Starson General Headcannons

Yesss my dude!! Love the star pirate

I personally headcannon him as an abyssian who can use light magic!

He/It pronouns

Knew and was close to Bloody Kimothy before joining the Jolly Hounds crew. The two had a previous streak of honestly kind of wacky crimes together and he seems to be the only one to understand Kimothy's gibberish (which is actually just abyssal tongue).

Looks really put together and, for a lack of better term, pretty for a pirate. Cares quite a bit about it's appearance.

Grew more and more dissatisfied about how Milo was as captain and was the most vocal about it. Muttered once or twice about a mutiny to Kimothy even.

Was the youngest of the Jolly Hounds crew, which is strange since most abyssians are quite old.

I personally think it'd work better if Starson was the navigator for the Jolly Hounds instead of Roger Rogerson given his whole star motif.

When he first saw the sun and stars (since there are none in the abyssal kingdom) it absolutely fell in love and sought out to learn everything he could about them (Starson might be the name he gave himself not a real one).

Writes sappy poetry which the crew would poke fun of him for.

Sings quite well! Would sing for the crew time to time.

I headcannon all abyssians resemble sea life to varying degrees and by extension that includes Starson who's head is in the shape of a starfish (another reason it fell so in love with the stars, it's like they were made for him).

Was the last to be killed by Milo as he used light magic to make illusions and trick him and was also the hardest to physically kill being an abyssian.

It's expression is stationary but his overdramatic way of speaking makes up for it.

He and Blackchin had a fling while on the crew but nothing serious.

Never cared much about the treasure, mostly enjoyed traveling freely and doing as it pleased. Though it would take interest if something twinkled enough.

When the crew would raid NPHC ships Starson would often leave the crew while they actually worked to over take the ship to go look for any star charts or maps in the captains cabin. This isn't the only case of it neglecting his duties in turn for his own interests and Milo would threaten him often because of it.

A little arrogant and cocky, and on a different page from its crew, but would always pull through for them when push came to shove.

MILO

Name: Milo Davies

Age: 26

Position: Captain

Bio: Milo is Poppy's younger brother and was part of the Laughingstock Crew in its early days. He left to form his own crew when he was a teenager, feeling stifled by Poppy.

Milo is vain and reckless, and he relies on his crewmates more than he'd like to admit. He acts tyrannical, but the crew doesn't take him seriously enough to feel threatened by it.

BLACK CHIN

Name: Evelyn "Black Chin" Black

Age: 30

Position: First mate

Bio: Milo, Black Chin, and Henric used to be buddies. They'd meet up at the pub and talk and fantasize together about forming their own crew. When Milo left the Laughingstock Crew, the three of them formed the Jolly Hounds Crew. (Henric eventually left for reasons I won't get into here.)

Black Chin is the only crew member Milo truly respects. He's more mature and levelheaded (and sober) than Milo and often acts as his voice of reason. He knows that he'd be a better captain than Milo is, but he's content with being first mate.

He HATES his first name. It reminds him of his posh upbringing. Mentioning it would get you a dirty look or a knock from his sword hilt.

KIMOTHY

Name: Kimothy Smith

Age: 33

Position: Gunner and striker

Bio: When he was a small child, Kimothy's parents shipwrecked off the Previously-Abandoned-Now-Inhabited Island and drowned. Kimothy survived and was raised by the PANI Islanders, who taught him his battle skills. The Jolly Hounds visited the PANI Island once, and Kimothy chose to join them, wanting to explore the world.

Kimothy is a jack-of-all-trades with weapons and carries three or four at a time. He's a violent but honorable fighter.

He speaks with a severe mumble and most people can't understand him unless he speaks in short sentences. Roger can understand him just fine, however, and usually acts as his interpreter.

ROGER

Name: Roger Rogerson III

Age: 43

Position: Scout

Bio: Roger once attempted to start a career as a detective. Unfortunately for him, there isn't much demand for detectives in Candle Cove. He resorted to joining the crew because he couldn't make a living and they needed somebody who was actually smart a scout.

He is a skilled (if tragically unappreciated) investigator and uses his skills to do things like find hidden treasure and obtain information from enemy crews.

He has a scope in his left eye socket. It has several moveable lenses (like those things optometrists use) and can function as a magnifying glass or telescope or microscope as need be. He designed and built it himself and had it surgically implanted by Dr. Mort.

STARSON

Name: Starson von Gnock

Age: 22

Position: Navigator

Bio: Starson was born into an aristocratic family that micromanaged his life, controlling everything he did in order to maintain their power in high society and keep up appearances. Knowing how rich his family is, the Jolly Hounds once kidnapped him and held him for ransom. It turned out that he was thrilled to finally be free from his parents, and to have some excitement in his life, and he chose to join the crew instead of return home.

He has a talent for navigation and map-making. He considers his time with the crew as temporary, eventually wanting to begin a career as a cartographer using the knowledge of Candle Cove's topography he's gained while sailing with the crew. He's just waiting for the tension with his family to die down.

BUBBA

Name: Barrabas "Bubba" True

Age: 41

Position: Cook and janitor

Bio: A bored sailor, Bubba accidentally stumbled onto the Jolly Hounds' ship one day, said, "Eh, why not?" and joined them. The crew was happy with this because nobody else knew how to cook or clean.

Bubba is a goofy and easygoing guy. He often seems drunk, but he doesn't drink; that's just how he is.

SARIAH

Name: Sariah Fanshawe

Age: 24

Position: Cabin girl

Bio: Sariah is an upper-class woman who's always been fascinated by the adventurous life of pirates. This is one of the reasons she was attracted to and started dating Milo. One day, she had a falling out with her family, and ran away to live on the ship with Milo and the crew.

Sariah was quite naive when she first joined, and the other crew members thought that she didn't have to guts to be a pirate. This wasn't helped by the fact that Milo coddles her. However, she's learning the ropes.

DANNY

Name: Danny

Age: 4

Position: Ship pet

Bio: The crew found Danny's egg abandoned one day while looking for treasure and decided to care for it until it hatched. Milo disagreed with this, but he was outvoted by everyone else. He eventually warmed up to him and considers him to be his pet.

Danny is a wyvern (he has 2 wings and 2 legs) and only about as big as a macaw. He can't breathe fire, much to Milo's dismay.

Still working on his design but this is what I have so far for Bloody Kimothy!

Some headcanons for him:

He’s an Abyssian now. He has fire magic!

Hair is always fiery and wild. In fact it burst into flames when he feels strong emotion.

LOVES RUBIES. he thinks they’re so pretty to look at. Oooo red and shiny.

Still the crews Gunner. He's got very good aim.

Used to be a highly skilled solider when he still resided in the Abyssal Kingdom. He’s very buff and well trained in combat cause of this.

Fire aligned Abyassians are rare. Not as rare as death or life magic, but still not as common. Plus due to their often destructive nature they tend to quite literally burn themselves till incapacitated. Kim and Red Mary are the only known Fire aligned Abyassians still active as of currently known. They also tend to have very sour reputations due to this.

Speaking of, due to being a danger to himself and others, he rarely uses his magic. He doesn’t want people to fear him or cause any harm.

He’s covered in healed burn scars from when he was younger. Fire aligned Abyassians have detective tendencies and high tempers. It’s taken Kimothy a lot of work to get to where he is now. Used to accidentally cause a lot of trouble when he lost his cool. Hence the nickname "Bloody Kimothy"

Sure he’s learned to keep a cool head but he still has his moments. He’s burst into flames once or twice since joining the jolly hounds crew. Milo pisses him off :)

However He’s very sweet and gentlemanly most of the time.

Body temperature is much higher than average. He keeps his crew warm during the winter months.

Still can’t quite speak English but he can understand it enough. His crew mates are doing their best to teach him.

Him and Milo are the adopted fathers of Starson, their youngest crew member. Kim loves starson with all his heart. Milo is a deadbeat.

Used to be very good friends with Thade before they left the kingdom. They kept in touch till the Red Mary incident.

Left the Abyassal Kingdom after hearing good things about candle cove from thade and to get away from the kingdom gossip. He didn’t take to kindly to be treated like a monster just cause he has fire magic. It was nice to get a fresh start.

Horace: The Peculiar Purple Pieman from Strawberry Shortcake? Possibly? I don't know, he reminds me too much of Waluigi I think

Thade: Either Snufkin or Jon Arbuckle. I see people headcanoning him as having this smooth, posh, elegant voice, but I think it would be funnier for him to look like an elegant goth but have a voice that makes him sound like a silly guy. Because he is a silly guy! To me

Sariah: I can see lots of high-pitched "princessly" voices fitting her tbh, including but not limited to Snow White, Thumbelina, Strawberry Shortcake.... I like Beatrice's voice from Over the Garden Wall because it isn't SUPER gentle and has some sassiness to it, but I think it would be cool if ALL my voice claims came from sources from, like, the 70s or 80s, and have that crackly low-quality sound to reflect that Candle Cove is an old TV show. Maybe I could put her voice through a filter...

Dr. Heartfelt: Ludwig von Drake (I'm kind of on the fence about this because he sounds pretty exuberant while I imagine Heartfelt to be more soft-spoken. I might look for clips of him talking softly and see what I think then. My other choice would be Matthias Schweighöfer, but he sounds too normal to me (as in not cartoony)).

Dr. Mort: Louis Jourdan (I was also on the fence about this for a while because he tends to sound a little too suave and debonair in his roles while I image Mort to sound like a little creep, but I think this clip specifically matches him vibe) (sort of unrelated but here's a clip of him SINGING! I think about it often)

Red Mary: Amanda Palmer

Susan Siren: Probably Ballora from FNAF, but I still like my older voice claim, which is Fiona Apple singing this song specifically.

Roger Rogerson: The Globglogabgalab

Bubba: Kris from Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

Starson: I said before that I was thinking of John from the Beatles cartoon for him, but now I'm thinking of Smart Gary from Spongebob. He just sounds like a little smarty.

I want to make a looooooooong voice claim video at some point so I'm in the process of looking for voice claims, but it's slow work :,) especially since I don't really have a solid "feel" for a lot of the characters (I only really really care about like 5 of them. The rest I'm kind of uninterested in rn, even though I want to develop them more in my head and get more invested in them so I can write fanfics with them and stuff like that). But I want to bring it into existence!

Some voice claims!

I once read a YouTube comment that said that John Chancer sounds like an extrovert voicing an introvert, and I think that fits Thade's character well. Like, he's shy, but acts like an extrovert around his friends (or at least that's how I imagine him). But I chose this on a whim, to be honest, so I might change it if I find anything better.

I don't know that many French characters or people off the top of my head, so I had to look up lists of French actors on Wikipedia. I've actually never heard of this movie before. But I'm proud of myself for finding it because this voice fits him really well! Almost perfectly!

I chose this voice because I wanted him to sound posh and kind of annoying. My only problem with it is... ugh... it's annoying. But I don't know, I think it has charm at the same time.
