Deltora Quest (2007)
Tumblr media
Propaganda Below
Sent: "This show is amazing! It’s based on Emily Rhoda’s book series Deltora Quest which was a classic series we read in primary school. Coming home from reading the book in school to seeing the show (a couple episodes behind where we were in the book) every Monday and Thursday was the highlight of my week as a child. I rewatched it in 2019 and some things hold up, others don’t because it’s a show that was made in 2007 lol but the nostalgia of it fixed my soul"
Google: ""Deltora Quest," based on the children's book series by Australian author Emily Rodda, tells the tale of warrior Lief, who at 16 is presented by his father with a magic object known as the Belt of Deltora. When the Shadow Lord, an evil sorcerer, destroys the belt, thereby taking over the kingdom of Deltora, Lief faces the greatest challenge of his life. With assistance from his mentor, Barda, and young orphan Jasmine, Lief -- armed with only a sword and a magic cloak -- ventures into dark and dangerous places to find the seven magic gems stolen from the belt. Once back in their rightful place, the gems will empower the heir to the throne of Deltora and free the people from the tyrannical Shadow Lord."

Propaganda below the cut!
Randulph Hirahara
don't vote for him. he sucks. i know i personally would never fuck him. i'm only submitting him because he is canonically a dilf. no i'm not explaining what i mean by that. i don't think you wanna know. wait is he even obscure? fuck
Barda
He was a palace guard when the shadow Lord took over Deltora and the king fled the castle. Years later, a young boy named Leif goes on a quest to drive away the shadow Lord and retake the land. For safety, a scruffy man named Barda accompanies him on the journey.
So basically, Barda is the voice of reason who is on taking care of two teenagers while on a quest to save the land (another character joins the group later).
In conclusion, he is the older man and voice of reason in the group, making him very dilfy.

Hitching a ride...

You nod and pass him some money. You climb into the wagon and squeeze yourself between two other passengers. It’s nice to rest your back against the side of the wagon and stretch your legs. The passenger to your right begins sharpening their knife. Maybe you should have kept walking.
The wagon jolts and you hear a scrape against its bottom. You wince.
‘Not great, is it?’ the woman next to you says. ‘We don’t have trolls up here for maintenance and the witch of the roads is poorly. What brings you up here, anyway, dear?’
You tell her you want to apprentice yourself to the witch of the northwest, but you can’t remember which road to take to reach her. You’re too tired to feel shocked when she tells you there are multiple witches with different specialities.
‘Well, what you want to do is hop off at Ringle and strike up a conversation with anyone in the busiest tavern. They’ll be able to point you to where to go next.’
You pick up your bag as the wagon approaches a sign saying <- To Ringle. You shake your new friend’s hand and thank her for her help. It’s now late afternoon and the air is growing colder. You shiver - your clothes from the south were not made for this weather. You head straight for the busiest tavern.

Group A Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: the first image is of Tom, an older man with gray hair. he's holding onto a rope. the second image is from the Atari game "Adventure." there's a simple yellow castle, a yellow key, and a little yellow square. end ID]
Tom
GOD i'm obsessed with this random fucking shopkeeper for no reason hes just so funny to me. he's like buddy buddy with the servants of the evil tyrant wizard but he sold their mounts for like 20 bucks because he loves money and then said they were stolen. he has a button that makes people get physically stuck to merchandise. to fuck with them. he has a sister he's psychically linked to but they're both embarrassed by each other. what's his problem.
The Player Square
he's just trying his best but he can only carry one thing at a time and dragons keep trying to eat him. yet he soldiers on time and time again. legendary behavior

hey dawg, love the poll, just wondering if minecraft was left off out of a deep loathing of the cube game or if you just didn't think it'd be people's first exposure?
I left this in the notes and in at least one reblog but uhhhhhh I Genuinely Didn't Know lapis lazuli was in Minecraft because I've never played it.
I've also never seen a single episode of Steven Universe lol.
I made the poll because I'm rereading the Deltora Quest series (it still slaps fyi) and I genuinely had not seen or heard of the lapis lazuli gemstone OUTSIDE of the series besides the one time I heard a Steven Universe fan say the word, which is the only reason I knew it was in Steven Universe. (That's also why the note about pronunciation is in there; I had no idea how it was pronounced because I'd only seen it written down and was surprised when the person said it because it was NOT how I was saying it in my head.)
Had I known that it appeared in Minecraft as well I CERTAINLY would have made it an option. This is also why I didn't include "real life" options because I've not come across it out in the world even though I did KNOW it was a real gem, I just assumed it was a lesser known/unpopular one.
For the record, I have made a sequel poll that includes Minecraft and other options because there are a LARGE number of people in the notes who learned about lapis lazuli through special interests/hyperfixations and/or family members for whom it was a favorite gem. In that poll Minecraft is holding steady at about 37% and "rocks are cool" is a solid second place at 17% (well above Steven Universe!) so it's an interesting experiment.
