You mentioning the DD 2 steam sale reminds me that despite the fact I bought the game early access, they expect people to buy it AGAIN if they want it on Steam. I can't put to words why it makes me so upset, I just want the fucking Steam icons!! And to not spend another $40 for them!!
hullo hullo!
thank you for the ask and sharing in my pain. and sorry for such a late reply, my inbox is a mess and I feel like i don't do it justice when people are trying to reach to me... i'm very sorry, I'll do my best to do better
to be honest, i'm kinda on the fence with all this 'exclusive early access'. especially with the DLC announced. they made people buy the game, and now will try to sell characters separately. don't get me wrong - this is an amazing monetary model... if you're the seller. have you noticed their wording in their answer to the questions about future DLCs?
Tumblr media
translated from polite talk: If this crusader DLC is lucrative, we will make more DLCs with heroes you actually want, so if you wanna see the one you are actually interested, prepare to pay up! this feels almost like holding other heroes hostage so to speak - get enough cash to get previous ones or the one you actually want won't see the light of the day.
and i mean... this just reminds me so, so much of EA or Total War, you know? it sure is lucrative for them, people are dying to see their favs in gorgeous 3D (if they don't treat them like poor Damian over there but i digress...), and play with them in new maps against new bosses... i just dunno if i can be bothered to cough up 10$ or however much they'd want for each pair of them, you know? if we count all of the missing heroes and if they'll continue Crus' model (aka 1 oldie and 1 newcomer per DLC), DD2 becomes almost scarily expencive. especially where i am now.
honestly, with the amount of shit around me, i almost stopped monitoring the situation, but i am curious about the price they'll put on Rey fans to have him back (the achievements for Rey and Dis are just grinding the boot at this point imo), and how this all will be received. we'll have to wait an see, i guess.
but i'm scared that people will be happy and they will cough up that money, and RH will follow this monetization path, follow? not meaningful DLCs with mechanics like Farmstead or Crimson Court, but hero packs. and i am genuinely not sure what to feel about it. sure i'm happy Rey gets to be in DD2 but... shouldn't he be there by default? especially if they add achievements for him, Dis and the Usual Suspects. dunno. i don't want to be too negative or sound like a tin foil conspirator, but it almost feels like a planned idea? see if people want their old characters back, and then put a price tag on nostalgia and attachments and see if it will work.

I've been playing the first dragon's dogma game for the first time lately, and honestly I'm addicted. It's been sitting in my steam library for a while, but with dd2 out, I decided to try it out and oh my god why didn't I start playing sooner. I'm only like level 24, and I'm not that far into the story at all, but I was surprised by how fun it is to play. Can't wait to finish and then go buy dd2

Hhmm, if you like talking about your Robin and Tardif, pls don't hold back! What do they like about each other? What do they dislike in one another? What is their dynamic, which roles get filled by who? Will they stick together? Are there any crisises or huge arguments between the two? Maybe I'm negative, buut I personally find the abundance of pure love/sympathy-at-first-sight-till-the-grave scenario representations a bit frustrating and unrealistic as in real life that's a minority, right?
Yea I really do like talking about them :'''') been thinking of commissioning someone to draw them for me as of late bc school's really shredding me a new one it's not cute 😭😭😭😭😭😭 it makes me really happy to know that there's interest in them that's not just me, they're my everything my sugar candy apples :'D You'll have to pardon me if my descriptive skill is not entirely up to par today, been doing homework all day and now I'm gettin reddy for beddy. Join me, dear traveller, in the read more..... (again, minor DD2 spoilies)
Tumblr media
Now what they like in one another: abridged, Robin really loves how Tardif makes him feel very human. He likes that Tardif comes from and to him represents a normal, human world he never got to experience; life and joy and flowers and fields, marketplaces and inns, travelling by river. To Robin, Tardif is proof that a normal (as normal as it gets with DD but bear with me) life is possible and that it's not out of his reach.
Tardif likes that Robin notices the beauty in everything about the world that a lifetime of looking out for himself has blinded him to. And despite everything he's gone through, Robin is still annoyingly hopeful, patient, kind, everything that he didn't know was possible in a man anymore, no less nobility. He hated it all at first, hated it violently, but against his better judgement it grew on him :)
This kiiiinda ties in with what they dislike about one another, but I think one of the more major crises that happens between them is that Tardif repeatedly does NOT let Robin engage in any sort of violence once they start to develop feelings for one another, a reckless act of way too much protectiveness on Tardif's end. Basically the moment he notices he's catching feelings he doesn't really know how to reel it all back in after spilling. This prompts Robin to get really angry at him, obvs, because he feels like he's being treated like a child or fragile glass, a feeling which he despises. They figure it out eventually tho, lol. Tardif also hates how self-sacrificial Robin can be, regularly martyring himself because he thinks he deserves it for the crimes of his family. Tardif doesn't hate ROBIN for it, but he hates that he feels that way and that someone ultimately undeserving of suffering has to go through that when so many others who actually do deserve it live cushy lives.
In regards to them sticking together, that was the plan. Tardif promising to take Robin away from the Hamlet once everything is over and setting up a bakery somewhere nice... something he doesn't know if he can truly do after everything, but something he wants to try for the sake of someone else, for once, as he's long learned that Robin is the only exception to all of his lifelong rules. But, as per DD2, that may not have worked out, and I'm still waiting on some info before getting to work on that ;) a tragic divorce arc (literally, bc they got Actually Married in DD1) where "Robin has ulterior motives of tracking down his husband during the apocalypse" might be in the works, tho 👀
I can't lie and say I'm Not a fan of pure love kind of scenarios, I'm a romantic at heart and I like to see all sorts of different types of relationships play out. But you're right, for my dark dungeon, I like to see some drama more >:) These two can get a little bit codependent and fucked up, and be so very selfish and possessive, but that's what makes it juicy hehe

I am beyond excited for DD2, but at the same time I can't express just how disappointed I am in Capcom. The microtransactions are egregious and they're selling shit like wakestones, fast travel and character editing. Apparently these things can be acquired easily in game, but why have them in the first place? Pure greed.
Not to mention that there's still only one save slot like in DD1, I can't honestly believe this. I want to keep a positive attitude going into this game, as DD2 is my most wanted and anticipated sequel to any game ever. All I ever wanted was for DD2 to be a better version of a game I love. I wanted it to fix those blemishes and become truly great, but they seem to stubbornly stick to terrible design choices.
Maybe DD2 can still be the game I wanted. I'll just have to wait and see as I play the game throughout this weekend.

But your opinion on DD2 can be useful feedback to make the gameplay more enjoyable. I would love to read your analysis on Dismas.
Yeah I know! I've been following the feedback channel on the official DD discord since launch and whenever I can think of something that hasn't already been said I post it there too. They even changed some small things I pointed out, it's neat that they're paying such close attention!
Thing is, I'm not sure if they would listen to feedback regarding the barks or the backstory of one specific character, especially when there are so many other issues to solve. Plus, I'm not sure if this is an issue for anyone else-- I think I've only seen two other people complaining about the characterization of specifics heroes, so maybe it's just me (plus one friend, I guess).
(More on that and some replies under the read more!)
Anyways, I've been trying to write my opinion on DD2 Dismas since I first played it, but the task always overwhelms me for some reason-- probably cause I'm overthinking this, if this folder is any indication:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Not a day goes by in which I don't feel like Charlie when it comes to DD2 Dismas.)
coffee-in-veins: aw, sorry that ask made you feel bad, that was definitely not my intention; sorry for that :{
Aww don't be sorry, you did nothing wrong!! I wanted to write about it, but like I said, I got overwhelmed-- probably because I feel very negatively about this, and this makes me feel small and petty, and then I wonder why I even care so much to begin with, and then I shut down and go play Hades until my hands hurt. Played 15 hours this week, my hands hurt so. Much.
So yeah, it's not your fault, I just can't deal very well with negative emotions lol
iceice-baeby: I don't like the game either, tbh. Maybe because the mechanics are different or my favourites are missing, maybe because of the weird romance mechanic?? (It just seems so tonally different, it clashes pretty hard with the rest of the game and I just don't think it fits, leave the shipping to the fandom :p) I don't even know all the character differences.
I have my issues with the relationship system, but I don't think the romantic aspect of it is weird or unfitting at all. People bond under adversity, there's nothing weird in that in my opinion.
My main complaints are: 1- the act outs need to be better balanced and more conditional (like, a character that could not/did not need to be healed should not complain about not being healed) and 2- desperately needs more barks. All of this can be improved as the game develops, it's already in way better shape than when it launched.
I don't mind the mechanics being different, they've made it pretty clear DD2 was not going to be Darkest Dungeon 1.5. I just have my doubts about the length of the acts. 4 to 6 hours playing with the same party is so tiring for me. I thought the addition of new enemies would change this, but you're still basically using the same moves on the same four heroes over and over and over, it doesn't take too long before it gets boring. Not to mention all the dead time we spend just travelling or waiting for the act outs to finish playing. And if you consider this is just act 1 out of 5, does this mean each full campaign will take around 20 to 30 hours?
I don't know. I love roguelites (played hundreds of hours of Slay the Spire and Hades), and what I love the most about them is the variety in each run. DD2 is still lacking this variety, and I'm not sure if adding more regions will help if you're still just using the same heroes the entire 4-6 hours. I'm not sure how could this be fixed in a satisfying manner though.
