Live Review: The Jesus And Mary Chain at the Albert Hall in Manchester 23 March 2024
Words: Ben Forrester
Let’s start at the end shall we? My night ended with getting the last train back to the Cheshire countryside, as it usually does. But as it was a Saturday night, it was a total war zone, resulting in a group of sleepy drunk teens being individually slapped by fellow passengers in fear of them missing their stop. Even playing super gnarly, early cuts of the band I’d just been…

Less, deathcrash (2023)
deathcrash pull off the same trick as on their debut – and, as expected, whether you liked it or not the first time around will likely dictate whether you’re here for it again. Less exhibits more somewhat clichéd slowcore that is very well-assembled and extremely listenable; it’s essential if you need to hear everything in this genre, totally inessential if not.

IN A MINUTE:
A BUZZ_BIN EXPRESS…
//
“DEAD, CRASHED” is the closing track from @deathcrashdeathcrash’s latest LP titled ‘Less’ (@firetalkrecs) & it finds the London-based quartet of vocalist/guitarist Tiernan Banks, guitarist Matthew Weinberger, bassist Patrick Fitzgerald & drummer Noah Bennett unleashing their quietly loud blend of post_rocking & slow_coring Emo.
“OH” is a choice cut from @flyyingcolours’ latest LP titled ‘You Never Know’ (@poisoncity) & it finds the Melbourne-based quartet of Brodie J Brümmer, Gemma O'Connor, Melanie Barbaro & Andy Lloyd-Russell bringing a relentless surge of swirlingly gazed, beautifully breathy & cinematically hued DreamPop.
@lvsterband are here w/ “DOPAMINE LOOP,” the official lead single/title-track from their forthcoming LP (4/21 @theefuneralparty) & it finds the LA-based outfit eyeing those halcyon warehouse days across 3 mins of pure melancholic psychedelia that effortlessly pulls from the 90s well of shimmered ShoeGaze, pulsating post_punk & buzzy Electronica.
