Idk if you've seen love between fairy and devil before but omg it's literally everything haha, some of dylan's best work (actually probably *is*) and the entire thing is pure gold, it's unhinged and it's a fantastic love story so yeah, hope you have fun watching it <333

i’m watching it through for the first time right now !! ngl i started because of dylan wang and stopped watching after like four episodes the first time but i think around the immortal examination arc and the reveal of changheng xianjun’s true feelings, it gets rlly good …. and now i’m fully invested in the relationships,, and even the second male lead plotline 😭😭😭

Your thoughts on supposedly danyin and xunfeng storyline, how do you think that would have played out?

oh boy. anon you are not ready. this post got long, because it turns out that i definitely do have thoughts on this pairing!

first we have to answer this question: how would they have met? there aren’t a lot of opportunities for these two to cross paths; in the canon timeline, the only time xunfeng interacts with shuiyuntian’s people is when he’s fighting them— and even then he’s only fighting changheng. there’s the big battle at the end where him and danyin are in the same vicinity too? but they don’t talk. i don’t remember anything else, honestly.

so i propose this: they meet when danyin becomes the new god of war, post-500ish years when dongfang qingcang returns. she requests a meeting with the yuezun, but shangque sends a letter back like:

 “errrr well, you see, xianjun, zunshang is currently in lucheng with yuezhu, they won’t be back for a while, is this important…?”

and danyin sends one back like “ok?? i don’t care. just let me speak to whoever’s highest in command then. that’ll do.”

and that whoever happens to be xunfeng.

so danyin strolls into the palace, new armour and headpiece and all, sword at her side. she’s every bit of powerful of the gods of war before her, with her own strength too. shangque greets her at the door, ushers her inside, and leads her to the throne room where xunfeng awaits.

danyin takes one single step into the room when a voice calls out:

“so you must be the new god of war, xianjun.”

danyin looks up, doesn’t miss a beat, and replies: “and you must be the second highest in command, dianxia.”

xunfeng lets out a snort. he stands up and walks over, taking his time. at last, he comes to a stop in front of danyin, and bows politely. she bows back.

“xiongzun has mentioned you. he says you bother that old pest changheng by making him get up early to train with you. he says to keep it up.”

danyin is used to flattery, but the way xunfeng is delivering it strikes a different chord. hm. perhaps this meeting will go better than she expected.

“xiao run will be begging me to train with him soon enough,” she shrugs. “he’s going to need it after running around playing with the young mortal children all the time.”

“i’m sure,” xunfeng replies. “i’ve heard good things about you, danyin-xianjun. what brings you here to the palace today?”

danyin hums. “i had a request, dianxia. i was wondering if any of your soldiers would like to join my own on a trip to wangchuan river, to help with the lost and wandering souls there. the land around it is also low in population, due to the soul problem. no one wants to live there, but i think we can make it a habitable ground for both our people if we work together. xishan shennü and yuezun can help when they return, if they wish. their powers would be of much help in restoring the land and making it livable.”

xunfeng blinks. he wasn’t expecting that. it’s a good idea, don’t get him wrong. it’d be a good boost in their peoples’ relations, too. what’s the harm in agreeing?

“it is a nice proposition,” he says, and danyin smiles. “when do we begin?”

anyway over the next long while, they bond over their love for their duty and their people!! and they have a lot of late night talks when everyone else is asleep, they sit by the river often, go on boat rides etc. it’s sweet.

danyin is terrified, of course, that this will become a repeat of her feelings for changheng. but xunfeng dissuades her doubts by making the first move; he doesn’t kiss her, doesn’t know how he would even begin to do that, but he takes her hand and promises his loyalty to her forever.

and then danyin kisses him, and he learns how.

canglan don’t end up returning to cangyanhai until like, they’re almost done the project. xiao lanhua is ecstatic when she finds out that danyin and xunfeng are together, and dongfang qingcang pauses, then is like...

“well, didi, at least you picked the better god of war to marry.”
