Dick: Be on the lookout for your new project manager! As a perfectionist and Dixon’s wife, there’s no telling when she’ll pop up with 10 pages worth of notes on your latest assignment or nosy questions about the nature of you and Dixon’s budding relationship.

Now that I’ve read the first chapter of Ship of Dreams, I think I’ve come to the realization that the standards in which I judge a PB book’s enjoyability have changed quite drastically over the years. Once upon a time I would give a book 6 full chapters before deciding whether or not I liked it. These days it’s a more instantaneous judgment. Now I judge a book solely on how horny and cringey the MC is in the first chapter.

Decided to play the first chapter for the hell of it and...

1) Re-used MC faces...no comment

2) The fact that the MC and the Duke are MARRIED? And she’s going to have an affair while she’s MARRIED?! At least Sam and Sophia weren’t married when Sam had his affair. This just adds that extra bit of ick onto it knowing she’s married and cheating on her husband.

3) They’ve already established in the first few seconds that the Duke will be the one at fault for the MC’s affair because as we know, any female MC in these gender-locked stories cannot be anything other than strong, empowered, and faultess in the PB universe. And how the MC is just a sheer example of massive perfection in society’s eyes like every other freaking MC in these stories

4) Of course, after one touch from the love interest, she already had butterflies in her stomach and had her cheeks flushed after a simple compliment.

5) The fact that the love interest is supposed to be remarkably attractive yet the Duke is fat and will eventually be the antagonist in the series..says everything I need to know about that...

6) Already we get the flirty banter but 1700s version of it and it’s not even been 1 diamond scene with the Tutor.

7) Instead of making this story a single love interest and making the Duke sexist and misogynistic, they easily could’ve written the Duke better and had both the Duke and Tutor as love interests. But nope. Can’t have multiple love interests in these stories anymore.

All in all, it’s nothing new. It’s just taking PB going “Let’s take Desire and Decorum and make it smutty”

‘No because it is actually very hard to take TDA seriously. Like I want to take it seriously, it's the one affair story on this app where there's actually a believable sympathetic reason for it. So this could be an interesting story about how women (especially sapphic women) did not have a lot of options back in those days. But it's really hard to take the story seriously when Nat's an entitled prick, I'm forced to watch animals straight up mating, and MC gets stimulation from horseback riding. Just like with MTFL, the sexual tone is incredibly off.’
