replayed commander lilith and the fight for sanctuary recently and now i'm thinking about all the lost potential and it's actually making me so, so sad.
like! if they would've just continued from where the pre-sequel left off we could’ve had athena somewhere on sanctuary because you can't tell me that after hearing the watcher's words about the incoming war she would just go and become the ceo of whatever (fuck you ntftbl) instead of staying and helping the little people. because yes, janey did ask her to step aside from the vault hunting business, but, you know, there is plenty of work to do without needing to kill anyone – and athena wouldn’t be alone now. or at least she wouldn't be working with some questionable people
also, can you imagine what athena would've felt like after going to the helios ruins? the exact place where her life took a 180-degree turn? all the memories - the bad and the good ones - that would've flooded back? especially with the fact that lilith - one of the people who tried to kill her here the last time - is fighting alongside her. they are allies now. friends, even. (also, there is a thing to say about cassius - we don't know if she canonically spared him, but in this dlc she would've had the chance to see that it was actually the right choice. yes, he was manipulated to work with the bad guys again, but he atoned himself in the end, making a sacrifice for people he barely knew - something she could definitely respect)
and athena would be here with janey, too, because at this point they are quite literally married. and because janey is a damn good mechanic she would definetly be besties with ellie, with them bonding over some mechanical stuff (and i’m still convinced that janey should have been the one to build a spaceship for sanctuary 3. you know, considering her specialty). and she was also the one who had been working with scooter for some time so. she would probably have some stories to tell
besides, i just can’t stop thinking about how awkward the first meeting between janey and bl1 vhs would be. with lilith, brick and mordecai going "yeah sorry we kidnapped your girlfriend and sorry that we tried to kill her. we are on good terms now tho. she's a really good storyteller and everyone loves her. tina is probably her number one fan" while janey would be standing there staring daggers at them
oh and also consider this - athena and brick becoming friends on the basis of both of them needing to find a less... uh... murderous hobby. maybe doing some (real) gardening together as was suggested by mordecai. or cooking! or knitting! i don't know. there are just so many possibilities. and they would also spar in a free time. and athena would win every single time (becaue it was stated that if not for the vallory's interference, she would have taken both him and mordecai down so. yeah. she might be short but she is extremely deadly)
and i'm not saying that she should've been the dlc's main focus because in the end it is a story about lilith becoming a true leader for the crimson raiders, but still. having athena around would've made so much sense

What do you think is the best order to play the borderlands games in for someone who knows jack shit about it but has 1,2,3 and the pre sequel?
Borderlands 1 (and all dlc)
Borderlands 2
BL2 DLC except for Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary
The Pre-Sequel (and all dlc)
Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary
Borderlands 3 (and all dlc)
Chronologically, TPS takes place in-between 1 and 2, but it will give you some very bad ideas about things if you play it this way. It was released after that, and the story pretty much assumes you have played BL2 before it.

// Character Study Drabble: The Meeting
“MY DECREE IS LAW. YOU BEING MY SPAWN DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM IT.”
The other nephalem sheltered behind him, basking - trembling - in awe at the angel that had invaded their sanctum. The light of Inarius’s wings was blinding in the dark of the underground temple, and it seemed that Linarian was the only one who could handle his intensity. He could not blame his students, however. They were younger and had not blossomed to their potential, and Inarius was an overwhelming being to behold.
His father’s intentions were hard to sense, but he felt rage; a rage unlike any he had empathized from the angel prior. And he had felt so much of the negativity Inarius had bottled over the years. This was… new.
Lilith’s betrayal had cut what remained of his father's heart deep.
“Father, I am but a humble scholar. I-” “SILENCE.”
He would obey. For now.
Bowing his head in a show of respect, Linarian’s eyes would glance behind him, his fingers wrapped around the youngest of his student’s - a raven-haired male no more than a decade of winter’s age - to assure him of something. Anything. He could not confess, nor show, that this had unsettled him deeply as well, and to say that it would be okay was a lie he was not willing to give.
“THIS ORDER OF YOURS SHALL DISBAND IMMEDIATELY.” bellowed Inarius, his hand gesturing over the small band of students, “YOUR FOUL MAGICS ARE A RISK TO THIS WORLD.”
“A risk?” Linarian sputtered, “I-I am a healer! How is any of thi-” “I COMMANDED SILENCE AND OBEDIENCE , WHELP.”
And silent he would be once more.
News from the surface found its way underground quite swiftly, and the recent happenings after the death of the ancestors was no exception. Inarius had already spilled the blood of the First that had defied him, and should he speak out of line, he could likely be next. It was surprising that he was not the first, however. The angel held no love for him despite having helped birth him, and he could sense no love nor hesitation even now. Linarian’s stomach churned with anxiety about the angel for the first time in many circles of the moon.
“It shall be as you wish, father.” he would lie hushed. Normally, he would protest, but not at the risk of the others. This was not their typical disagreeance over the matters of Sanctuary, this was something far more dire, and he could and would only press once they were alone.
All he could do was turn to offer his followers a reassuring smile, a gentle nod. The eldest of the group would know his intention - they had spoken of potential emergencies prior - and the rest would come to know and find where to gather away from prying eyes. All that mattered was allowing them to escape, even if Inarius seemed to have no wanting for them.
The sound of metal striking stone reverberated through the sanctum as Inarius stepped forwards instead of simply flying, stopping to stand beside Linarian without expression. The holy one’s cloaked face, devoid of anything as with all angels, would glance down upon the child that clung to Linarian’s side, and he would let out an echo of a sigh — long and exasperated.
“IS THIS ONE OF YOUR BLOOD?”
A terrifying question. The child shook, and Linarian could do nothing more than hold his hand to comfort quietly. Even a mere question intimidated himself at such an age.
“No. He is not. None of my children are here. Nor my partners. I am the only one of my family here.”
“GOOD. THE RABBLE MAY LEAVE. I WISH TO SPEAK TO MY SON, ALONE.”
The communal tide of relief was euphoric.
But the sensation of goodbye? He could feel it from some of the others as their eyes met his, some with tears welling. He did not know that as he bowed his head, his too were dampened with confusion and fear. For goodbyes were not supposed to be hard for their kind, and yet, this one felt as if it could be more than so. It was so very hard to tell.
He would fight with words to ensure it wasn’t.
Ushering the child towards one of his most trusted, he would watch as they scattered. Some went the direction of the surface, and others would make their way deeper into the caverns under the temples. It did not matter where so long as it was not here. They would find their way, and so long as they obeyed his father, he would not come to harm them. Inarius, much as his mother, enjoyed their worship, at the least, and would bask in it for as long as possible.
It was once the scurried footsteps ceased that Inarius would speak once more, prompting Linarian’s mournful state to melt to a blank slate of sheer apathy, mentally preparing himself for an exchange he knew would be far more pressing than their former ones.
“THE WORLD IS MINE AND MINE ALONE NOW,” the angel would begin, his arms and wings outstretched in celebration, “AND THAT MEANS IT’S FUTURE AND YOU AND YOUR OFFSPRING’S SURVIVAL HAS COME TO MY DECISION,”
A horrific statement, but Linarian would listen without any acknowledgement.
“YOUR STUDY. I HAD PAID ATTENTION, CHILD. YOU ARE OF THE WORLD, AND THUS, THE WORLD STONE AFFECTS YOU JUST AS IT AFFECTS THE WORLD.” What had he done? There was no possible way to mask his curiosity — a brow cantered, and his head would nod just once. He had discovered that, yes. They were dirt, as Inarius had so called them several times; molded from the very clay of Sanctuary itself. It was the most basic of observations, and one of his first dealing with matters of their deaths.
“IF YOUR KIN ARE TO THRIVE IN MY WORLD, THEY SHALL NOT HOLD POWER THAT WOULD ATTRACT EYES FROM HELL NOR HEAVEN. AND THUS, I HAVE ENSURED IT TO BE SO. YOUR KIND HAS BEEN SPARED BY MY BLESSING.”
“...what… did you do?” Linarian questioned with a rasping hiss, his heart pounding with a swelling anger that rivaled the angel’s own from just moment’s prior.
“YOU DO NOT PAY ATTENTION. THE WORLD STONE. I HAVE USED IT. ARE YOU TOO DENSE TO HAVE NOT NOTICED HOW THE POWERS OF THE OTHERS HAVE CHANGED? ALL BUT YOU AND YOUR SIBLINGS."
He had noticed. And he had noticed the deaths of some his siblings as well. He had felt the sting continually through the week before the news had been relayed to him from above, but the reason had not reached him until not long before his father’s arrival. Death happened, and he mourned each time he had felt it over the years when he could not visit, but it was clear Inarius was to fault. The betrayal was not unexpected, but he could not show the pain outwardly, and suppressed it even now for his own welfare.
“Yes, father. But, what good is stripping us of our power for? That is our birthright, and all we have built is-”
“YOUR. SAFETY.”
“I do not understand. Is this about your fear of being discovered? Again, what good would having us be weak do? Are we not to defend ourselves? What is there t-” “YOU DO NOT LISTEN WELL, AS USUAL. YOU ARE ALL ABOMINATIONS. IF YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN BEASTS, YOU WILL NOT IRK THE IRE OF-”
“Who? Yourself? Are you to say that all of your kind, and all of mother’s, would find us as revolting? If we are even to be found?”
The searing heat of Inarius’s golden wing wrapped around his torso, lifting him from the ground as if he were nothing more than a doll. He could easily tear through the tendril and free himself - his strength had not diminished in the slightest - but he did not. He chose not to. There was no sense, at this time, in struggling. The nephalem’s anxiety still stirred within him, but he would not show it still, he could not.
“IF. IF YOU ARE TO BE FOUND, YOU ARE TO SURVIVE. THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. THAT IS WHAT YOUR DAMNED MOTHER WANTED, AND DESPITE HER BETRAYAL, I WILL HONOR HER LAST WISH AS IT IS ONE AND MINE THE SAME.”
The grip tightened. And it was a grasp far more intense than any he had been held in prior during the angel’s bouts. The crack of rib would make Linarian wince in pain and bleed from the mouth, enough to signal for the angel to drop him to his knees. There was no aura of regret for the seemingly accidental exertion; Linarian would heal, and he did as he always had. It only took seconds for him to regain his breath, and for the bone to mend under flesh. It only took a moment longer for him to resume his argument after spitting aside the blood, trying not to distract himself with the taste of it lingering.
“I understand that-” “GOOD.” “But what of my kind? What of me? Am I not to aid my kin? And of my studies, I am so close to breakthroughs! To understanding how our souls work!” “NOT WITH YOUR POWERS. TEND TO YOUR POISONS AND MEDICINES IF YOU WILL. WATCH YOUR DEAD ROT. I CARE NOT. YOU WILL DO NOTHING THAT INDICATES THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER YOU DO. I WILL NOT ASK AGAIN.”
“Bu-”
It seemed that Inarius would not debate him this time, even for entertainment and the chance of lecturing him as was in years past. Two wings would unfurl this time, one wrapping around his neck and the other his ribs again, and a sword of light would be summoned to his hand with an instantaneous flash and hum. It pointed at him, unwavering.  And as the tendril seared exposed flesh, Linarian felt death approaching him, his eyes settled on his father’s blade with a dread that he had only felt through other’s before in their final moments.
Inarius fully intended to kill should he not submit. But kill him he had not. The angel kept his son in the torturous state for seconds that felt like minutes, tossing Linarian this time to the cold ground with monstrous force. It was a warning, and one that he was now listening to closely.
The nephalem felt himself grow limp; he was left paralyzed in a pool of his own blood, even if only temporarily. His thoughts grew quiet. Nobody, not even he, could continue under the duress of such pain.
“I WILL DO UNTO YOU AS I HAVE DONE THE OTHERS THAT HAVE DEFIED ME. DO NOT CONTINUE TO BE A DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME, CHILD.”
And with that, it seemed Inarius was done. The sword would disappear from whence it came, and the angel would turn his back, taking one glance back upon his child, who in turn, could barely manage to make out his father’s actions under the haze of blurring vision. Linarian would attempt to reach forwards without thought, but could not muster more than a twitch as the angel’s wings outstretched once more, propelling him forwards to leave the temple, and his son, in complete and utter silence. The debate was over as quickly as it had attempted to be began.
The first thing, other than pain as his senses began to spur once more, the nephalem could feel was more death from the far distances of their world. Inarius had gone to speak to the others.
And arguments were ensuing, and ending swiftly. One after another. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Little bit of a rant, cause I'm back on the Borderlands!AU hell wagon, Borderlands is one of my Special Interests so of course I'm hyperfocusing on the lore again, and continuity errors bother me
Spoilers for Borderlands 3, said rant, and pet death mention under the cut
I was writing some more of Gabe and Dabi's Borderlands!AU, cause I had to put my Heart Rat, Eris, to sleep last week, the night before I was supposed to get home from my trip, and I'm still incredibly heartbroken about it, and for some reason my go-to coping mechanism is writing hurt/hurt, no comfort, we march into the thorn bushes naked to feel better /j /ij /lh
I was thinking about making Hawks another Siren for story purposes (screw genders, we're all hermaphrodidic frogs in this house /j /lh /ij), so I went to go look at the list of known Sirens...
And I think I just realized there’s a canon timeline issue if there’s only supposed to be 6 Siren’s at a time, with the 7th and final one locked away for everyone’s safety.
Because at the time of Borderlands 1, we have:
Lilith, with Phasewalk (who was a Siren from a young age)
Steele, with an unknown power (who had the rank of Commandant in Atlas’ Crimson Lance)
Maya, with Phaselock (who got her powers as an infant, and given to the Order of the Impending Storm)
Amara, with Phasetrance (who has had her powers since childhood, first using them when she fought a bully)
Angel, with Phaseshift (who got her powers as a child, and was at the very least in her mid-to-late teens while helping the first batch of Vault Hunters) and
Tyreen and Troy, with Phaseleech (who it is implied got their powers from Nyriad, seeing as the ancient Eridian-Speaking Siren had locked them in the Vault on Nekrotafeyo where the twins were conceived | As up until this point all Sirens were women, it is assumed that the only reason Troy is a Siren is because he was Tyreen’s parasitic twin, and somehow ended up absorbing some of Tyreen's Siren abilities as well)
They were all, or at the very least should have been, Sirens, so there's the 6 right there.
By my math (apologies if I'm horrendously off here, I'm going off my memory and 2 minute google searches through both fandom wiki and the Borderlands threads on Gearbox's Forum site, so something's bound to be off), there's:
About 5 years between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 (Mentioned many times in-game)
There's about a year between End Game-Borderlands 2 and the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC (Lilith mentions Mordecai had been sober a full year so he could properly raise Talon, who hatched shortly after Handsome Jack's death)
Then 7 - 8 years between Commander Lilith and Borderlands 3 (Off-handed comment from Vaughn about the VR torture devices only really being used to play games from 7 years ago, making reference to Borderlands 2 VR | Tiny Tina has 'World's most dangerous 13-year-old' in her Borderlands 2 Title Card, and 'All grown up. Still insane.' in her Borderlands 3 Title Card. Presumed to be around 20 as Gearbox has yet to give an official age)
So 11 years minimum, 15 years at max, and both those numbers are if we fudge them as far as canonically possible. And all of these lovely ladies, and Troy (with the obvious exceptions of Angel, whose power passed on to Tannis, and Commandant Steele, whose power is probably currently sitting in some poor teenager at this point, can't wait to meet you in Borderlands 4!) are at least in their late 20's - early 40's during the events of Borderlands 3?
So here's where my issues show up
There’s a couple of comics set during Borderlands 1 (Borderlands: The Fall of Fyrestone and Borderlands: Tannis and the Vault), that introduce another Siren: Asha, with some kind of Animal Control ability that I cannot find if there was ever an official name given or not, other than Animal Control.
According to the comics, Asha was employed by Marcus as an attendant in Fyrestone, greeting the Vault hunters as they come through the town and helping them get set up, as well as close friends with Claptrap. Two months prior to Roland, Mordecai, Brick and Lilith being dropped off in Fyrestone, Nine-Toes had rigged a bus to explode on arrival as part of his first attack on the town, and Asha was thrown into a coma when she was hit with shrapnel. Claptrap sent her to New Haven to been cared for by Tannis, finally regaining consciousness just before the Vault Hunters leave to fight Sledge. The only time we ever see her use her Siren abilities is when the final piece of the Vault Key is eaten by a Rakk Hive, leaving Tannis, Asha and Claptrap to rescue the nearly defeated Vault Hunters. Claptrap gets badly damaged, Asha reveals to him she's a Siren, she disperses the Rakk swarms, letting the Vault Hunters launch a bomb into the Rakk Hive, killing it.
Asha's status has been listed as unknown, and I cannot find anything about if the comics are canon or not. But that is still 7 Sirens during Borderlands 1.
So, as I was playing through Borderlands 3 on stream, back when it originally was released, I came across Nyriad's Audio log, "Warning":
You. You know now all that I know. This was an epitaph, not for myself, but for the world I knew. I have brought ruin to the Sirens, murdered the Eridians, and imprisoned a primordial force of the universe. Perhaps I have earned your hatred, or your sympathy. But that is not why I write these words. I have told you the truth, no matter its hard edges. Before I can put my fractured mind to rest, I must pass one more warning.
You must never find the Seventh.
(I could not find the written transcript for this Eridian Writing anywhere, even on the fandom wiki, so I ended up transcribing it myself from a video. Many thanks to EruptionFang on YouTube for having the complete Eridian Writings Messages with timestamps so I didn't have to launch my game just to get it)
Anyways, I pointed out that I could have sworn I'd read something, probably around the time of, or just before Borderlands 2 official release date, saying that there were only ever 7 Sirens at a time, and was very confused as to when they'd changed it to only 6. Am I the only one that happened to? Is this another case of the Mandala Effect?
But back to my rant, did Nyriad think of herself as the Seventh? Or was she referencing another of her sisters? Cause if she was talking about herself, then I kind of wish Nyriad has been clearer in her warnings, y'know? Instead of being vague... But if she was talking about one of her sisters, then yeah, canon's wrong. The way she worded her warning kind of made me think she was referring to one of her sisters, so...
The other possibility is that the comics are not canon at all, in which case canon's correct. But I would like official clarification on that.
Can we please know, Gearbox?!? I'm begging you guys to give us a straight answer!
But yeah. Mini rant over. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.

Hi! I kin Gaige from the Borderlands franchise. Upfront I'm just going to say I've already found my Maya and Moxxi, and possibly Tiny Tina (the little in our system is questioning her but we limit its exposure to the more graphic parts).
Saying that, Maya and I are looking most for Lilith and Axton! I believe our tl follows source for the most part, however Roland didn't die and instead broke up with Lilith before we got together. I was also a trans girl, but I had physically transitioned before coming to Pandora. If I remember right, I was pan I just preferred being with girls, and I was also nonbinary and used skagself neopronouns but was fine with she/her or they/them too, just not he/him.
Between the events of 2 and 3, and beginning during the Commander Lilith and the Fight For Sanctuary arc, I launched my own weapons/shield/class mod manufacture under the name of Firehawk and often allowed other companies like Maliwan to produce using my blueprints.
From the time I landed on Pandora, I had a very close affinity with skags and even rescued one from Jack's exploitation preserve who came with Lilith and I when we settled on Eden-6. I named him/it/? skags are weird Spot, and later adopted another I named Tank. Tank would try to run into people and the only one he could never knock over was Brick. I also had an interest in rodent, specifically hamster, care and would write articles/books on the subject and build enclosures.
I know we were close with both Sir Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakob, so it would be nice to talk to them again! In our tl, Ava was mine and Lilith's bio daughter, and we had a son we named in honor of Scooter with the nickname of "Scoots", both were a weird combination of traditional and test tube methods. Maya and Axton had two kids, a daughter named Juniper who eventually dated Ava when they grew up and a child she was carrying during the second war, but Brick and Mordecai adopted Tina after the second war. Ava was also a siren who had Angel's powers, but getting into the machinations of how sirens worked in our tl would probably be best left for other communication lol.
We have some pretty gnarly memories of Roland, Jack, and the Calypso twins, so if you'd like to talk please just be wary of that. But anyone is welcome, we're looking most for Lilith and Axton as we miss them soooo much! Marcie is okay, too, I guess. And anyone else is welcome. 18+ for Lilith and Axton as Maya and I are over 18, but we're fine with anyone 16+ so long as you're comfy with it! We're both systems but only mine has other Borderlands kins, but they're willing to talk too. Thanks!

The Fight for Sanctuary also brings the loot. Why Are There So Many Songs About Rainbows? (I didn't even make a scratch.) It looks like he tops out at 40, but even trying at level 38, I didn't last long. There's even a new raid boss who 100% requires assistance from your friends, since he scaled four levels above my character the first few times I made a solo attempt to take him down. Oh right: bosses! There are plenty of new bosses here, some for the main story and some for the plentiful side missions. Boss battles are tough, but again, far from impossible. It's not frustrating, but it's definitely not a cakewalk. When playing solo it was just a little tougher than I expected, which is a good thing. Speaking of frustrating but fair, with my newly minted level-30 Krieg the difficulty in Fight for Sanctuary feels just where it should be. While they're obnoxious, it's a great way to drive home the cooperative focus of the Borderlands franchise: two or more players can divide and conquer, knocking out the medics more or less simultaneously. If there's a single medic in the group you have to take him out first or he'll heal all the damage you're doing to his fellow soldiers if there are two medics in a group, they can heal each other. You know how one of the loading screens in Borderlands 2 says you'll "learn to hate" the repair bots? The medics are even more aggravating. You also fight against Hector's troops, which are much tougher and unrelenting versions of the heavily armed and shielded Hyperion soldiers you've fought before – and they have medics. They do have more in the way of slag and corrosive attacks, but thankfully they're even more susceptible to fire than regular flesh bags. They fight similarly to their non-infected counter parts: rushing and melee attacking or blasting you from a distance. New baddie Colonel Hector of the New Pandora Army is the main antagonist here. His is a woeful tale of betrayal at the hands of the Dahl Corporation, but that doesn't mean Hector isn't a total dick, because he is: his plan involves infecting Pandora with a virus that turns the enemies you're so used to fighting (psychos, brutes, skags, etc.) into half-plant, half-zombie killing machines think the Flood from Halo and you have a good idea of what you're up against. (I know, it really took me by surprise.) New baddie Colonel Hector of the New Pandora Army is the main antagonist here, and his goal is to create a paradise for the men of his unit. If you're like me and you've switched platforms since playing the original Borderlands 2 (in my case from Xbox 360 to PC), Gearbox has your back: You can roll a new level-30 character using any of the Borderlands 2 Vault Hunters and dive right into the Fight for Sanctuary.įight for Sanctuary's main story is, shockingly, all about fighting for Sanctuary. Gearbox courteously warns new players of the potential spoilers, but honestly, this DLC isn't for new players anyway. The 10-hour story picks up immediately after the events at the end of Borderlands 2. The promotional nature of it initially had me a little concerned Fight for Sanctuary would feel rushed and/or half-assed, but I'm here to tell you it's not. the Son of Crawmerax back in 2014 – and, for the next 30 days, it’s free. Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary is the first DLC for Borderlands 2 since Sir Hammerlock vs. It turns out those completely unbelievable rumors about a Borderlands 2 DLC bridging the gap between part 2 and the upcoming part 3 are entirely true.

Watching Rebuild of Evangelion 3.0
3.0 hmmm so rebuilt really is a rebuilt a rewrite. here’s to hoping its less... weird.. about everything than the og series. if they take out how every woman miraculously wants gendo i will be happy. mmm that earth isn’t looking so good. so the collars are kill switches. one of the crimes of the anime is that the writers drove misato and ritsuko apart. hmm but who is fighting who here. asuka and mari were fighting against eva tech. hmmm mari’s connections to the evas hasn’t been revealed yet and they’ve been teasing kaworu for 3 movies now. shinji hasn’t realized he caused the apocalypse, i’d be easier if someone just told him hey you destroyed the world. they gave him crocs! 14 years hm? why didn’t asuka age? did the opening scene take place recently? or 14 years ago? all eva pilots all teenagers frozen in time. restored? hmm what rei thought was important? ah I love this for ristuko. when the climax of the anime hit and the writers had ritsuko risk it all for gendo i was ... going to write a strongly worded letter. but take down nerv and stop instrumentality with her gal pal? hell yeah. misato threw a coup and most of the staff went with her. i love that. or at least i think the short haired woman was on the command station team in nerv.
nice contrast between the slapdash rushed and hectic but filled with people nature of wille vs. the empty and automated nerv. oh so this is the gay piano scene people were freaking out about a decade ago. oh wow shinji’s getting like 10 the exposition her got in the anime. anime was all dramatic irony because the audience knew more. i think its pretty kind of misato and co not to kill shinji outright given how dangerous he is. i can’t read kaworu. i do believe he is doing this for shinji, but what he has said plays well into seele and nerv’s plans. will the two of them really be able to take the spears away from the control of everyone else? didn’t he say those were the keys to instrumentality? shiji is totally being used here no question by seele, nerv, and kaworu. why is lilith sealed off? nerv had access to their body before the third impact. if shinji left with unit 13 he could stop/delay nerv’s plans. ... does this mean shinji and kaworu are drift compatible? lilith’s corpse? at the epicenter of the third impact, whose head is the giant rei head gendo has. the giant rei formed at the end on 2.0 how is that lilith? what happened to the giant crucified one? ok those skulls are huge what are they.
ah there it is. give kaworu false information and use him to convince shinji to get in the eva, and once in shinji will magical thinking his way into completing the mission even when it will no longer save the world. oh shinji is totally about to make things worse. no more cyborg spines for seele they’re full digital in the movies and gendo has pulled the plug. mark 6 turned into Big Rei which turned into a fetus which turned into a smaller red ball which mark 13 ate. hnnnnnnnnnn over to the wiki i go! instrumentality refers to wiping out lilith lifeforms for adam lifeforms to take over???? well that’s a big change from the anime where it meant hiveminding humanity. “this is my fault?” yup it sure it. well kinda. is it me or is the translation for 3.0 wonky? hmm asuka is much more stable here in the rebuild. her family issues weren’t aggravated and she didn’t have a breakdown like in the anime. huh so this planet still has a breathable atmosphere.
wow so in the end just like the anime kaworu was hyped up and only got 30 minutes of screentime which i suppose in an improvement. there’s definitely something to be said for shinji killing kaworu, but i rather like kaworu’s role here all the same. i remember back in the day people were waying kaworu was stuck in a timeloop like homura, was that all theorycrafting and speculation? there was only 1 line in this entire movie series that supports this. the one living thing shown the entire movie the tree by the piano was a nice touch. shinji’s sanctuary.
oh so unit01 fusing with giant rei was the near third impact. the true third impact was a later separate event caused by the fusion of mark 6 with lilith. ahhhh i see. if mari releasing shinji’s entry plug was what stopped the fourth impact, did kaworu need to die?
one thing i would have wanted to see more of in 2.0 would be the destruction from past battles. i wanted to see more of how humanity isn’t springing back quickly. how the cities destroyed aren’t instantly repaired. the dialogue alludes to this like how nerv jp is running out of spare parts and has to prioritize fixing 01 over 00 and the deterioration of rei’s apartment but i would have liked to see that also reflected in the landscape more.

8. what does your muse fear losing the most? 12. does your muse tend to push themselves too hard? 13. how does your muse outwardly express their anger?
8 -- Sanctuary's loss is the one potential that haunts him more than anything. After seeing events that proved his own armageddon prophecy to be set in motion, he became more reclusive than legend stated he was simply out of fear. Any shift to his visions due to meddling could mean anything could change the outcome he saw, and while it is terribly difficult to change fate, it can be done, even by accident.
Trag'oul - before his silence - noted that this could happen, and implored to Rathma that he should have faith, but years of solitary silence only made his dread grow worse, and he became apathetic. While he was never paralyzed by fear - and rarely showed it tangibly towards the end - he barely stepped food back onto Sanctuary towards his death to ensure he would greet it as foretold.
Nothing else mattered to him but maintaining the balance, and securing the future of his children.
12 -- As far back as his nights as Linarian, Rathma was known for being both stubborn and far too invested in whatever it was he had taken interest in. Upon his discovery of death magics, he would remain awake until the bright hours of morning, exhausting himself in a manner that concerned even Lilith.
His fellow Firstborn used to mock him for his strange vigor, and after they discovered death, would mock that he would meet it simply because he just never seemed to take time for himself. His appearance at forums and parties was always a welcomed surprise... after intervention to convince him to relax. (And they would ensure that his time was enjoyable, if only to pull him back above ground more often.)
Even the guardian took note of his excessive obsession with research, and needed to mend his student's ways. One cannot study the balance if they themselves are not.
Despite the snake's best intentions, however, even to this day Rathma slaves tirelessly over his research, using it to distract himself from the future. He is, after-all, only "human" and could not escape slipping back into old habits.
13 -- Rathma is of the blood of hatred, and yet, it is rare to see him truly angry. And even when his rage manifests, years of meditation and numbing has allowed him to harness it for focus, rather than lose himself to it. He would rather simply leave, and then deal with the hassle in a clearer state of mind should it be needed, than actually confront or harm. Curses from the darkness between realms, however? A little balance. As a treat. He isn't entire above being petty and seeking revenge when it makes sense to him.
However... his past is a different story. During the time of the ancients, Linarian was known for his quiet and reclusive nature, so when his voice did raise upon his loss of patience, it shook the others. The commanding presence of Inarius was absolutely within him, and there was a venom from Lilith as well that forced most to listen. He would rarely fight with his kin, but should it come and his emotions were fire, his ferocity was unmatched. It usually took little more than fang and word to cause another nephalem to back down, but should it come to fists or weapon, Linarian would. His lithe stature, however, meant that physical altercations didn't always go in his favour, and he learned quickly that such fighting, no matter how much his blood boiled, wouldn't end well for him always.
Blood has been spilled by him in rage before, but only blood for blood. A partner, a child (even not his own directly) - if any harm came to them, he would retaliate in kind, and it is said these were the only times one could see the sadistic side of demons in his being.
