New Year’s Surprise

Erik Stevens x Black reader

Part 2

(One shot. Maybe not. Shit, I don’t know. We’ll see. lmao)

Warnings: None. Just something sweet. I was bored and wanted to get this one outta my brain. Lol

*NYE Night*

Laila didn’t have any plans. Her girls begged her to get out tonight, but she just wanted to drink wine, light candles and enjoy one of her new bath bombs from Lush.

They were going to one of the more exclusive lounges downtown for NYE. She originally planned on joining them but had a change of heart at the last minute. She didn’t feel like being the sixth wheel. All the girls had dates and she would’ve been solo.

Erik had been out of the country for three months now. She’d hoped she could spend NYE with him, but he had to stay longer than expected. She and Erik had been dating for almost a year, but they were friends first. It just kinda happened.

First Chrismas, now New Years without her man? This shit wasn’t gonna fly during the holidays in December 2020. She decided she’d be content as long as she got to hear his voice tonight.

She spent all day cleaning her house. She had a bit of superstition around New Years Eve because of how she was raised. She refused to enter the new year with a messy house. Laundry was washed, pots were scrubbed, and floors were mopped. She already had dinner prepared and the wine was on chill.

She decided to grab one of her bath bombs and draw her bath.

She finally sunk down into the tub with her Spotify playlist softly playing through the bluebooth speaker as she sipped on her wine.

She sent a few texts to her friends in the group chat after they sent her videos and pictures of them in their NYE looks. Part of her wanted to get out of the house, but she was committed to her bath and wine.

She leaned against her spa pillow to close her eyes and hum to “I Want You” by Janet Jackson.

The music paused when her phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Wassup lil baby?”

She smiled to herself at his pet name and finally hearing his voice.

“Nothin’. In the tub, listening to music.”

“Oh you havin’ one of yo lil’ spa days again?” He chuckled.

“You know it!” She smiled to herself as she swirled her hands around in the pink and purple water from her bath bomb.

“You ain’t goin’ out tonight?”

“No, I changed my mind.”

“Why? What happened?” He sensed the change of tone in her voice.

“Nothing. I just wanted to kick it at home instead. That’s all.”

She knew he would worry so she downplayed how much she missed him. Truth is she missed him like hell, but she didn’t want to show it. They talked on a regular basis while he was away, but it wasn’t the same. This was the first relationship in a long time that had Laila considering things she hadn’t before.

There was silence for a few seconds. He knew she was lying, but he let it go.

“Alright, if you say so. Don’t fall asleep in the tub off the wine again.” He snickered into the phone, recalling a few months ago.

“Babe, we said we wouldn’t talk about that!”

“Nah, you said we wouldn’t talk about it!”

She smacked her lips as he continued to snicker on the other end.

“Whatever.”

“Nah, but for real I got a surprise for you. It should be there tonight. I did that overnight shit.”

“Ooh, what’d you get me?”

“If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise no more. Now would it, lil baby?”

“Whatever. It better be good since you’re not here with me.”

He could tell she was pouting.

“I got you babe. I promise. Aye, finish your lil’ spa shit and I’ll call you back right before midnight, aight?”

She didn’t wanna get off the phone, but she obliged and hid her pout anyway.

“Okay.”

They hung up and she resumed her Spotify jam session and bath.

An hour later and she had finally wrapped up her bath, put on her body butter and put on shorts and one of Erik’s old MIT t-shirts. No matter how many times she washed it, it smelled like him.

It was going on 11 PM and she was getting antsy about this gift and she hadn’t heard back from him yet and grew tired of waiting. She decided to call him back instead. As soon as he picked up, the doorbell rang.

“Babe, hold on. Somebody’s at the door. It might be my present. Did you use FedEx or UPS?”

“Shit, I’on remember. They probably just left it on the doorstep and dipped anyway. Open the door girl.”

Laila was giddy to receive her package. He chuckled at her squealing.

The door swung open and there he stood with his suitcases rocking a grey Nike tech sweatsuit and Jordans. His locs falling in front of his face, freshly retwisted. He had been traveling home the entire time.

“Wassup?” A smirk crept on his face displaying his shiny bottom grill and those dimples she couldn’t get enough of.

She grinned from ear to ear, biting her lip at his voice, his smell, the way he looked at her. She didn’t know whether to strip naked where she stood or cry.

She had so much to say, but the words wouldn’t come to her so she hopped in his arms instead. Her arms wrapped around his neck, legs tightly around his waist. He chuckled as he held onto her, gripping her ass as he buried his face in her neck.

“Surprise, baby.”
