Have you seen the video 'How to spin dog fur into yarn: Theo the samoyed floof'? What do you think about it from an ethicality stand point? Not that video specifically I guess, just the concept broadly?

As a broad concept I’ve no real issue with people making use of what are clearly waste products that an animal has no use for. This is strictly in cases where it is incidental production that does not harm the animal in any way, and the animal is not being exploited. This would rule out things like manure from farmed animals as well as backyard eggs, but could include things like shed hair, wool from sanctuary sheep and feathers.

However, I think as a general principle we should try to avoid finding ways to benefit from our relationships with animals, just because of how ubiquitous animal exploitation is and how easy it would be to slip into that, especially where profit is involved. For example, if Theo’s owner were selling products made from shed fur I’d have an ethical issue with that, unless the money was entirely going towards maintaining the animal or a non-profit.

Generally, it would be better if the animal community benefited from those waste products, rather than us. Fur and wool can make blankets or jumpers for rescued animals, for example. Otherwise, products being donated to homeless shelters or food banks is a good way to benefit our wider community rather than ourselves, assuming we don’t have real need of it.

Realistically this painting will show up uncensored on patreon eventually. I'm planning to set it up so subscribers get early access to art, and exclusive access to some of the nsfw stuff. All of the SFW stuff will eventually be posted to tumblr as well (just will a delay of a few months or smth), and it's possible I'll start a free tier for access to some of the nsfw works as well but I think I'll keep most of those exclusive for a paid tier.

This is partly also a way for me to restrict access from minors as well tbh. I know people under 18 can have credit cards and disposable income but I think it makes it at least a little harder.

I'm not sure if you've answered this before but I couldn't find it. Do you (or other vegans) have a stance on buying non-vegan food to give to homeless people? A man on the street today asked me for $ andI didn't have any cash, so I offered to go to the store with him and buy him some things he needed. He picked out some chicken sandwiches. It really doesn't feel like an appropriate time to ask somone to pick something vegan, but I also feel guilty over spending money on animal products.

Usually I give $, which will likely not be spent in vegan goods anyway, but idk I still feel off supporting animal cruelty, even though it benefits someone who needs help. Any advice?

I can only give my own view, but I don’t think that there is any obligation on you to buy something you’re not comfortable with, in any context really. It’s your money and what you will and won’t buy with that is ultimately up to you. It’s always an option to explain your boundaries, and they should always be respected.

For the same reason, once you donate money, that belongs to the recipient and is up to them what they do with it. Donating cash is generally more useful than food anyway, since they’ll be able to use it at a time and in a store which suits their needs and their available funds. What they choose to buy with it is out of your hands, and that’s okay. You aren’t supporting whatever they buy, you are just supporting them.

If you’re uncomfortable with both options, the third option is to donate your money less directly. What could be a homeless shelter or charity, a food bank, soup kitchen etc. Even better is if you can donate your time to any of these organisations as well. You’ll be doing plenty of good either way.

Okay, so, this had been on my mind for a while and I kinda decided to ignore it but then someone pointed it out and I've been thinking about it for weeks again without reaching a satisfying conclusion.

At first, I titled this tournament as a "named after..." thing. Now, quite some time later, the tournament has been rebranded as a "Botanical Tournament" (except in my url, which I'm keeping because I'm attached to old stuff and don't want people to get confused).

The thing is, a few submitted characters are not named after plants. Plants are named after them.
