I played don't starve for the first time ever tonight and I died on the first night. I got attacked by something and died right there in the dark!! Wild

yes! darkness will kill you, there are monsters in the dark. to survive you need to build a fire. twigs and grass will get you through. i super suggest spending your first days just gathering basic resources while exploring the map! dont be afraid of the dark, just make sure you always have torches or at least the supplies for torches. its one of my favorite games and im excited to hear you tried it!!!

I've been meaning to try it for years but I'm so lazy lol. I got a fire going but it went out. I tried to fight the birbs for food but they all flew away. I also thought I had to stay at my "spawn point" so I was scared of leaving it, but I guess that's the whole point lol

oh yeah defo stray from spawn. you can feed the fire to keep it going, but in the first few days i’d suggest just torches except to cook food. there are a bunch of rlly helpful guides to starting a new world on don’t starve on youtube. i tend to try to wander around until i find beefalo and set up base near them for a handful of reasons (poop, mostly, a valuable resource)

you can make traps to catch and kill birds later, but focus more on berries and carrots in the beginning!
