📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?

the actual last thing was me reminding myself that i lent a friend a book (ninth house, if anyone’s curious) but the last fic related note i jotted down was written two days ago at like. 3am and it simply reads, “LT inspired au: gem = vanja, pearl = ragne???” (kudos to anyone who catches what i’m referencing)

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

in my experience, there are two main types of writer’s block, generally: there’s the “your body is rebelling against the idea of creativity bc you haven’t eaten or drank in ten hours or you’ve been criminally overworking yourself,” in which case, the fix is just… a break and self care. then there’s the “brain will not write/generate ideas for seemingly no reason,” which is about 10x more annoying to work around but usually i either table whatever i’m struggling to work on and work on smth else (hence why my google drive is a Monster lmfao), get my brain warmed up by rereading and sometimes editing a finished fic, or doing this trick i learned in english class ages ago and just. writing all my thoughts in a list format until my brain spits out a new idea or decides it’s ready to actually write.

when you’re writing the chapter, which font and font size do you use? and what line spacing do you use?

cause i’ll see your 50, 60, or even 70 word docs and im in shock cause it never feels that long when im reading the chappys 😭

my font of choice is helvetica, 14pt, 1.5 spacing 🫣

Calibri (it’s my default font and I didn’t bother to change it).

I usually use 12pt. 1.15 spacing.

The page count is deceptive. I only look at the word count. Because some of my lines are shorter and for example if there are texts, shorter dialogues, etc in the fic, the page count will increase but the word count will remain low :)

Chapter five is coming! It actually (whisper it) has some of my favourite scenes I've written in it: some scenes I've had in the tank for a while but haven't quite known what to do with, and others that I wrote specifically for Beasts and have been excited to finally get to use. Right now I'm in the fun but extremely chaotic scene-and-flashback writing stage, where I write a bunch of little scenes out of order. And then when I've got them into a shaggy workable shape I can copy and paste them into one big doc and start to move them around and play with them and see if I can discipline them into one discrete chapter and start to play with pacing and shape etc. The other day I finally did myself a favour and built myself a storyboarding spreadsheet to more systematically track the different themes across chapters, and, although it was an absolute ball-ache to do, it has like solved a lot of my problems, lol. Storyboarding works, they weren't lying, who knew! You absolutely hate to see it!

On length - I'm actually genuinely concerned I don't know how to write a short chapter. Did you see those 'microfics' I did! I was taking the piss! Imagine being able to be concise. ✨ Imagine ✨ I'm staring at this spreadsheet looking at the errrrrr twenty four themes I want to track across this damn fic and wondering why I am so consistently such a dumb dumb bitch who makes life hard for myself

★ what was the scene you most wanted to write in bookshop AU? what was the hardest scene to write?

▵ favorite line from tale... i feel like this changes every single time i open the doc! right now, this section from way later in this fic, is my favorite. can you tell this fic is like 80% climate crisis anxiety

Fire was meant to clear away the debris of past harvests, making way for the next. It was wine on a wound, meant to wash away infection—though it would burn and sting to high heaven. But not all wounds healed. Some were no longer fresh, but already starting to rot and wither. Some were too deep, too wide, too plentiful, and all he saw in every direction was dry grass and dead trees. There was nowhere for them to hide, fire eating away at all sides of them, and he'd seen well enough that fire ran faster than he could.

★ oh god i can't WAIT to have brain space to get back into the bookshop, holy SHIT. everything is so soft there and nothing hurts

the scene i most wanted to write was that moment when mox and bryan finally kiss in chappy 12. i had a really strong image in my head of what it would look like, like the movie of it in my brain was soooooo soft and nice and pretty and the lighting was dramatic and it was so nice and gentle. i dunno that i did it the way it plays in my head, but im ultimately happy with it

currently, the hardest scene to write is coming up in the next chapter or so, and talking about it is a huge spoiler. but it involves yuta being eager, bryan being a whole idiot and mox being impulsive. there's soooooooo much to begin setting up the final act of this fic without showing my whole hand. hopefully working on tale will help with inserting The Conflict into this hallmark movie of a fic!
