grasp on basic spelling and grammar throughout many pages on this website.. By the way, if you want to sound like an authority, please learn basic spelling and grammar or hire someone (fiverr) to do it for you.. How do you have an education degree when this is how you write and communicate?
By the way, in the sub-title, “Freedom of Speach is Not Freedom from Consequences”- The word “speach” is spelled Speech. Any sixth grader knows that and certainly a g college graduate should know that as well.. It is not that hard. At least have your written copy proof read by someone who does know how to spell and write decently before publishing it to the world. Geez! I think that is pretty basic..
How again can you confidently charge $200 an hour for consulting when you have such poor spelling and grammar skills in your written web copy? You are a joke sir!
What college granted you a degree when you consistently cannot write legibly? and you are tying to sell yourself as an expert? Please! I will say again.. Please!
At least hire someone to cover your mistakes and not try to promote yourself as some sort of “expert” – You look like a damn fool sir
So I sent Mark Doyle and Email
Dear Mark,
Thanks for the comment. My Apologies for the typos. You're right I'm a damn fool and a joke of a human being...
Dave
Mark Sent Me a Reply
Mr. Jackson
I would like to take a moment and apologize for my comments and harsh criticisms. It was unwarranted and uncalled for and not like me at all to post something like that
Please accept my apologies Best of luck to you sir
Mark Made a Really Good Point in a Really Crappy Way
I hold no ill will toward Mark. Mark may have had a really bad day, and I have forgiven him. He did get me to check into why these typos got through (I was using two spell checkers, and Grammarly does a GREAT job). In a nutshell, I had logged out of Grammarly and it no longer was checking everything I typed.
There is Probably More Than One Way To Fix Your Issue
I had typed my show notes about an hour before I published them. I did this to "flush out" ideas before I pressed record. Then I thought, would this not work a day or two (or a week) in advance so I could come and look at the copy with "Fresh eyes." Yes, this could be done.
Another option would be to type shorter notes. This makes sense to a certain extent. I always want to have at least 300 words. I am currently at 1591.
If I pushed thing back even further than a few days, I could hire someone to look over my posts.
This is not an unsolvable issue. It just means I can't keep doing what I've always been doing.
Your Podcast Is Your Brand
In looking up different items about what makes a good brand, I kept seeing things that I saw that I had dropped the ball on.
Neglecting Public Perception: The public’s perception of your brand might not be the rosiest, but instead of chalking it up to bad luck or pointing fingers, it’s time to get serious about turning that frown upside down. (source).
Another article mentioned this as "Not providing great brand experience." Brand experience is not only about your stuff, but also your website experience and every other touch-point where customers come in contact with your brand. Another article stated, "Many savvy consumers judge credibility by grammar and attention to detail."
Why Branding Matters
The audience might feel:
You value quantity over quality when you get sloppy
You appear irresponsible
You appear uncaring
You think the audience stupid (as they won't notice)
You're not the most intelligent person on the planet.
The Internet Writes in Ink
While many blunders appear on the news and are replaced by tomorrows new headlines, don't plan on everyone's short attention span. Just ask Louis C. K (Sex offender), Chi-Fil-a (homophobic), Uber (employee Harassment), Target, Facebook, and many others (data breach), as well as other companies that have had topics that left a black eye.
It's Just a Podcast
22:15
You may be tempted to think, "It's just a podcast." That kind of talk will keep us in the "Minor Leagues" of content creators.
We end up with a stereotype that sounds a lot like this video or this video where we are all giant nerds.
Building Your Brand
You need to develop a brand strategy, and understand your business objectives and shift focus to that instead of designing a beautiful logo that won’t work. Also, realize your business strategy may be "THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS." With that in mind, you may want to blow off your brand. I would recommend you don't.
When you launch your podcast you are creating your brand. In looking at a TON of articles about branding, here are some things to consider:
22:35
Pat Flynn talks about the Four P's. These are: Places: You want to create your list of places where your target audience exists. This could be online or offline. I like to go to conferences, meetups, and events. My goal is to tell you the eye color of my target audience. It's not just in person, look at what publications they read (those kinds of things).
People: Look at the people in your space who already have a following. You don't do this to rip them off, but to see what is working. You can see what they are covering.
Products: Make a list of all the products and their prices.
Position: After you look at where they are, who they are following, and seeing the products, you can see if there is any place where you can take your unique perspective (where you explain things in a way that immediately obvious or cliche).
I love the quote by Seth Godin, "Don’t find customers for your products, find products for your customers.”
If you haven't read the book "Will it Fly" by Pat Flynn, you should. You can even listen to Pat Read it on Audible (you can get the book for free if you're a new customer) go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/freebook
You need to research your competitors, look for points of differentiation, then define who you are, who your customers are and how to connect with them
The Podcast Brand Experience
Some 23% of consumers say they would stop using a brand after a bad experience. (source) In that report, they were talking about dealing with rude employees, etc. However, in podcasting what is part of the experience:
Your intro/outro
Your audio quality
Your logo
Your voice (tone, accent)
Your grammar
How quickly you get to your topic
The relevancy of advertisements if you have them
Your volume levels
The quality of your content. Are you boring?
Your show notes (we did a whole episode on do people look at these?)
I'm Worried About This Post
As I write this in October of 2018, people are freaking out about the little things that often don't matter (what font on your artwork, what theme for their website) and while all of that is your brand, if you try to wait until everything is perfect you will NEVER start your podcast. Keep in mind you can change your brand (Dunkin Doughnuts is changing their brand to Dunkin, Starbucks used to have BOOBIES in their logo. BOOBIES!
What I Want You To Take Away
From time to time you may get some negative feedback. Some of it may be constructive, and some it may be cruel. Today my point is, no matter how feedback is provided you need to ask yourself, "Is it true? Do they have a point?" and in the case of Mark Doyle - he did and I thank him for that.
Ideas For Adding Merchandise To Your Podcast
I have an interview with James from Tee Public from the last day of Podcast Movement (hence the lack of voice, and the loud background).
Ideas on how to integrate merchandise with your show
How to sell without being "salesy"
There are more products - not just t-shirts
Now with coverage in the UK
More features coming very soon.

Muse Sheet
Everything you need to know on Franklin Mendel/Quandary under the cut.
General Info
Full Name: Franklin Mendel
Name Origin: Franklin - liberally free-thinking (Middle English); Mendel - comforter, guardian (Yiddish)
Nickname: Frank/Frankie - self-explanatory, really; Mend-All - as one of the more...grounded associates, Franklin’s established himself as quite the handyman in Nygma’s ranks and a jack-of-all-trades, taking up various roles when required.
Alias: Quandary - a state of perplexion and uncertainty over what to do during a difficult decision, typically of a moral nature.
D.O.B.: 19/07/87
Place of Birth: The Bowery, Gotham City East, USA - the lowest of the low, the worst Gotham has to offer. Bordered to the north by Crime Alley, the Bowery is home to Crown Point, a smaller inner-district ridden with crime, homelessness and prostitution. Underdeveloped and laden with the circulation of illegal drugs, police activity is at a minimum within the Bowery, while independent gangs rule the streets.
Ethnicity: Sicilian - born to Sicilian immigrants, Franklin identifies strongly with his roots, identifying more with the culture and history he was born into than that of the US he was raised within.
Religion: Roman Catholic - he was raised as such by his parents up until adolescence, where he started to assume a more casual degree of practice. While he acknowledges the concept of Catholicism as part of his heritage, Franklin isn’t an especially strict follower of the teachings, and would likely be considered a lapsed Catholic by most.
Place of Residence: The Cauldron, Gotham Central, USA - known for it’s organised crime, the Cauldron was run by Mickey Sullivan and the Irish mob - a sub-organisation of assassins who operated beneath Falcone - until Holiday wiped them out during Thanksgiving. As a gesture of goodwill, the territory was transferred over to the Sabatino crime family, Gotham’s oldest Italian mob, where it developed a reputation for housing and producing the city’s most feared hitmen.
Brief Description of Home: Franklin rents a top floor apartment on the outskirts of the Cauldron, consisting of a general living area and a sorry excuse for a bathroom tucked behind the door. He’s made a few repairs here and there to ensure everything’s functioning, but, if it weren’t for the blanket over the sofa - no bed, you see - or the coffee pot by the window, you’d be hard-pressed to believe anyone was living there. It’s poorly lit, cast in dreary greys and browns, and you’d be able to cross from one side of the room to the other in about three steps. Hardly ideal, but, in terms of putting a roof over his head and a minor base of operations, it serves its purpose.
Brief Description of Local Area: Much like your typical Gothamite, Franklin’s desensitised to the morbid ways of life within the city. Murder, theft, folk going missing overnight - hell, the middle of the day - are so commonplace, they’re scarcely worth fussing over - and, when you consider just how brutal the Cauldron can be, well, everything’s scaled up to eleven. Paranoia runs rampant in the streets, with friends turning each other over to the mob for a hefty fee, and blood will be spilled over petty disputes. Still, it’s ideally situated for ease of access to other areas of Gotham, and the Stacked Deck’s a fairly decent watering hole, if you can stomach the clientele.
Current Occupation: Henchman - well, if we’re being official. It’s a fairly broad term, so he’s dabbled in his fair share of laundering, theft, murder, extortion, blackmail, getaway driving, etc. in his service to the Riddler.
Income Level: Ehhh, it’s flimsy at best. He doesn’t have a conventional job, so there’s no money being made in his name. Whatever he does earn with Nygma tends to be split ten ways with other crooks, and deposited into cliched we’re obviously criminals swag bags, so, you can bet he’s not seeing a dime of that from all the times he’s spent behind bars...Good job he’s low maintenance, huh?
Education Level: As an orphan growing up in the East End of Gotham, Franklin never had access to nor the opportunity for a formal education. He was sitting around the sixth grade when his parents died, but everything he learned from that point on came from a significant degree of self-learning. Rarely would you find the urchin without a book, lost within the depths of literature and the human psyche. And, street smarts sure go a long way.
Do They Drive?: You’ve heard the saying like a duck to water, yes? Well, Franklin’s got a knack for that sort of thing, being able to adapt and account for numerous setbacks in areas he’s barely familiar with. He’s got a Mercedes S63 Coupe from Johnny Sabatino, as a gesture of their friendship and familial ties, but he’s rarely ever found himself needing to drive, when the labyrinth of Gotham’s a much more efficient means of crossing the city. He’s not beyond taking up the role of getaway driver when required, though.
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual - while he’s not beyond acknowledging someone’s attractive and breaking into a sweat on the subway, Franklin predominantly experiences secondary sexual attraction, in that a foundation of trust and familiarity must be laid out before considering any partners. Unfortunately, this may come across as being fairly prudish, or not getting laid ‘enough’, but, for Frank, the attraction/appeal simply isn’t there until he’s made the connection, at which point, the notions become a tangible force.
Romantic Orientation: Aromantic - while the definition of aromantic varies between individuals, for Franklin, the concept of romance seems arbitrarily and inconsistently defined. It’s foreign territory, uncharted land. An entirely abstract notion. Now, he’s experienced passionate friendships which fall outwith typical ‘platonic’ boundaries, but the concept of romantic idealisation and elevating one person over another on account of some trivial feeling seems well and truly illogical. His love is based on practical conditions - constancy, loyalty, trust, action - not chemical highs and giddy emotions.
Physical Appearance
Height: 6′1″ [1.88m]
Weight: 187lbs [85kg]
Body Type: Franklin has a fairly lean, nimble physique - while proportionate and somewhat defined, he’s not especially athletic. Shoulders, chest, calves, quads - they’re all there, present, accounted for, but not to the extent of, say, a model or trainer. It’s a practical mass, gained through everyday labour and hardship, not the product of ego or vanity.
Eye Colour: Dark Green.
Hair Colour: Light Brown
Hair Style: Fairly short at the back and sides, with just enough heft to naturally quiff at the front.
Skin Tone: Light Olive - not as prominent as, say, other Sicilians, but definitively not white, either.
Prominent Features: He’s got an arrowhead-esque range of moles upon the head of the left deltoid, and a nasty scar on the inside of his bottom lip, courtesy of the Sabatino initiation process.  A tattoo of his parents’ initials on the inside of his left ankle, and one at the base of spine - domando, Sicilian slang that combines the Italian for query and demand. A few scars and bruises here and there from the previous week’s scrapes, but nothing too permanent or long-term, ‘til next time.
Dress Style: In spite of his line of work, Franklin isn’t a flashy sort of guy - if anything, his wardrobe’s the goldilocks zone of comfort and practicality, while maintaining that dreary pseudo-noir Gotham aesthetic. Long sleeved sweaters, cotton shirts, military jackets, grey denim, contrast jumpers, shirt jackets, leather boots, etc. etc. Greys, browns, greens. Everything you’d expect from a mobster-turned-Riddler henchman.
Accessories: He wears a brown leather watch on his left wrist, and used to carry his mother’s engagement ring around on a silver chain, but pawned it off in his youth for petty change during an all-time-low.
Grooming: Besides a light stubble every now and again, Franklin’s fairly well-maintained - not to the point of excess, mind you, or devoting too much time to his appearance; mostly the I woke up like this, groggily ran a brush through my hair and voila! look. You know the type.
Speech and Language
Rate of Speech: Franklin has a fairly fast, almost erratic, means of communication. It stems from finding difficulty in making the connection between his thoughts, what he wants to say and actually saying it in a way you’ll understand. By extension, if he’s ever explaining something, he’ll typically make a conscious effort to slow down, to ensure you’re keeping up - it may come across as condescending at times, but, hey, you’ll know all about it if he is.
Accent/Dialect: He boasts a fairly prominent New Jersey dialect, with the trademark diphthong and underlying slur. On paper, coffee and chocolate become ‘caw-fee’/’chawk-let’, park and dark become ‘pah-k’/’dah-k’. He’s aware of the negative stereotypes surrounding the dialect the ‘lazy’ pronunciation of vowels and absence of r’s, but he’s not going to go out of his way to mask or distance himself from it. Far as he’s concerned, it’s part of who he is.
Tone: The tone of his voice is comfortably within the middle ranges, not especially high, nor particularly deep; somewhat rasped in the lower regions, heavily accented when caught in the moment. Rarely will you ever hear him raise his voice, either, for there’s a distinct sense of control and reservation at play - it’d be illogical for him to be saddled by emotion and impulse, so you’ll find he conducts himself with a calm, authoritative air.
General Speech Pattern: For the most part, Franklin’s just your everyday Gothamite - he may be in Nygma’s employ, but he’s not going to run around using flowery language, accusing everyone of being imbeciles, flaunting his intellectual superiority through antiquated words. He values words, he values meaning, so he can often come across as being fairly reserved in terms of interaction, for he's pretty damn selective in what he says, speaks only when there’s a point to be made or a conversation of value.
Mannerisms/Demeanour: In contrast to Nygma’s theatrical flamboyance, Franklin’s much more...reticent. It may be mistaken for a brooding, stoic disposition, but he’s much more sure of himself and his ability to get his point across without the grandeur Nygma so readily employs. He’s calm, cool, collected. Patient. Not so easily riled. Truth is, he often finds himself cringing when Nygma gets in the zone, since the whole ordeal’s so painfully obnoxious, but, hey, gig of the century.
Typical Posture: He’ll typically stand straight and proportioned, but not rigid. Circumstance may see him slouch a tad if he’s been lingering for a particular length of time, but, generally speaking, he’ll remain upright to the best of his ability.
Common Gestures: Franklin has a tendency to fold his arms so that each thumb rests under the bicep, while his fingers lightly tap upon the top. It’s not so much a sign he’s uncomfortable or anxious, more...a means of occupying himself, stimulating his mind and body, where it’s otherwise lacking. The occasional foot-tap makes an appearance, too.
Everyday Behaviour/Habits
Finances: As mentioned during the ‘income level’ section, every penny Franklin makes comes from his criminal activity with Nygma. There’s no need for him to be cautious or prudent with regards to his spending habits, for he spent so much of his life on the streets anyway that the concept of money seems pretty damn nonsensical. If he wants something, he can simply take it, for he’s already damned as far as a criminal record goes. Besides, he’s not exactly high maintenance - he’s pretty much living on microwave meals, take-outs, a few repair materials and strong black coffee.
Vices: Franklin’s partial to the odd glass or two of Amaretto, with a large bottle tucked away in his apartment. One’s kicking about somewhere in Nygma’s HQ, but its current whereabouts are, as yet, unknown. He’s also dabbled in weed from time to time, but nothing so extreme as to impair his judgement or performance. Nor does he bolster an addiction.
Daily Routine: It’s nigh impossible to map out a typical day for Franklin, since so much could change on the turn of a dime. He’ll roughly wake for around 8-9am, take a leak, brush up, etc. etc., keeping his phone nearby in the event Nygma calls, then grab breakfast on-the-go as he paces across Gotham to find intel of his own, people to extort, victims to test. Nygma’s not exactly running a criminal empire, so Franklin doesn’t need to be on his hands and knees 24/7 for him, he’s got a life outwith being a henchman. Having said that, should he not be required, he’ll be left with a significant amount of time to fill, prompting him to either make some repairs back home, check over everything at HQ, or take one of Nygma’s traps for a spin. Coming home, it’d be your standard washing away the blood of your victims, watching mostly-static over a microwave meal, then curling up on a ratty sofa with no remorse for the people he killed. Not his fault they didn’t have what it takes to survive. Clearly didn’t want to live enough.
Skills/Talents: Critical thinking; innovation; diplomatic; articulate; intuitive; adaptable; integrity; polyglot; mechanical engineering; woodwork; psycho-analysing; philosophical; light-footed; silk touch; quick-witted; driven.
Weaknesses: Franklin doesn’t do too well when it comes to being called out or contradicted - his thoughts essentially haze over, struggling to overcome the sudden obstacle, leaving him pretty damn stuped. While boasting a mean right hook, he’s also not the most skilled fighter, meaning he could easily go down if outnumbered or overpowered.
Hobbies: Woodwork; learning; geocaching; poker; hiking; orienteering; camping.
