i have thought somewhat about what impulse would be like in wotr (aside from deeply hilarious, on account of them being a 20-22 year old dipshit put in charge of the fifth crusade. literally it'd just be like if you made woljif the KC). i was leaning towards aeon at first on account of the whole ego death, transformation into something cold & inhuman, the space motifs, emphasis on Logic and Reason, all that. but the focus on Justice - the self-sacrifice in pursuit of it (or at least the aeon's vision of it) - means it just doesn't work, because fundamentally impulse is a very selfish person as much as they (at least at the start) would like not to be, and i'm not sure they even believe in justice as a concept (virtue & idealism is a luxury they've never been afforded). so the real answer i think is trickster->swarm

𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: Bo Sinclair x Fem!reader + mentions of Vincent
𝐑𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓?: ✔️ @whatitshouldvebeen hope you like it pookie, sorry it took so long😗
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆: NSFW❗️SMUT❗️dub/non-con, (DON’T READ THIS IF THAT IS A TRIGGER FOR YOU) ❕MDNI❕Use of degradation & praise, (mostly degradation sorry) mentions of blood & violence, pet names, canon!Bo, Stockholm Syndrome type situation, sub!reader, possesive!Bo, Dacryphilia, fingering (f receiving), p in v, spit play, hatefucking
𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: Vincent decides to use you as his “muse” for a new wax figure in the Museum, and though it may be a sweet gesture to you Bo doesn’t think so. Not at all, and it’s obviously your fault. So who better to punish than you?
☽♢☾
You’re in the kitchen cleaning up after a night of blood pools and broken glass. One of the tourists who’d decided Ambrose was a cozy spot to fill his tank found out rather fast that it comes at a cost. His life being the payment.
Vincent’s sitting across the room from you at the table, his one blue eye seemingly studying your movements with a slight tilt of his head. His fingers toying one of his many sculpting tools between them, gaze burning into you. The silence deafening while you sit there on your knees, crimson spattered rag in hand scrubbing the creaky floorboards.
“You wanna take a picture Vince?” You snicker. Glancing up to catch his reaction but he’s stood upright now just inches away from your kneeling figure. “Goddamn!” You gasp, your hand pressed tightly to your chest.
“Didn’t even give me a chance to breathe! You’re seriously the fastest fucker I believe I’ve ever met.” You squeak playfully, Vincent’s grunt of approval making you giggle.
You’ve grown quite close to all three Brother’s, Lester a little less than Vincent but Bo more than either of them. And he makes sure the others know just how 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 you are. Your desperate cries for benevolence etched into the walls from the night he caught you lingering around longer than you should’ve. The scars he left then now littering your body and mind for as long as you can remember.
Your eyes fixated back to the task at hand. Fingers beginning to ache at how hard you’ve peeled the desaturated blood off the floor, you can’t help but wonder how many more will seep away to nothing more than a stain in the rotting wood beneath you. You shake your head, the thought rattling around for a moment but dissipating shortly after.
“Hey Vince, care to grab me another rag? This one’s about to start ripping at the seams-“
You practically choke on your words at the sight of Vince now knelt down in front of you, his smooth hand caressing the flush that’s crept onto your cheek. His thumb gently tracing the lines that are naturally imprinted into your skin as you sit there frozen.
Dumbfounded, you reach up and place your hand atop his. Searching for an answer internally and externally, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜? Hopefully nowhere close to what you suspect considering his hobbies.
“Uh, Vince?” You ask softly, a lump formed so tight in your throat that you feel like you’re suffocating. He just stares back at you like every word you’ve spoke has fell upon deaf ears.
He signs “You’re lovely. Would take forever to sculpt such a pretty thing.” His demeanor flashing something more than just curiosity causing your jaw to tighten.
“Could use some practice if you’d care to pose for me. Be the perfect muse.”
He continued on, only increasing the gnawing anxiety in your gut. Among the flustered butterflies smacking against your rib cage. You knew Bo would be pissed if he ever caught wind of this, hearing or let alone walking in and seeing it for himself.
“Vince..” You pause. Your eyes flickering to the right, then the left. 𝙊𝙝 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙩.
Bo’s face is contorted with anger as his slanted figure stands positioned against the doorframe pulling you back to reality. You hurriedly push yourself off the floor, Vince scurrying backwards as Bo chuckles to himself. His presence unabated as it fills the room.
“Well, what’do we have here?” He mocks. Glaring at Vince first, then turning his half lidded eyes to meet yours, shooting daggers right through your chest.
Your heart pounds. His pupils are swallowing his irises whole. Used to he could disguise that look pretty well, but you’ve grown all to accustomed to the predator that’s always preying on you. The man who’s marked you in more ways than one that’ll last a lifetime.
“Bo, I can explain-“ You stammer. Voice barely amounting to a whisper but it’s silenced completely as Bo cuts you off.
“Shut the fuck up.” Bo barks, his voice gruff and threatening as he points a finger to you, daring a word to fall from your lips as he lunges at Vincent. Making him stumble back against the wall, his head hitting first as Bo’s hands clutch his shoulders to stand him still.
“You wanna explain yer’self?” Bo grumbled. “Or do I gotta beat it outta you first?” His fingers grip the fabric of his Brothers sweater, pulling him forward then ramming him back into the wall with a loud thud.
A muffled wince of pain strains behind Vincent’s mask, he raises his hands in reticence. Trying to deescalate the situation.
“Didn’t mean nothing by it. Only using her as means to create better, more realistic figures.” He signs. His one eye searching Bo’s for some sort of understanding, but all he gets is a sneer. Bo’s lip curling up into a cocky smirk as he drops Vincent’s shoulders.
“That so?” He snorts. “We both know that’s a lie. You’d be on’er like flies on shit if I’d let cha’ ya fuckin’ pest. Now git. I said git!”
Vincent storms out of the room and Bo runs a grease covered hand through his hair, a sadistic cackle bouncing off the walls as he turns around to find you cowered in the corner. Your eyes wide with fear as he saunters over.
“Awh, sweetheart. What’sa matter?” He taunts. Bending down in front of you, his cologne and the smell of whiskey flooding your senses. You try to find the words to say but they’re stuck. You’re stuck, you can barely think straight.
“I asked ya a fuckin’ question.” He snarls. His calloused hand claws at your jaw, his fingers digging into the fat of your cheeks roughly pinching your lips into a pout.
“I’m sorry- I just, I can’t..” You trail off, voice shaky as Bo’s hot breath fans over your face. His hand pulling you closer to him by the grip on your cheeks, a choked back whimper crackling in your throat.
“Can’t what?” He asked softly. His tone condescending but dripping with that honeysuckle Southern drawl that makes you weak in the knees.
Bo’s sharp tongue darts out to wet his lips and your eyes follow its movement. Nothing ever goes unnoticed when it comes to you like a cat with a mouse, he’ll let you think it’s safe to stray away and as soon as you think you’re safe he’ll pounce and sink his teeth in without warning.
He taps your lower jaw with his fingertips. Your eyes squeezing shut as he leans in, his nose gently brushing against yours.
“Cat got your tongue? Or you jus’ too busy thinkin’ bout Vince ta’ spit out an answer.” He tsks. Tongue clicking against his teeth as he jerks you upwards. His hand now snaked around your neck. Your feet slightly coming up off of floor. “Look at me when I’m talkin’ to you girl. Don’t get all shy now.”
You cough against the rigidity of his fingers delving into the sides of your throat, your eyes popping open and heartbeat thrumming in your ears, his lips now hovering above yours. You clasp your hand around his wrist as he peers down at your unnerved expression. A smug grin plastered on his pretty face.
“Bo- Fuck, please just stop.” You pant, each breath you take shorter and shallower than the next. A low sigh pulling from your lungs as he closes his hand tighter around windpipe. You swear you could hear it crunching.
“Don’t think I will darlin.’ As a matter’a fact, think I’ll do whatever I damn well please.”
Your eyes flicker up to meet his, staring up at him through heavy lashes as your peripherals cloud with hazy darkness. A subtle pulsing between your legs causing you to shift, embarrassment bubbling up and spilling over as your body reacts to him, knowing it’ll only betray you further if you fight.
“You’ve been misbehavin’ a lot these past couple days sugar.” He purrs against the side of your face. His free hand coming up to grapple the dip in your waist causing your thighs to squeeze together a little too fast. Bo chuckles through gritted teeth.
“Think it’s time ta’ remind ya’ what happens when I let ya’ off yer leash. Since you’ve bitten off a bit more than you can chew.”
“I’ve not done anything, was just trying to clean. Honest.” You bleat. Tears trickling down your face. The thought of what he’s planning on doing to you raiding your already tattered mind. “Please- Don’t hurt me.”
Your lower lip quivers as his eyes glaze over you, your cheeks flushed a deep red and chest heaving. Awaiting your punishment as he stands there menacingly.
You can’t help but gawk at him. He’s got such pretty eyes, and his hands are so experienced yet 𝙨𝙤 deadly. Who could 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙮 resist? You’re acclimated to this place, this man. You have nothing left to lose and nothing more to gain.
“S’a shame ya’ gotta be so desperate when I’m not around. Can’t leave ya’ alone for a second without you missin’ having one in ya.” He slurs, his jaw tightening as he pushes his lips against the shell of your ear. Tongue tracing it lightly causing your body to shudder.
“My Brother can’t fuck you as good as I can”, He husked. “And I’ll be damned if I sit back and watch him try. ‘Specially when yer’ eager to please.” That snarky smile forming against your skin. “Nothing but a fuckin’ whore.”
Your heart is hammering. Legs wobbly, you’re lightheaded and on the brink of passing out as his fingers dance against your pulse points. But a piercing shot of air fills your lungs suddenly causing you to sputter and choke as he releases you. Your feet plant flat on the ground, hand frantically lacing itself around the handprint that now sits like a necklace on your throat. His hands falling at his sides, tucking into his pockets with a huff.
“I don’t think of Vince that way!” You yell at him, your voice broken and dry in your throat. Bo’s brooding facial features making your skin crawl as he rakes over your unsteady figure. “Yeah?” He belts out. His head dropping down and back up with a sadistic cackle. “Bet yer’ soakin’ wet right now.”
Your stomach drops and your legs nearly give out. You 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 if he was to reach his hand between your legs and touch you right now his fingers would be drenched.
Bo inhales deeply through his nose. Letting out a long, breathless, sigh. “I can smell you. Ye’ ain’t hidin’ nothin’ from me.” He uttered. A growl rumbling in his chest as one of his hands fists your hair gripping it hard between his fingers. The weight of his body now flush against yours.
“Every. Fuckin’. INCH of your body is mine.” Bo snarled. His breathing loud and rugged, fuming with whiskey and desire. His grip on your hair stiff as a board, your scalp stinging from the force of him holding your head back.
“Bo- Bo, I’m sorry please? I’m yours, only yours.” You plead. Tears sliding off of your cheeks. The salty streams glistening down your neck and chest, staining your sternum. What a mess you are already. 𝙋𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.
Bo’s jaw cocks open like a boa constrictor and his tongue drags a long hot stripe up your jugular, catching your fear on his tongue. A groan seeping out of his mouth like blood from an open wound. Your teary eyes and battered body only making his already hardened cock strain against his zipper.
“That tight lil cunt between yer legs belongs ta’ me too. Ain’t that right honey?” He cooed. “So pretty when you cry’fer me like that.”
𝙁𝙪𝙘𝙠. He’s got you. He has you right where he wants you, where he always has you. Right on the edge of insanity and serendipity. You break pathetically at the slip of his knee between your legs, his muscular thigh pushing up into your core. The friction of his jeans alone makes you whine but it’s effortlessly snuffed out as Bo’s lips crash against your own.
Your head is fuzzy and your limbs are numb like venoms slithered beneath your skin through his saliva. Disintegrating you from the inside out as your lips move on their own accord.
“Yes Daddy.”
“You’re disgusting ain’tcha?” His eyes blown wide with lust and his hands full of rage he yanks you by your hair that’s tucked into his fist with one swift motion turning you around.
Your back arches and your face slams against the wall, the taste of copper filling your mouth. Bittersweet as Bo’s free hand slides up the back of your thigh, your ass pushing back against it as his fingers hook into the fabric of your shorts pulling them to the side. Your body shifting at the chills that rip their way up your spine. 𝙍𝙪𝙣 𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙗𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙪𝙣, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙧.
“Look at that.” Bo panted, watching the arousal that’s bubbled and seeped out from your core spread and string to the outside of your lips with each buck of your hips.
“Fuckin’ pathetic ain’t it? Getting all hot’n bothered by someone who kills for a livin’?” He chided, his middle finger swiping through your folds in a downwards motion grazing your clit. “Y’should be ashamed of yourself girl.”
𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚. You should be fighting this, fighting him. Running as far as your tired body could carry you, but no. Instead a moan rolls off of your blood slathed tongue earning the tip of Bo’s ring finger circling the edges of your entrance. “Please?”
“Please what?” Bo asked well aware of the answer. His one digit quickly turning into two as he pushed them inside you down to the second knuckle. Angling them upwards, rubbing against that spongy spot that has you speaking his name like a prayer worthy of an altar.
You squeaked in response. Hips plummeting backwards to plunge them as deep as they’ll go, your walls fluttering around them. 𝙍𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛, 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛, 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛.
“Ah ah!” He scolds. “Who the fuck told you ta’move huh?” You pout as your desperate attempt to give yourself what you didn’t ask for comes to a halt. Bo’s left hand vigorously rips itself from your scalp, scraping his jagged nails down your spine as he traces the vertebrae, a bruising grip now glueing you in place.
“Dirty fuckin’ slut”, he groans. “Fucking yer’self with my fingers like a bitch in heat.” You revel in the disgusting sounds of your juices splashing onto his wrist as his fingers twist inside you. His voice cracking you open and leaving you helpless. The pleasure that’s jolting through you lights you on fire, your legs trembling and your stomach tightening. Unable to fight the biting urge to be filled to the brim with him.
“Oh my God- I want your cock. Need it.” You babble, almost incoherently as your moans turn into sobs. Bo hums low in his throat adding a third finger and you clench hard. The agonizingly slow stretch of your walls making you mewl. “That’s right sweet girl. Let me hear ya’ beg proper.” He licked his lips and spit a wad of saliva onto your cunt. Pulling his fingers out to smack through your folds harshly, eliciting a string of curses to fall from your swollen lips.
Your legs buckle as your knees go to give out but Bo catches you by your hips. Your head starts to spin as the sound of his zipper sparks every nerve, every fiber of your being. You tilt your head back to catch a glimpse of him, his eyes lock onto yours and his eyebrows knit together. “Fuck you lookin’ at me for?”
Your jaw quivers with adrenaline as your head is slammed into the wall once more. Fingers digging into the supple flesh of your love handle, his cock now pressed firmly against your pussy from underneath. The tip grinding against your clit with ease as he collects your juices by rocking his hips back and forth slowly.
“I know why”, he rasped. “Cause yer a cock hungry whore. Ain’t that right sugar?”
“Yes Daddy.”
“Whad’ya want?”
“Want- I want..” You stutter and before you can even think a loud, pornographic, moan echoes out of your lungs as he pushes himself inside you with one deep thrust. Your walls clenching as the tip of his cock kisses your cervix, the pain and pleasure sending you into a frenzy. “Oh- Oh my fucking GOD! Bo, Bo, please!”
You could cum right here but you know better. You know the fullness you feel right now will cease and the emptiness that gnaws at the back of your skull will replace it instead.
“Ah fuck, that’s right honey. I’ll be your God.” 𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙪𝙡, 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙗𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙢𝙮. “Pussies s’fuckin’ good baby.” Bo groans and your head starts to pound. His fingernails biting at the skin on your hipbone as he picks up a relentless pace, your ass bouncing off of his hips deliciously with each thrust. Face repeatedly scraping against the withering wood pricking the rosy parts of your cheeks leaving them hot and raw.
He reaches his hand to your mouth and you open. Tongue darting out to wrap around his fingers but he jolts his hips upwards and you cry out. His middle finger hooking into the side of your jaw, stretching your mouth out as he fucks you stupid. “Fuck, fuck-“ Your eyes flutter shut as fresh tears fall and he wipes one off with his thumb. The taste of his skin setting your twisted desire for him into overdrive and your stomach churns as the familiar coil starts to tighten and thrash through you.
“No use in cryin’ bitch”, he growled. His balls slapping against your clit and his head now resting in the crook of your neck from behind, his canines scraping your pulse that vibrates against his lips. “Wasn’t sad when Vince was on his knees drooling all over ya’, or when he touched you. You fuckin’ liked it.”
Your pussy throbs and your hands grab at the wall in front of you helplessly. Nails chipping and teeth baring as he pounds into you. You’re not going to last much longer. How could you?
“No. No, no-“ You sob and he rips his fingers from your lips roughly, slathering your own saliva all over your face. Clasping his big hand over your mouth and nose, your eyes roll back and your cunt coats his cock in spurts as he slams his hips into you. 𝙄𝙣, 𝙤𝙪𝙩. 𝙄𝙣, 𝙤𝙪𝙩. Hard and deep strokes till your body goes limp and your moans turn to mush in your brain.
“Shut yer fuckin’ mouth cunt. Open up wide for me. 𝙔𝙚𝙖𝙝 just like that.”
Bo almost whines as his thrusts become sloppy and your juices drip down his thighs. His own orgasm picking him to pieces as you suck him in so eagerly. Regardless if you want it, he knows you can’t deny him. You 𝙬𝙤𝙣'𝙩 deny him. You’re his and 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 his and he’ll make sure you never forget it. If he has to shatter every sliver of hope that you cling too by God he will. And you’ll beg him for more each time.
“S’good for me when ya’ wanna be baby,” he cooed. Making your heart sink and your body ache to be anywhere but here in this moment though you yearn for it when he’s not looking. Fucking stupid fuck.
He kicks your legs open farther with the toes of his boot thudding against your ankle. Almost knocking you off balance as he jerks you back into him, you can feel his cock pulsating as he finally paints your walls white with his cum. Your body basically lifeless as he ruts inside you, mumbling curses and sweet nothings into your ear. And no matter how much you plead with yourself to remember who he is, the invisible noose he has tied around your neck reminds you who you belong too. Who you’ll 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 belong to. You’re swallowed whole.
Bo pulls out and immediately tucks himself back into his boxers as you stand there with his spend dripping out of you and onto the floor, inner thighs slick with a disgusting mixture of your cum and his. “Get cleaned up”, he grumbled. Throwing a random dirt tinged rag onto the floor in front of you.
“Want yer ass back in the kitchen in 5 or I might have ta’ get Vince back in here. Show him how a real man takes care of what’s his.”
With a wink and a satisfied grin Bo disappears into another part of the house. Leaving you in the same way he found you. Weak at the knees and starving for something to heal the wounds you mindlessly reopen every time he’s around.

Talking to Mom today about everything I didn’t get done today....
Me: Well, there’s always tomorrow.
Mom: Not always.
***sigh***
(Gonna keep my venting where it belongs....below the cut.)
And so I find myself wondering if this is just Mom’s usual combo of being a stickler for accuracy and having a casually, cheerfully pessimistic nature...or if something specific has her down.
While I puzzle that, I find myself thinking “Gee, she has a point. I’ve been feeling like I have no future anyway.”
And people wonder why I say my smiling and loving mom is horrible at being reassuring or encouraging. I used to ask her to just lie to me and tell me things would be okay when I was worried or scared, but it’s just not her nature. I mean,  if I was really sick and asked her if she thought I might be dying, she’d say “Probably not, but maybe. It’s possible.” Which oddly isn’t very comforting.....
Maybe that’s why the characters I daydream up are so good at saying things like “It will be alright” or “You can do this” or “That was amazing”. I can imagine up the things I never get to hear. Oh, and the hugs that even when she was here  to hug didn’t come naturally.
She doesn’t really get it, you know. Why would you need to hear these things? Words can’t effect the future or alter the past, and you shouldn’t need someone effect how you emotionally cope. Certainly you shouldn’t need praise to know whether you did well. Your emotions are your own.
It’s her nature, you see. Like her absolute disinterest in small talk or gossip. Her coworkers used to tease her saying she was the least curious person they ever knew, which annoyed her. She was curious about things, just never ever about other people’s private lives. To her, I think we exist in emotional, self sufficient, bubbles, individual worlds that can be seen from a distance but effected very little through the space between us.
Trouble is, for me whils we are individual worlds, we are also  worlds that don’t always have everything needed for life to thrive. Most people are always lobbing figurative rockets towards each other, sometimes bombs but sometimes needed supplies. Much as we may fear getting blown up, we hope for those supplies. And the more explosive impacts we take, the more we actually need those benevolent rockets to recover. We aren’t completely emotionally self contained, but systems of worlds.
But maybe once your planetary surface is blasted to raw rock, no longer pretty and inviting, no one wants to waste their time sending supplies and all you get are the malevolent firing potshots for the laugh of blowing more bits off. Maybe then being self contained would be better.
I wish I were more like Mom, never craving or hoping for some sort of external positive reinforcement. But we are wired differently, and sometimes I ache those seemingly unimportant little words.
Still, if I got them I wouldn’t probably know how to deal with them. For instance,  do you accept compliments or praise? Growing up my parents just expected and took for granted I would behave a certain way and could do most things well, and whenever I failed there must be a good reason, so there was no need to comment much. Teachers flat out said that good grades and behavior were their own rewards (BS, I STILL have sticker envy of the slow classes), and they only commented when I did poorly in order to delight in their bizarre victory over me.** And do you know what it meant whenever peers said something nice? It was always, ALWAYS, as set up for a bit of bullying. “Nice hair” would be followed, if I was fool enough to thank them, with “for a rat’s nest!!” and howls of laughter...
And the dirty secret of life is adulthood changes nothing. Oh, a few people get lucky. Somehow they find the right friends, they get repect for the things they do, or maybe someone even falls in love with them. But not everyone. The people with power over you, the people in your close circle may change, and who you might consider peers may widen, but it’s the same thing over and over for some us.
Will I go to my grave craving someone to say “It’s going to be okay” or “Great job!” or “I’m so proud of you!” or even just a simple hug when I’m crying? Or will I finally figure out Mom’s trick not ever feeling a need for such things?
I dunno. Today I just kinda would have settled for a “Yes, tomorrow might be better”, true or not. My hope supplies are running really low right now and a rocket with a little would go a long way......
**NEVER believe teacher’s pet bullshit. Teachers often develop is strange hostility to smart students, especially ones that that don’t kiss ass, or are peculiar,  or independent minded. I remember being shocked and confused in elementary school when I realized some of my teachers actually felt threatened by me. ME, who never in my life wanted to hurt anyone’s feelings or show anyone up, who did my damnedest to never do my best.
If you are exceptionally well behaved, even if it is out of anxiety, that makes it worse. Everyone hates the nice, polite, and quiet kids. If you stick to a code of ethics there is a resentment, this assumption it’s an act, a mask they need to rip off. Nothing like having a teacher interogate you for days trying to get you to confess to a misbehavior you never did, because “everyone else” did it so you must have too, to make you realize what they really think of well behaved kids.
In my experience most teachers are like bullying cops, eager to nail you for something, anything, so they can feel better about themselves. Good teachers exist in theory, but there was a reason this straight A student fantasized about blowin’ up the fucking school building!

@zookeeps :  “Here, take a sip.” Also Aslan probably in dad mode
LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THE PATH OF A HERO is as DANGEROUS as it is REWARDING . to have adopted an oath of justice / a vow of benevolence & to uphold the essence of philanthropy is something ne’er to be seized lightly . hours & hours spent in multitudes of chases after crime ,     back to back to back     , as if the day prior were to be the very last day of all existence & from thugs to villains , the bloodlust for chaos was impossible to r e s i s t . from the moment he awoke this morning to his current position within zoo’s INFIRMARY ( splayed about ‘pon medical bed sheets / blanket cascading o’er side & nearly touching the ground & burdened with     concerning fever      ) , peter’s deteriorating condition has affected not just himself , but ALL ‘round him . whilst performing mundane duties , the heat of day’s weather -- despite having worked primarily underneath shade -- attributed to a worsening of health status & he plummeted ‘fore anyone could notice quick enough to secure him .
delicate whimpers leak ‘tween chapped lips / the entirety of musculature burns as though he’d been set ablaze , both internally & externally & e’ery vein within sets off like a current . breathing is labored , vision hazy with a varied amount of dark circles casting throughout his sight . he scarcely makes out the silhouette of aslan’s figure looming o’er his & although peter is unable to properly identify his expression , through his seemingly leveled voice , he can detect a layer of WORRY .
                                                 here , take a sip .
& he does , weak framework lifting as much as possible to swallow down a gentle sip of much needed hydration , already on the verge of slipping into an alarmingly dehydrated state . ‘ h - hey . . ‘ he attempts to speak , albeit hoarse & debilitated , as though he’d spent the last twenty - four hours doing nothing but SCREAMING .

A Rainbow of Fury: Dragons, Colors and Their Meaning
Dragons are numerous in the world of Deaco, and they’re all across the board in terms of power, standing and personality. One major difference between dragons is their coloring. Every dragon is covered head to tail in scales (aside from their neck and belly, which are instead made of a thick, cream colored hide).
Scale coloring is a major part of identifying dragons and what is expected of them. Every dragon is born with a certain color of scales, which nearly always stay the same throughout their lives (aside from the coloring brightening at adulthood and dulling at elderhood). These give every dragon a very striking, identifiable likeness.
The Good and The Bad are categories of behavioral patterns. These are lists of innate tendencies of each type of dragon manifesting itself in the form of common traits, good or bad. A dragon could have some traits from each category. We are all flawed, in some way.
It would be prudent for any adventurer or would-be dragonslayer to remember that the colors of dragons simply represent their tendencies. It is quite common for dragons to exhibit traits outside of their type. A prudent red and an honest green dragon aren’t unheard of.
Tumblr media
Red Dragons represent ambition and passion. They are the most common type of dragon and the most popular in most cultures. Red dragons will push themselves to excel in whatever they put their mind to. These dragons tend to encroach on the lands of others, determined to stretch their authority and power as far as they can. They are driven to amass as much wealth as possible while building the grandest lairs and gathering the largest armies. Good red dragons will become champions of war, lending their aid to noble causes and seeking out and slaying wicked dragons, keeping the lands under their reign safe. Evil red dragons will form sprawling lairs home to depraved minions, amass outrageous hoards, and fight to subdue all around them to expand their power further. Due to their relentless pride and ambition, they tend to get themselves noticed before they’re powerful enough to pose a major threat to the land.
Breath Type: Fire
The Good: Resolve, Determination, Passion, Diligence, Confidence, Courage, Energy
The Bad: Arrogance, Ruthlessness, Obsession, Greed, Restlessness, Foolhardiness, Shamelessness
Tumblr media
Blue Dragons (sometimes called Frost Dragons) represent calmness and stoicism. They are a common type of dragon. Blue dragons are often relaxed and forward. These dragons are typically content and accepting, the most likely to “go with the flow” as opposed to most dragons’ prideful defiance in the face of anything but exactly what they want. They also have a penchant for honesty, even when opposing others. They will not plot, instead plainly stating their intentions. Some see these traits as healthy acceptance of reality, while others would argue these traits manifest themselves as laziness and apathy. This is true, while many dragons take great care to make their lairs as presentable as possible, to awe any intruders or servants, blue dragons’ lairs are often bare-bones and messy, bones of their meals scattered about and passageways sparse. Good blue dragons often become slumbering giants, happy to see wanderers stumble into their abode and learning of the outside world from them, while evil blue dragons take their stoicism to another level, seemingly incapable of feeling pity for their prey. They are also rumored to have originated from the far North, in the lands of the wolfmen. Indeed, this is where they are most commonplace. Slaying a blue dragon is seen as one the greatest accomplishments a warrior could ever strive for among the wolfmen.
Breath Type: Frost
The Good: Contentness, Honesty, Calmness in a Crisis, Humility, Tranquility, Peacefulness
The Bad: Sloth, Coldness, Crudeness, Apathy, Aloofness, Indifference, Stunted Compassion, Arbitrariness
Tumblr media
Green Dragons represent nature and secrecy. They are one of the common types of dragon, especially common in Geralthin and the Pona Federation. These green beasts have a strong affinity to the wilds, far away from civilization and prying eyes. These dragons are typically the most subtle and cunning of the dragons. While many dragons may put themselves at risk when called cowards, or are willing take on other perils due to their pride, green dragons will accept looking like they are helpless, knowing full well it will be worth it to gain the upper hand...only when they are certain victory is assured will they gloat, laughing at their opponents for falling into their trap. They may feign injury or defeat, begging for mercy...only to tear their foes to shreds when they lower their guard. Green dragons tend to naturally tell lies or conceal information. It could take many, many years and an unbreakable relationship before a green dragon makes itself vulnerable to someone they truly trust. The magically proficient among them often focus on learning illusionary magic. Good green dragons tend to either live in harmony with nature or become informants for the forces of good, pretending to aid wicked or evil foes to learn their secrets. Evil green dragons are devious beasts that design elaborate death mazes and weave grand conspiracies among population centers. Whether they’re actually on your side or are secretly plotting against you, green dragons will swear up and down that they are your spymaster, and trusted confidential. Green dragons who DO actually see you as a dear friend and are actually on your side are some of the most loyal companions one could ever ask for. They will lie, cheat, steal and weave grand webs of intrigue, doing absolutely everything in their power to keep you ahead of your foes, and safe from any threats, external or internal. They may feign surrender or treachery, in actuality trying to give themselves the greatest possible chance of destroying your foes. By the time you can tell if their loyalty is genuine however, it’s already too late if their betrayal is for real.
Breath Type: Hallucinogenic
The Good: Wisdom, Confidentiality, Infiltration of Threats, Cunning, Secrecy, Concealment, Planning, Diligence
The Bad: Treachery, Deceit, Cowardice, Honorlessness, Lying, Thievery, Betrayal, Corruptness, "The Wild Card”
Tumblr media
Purple Dragons represent humor and talkativeness. The dragons are somewhat uncommon, though not terribly so. They are most common in the lands of the Koutu. The purple dragons mirror the birdfolk in many ways, being the most outgoing and merry of the dragons. An explorer who stumbles into a purple dragon’s den is unlucky, though not for the reasons many would think. If they aren’t subject to numerous traps meant to scare them, bizarre illusions, twisting mazes and kobold minions playing pranks on them, they will most certainly be staying a while. Purple dragons are infamous for sitting down with adventurers and talking for hours, sometimes days at a time. Their cravings for conversations are nearly insatiable, often spending their free time thinking up stories, riddles and conversation topics for the next wanderer. Anyone who resists this and tries to leave will either leave the dragon pouting and disappointed, or find themselves now forcibly restrained as the dragon continues speaking with them. Good purple dragons spend their time making friends and seeking out the smaller races frequently, while the evil among them will use their traps and tricks for more dastardly and deadly means, enjoying seeing their prey squirm. Stroking a purple dragon’s ego and complimenting them on their tricks and wit is the best way to make it through an encounter with them quickly and unscathed. Their breath attack has two uses. First, their magic breath blows globs and mists of poison, while they can also pump their prey full of deadly venom through biting. It’s often joked that purple dragon’s words are as biting and venomous as their breath.
Breath Type: Poison Toxin (Breath) or Venom Toxin (Biting)
The Good: Humor, Friendliness, Gregariousness, Wit, Silver Tongued, Extroversion, Cheerfulness
The Bad: Deviousness, Trickery, Black Humor, Deceit, Obsession
Tumblr media
White Dragons represent Life and Humility. These dragons are uncommon, and most numerous among the Pona Federation. White dragons are the physically weakest among the dragons, but are still deadly to the foolhardy and unprepared. These beasts tend to ally themselves with other dragons, either through mutual respect or vassalage, often desiring to be protected. They will support other dragons and minions in battle, staying back and healing the wounded. They respect power, and may pledge to aid those who beat them or their masters. Good white dragons become healers and helpers of the smaller races, saving the lives of countless sick and dying. Other, less honorable white dragons feel drawn to the powerful, thoughtlessly betraying their former friends and serving whoever is the strongest, out of either a “practical” desire to be protected by the mightiest or a simple instinct to follow the powerful.
Breath Type: Healing
The Good: Kindness, Humility, Benevolence, Altruism, Loyalty, Easygoing, Temperate
The Bad: Disingenuousness, Submissiveness, Treachery, Meekness, Weak-Willed
Tumblr media
Copper Dragons (Sometimes called Brown Dragons or Bronze Dragons) represent Freedom and Wanderlust. They are uncommon, found mostly in the deserts of the Abinsil Kingdom. Despite their similar location and origin, they are much unlike the lizardmen of the desert. Copper dragons’ hearts burn with the desire to explore, free from any shackles, literal or figurative. They loathe oppression and tyranny; this at least, they and the Reptilians can agree on. If there were any dragons that could be compared to the adventerers of other races, these would be it. They often travel far and wide, for little more than the desire to see new lands and people. Due to their nomadic nature, many of these dragons don’t even have lairs, all their dwellings temporary stops on their boundless journey. Good copper dragons become wayfarers, dropping in to help those in need and leaving before they can be rewarded, the mysterious stranger who’s chief concern is making a difference. Evil copper dragons see themselves as above all others; the world is their playground, to be used as they see fit. Their distortion breath, which causes those hit to wrap to random locations around the world is a reflection of their own fleeting nature.
Breath Type: Distortion
The Good: Freedom-loving, Curiosity, Bravery, Wonder, Joy, Friendliness, Independence
The Bad: Recklessness, Chaotic, Arbitrariness, Arrogance, Thoughtlessness, Listlessness, Commitment Issues
Tumblr media
Gold Dragons (Sometimes called Yellow Dragons) represent Order and Justice. These dragons are rare, being mainly from Southern Geralthin. These dragons are the lawmakers, the arbiters of the customs of their land. Gold dragons have a fixation on justice that influences most of their actions and decisions. They watch their territory closely, monitoring their minions and those passing through to ensure their laws are upheld. Gold dragons often come into conflict with the smaller races. Seeing their law as absolute they tend to enforce their laws on the unwilling while ignoring the customs of the land, drawing great ire from kings and counts alike. Good golden dragons try to at least show some respect towards the rights of the smaller races, trying to create a code of law as fair and just as possible while taking on the mantle of crusaders against chaos, striking at the lawless. Evil gold dragons may start off well intentioned before slipping into tyranny, or may simply have always been oppressors. They will use rhetoric like “You will thank me later”, and “This is for your own good”. All chafe under their harsh and merciless ways, yearning for freedom. As recorded by an old scribe: “A tyrant who thinks they are doing good will never cease oppressing you, for they are not driven by greed, but their own morals.” It is not unusual for Copper and Gold dragons to be locked in feuds, the avatars of law and chaos in bitter opposition to one another.
Breath Type: Lightning
The Good: Law, Order, Justice, Righteousness, Diligence, Majesty, Idealism
The Bad: Oppression, Mercilessness, Vengeance, Obsession, Fearmongering, Arrogance
Tumblr media
Black Dragons represent Power and Domination. These are one of the rare dragons, most coming from the deep wilds of Geralthin. These dragons are the most feared of all dragons. They are born with hearts full of malice, unable to feel or understand compassion. The black dragons become gleeful and giddy at seeing suffering, intentionally causing as much pain and terror as possible to elicit desperate responses from their prey. Their tormenting isn’t limited to physical pain and killing others. The black dragons have an almost bizarre obsession with crushing the spirits of others, using mental and physical torture to break the wills of whoever they so choose. Sometimes these are unfortunate members of the smaller races, while sometimes they go after other dragons, eager to assert themselves as masters of dragonkind. The black dragons are masters of torture, so adventerers are advised to find any means of escape, or, if they can’t, force the dragon to kill them outright, for no one should be forced to go through one of their “Spiritbreaker” sessions. They will twist the physical form of their victims into lowly beasts and creatures before attacking their minds, making them lose all sense of self. They are loathed across all cultures, and are hunted by sorcerers and dragonslayers relentlessly, always in groups and with escape plans ready. Good black dragons are quite rare, often quiet and solitary. Those that do good constantly fight to resist their foul impulses, taking a kind of cold approach to doing good. They cannot understand the feelings of kindness and mercy, but adhere to altruism, doing good anyway because they know it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes they may be born with the same feelings of compassion other creatures are, but this is rare. Gira is one of few examples of this. Evil black dragons seek to cause pain and misery for the sake of it, and feel great pleasure at bending others to their will. They typically live short, nasty lives, taking their malice too far and enraging enough people to send a small army to destroy them. The more reserved and cunning among them stay in the shadows, plucking away lone travelers to satiate their desire to torture, careful not to cause too much of a stir.
Breath Type: Death (Necrosis)
The Good: Power, Might, Confidence
The Bad: Cruelty, Malevolence, Heartlessness, Domination of Others, Pride, Shamelessness
Bonus Types: Extremely Rare Dragons
Tumblr media
Outremer Dragons are spoken of in legends. These dragons are native to a land far away, said to be across the ocean to the far east. The Outremer are supposedly bizarre and alien, wingless, yet with the ability of flight. They have strange features and long wisps of fur on their faces. They are typically said to be wise and protective of the smaller races. Due to their nonexistence in Deaco, they are thought to not be real, simple beasts in children’s stories. They are in fact real, native to an island far off the coast of Deaco. There they sit, keeping the island under their watchful eye, ready to protect the strange humanoids living there. Almost none from Deaco have ever seen one, and likely never will. They are known for turning villains into animals in the stories...
Breath Type: Polymorphing
Tumblr media
Sea Dragons are elusive creatures found in the deep waters of lakes and oceans. Due to their lack of wings or magic, some argue they aren’t dragons, instead calling them “Sea Drakes” or “Sea Serpents”. The general consensus however is that they are related in some way to the typical dragons. They can surface and go on land, but their bodies are designed for seafaring, becoming slow and clumsy when moving on land. Because of this, any time they leave the water is generally relegated to short stays on beaches. Sea Dragons are thought to be feral unlike normal dragons, unable to speak and acting on instinct. Sorcerers that have learned to speak with animals though know the truth. They ARE intelligent, they simply lack the ability to speak. They are diverse in attitude, some playfully surfacing and spitting water at people playing on the beach, while some savagely kill and eat all they see. There are just as many tales of hopelessly lost ships being led to safety by sea dragons as there are tales of sea dragons being behind a missing fleet. Sea dragon’s breath attack is notable for being non-magical; their bodies simply pressurize the water they swallow, and they then spit it out in a jet that can tear through armor and hulls with ease. They can weaken it beforehand though, which they do when they’re playing around, the water becoming harmless at their whims.
Breath Type: Pressurized Water (Mundane)
That’s all for now! I hope you enjoyed learning more about the dragons of the world of Deaco!

Is Africa going backwards on democracy?

Image caption The recent election in DR Congo was widely condemned
More and more elections are being held in Africa however analysts dismiss many as being “lawful but illegitimate”. Although studies show that a majority of Africans still want to live in democracies, an increasing number are looking to alternative, autocratic models, reports the BBC’s Dickens Olewe.
In the last three years African countries have registered an overall decline in the quality of political participation and rule of law, analysts say.
“Today there are almost the same number of defective democracies (15) as there are hard-line autocracies (16), among the continent’s 54 states,” Nic Cheeseman, Professor of Democracy at Birmingham University, concludes from his analysis of the last three years.
Nigeria, which will hold its postponed election on Saturday, is among those listed as a “defective democracy”.
Despite the challenges, at least 68% of Africans prefer to live in open and freer societies, according to a recent poll conducted by Afrobarometer in 34 countries.
That figure, however, is down slightly from 72% in 2012.

Image caption Music legend Salif Keita says democracy has failed in Africa
“[Africans] just want more dividends from democracy. They want less corruption, more transparency, less impunity, more economic opportunity,” Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi, executive director and co-founder of Afrobarometer, says.
“It is in the interest of external partners to push for and to support this quest – lest non-liberal democratic models of national development become more alluring,” he adds.
Malian music legend Salif Keita has, however, given up on democracy. He recently suggested that the continent needs a “benevolent dictator like China”.
“To have a democracy, people have to understand democracy, and how can people understand when 85% of the people in the country cannot read or write,” he asks.
‘I love Trump’
The US, which has traditionally been a major influence in promoting democracy in Africa, has had a seemingly hands-off approach since President Donald Trump came to office in 2017.
When his administration’s long-delayed policy on Africa was finally unveiled at the close of 2018, many observers of the continent were quick to point out that it did not include the favoured American staples: promotion of democracy, free and fair elections, political and civil rights.
These elements were key policy components of previous administrations.

Image caption Donald Trump’s Africa policy does not include plans to champion democracy
The policy instead focused on the war on terror, slashing spending on the United Nations missions on the continent, and lambasting the activities of Russia and China.
“If [African leaders] see leaders like Trump. who seems very happy to shake hands with autocrats, it gives them the signal that they can manipulate elections and not face consequences,” Mr Cheeseman says.
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, who plans to run for a sixth term in 2021, has been notably effusive in his praise of the American president, once declaring, “I love Trump,” who he described as the best president the US has had.

In 1991, Benin and Zambia became the first former one-party states to hold multiparty elections in Africa – which were won by opposition parties – kicking off a decade of democratic gains on the continent after the end of the Cold War.
Almost 30 years later, the West African country is rated as one of just nine “free” countries out of the 54 on the continent, while Zambia has regressed to being “partly free”, according to the 2019 Freedom House report.
The number of free countries remains the same as a decade ago.
Eight countries – Senegal, Ghana, Benin, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho and Mauritius – have maintained their position, with Tunisia changing places with Mali, which is now ranked as “partly free”.
Angola and Ethiopia, though listed as “not free”, are noted to have made “surprising improvements” after new leaders came into office in the past year.
Technology and elections
Political transition through regular elections is among the criteria for judging whether a country is a democracy or not.
Some countries have even adopted technology to make the polls credible and accountable but in most cases this has done little to dispel concerns.
“Many African countries are trying to use technology to manufacture trust in elections and that’s not going to work,” Nanjala Nyabola, author of Digital Democracy, Analogue Politics, told the BBC.
She gave the example of Kenya’s 2017 elections which, despite the use of biometric technology to verify voters as way of eliminating ghost voters and ballot stuffing, and also using an electronic results transmission system, failed to win voters’ confidence.
“Another problem is that we have countries conducting elections that are legal but are illegitimate,” Godwin Murunga from the University of Nairobi, told the BBC.
“There’s this notion that democracy in Africa should have different standards,” he adds, pointing at the international community’s acceptance of the recent elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Image caption Several countries have been using technology in elections to make them credible
Former DR Congo President Joseph Kabila oversaw one of the most controversial elections on the continent. An outright fraud, some have called it.
Martin Fayulu, who came second in the presidential election, still disputes Felix Tshisekedi’s victory.
“It was a coup d’etat,” he told the BBC.
He says, with the backing of the influential Catholic Church – which said it had 40,00 electoral monitors – that he won the election.
Mr Fayulu has since appealed to the African Union to set up a commission to recount the votes cast on 30 December or call for a repeat election in six months.
“We have to respect the will of the Congolese. Democracy has to be the same everywhere,” he told the BBC.
Rwandan model?
His call is backed by Sudanese billionaire Mo Ibrahim, founder of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance, and Alan Doss, president of the Kofi Annan Foundation, who in a joint article said that Mr Tshisekedi’s election lacks genuine legitimacy and risks repeated challenges to its authority.
They also accused the international community, including the US, of failing the Congolese people in the “name of stability” of the country and called on the publication of detailed results for both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
This year, some 15 countries are set to hold elections at different levels, but the credibility of these polls is likely to again conjure up questions about whether democracy is working for Africa.

Image caption People across Africa are prepared to queue for hours in order to cast their votes
The US policy on Africa is a significant influence but it is not a major factor in the decline of democracy on the continent, Jon Temin, Director of Africa at Freedom House, told the BBC.
The organisation’s latest report says democracy globally has been on the decline for the last 13 years. Some African countries have contributed to the negative slide.
Democracy cynics like Salif Keita propose a benevolent autocracy as an alternative.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has been used as an example of a leader who is running an effective and efficient government that is unencumbered by democratic structures, which can be slow and rigid.
Image copyright AFP
Image caption President Kagame has been hailed as an example of a leader who has managed to achieve economic development without being unencumbered by democracy
However, extending the control of the governing party, as in Rwanda, over a country’s economy is more likely to increase corruption and waste than to spur economic activity, Mr Cheeseman says.
“What this means is that if other countries on the continent try to implement the Rwandan model, the chances are that they will experience all of its costs while realising few of its benefits,” he adds.
Ghanaian democracy activist Nansata Yakubu says that despite setbacks in countries like DR Congo, the work of defending democracy should not stop with elections.
“We have to improve the voting system and continue engaging the public,” she told the BBC.
The focus should be on giving more and more people a say over more and more issues – instead of comparing how each country’s governance structure measures against Western democracies, says Steven Friedman, Professor of Political Studies in University of Johannesburg.
The good news is that support for democracy remains high, the worry is that this is not guaranteed unless Africans start enjoying the dividends of living in free and open societies, and participating in elections that are credible and accountable.

Cheon Il Guk vs. "the "New Covenant"
Don recently responded to my call for reviving "Clissical Liberalism" with the following:
Robert, there is nothing “Classical” to go back to now in the 21st century. You are suggesting that we revive something from the past, a bygone era. There are countless young people in the world now who have been brought up in the age of very high-tech. Just think of how many toddlers you have seen, Robert, that know how to use a Tablet device, Idea Pad, or even a Smart Phone. How are these young people being “wired” for developing an ideology/philosophy for the future.
Of course I disagree with the asssertion that there is nothing "classical" to return to.  Classical Liberalism was a movement to "liberate" the individual from the heavy hand of government.  This philosophy played a large role oin the American founding and I see a possibility of it playing a role in the 21st Century.  I am going to put aside the merging of thte digital and the human for a moment, which is more properly referred to as "transhumanism," as a bit of unrealistic fantasy.  I think that the role of "Artificial Intelligence" is extremely blown out of proportion, because we really do not understand what intelligence is.  This was the topic of a prensentaion  I gave at a conference of science, techomolgy and spirituality where I challanged the modern, mechanistic view of intelligence with a view that synthesized ancient philosophy and religion, with modern math and science.  In short, a merger of the classical view with th modern.  Now, I would like to follow un on another possible point of convergence:
They often favour the deregulation of business, and drastically scaled-back government. They believe that people should stop deluding themselves that economic and technological progress. can be controlled.
...
Accelerationism, therefore, goes against conservatism, traditional socialism, social democracy, environmentalism, protectionism, populism, nationalism, localism and all the other ideologies that have sought to moderate or reverse the already hugely disruptive, seemingly runaway pace of change in the modern world.
These ideologies that have  sought to "reverse the already hugely disruptive, seemingly runaway pace of change in the modern world," have resulted in totalitarian movements relying on centrlalized  governmental authority to control "economic and technological progress."  The delusion that such forces can be controlled by centralized political authority, was the central premise of totalitarian ideologies and was referred to as "The Fatal Conceit" by Classical Liberal scholars.  The trick is to anchor oppisition to such conceit in timeless moral and spititual principles rooted in the diginity of the human person.  In doings so, I would like to hold up the political application of the Biblicaal notion of a "New Covenant."  Here is an article that does so https://www.tparents.org/Library/Unification/Talks3/Maynard/Maynard-150116.pdf  This "New Covenant" approach to the rule of law, vs the rule of men was rooted in the ancient Jewish rejection of pagan absolute rule:
What happens to this notion if the ruler is not held to be divine, but merely a created being? That is the revolutionary concept introduced by the Judeo-Christian Biblical tradition with its insistence that human beings are created in the image of God. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27. This places ultimate sovereignty with a transcendent creator God and lays to rest any pretension of a person, or group of people to rule over others. In short, if we were all created “in the image” of a transcendent being who created as an act of free will, then we are all born to be free and no one is either born to rule or be ruled. Our founders considered this difference to be the dividing line between freedom and tyranny and sought to emulate the example of the early Israelites. Our Founders were not alone in seeing “the first illustrations” of the principles of liberty in the chosen people. In his famous essay “The History of Freedom in Antiquity”, British historian Lord Acton wrote:
The most certain test by which we judge whether a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities. Liberty, by this definition, is the essential condition and guardian of Religion; and it is in the history of the chosen People, accordingly, that the first illustrations of my subject are obtained.
The illustration he was referring to was the system of government that the Israelites set up in the wilderness as they fled Egypt and later in Canaan as they entered the Promised Land. The contrast between the principles of government that the Israelites lived under in Egypt and those they lived under in Canaan are so striking that the Exodus from Egypt and the entering into Canaan has long been seen as a prototype story of liberation that has inspired freedom seekers of all stripes. Not only did this model inspire the early American settlers in their leaving behind Europe, which they compared to Egypt, and entered into their own promised land of America, but it also inspired the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad. In fact, Harriet Tubman, who was a key figure in the Underground Railroad, earned the nickname “Mother Moses” because she led the slaves to freedom.
While there is some disagreement among historians over how badly the subjects of the Pharaoh were treated, and it is noted that the Israelites were among many groups of people who freely sought refuge in Egypt, they did depend on the Pharaoh’s benevolence. There was no principle that limited the Pharaoh’s authority and granted his subjects rights. Pharaoh’s authority was buttressed by a pagan religious system that saw him as some kind of god. In his book For Good and Evil: The Impact of Taxes o the Course of Civilization, historian and philosopher Charles Adams argues that the Egyptian empire collapsed when this religious belief failed. Here is what he had to say about that belief system:
Initially the pharaoh was god incarnate on the earth. The flooding of the Nile and the bounteous harvests were attributed to his divine powers. Even in the tribute territories, the rains that came were seen as the result of the pharaoh’s putting part of the Nile up in their sky. Religion was the most important sustaining force behind the pharaoh’s glory and power.
Such a belief system amounted to idolatry to the Israelites, who worshiped a transcendent creator God, who created humans in his image. These two belief systems were absolutely incompatible both in their conception of divine authority and human freedom.
It should come as no surprise then that they set up a political system under a completely different set of principles when they entered Canaan. According to
Lord Acton’s “The History of Freedom in Antiquity”, here is nature of the government they set up:
The government of the Israelites was a Federation, held together by no political authority, but by the unity of race and faith, and founded, not on physical force, but on a voluntary covenant. The principle of self-government was carried out not only in each tribe, but in every group of at least 120 families; and there was neither privilege of rank, nor inequality before the law. Monarchy was so alien to the primitive spirit of the community that it was resisted by Samuel in that momentous protestation and warning which all the kingdoms of Asia and many of the kingdoms of Europe have unceasingly confirmed.`
Here is the "New Covenant" culmination of such principles:
If that was not enough of a barrier to the exercise of a police force with the ability to coerce compliance with the rule of a sovereign, the Israelites were looking forward to a time where they would enter a “New Covenant”. In Jeremiah 31:33 God says the following to his people: “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
This is exactly what Christians believed Christ was establishing, which made them even more suspicious of the exercise of authority. Jesus himself reinforced this notion in John 7:53-8:11 when he was presented with a woman who was caught in adultery. In verse 8:5 he was reminded that: “Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?” He was being challenged as he had a reputation of being loose in enforcing the Law of Moses. He often strengthened the internal moral requirement, but relaxed the enforcement. After suggesting in verse 8:7 that “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”, her accusers vanished. In verse 8:10 he then asked her: “Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?”. His response to her answer in verse 8:11 is consistent with one who intends to establish a New Covenant where God will write his “law in their minds and write it on their hearts”: “She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” He was appealing to her conscience where the law was to be written in her heart, rather than resorting to external punishment.
This raises the question of whether the various Cheon Il Guk constitutions more resemble pagan totalitarian rule, or the New Convenant direct rule of God in the human heart?

10 Psychology Studies Every Lover Should Know
"Love does not comprise in looking at each other, but rather in searching externally together a similar way." ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
From the underlying snapshot of appreciation for developing old together, here is 10 brain research ponders that all sweethearts should know.
1. Experiencing passionate feelings for takes one-fifth of a moment
It takes a fifth-of-a-moment for the elation prompting chemicals to begin following up on the mind when you are taking a gander at that unique individual.
Cerebrum imaging investigations of adoration recommend that 12 unique zones of the mind are included.
When looking or considering a friend or family member, these regions discharge a mixed drink of neurotransmitters over the cerebrum, including oxytocin, dopamine, vasopressin, and adrenaline.
The cerebrum gets a comparable 'hit' from adoration as it does from a little dosage of cocaine.
2. Mind guide of adoration and want
The principal concentrate to take a gander at the neural contrast amongst adoration and sexual want finds momentous covers and particular contrasts.
The outcomes demonstrated that some strikingly comparable cerebrum systems were initiated by affection and sexual want.
The locales initiated were those engaged with feeling, inspiration and larger amount musings.
This brain science of adoration recommends that sexual want is something other than a fundamental feeling, yet includes objective coordinated inspiration and the enlistment of further developed musings.
Love is based over these circuits, with one key territory of contrast being in the striatum. This region of the cerebrum is commonly connected with the harmony amongst higher-and bring down level capacities.

He's took after couples crosswise over decades in numerous mental examinations to perceive what sorts of practices anticipate whether they would remain together.

The investigation's creator, Eli Finkel clarified:
"All in all, in the event that you need your marriage to enable you to accomplish self-articulation and self-awareness, it's critical to put adequate time and vitality in the marriage. In the event that you realize that the time and vitality aren't accessible, at that point it bodes well to modify your desires as needs be to limit dissatisfaction."
8. A straightforward exercise to spare a marriage
In the event that your relationship needs a little TLC, at that point there might be no compelling reason to go into therapy– viewing a couple of motion pictures together could do the trap.
Another three-year consider finds that separation rates were more than split by watching motion pictures about connections and examining them a short time later.
The investigation's lead creator, Ronald Rogge, stated:
"The outcomes recommend that married couples have a quite decent feeling of what they may do good and bad in their connections. Hence, you should not show them a mess of abilities to cut the separation rate.
You may very well need to motivate them to consider how they are as of now acting. What's more, for five films to give us an advantage more than three years– that is amazing."
9. The post-separate relationship
Indeed, even after separation, connections don't really end, particularly if there are youngsters.
An investigation of co-child rearing post-separate has discovered it can go one of five ways, the initial three of which are considered moderately utilitarian:
Disintegrated twosomes, where (ordinarily) the father vanishes.
Idealize buddies, where guardians keep on being closest companions.
Helpful partners, where couples proceed onward however stay on a decent balance with each other.
Furious partners, where the battling proceeds after the separation.
Red hot adversaries, where youngsters move toward becoming pawns in the battle and generally endure therefore.
10. It's the seemingly insignificant details
At long last, as we live in an exceptionally marketed world where we're urged to figure love can be purchased and sold, it merits recollecting that frequently it's the little things that can have any kind of effect.
A current overview on the brain research of adoration for more than 4,000 UK grown-ups found that basic demonstrations of benevolence are frequently valued the most.
Bringing your accomplice some tea in bed, putting the containers out or revealing to them they look great bare may all do significantly more than a case of chocolates or cluster of blooms (in spite of the fact that these won't hurt!).
Brain research of affection
As the German artist and writer Rainer Maria Rilke stated:
"Once the acknowledgment is acknowledged that even between the nearest people unending separations proceed with, an awesome living next to each other can develop, in the event that they prevail with regards to adoring the separation between them which makes it feasible for each to see the other entire against the sky."

8 Ways Spiritual Entrepreneurs Measure Success
Until you are fully aligned, you are not fully expressed.the Angel Lady Terrie Marie, D.Ms.Success means different things to many different people, from all walks of life. For some, it is about being able to live in peace and harmony with the land. For others it is having massive amounts of money at their fingertips.
For still others it is all about power and being powerful. Here are a few more ways success can and often is measured:
*status symbols in the form of luxurious homes and furnishings
*designer labels
*earning 6 and 6-figure incomes
*the number of people on a mailing list or Social Media followers
*being able to travel to exotic places
*climbing the corporate ladder*knowing one’s Life Purpose
*Best-Selling Authority
It could also be about being able to live in a country and in a manner of one’s choosing.
We are all gifted with free will, the gift of choice. For many people round the world, simply being able to choose is the ultimate form or measure of success.
When I ask my clients and students what success is for them, most have never truly thought about this, much less given serious below the surface consideration to what success is or what it looks and feels like.
So many people have been told that to be Spiritual is also about not wanting to have money except to cover their needs. It is an unwritten rule that to be Spiritual one must choose not to have anything in excess, especially money. Money is often seen as evil and makes people corrupt.
There is nothing that lowers one’s vibration more than to wonder and worry where the next client, job, opportunity or dollar is going to come from. A truth is, when you worry about how to make ends meet, all you think about is money … how much there is and worrying if you can pay the rent of put food on the table.
How, beautiful Soul, does lack feed your Soul or help you do what you came here to do?
It doesn’t.
Here’s part of what defines success for me
…… Being able to host the Success and Prosperity Mastery Interview Series, creating a platform for amazing, gifted and talented entrepreneurs from all walks of life expressing themselves and lessons learned along the way.
It also helps many others find the courage to find their own voice. Lessons, challenges and obstacles are part of the Journey Less Traveled … the way of the courageous in-Spirit requires us all to step out beyond everything we have come to know, trust and believe keeps us safe and insulated from doubt and fear.
The interview series also helps position me on the leading edge and as the ‘go to Angel Lady’ in the Spiritual Community. Even putting that into printed words, causes me to take several deep breaths, quieting Ego-chitter chatter attempting to call me out as vain and egotistical.
The more I choose to show-up, the more I can be of service, helping others along their Journey Less Traveled
.… Being able to set aside time each week to channel this book with the intention of reaching thousands upon thousands of women and men round this planet.
Each and every person, including you, has something special to offer with the rest of us. Most of us have shamed, taught or worse … bullied into remaining silent. Silence in this instance, is certain death for the sharing of your unique message with the world.
Let it be said yet again here and now … your voice and your message need to be heard more now than ever!
… Being able to take the time for personal retreats, to re-connect with my inner-intuitive self and re-charge my Spiritual energy from the inside out is paramount to continually up-leveling my inner-vibration to the next level and beyond.
Stepping away is one of the ways I give myself permission to be in the silence, connecting with Mother Earth and beloved Angels. Taking a break is essential for personal and Spiritual Growth and letting go.
.… Being able to step into faith is for me an incredible success milestone. I used to worry about how to pay bills and be able to invest in growing my business. Several months ago, September 2016, I received clear guidance during a Skype meeting with my webmaster. You see, I was thinking of opening an online Crystal Shoppe. The guidance was to specialize in one-of-a-kind pieces. Mind you, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show was 5 months away.
This also meant having a significant budget to invest in this venture I was clearly being guided to pursue. I love crystals and have a few hundred or so round my home, home office and in my meditation gardens. Six years had passed since I had been to the Tucson. I used to write articles about crystals teach Crystal Healing Classes and sell crystals and tumbled stones.
This is where stepping into faith comes in, because intuitively I knew what the budget was to be. It was a bit scary as I was re-building financially after experiencing major surgery just 6 weeks earlier.
My beloved Angels have always been there for me, even in the darkest of moments. It is in having and stepping into faith which allowed the financial budget to manifest AND have more in my bank accounts too! Following guidance, I was able to re-coup 2/3 of the initial investment, including travel expenses in just 2 days of the soft-opening of my Secrets from the Crystal Garden Shoppe.
What defines success for you beautiful Soul? Be willing to go below the surface of what the conscious mind tells you it should look and feel like for you. Perhaps success is earning 6-figures or multi-6-figures. Or landing a promotion, living in your dream home … maybe even teaching others how to connect with Angels.
What truly defines success for you? Be willing to go below the surface of what the conscious mind tells you. Perhaps success is earning 6-figures or multiple 6-figures a year. Or landing a promotion, living in your dream home … maybe even teaching others to connect to Angels.
Speaking of Angels, the first Angel to join us along this journey of Becoming a Mover and Shaker of Your Reality, is one of my longtime Angel Companions, Melchizedek. This powerful Angel continually helps me step out beyond what is commonly referred to as ‘the comfort zone.’ He helps me find the courage to follow the path as it is revealed to me.
No matter what your purpose or path is, it’s all about repeatedly stepping out beyond everything you have ever known and gotten used to doing, saying and becoming. Sometimes Melchizedek’s energy is or feels brutal in his frank-no-nonsense messages and guidance. At other times, his energy is subtle, like a benevolent big brother keeping watch … you know … just in case there’s a ‘stumble’ or unforeseen obstacle. This is when, if you have been heeding guidance given you’re given a hand-up to see the bigger vision that is waiting for you.
Here are a few of the many ways Melchizedek helps you, beautiful Soul
…… protect you from stumbling and getting discouraged on the path that’s in front of you
… make the right and best decisions for you, your business and your Spiritual Path
… guides you to the right people to help and support you as the next steps are revealed
Melchizedek is one of the most powerful Angels. He is also known as the Angel Prince of Peace. He is the Angel of Spiritual Growth and Expansion. He also specializes in mentoring Spiritual Entrepreneurs to become more of who they are deep within. In order to grow and expand Spiritually, one of two ‘states of being’ need to occur …
#1: A great sense of peace flowing through you as if there is nothing and no-one external to you that can possible disrupt or distract you from your path. It’s a feeling that is best described as floating in trust and faith. It is in the silence, you prepare to receive guidance, messages and confirmation about a plan of action you are about to put into motion.
#2: Descending into a state of great upheaval like being laid-off or discovering and coming face-to-face with beliefs that no longer serve you or your highest and best good on any level. This can feel like everything is unraveling or spiraling out of control right before your eyes and there doesn’t’ seem to be anything you can do about it.
No matter which ‘state of being’ — peace or upheaval — you are experiencing, Melchizedek will help you navigate the seemingly treacherous energies of transition and ultimate transformation.
This magnificent Angel will help make decisions from a space within you laced with unconditional love and compassion. He will most definitely help you start, grow or expand your business.
You need only ask for his help to discern the difference between inner-intuitive guidance and conscious-mind Ego-chitter chatter. Once you have ‘asked,’ be open to receive and trust what is being given to you. If you’re unsure if what you’re getting is really from Melchizedek — ask — ask for confirmation. It’s better to ask for clarification and confirmation than to assume what you’re getting is from your human-self and disregard it as unworthy of your attention!

Stalin and the Chicken
Lessons in Brutal Capitalism from a Communist In the late summer of 1934 Russia was in the midst of a period of extreme upheaval and change known as the purges. Under the guise of progress and modernization the self promoted leader of the communist party, Joseph Stalin, was systematically killing millions of his own people. Those whom he did not kill he left broken and scared, striped of their lands, possessions, food, and freedom. Few outside of Russia seemed aware or concerned about what he was doing. State news reports at the time touted the dramatic evolution of such a large and backward country into a modern industrial society. The massive government work projects moved mountains and changed the course of rivers, industrial factories began to produce a limitless supply of modern goods, and endless oceans of wheat grew upon the arid farm land of the western step under the direction of authoritative state owned collectives. Stalin himself was lifted up as the model of a strong leader. Every where he went there where large crowds cheering him as he struck impressive and stoic poses for the media. Numerous events were staged to demonstrate the triumph of communism over poverty, ignorance, and corruption and to portray Stalin as the firm benevolent father. At one such event a small group of state and visiting western media were gathered to document Stalin as a man of the people. He was to tour a local farm, interact with the workers, and answer questions from the press. All had gone as planned. The farm was perfectly staged for pictures. The workers were handpicked and prepared for their performance. Stalin’s presence was undeniable as he answered every one of the prescribed questions given to the media. Stalin walked casually through the barnyard answering questions and spreading grain to a group of chickens. “Yes, domestic agricultural output has increased by four hundred percent since we nationalized agricultural production.” answered Stalin. “Through the implementation of modern farming methods and state control there is more grain, more cabbage, and more carrots.” He continued, “Even these chickens have increased egg production” He half joked. The media and his aides nodded and smiled in agreement. Everything was wonderful in Russia. Everyone agreed and that’s all there was to know. That is until one typically skeptical American journalist dared to ask an unprepared question; an honest and informed question. “Mister Premier,” the journalist said “How long do you think you can keep up this charade? ” To which there was no reply. Stalin just continued spreading grain. The journalist asked again, “What makes you think you can starve and torture and kill your people and they won’t rise up against you?” The local media stood dumbstruck with fear and his aides in a panic attempted to shuffle off the question and the journalist. Stalin motioned for them to stop and for the cameras to be put away. He then reached down and picked up one of the chickens and held it tight under his arm so it could not move. Stalin then continued in reply to the journalist’s question as calm and as confident as before. He said, “We have more grain because we have nationalized farming and so we can sell the grain for capital in order to build factories to produce the things the people need.” As he spoke he began to rip the feathers off the chickens back in great handfuls. He continued, “The people have need of many things that we are now giving them.” The poor bird squawked and screeched in agony. Stalin’s grasp tightened. His iron grip held the bird firm as he calmly turned to the journalist and spoke. “It is a testament to the ability of man in this modern age that through the state we have overcome the individual weaknesses of greed and selfishness that have kept us from solving our problems.” The journalist could hardly speak. He stared in horror as Stalin savaged the chicken. The bird nearly limp, convulsed slightly as Stalin placed it back on the ground. It staggered clumsily away, unlikely to have been able to process what was just done to it. A feeling of disgust covered over by fear was palpable upon the barnyard. Stalin reached into his pocket for a handful of grain and continued on as before to feed the chickens who flocked around him. The journalist stammer, “What… Why…?” Stalin continued in response, “We are solving these problems.” Seemingly oblivious to the journalist’s questions. He was remarkably unaffected by his own actions or the journalist’s response to it. He said, “In Russia, as it should be in all the world, from each according to his abilities and too each according to his need.” Stalin, identifying the wounded chicken he had just damaged creeping back toward the edge of the flock to peck at the bits of grain remaining on the ground, reached again into his jacket pocket and pulled out a fresh handful of grain. He knelt down a bit and held out his hand toward the injured animal. The bird looked for a moment, cocked its head to the side a bit, and then timidly step toward Stalin. In a moment, it was eating the food right out of the hand that minutes before had torn the feathers right off it’s back. Stalin dropped the remaining grain on the ground stood and turned toward the journalist. Did that answer your question, he said. The journalist hesitated, locked in a momentary state of emotional and mental chaos. He responded, “Yes sir, thank you.” as the full impact of the situation became clear in his mind. The Point: The point is there is no point. People do things because they can. Both good and bad. This is a difficult concept to understand and even more difficult thing to accept without generally destroying most people’s basic understanding of the world. Our interaction with the world is based on perception and perception is the act of drawing internal conclusions based upon external stimuli. We take what is on the outside bounce it off of what is on the inside and try to figure out how they relate. This is why people can have widely varied opinions. What is on the inside is never exactly the same. The problem is that most people tend to think that everyone else thinks the same as they do. If you have ever heard the expression, “think out of the box”, this is what that is talking about. The bigger problem is that in general, we do all think the same or at least in a similar enough manner to get by. As much as we are different we are the same grouped along varied trains of thoughts. There are liberals and conservatives, aggressives and passives, intellectuals and physicals all gravitated together in sub categories within the general human experience. So when an abnormality presents itself, such as a serial killer, we don’t know how deal with it. They are outside of our general understanding. When confronted with things outside of our individual and general experience we waste precious time trying to explain it in a way that reconciles with our understanding or perception. The result is that when you are confronted with this. The best thing to do is to simply identify the situation and then determine what response is in your best interest. Do not waste time trying to figure out why, you can do that at a later time. Trying to understand often leads to anger, confusion, frustration, and delay. All of which can impair your ability to act or act wisely. The Lesson to Learn: Jee’s just re-read the story. The lessons to learn from this story about human nature, business, and social interaction are near endless. OK, here is an example of a lesson about human nature. This story illustrates both of the far sides of the human experience. Man is corrupt anyone who tells you differently is likely attempting to delude themselves in order to deal with the world in a manner that they can handle. By pretending that the world and people are good and just need a chance to do what is right they feel safer. But man and the world are neither good nor safe and by recognizing this you can take better actions to protect yourself, those you are responsible for, and your stuff. It is easy to see how Stalin was corrupt always dominating, control, and ruling by fear. The image of him as an aggressor brutalizing the poor weak bird is a caricature of the strong over the weak. This is an obvious example but given the choice, I would choose the obvious evil over the hidden. I can fight it or at least avoid it. You can’t avoid what you can’t see. Besides the very principle of strong over the weak is the basis of survival and for the non religious reader who denies the Biblical account of the fall and the corrupt (sin) nature of man it is also the basis of the Darwinian model of evolution. Strong over the weak for the purpose of survival via propagation of dominant traits. So don’t get upset when a bum beats the crap out of you in an alley because you think it is wrong to carry a gun. The less obvious corruption is that on the opposite side of the pool from Stalin, the chicken is just as corrupt. It shows no moral courage, no strength of character taking hand outs and charity. It demonstrates no advanced thought or ingenuity in the pursuit of its subsistence. It puts forth no real defense to the aggression forced upon it and having been abused it does not rise to a higher status of purpose with the knowledge and understanding gained by its experience. It simply comes back for more… it is meat. It is fodder for the energies of those who take action. It is the potential corruption of ---- that lies at the shallow end of the pool. It is the evil that exists and we don’t see it as evil for pity’s sake. But in being a victim it exists as a temptation to the strong like a glass of whiskey is a temptation to a recovering alcoholic. And what about everything in between these two extremes? Think of the state media and Stalin’s handlers, or the farm workers, or even the journalist; all were complacent in the situation and the system. Each singly looked out for themselves in order to get by. Is Stalin any worse then anyone else in this story, well yes, but he is a shark and a shark is a shark and a chicken is a chicken and if a chicken falls into the shark tank can anyone blame the shark for eating it. Stay away from the tank, if you are a chicken. If you’re not a chicken then take your chances as you see fit but don’t expect us to cry for you if you jump into the tank and end up bloody. The Short Lesson: People are bad and will hurt you to get what they want. People are weak and stupid and will keep coming back to harmful situations if they don’t learn. The Brutal Truth: There are bad people out there and I mean really bad; evil. There are a lot more of them then you think and they look just like you and me. They can and will hurt you. They will hurt you financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically. It does not matter why but most will do it as a simple unconscious exercise of a choice between them or you. Then there are others who will hurt you on purpose because they don’t like you or they feel threatened by you. And finally some will hurt you just because they can.

Story excerpt from Global Research:
Ian Sinclair Global Research, February 08, 2017
The New Arab 6 February 2017
Discussing western reporting of the Syrian war, veteran Middle East correspondent Patrick Cockburn recently noted ”fabricated news and one-sided reporting have taken over the news agenda to a degree probably not seen since the First World War”.
Professor Piers Robinson, Chair in Politics, Society and Political Journalism at the University of Sheffield, concurs, arguing
“We must now seriously entertain the possibility that the war in Syria has involved similar, if not greater, levels of manipulation and propaganda than that which occurred in the case of the 2003 Iraq War”.
An incredibly complex and confusing conflict with hundreds of opposition groups and multiple external actors often keen to hide many of their actions, how can journalists and the public get an accurate understanding of what is happening in Syria?
As governments routinely use their public statements to deceive the public, traditionally leaked government documents have been seen as the gold standard of journalistic sources - a unique opportunity to see what those in power are really thinking and doing behind closed doors.
“Policy-makers are usually frank about their real goals in the secret record”, notes British historian Mark Curtis in his book Unpeople: Britain’s Secret Human Rights Abuses.
When it comes to Syria there have been a number of US government documents leaked about US policy in the region. However, though these disclosures were reported by the media at the time, they have been quickly forgotten and have not contributed to the dominant narrative that has built up about the conflict.
As Professor Peter Kuznick noted about the American history he highlighted in The Untold History of the United States documentary series he co-wrote with director Oliver Stone, “the truth is that many of our ‘secrets’ have been hidden on the front page of The New York Times.”
For example, liberal journalists and commentators have repeatedly stated the US has, as Paul Mason wrote in the Guardian last year, “stood aloof from the Syrian conflict”. The leaked audio recording of a meeting between President Obama’s second Secretary of State John Kerry, and Syrian opposition figures last year shows the opposite to be true.
Challenged about the level of US support to the insurgency, Kerry turns to his aide and says: “I think we’ve been putting an extraordinary amount of arms in, haven’t we?” The aide agrees, noting “the armed groups in Syria get a lot of support”.
Amazingly, before noting the US had sent an “extraordinary amount of arms” to the rebels, Kerry tells the activists “we can always throw a lot of weapons in but I don’t think they are going to be good for you” because “everyone ups the ante” leading to “you all [getting] destroyed”.
This explanation of the logic of escalation is repeated later in the meeting by Kerry’s aide, who notes “when you pump more weapons into a situation like Syria it doesn’t end well for Syrians because there is always somebody else willing to pump more weapons in for the other side”.
A classified 2012 Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report, published by the right-wing watchdog Judicial Watch, provides important context to Kerry’s remarks. In the heavily redacted document the DIA - the intelligence arm of the US Department of Defense - notes “the Salafist, the Muslim Brotherhood, and AQI (al-Qaida in Iraq) are the major forces driving the insurgency in Syria” and “The West, Gulf countries and Turkey support the opposition”.
Speaking at a 2013 Jewish United Fund Advance & Major Gifts Dinner - the transcript of which was published by Wikileaks - former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed that US ally Saudi Arabia “and others are shipping large amounts of weapons – and pretty indiscriminately – not at all targeted toward the people that we think would be the more moderate, least likely, to cause problems in the future”.
It gets worse. Discussing the crisis, the DIA report notes “There is the possibility of [the opposition] establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist Principality in Eastern Syria… and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime.”
This appalling revelation was seemingly confirmed by General Michael T Flynn, the Director of the DIA from 2012-14 (and now National Security Advisor to President Trump), in a 2015 interview with Al-Jazeera’s Mehdi Hasan - and also, it seems, by Kerry when he told the Syrian activists:
“The reason Russia came in [to the conflict] is because ISIL [the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] was getting stronger. Daesh [another name for ISIL] was threatening the possibility of going to Damascus and so forth… And we know that this was growing. We were watching. We saw that Daesh was growing in strength. And we thought Assad was threatened. We thought, however, we could probably manage - you know, that Assad might then negotiate, but instead of negotiating he got Putin to support him.”
In summary, the leaked information wholly contradicts the popular picture of western benevolent intentions let down by President Obama’s ineffective leadership and inaction.
Tumblr media
Instead the evidence shows the US has been sending an “extraordinary amount” of weapons to the armed insurgents in Syria in the full knowledge that Salafists, the Muslim Brotherhood, and al-Qaeda in Iraq were the “major forces” driving the insurgency. They did this understanding that sending in weapons would escalate the fighting and not “end well for Syrians”.
Furthermore, the US has long known that its regional ally Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have been supporting extremists in Syria. And, most shocking of all if true, both Kerry and the DIA report seem to show the US allowed forerunners to IS to expand and threaten the Syrian government as this corresponded with the US’s geo-strategic objectives.
More broadly, by highlighting how the US welcomed the growth of IS in Syria, the leaks fatally undermine the entire rationale of the “War on Terror” the West has supposedly been fighting since 2001. These are, in short, bombshells that should be front page news, with lengthy investigative follow ups and hundreds of op-eds outraged at the lies and hypocrisy of western governments.
Instead, the disclosures have disappeared down the memory hole, with the huge gap between the importance of the revelations and the lack of coverage indicating a frighteningly efficient propaganda system.
It is worth noting however, that as an observer and newsreader - rather than seasoned expert - there may well be important context or information of which I am unaware, which provides a different take on the leaked material. This would lessen its importance and, therefore, justify the media having largely ignored it.
Of course, the best way of confirming the accuracy and importance of the leaks is for the media to do its job and thoroughly investigate the disclosures, to devote significant resources and manpower to the story, and to ask awkward and searching questions of established power.
I’m not holding my breath.
