Favorite Male Character Daud. One of my all-time favorite characters and my number 1 in all video games before Daeran came and pushed him off his throne. Grim, supernatural assassin, once ruthless now regretful, with dry humor and a group of former street kids he adopted trains. My second fave ... well, the Outsider probably, mysterious god who absolutely does never plays favorites and gives people supernatural powers. I adore him in Dishonored 1, I don't like what they did to his character in Dishonored 2 and I don't even want to think about the standalone Death of the Outsider. Ohh and I probably should mention Kirin Jindosh too. Ruthless inventor and genius.

Favorite Female Character Billie Lurk! Former assassin, serious and straightforward to the point of bluntness, ambitious in her goals and enjoying revenge. She's a big inspiration for one of my OCs. Also, Emily in Dishonored 1! She's so smart and attentive and I love her drawings and how she becomes the mirror of what happens in the city and of Corvo's decision.

Least Favorite Character Emily in Dishonored 2. I'm very torn about this game in general. There are aspects about it I love to bits and I adore deeply. But the route they chose with some of my favorite characters from the first game is terribly disappointing. Especially Emily and the Outsider lose so much of what made them intriguing in Dishonored 1. In this context, I also have to mention Daud. Ha. Him of all people. It still hurts. I will never completely live down how they ruined his arc in Death of the Outsider. If we ignore the answers born of disappointment: Luca Abele, the new ruler of Serkonos, dictator and dumber than a tin of brined hagfish.

Favorite Ship Corvo / The Outsider in Dishonored 1. I was so obsessed with this ship. Daud / Teague Martin. They don't even meet in the game itself. 😂 But the fandom went wild back then and I enjoy what we collectively imagined them to be. Billie Lurk / Delilah for the problematic ship collection.

Favorite Friendship What I imagine the whalers to have. Once more, that's more headcanon than in-game information, but at least supported by the things that are shown. I imagined there to be many close connections between those former orphans and street kids having found a family in each other. Billie Lurk and Sokolov! Their friendship had me sobbing in Dishonored 2. 😭

Favorite Quote "I've learned that our choices always matter to someone, somewhere. And sooner or later, in ways we can't always fathom, the consequences come back to us." (Daud)

Worst Character Death (if any) SPOILERS: Daud's in Death of the Outsider after he was barely recognizable as the character I loved in Dishonored 1 and the DLCs. This was a punch in the face of his fans, nothing else, and I don't even want to mention it here because I don't accept it. Kirin Jindosh's death. The alternative is a lobotomy and destroying his brilliant mind. This and killing him are the only two options. I know for sure, I searched for hours, leaving nothing unattempted, and finally ended my search crying over the fact that I had no choice. He's the reason I'll never finish Dishonored 2 with the "Clean Hands" achievement you get for not killing someone.

Saddest Moment And at the same time one of the best. SPOILERS: The Highest Chaos Ending in Dishonored 1 with a Corvo who even let Emily fall to her death. The softness in the Outsider's voice, the utter distraction, the way the song blends in and gets a whole new meaning ... I get goosebumps every single time, even after all those years. X

Favorite Location Dishonored 1: The base of the whalers in the Flooded District. Boyle Mansion and the whole Estate District in Dunwall. Dishonored 2: All of Karanca, every building, every street. Listen. Listen. This city is pure perfection, I could cry over it's amazing flair every single day. 😭

Daud/Martin for the ship ask meme, if you’re up for it? :D

Well, I certainly feel up for it, whether I will manage is another question :'D (for the ship ask game)

Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa.

Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them Martin, methinks, but mostly because he knows Daud will be irritated with his desk being turned into a heart-filled nightmare.

Who starts the tickle fights I think Martin? He feels like enough of a rat bastard to strike when it's least expected. Does not mean he always wins them.

Who starts the pillow fights Daud, but not because he plans to. He just throws a pillow at Martin and Martin takes it as a declaration of war.

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile Ooooh this one got my feelies thinking about it. I think they take turns based on who falls asleep first, but the first time it was Martin looking at Daud. It took a while, because Daud is like a feral cat and does not let himself be vulnerable easily, so the first time Teague got to see him fall asleep? And realised that he is trusted? Yeah. I also think it was his italicised oh moment. Aaand now I made myself soft. XD

Who mistakes salt for sugar I think Martin is more likely to do so. Overseers just don't strike me like they are allowed many indulgences like salt and sugar, definitely not the lower ranked ones. Martin might not have started out an Overseer, but he is still not prepared to have salt and sugar in great abundance.

Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning Neither, I think. Both had to live somewhere they shared with others (whether that's the Overseer bunkhouses, or a rotten house with all of Daud's children assassins, they both have enough decency to not do that. Not anymore, at least.

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines Martin, because he specifically wants to annoy Daud with it.

Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order Daud. He studied at the Academy for a while, he definitely wants his library to be easy to search through. Martin would probably organise it by colour though, because it looks nicer.

Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies Both might? If they're not using it anymore, at least. Although Martin will definitely lick it in-between uses too, which costs Daud a year of his lifespan every time.

Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion Martin keeps a lot of candles naturally, but I don't think he would use them for everyday dinners. Not often, at least. He does bring them out when he's feeling special, not when an occasion dictates it.

Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen Martin. He's not that good of an artist, but Daud might indulge him occasionally.

Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation Daud, I think. Martin left his life behind elegantly to become an Overseer, whereas Daud feels like he would keep at least some things from his life. Even if it's just a small souvenir magnet.

Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines Martin would. Daud does not care for them (he would only do the crossword) but he does sigh and answer when Martin gives him a question.

Ahhh, this was fun to think about, thank you so much for asking (even if it took me a while to get to it)! I hope my answers make at least some sense :'3

A: How did you come up with the title to Knife in the Ocean?

Easy one! It’s a reference to the song A Knife in the Ocean by Foals (who i absolutely adore!). I thought it was a fitting title, Yannis is quoted as saying the song is about the end of the world, and I like a dark timeline! I also thought it was fitting as Daud, the Knife of Dunwall, has disappeared and left everyone to rot in the chaos. 

edit: ALSO!! the lyrics “What came of the things we once believed? Oh, all lost to the depths of a hungry sea “ fit really well with Martin being branded a heretic, especially with my headcanon that the Void is actually at the bottom of the ocean!!

H: How would you describe your style?

Uh, I think I’m a descriptive / emotive / atmospheric writer. I love to channel feelings through my writing, whether through scenery or the character’s emotions, all I want to do is connect with people and make them feel something. I don’t know if that’s how I come across though! 

X: A character you enjoy making suffer.

Teague Martin!!! In when the tides are lowest I liked making him suffer with regret; in interlude I had a lot of fun with VoidSpirit!Martin and still think about that AU a lot; and in knife in the ocean I thought it would be fun to blind him. Honestly I just love him and want him to be the main character of his own story, and all main characters have their trials and challenges. 

Y: A character you want to protect.

Daud. He’s been through too much in-game. I just want him to be happy. Find peace with what he’s done and accept who he is. Live out a quiet retirement in Serkonos. I will try my best to give him the happy ending he deserves.
