Significant Polaroid ‘Polaroid Now: The History and Future of Polaroid Photography' features a variety of works by photographers using ‘Polaroid' cameras to celebrate the history and development of the brand. There are over 200 images within the book that showcase the many ways in which the ‘Polaroid’ can capture a moment as well as photographs by celebrated individuals such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Rhiannon Adam and Nadia Lee Cohen. We shot it a few months ago, before Non Plus Ultra shut down as a show space. I have always wanted to have a video of us cleaning up the space together, which is something we did regularly, especially after big events. Those were some of my favorite times, and I wanted to capture the down to earth laidback feeling of those moments.
I love trash, AND I love to clean. Probably because it gives me first pick of any treasure that’s been thrown away. I’m a very balanced person, really. One of my favorite jobs was being an early morning janitor while I was in school. It was solitary and calming work, which is a bit different from cleaning in a group, which is more of a communal meditation. Everybody cleans whatever they will on their own, but we all enjoy free flowing Tecate, records through the main system, and the reassuring scent of bleach together.
