Of Princes and Witches (Rewrite) Chapter 15- Legolas Greenleaf x OC
Tumblr media
Legolas Greenleaf x Alphine Barrowes
Description: During the Battle of Helm's Deep Alphine does something she's never done before: use her powers to their full extent.
Word Count: 2k
Tumblr media
The battle was, for the most part, surprisingly even. Alphine knew that it wouldn’t stay that way for long though. Thus far she’d stayed on the battlement taking care of the Orcs using ladders to scale the wall. She’d lost sight of her friends long ago, too focused on the task at hand to really care. After a while she finally heard Aragorn’s voice.
“Togo hon dad, Legolas (Bring him down, Legolas)!” He called desperately. Her brows furrowed as her eyes found him. He was looking down at the ground, where the Uruks were. She followed his gaze to two Uruk soldiers carrying a huge metal spiked ball. They placed the ball under the wall next to the sluice gates shortly before another pair copied them with a second spiked ball. Another soldier ran through the soldiers with a lit torch, and Alphine knew that whatever was about to happen wouldn’t be good.
She attempted to throw spell after spell at it, but she couldn’t get a clean shot. There were too many soldiers crowded around him and her aim wasn’t as good in pouring rain. She heard Aragorn desperately yell at both Legolas and her to kill the Orc, but it was all in vain as the soldier dove into the sluice. With no warning the wall exploded from under her, demolishing that part of the wall.
Alphine didn’t even have any time to scream as she, along with the other soldiers on the wall went flying. She landed on the ground behind the archer Elves, and it took all she had not to pass out then and there. Instead she forced herself to stand, ignoring the pounding of her head and  heart, and looked around, trying to figure out what to do next. Men and Elves alike laid on the ground, some unconscious and others already unfortunately dead.
“Brace the gate!” Theoden yelled from somewhere up above them. Instantly a large group of soldiers surrounded the gate and braced themselves as the Uruk-hai rammed it. Other Men lifted their barricades and threw rocks and spears at them in an attempt to slow them down. Alphine looked around desperately, then froze when she spotted Aragorn as one of the fallen soldiers. She sprinted over to him, falling to her knees and desperately attempting to shake him awake (hoping that he was just unconscious).
“Ási, mellon nin, ortu (Come, my friend, get up),” she begged urgently as she shook his shoulders rather aggressively. It only took a moment for him to come to, and he stared up at her confusedly.
“Alphine?” The girl internally sighed in relief.
“We mustn’t waste time,” the girl continued firmly as she stood up. She helped Aragorn up and handed him his sword. He offered her a grateful smile before lifting his sword to the Elves behind them.
“Hado i philinn (Release arrows)!” They did as he said and fired their arrows, hitting Uruk-hai soldiers. As they did so, Alphine grabbed the sword of a fallen soldier and went to help wherever she could. She had no idea how long she’d been fighting before she heard Theorden yell again.
“Aragorn! Fall back to the Keep! Get your men out of there!” The man nodded in response then called out to the Elves fighting alongside them, repeating the Rohan King’s message. Haldir, who he’d personally called out to, nodded then gestured to his soldiers, also calling out to them.
“Nan Barad (To the Keep)!” As he finished his command he turned and killed an Uruk-hai, only to be stabbed in the stomach by another soldier behind the one he’d just killed. Alphine’s eyes widened and she yelled his name as he stumbled, clutching his stomach. Terror filled his eyes as he leaned against the wall.
As that same soldier lifted his sword to stab Haldir in the back, all the Witch could think about were Orophin and Rúmil, the Marchwarden’s brothers. She’d had the pleasure of meeting when the Fellowship was staying in Lothlorien and actually got to know them quite a bit, having enjoyed their lighthearted company. The mental image of their anguished expression upon learning that their brother was dead was too much for Alphine to handle. There was no way she could let him die without doing something.
Just as before, her hands lifted up. One hand placed a protection spell over the Marchwarden for what she was about to do. A flash of lightning struck down, and she took that as her chance. She channeled all the power she could muster, then she felt the lightning enter her body with an electric shock. It didn’t hurt, however, as she redirected it and aimed it towards the Orcs that surrounded Haldir.
She hadn't even realized the extent of what she did until she watched a rather sizable mass of Uruk bodies essentially rain over the soldiers of Helm’s Deep. There had to be at least a hundred dead. Shock ran through her. Had she really done all of that? Based on the sudden wave of exhaustion that accompanied her surprise, her answer would have to be yes. Not even Galadriel’s cuffs help her this time. She’d never used that much power before, having no need to when her normal amount was more than enough at times.
It seemed that Haldir was also shocked by the show of power because  looked around at the dead bodies that surrounded him then faced Alphine with mouth slightly agape. Even he wasn’t the only one surprised as well. As the Witch pushed herself to run towards Haldir, she heard Gimli yell from somewhere behind her.
“Why didn’t you just use that in the first place? Where has this Alphine been all this time?” A fatigued laugh left her lips as she reached the Marchwarden, and she wrapped his arm around his shoulder and lifted him up. Using the remaining strength and magic she had, she lowered them from the wall he originally stood on and began heading towards the Keep.
She got as far as she could before the other soldiers of Lothlorien met her and took their Marchwarden from her arms. Since she no longer needed to support someone else’s weight and after pushing herself much farther than she would have liked, Alphine felt herself become weaker by the second. She fell to her knees before she even realized, but before she could fall to the ground she felt arms around her waist. Upon looking up with droopy eyes and a heavy head, she was met with Legolas’ worried face.
“M-Make sure Haldir gets help.” And with that, her vision faded to black and she fell unconscious in the Elf’s arms.
Tumblr media
“Welcome back, Alphine,” Annatar greeted with a small smile that the Witch found herself returning. “I have to admit, I didn’t think I would be seeing you so soon. But I cannot deny that the surprise is not unwelcome. You fought hard in that battle.” Immediately Alphine’s smile fell as she remembered the battle she’d been fighting at Helm’s Deep.
“Oh no,” she gasped out, standing from whatever seat she sat on. “The battle! I-I need to get back-”
“You cannot go back yet,” the person said calmly, which confused her. “You lost a lot of energy before you fell unconscious, to go back while you are still trying to regain it would be foolish.”
“But my friends-”
“Are all okay. The battle has ended.” Alphine’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“What… How do you know that?”
“I have my ways,” he responded gently. “Call it a sort of sixth sense, I know things.”
“Did we… Did we win?” She asked hopefully, earning a nod from Annatar.
“As the day began to dawn Gandalf the White arrived with the Riders of Rohan, including Theoden King’s nephew, Eomer. The Uruks, being outnumbered, retreated into the forests that had formed in front of Helm’s Deep, and they were finished off by the trees.”
For a moment Alphine was confused yet again, but then she remembered what Gandalf had said back in Fangorn Forest about the trees waking up. Apparently he hadn’t been lying. Nevertheless she couldn’t help but sigh in relief as her smile returned. The very sight seemed to bring a smile to Annatar’s face as well.
“I’m glad that brought you joy to know that,” he muttered earnestly.
“More than just joy,” she agreed with a wide smile as she glanced around at the darkness that surrounded them. “May I ask you something, Annatar?”
“Be my guest.”
“Why is it that we are always in the dark? Is there nothing else that surrounds us?”
“There is, but I’m afraid what this room looks like may surprise you,” he admitted.
“I believe after all that I have witnessed, I can handle it,” the girl laughed softly. “I would like to see it if you don’t mind.” Annatar was silent for a moment, then he pursed his lips and nodded. Then, without either of them moving, light faded into the room, allowing her to look around.
Alphine was surprised to see that they were in what looked like a hall of gray stone. The tall ceiling was upheld with great pillars of black marble, leading into the moldings of the arch and lit by deep windows on either side. Tall stone statues graven in the likeness of what she correctly assumed to be former rulers were set between the pillars. At the far end of the hall, set high upon a dais, was two thrones of what she assumed to be for a King and Queen under a canopy of marble shaped in the likeness of a helm. At the foot of the steps which led to the thrones was the seat of a Steward, an unadorned chair of black stone.
“Are you a King?” She asked curiously, facing him once again.
“Of sorts,” he nodded, moving towards the thrones. “At least, I hope to be someday soon.”
“What land will you rule?”
“That information will be saved for another time,” Annatar said, stopping and turning to face her. “Would you like to see them up close?” Alphine bit back a comment about how he always seemed to be keeping information for another time and instead nodded. She took his hand and allowed him to lead her up to the thrones.
As they walked up the steps she looked down at her feet to make sure she didn’t trip, and she realized that she was in the same black dress as in her last dream. She took a mental note of that as they reached the thrones, which she realized were also made of gray stone. They were beautifully carved, and Alphine became aware of the distinct urge to sit in the one she stood in front of.
“Go ahead,” Annatar said softly, almost as if he sensed her thoughts and feelings. “Sit. No one here will stop you.”
“There is no one here to stop me,” she pointed out amusedly, yet she still found herself taking a seat in the throne.
“How do you feel?” He questioned softly.
“Like royalty,” Alphine admitted in the same tone. Despite how silly she felt saying it, it wasn’t a lie. As she sat on a throne fit for royalty in a beautifully crafted dress, she felt like a Queen. Annatar nodded.
“Is it a good feeling?”
“Yes,” she breathed out.
“What if I told you I could make that your reality?” That made Alphine look at him.
“What do you mean?”
“I could make you a Queen, if you so desired,” Annatar offered. “You could rule by my side for all time.”
“That is a big promise you’re trying to make,” she laughed softly.
“But one that I can keep.”
“I still don’t even know where we are, or what realm you’re soon to rule over,” she pointed out, earning a sigh from him.
“Then I suppose I must wait for your answer until next time. For now, it’s time for you to wake up.” By this point Alphine was used to waking up with little information learned, but she was starting to grow frustrated with the lack of context he was giving her. Unfortunately, as she opened her mouth to say something about it she was interrupted by Annatar.
“Farewell, Alphine.”
And with that, Alphine was engulfed in darkness yet again.

A quel punto aveva corso qualcosa come 210 maratone.

Of Princes and Witches Chapter 12- Legolas Greenleaf x OC
Tumblr media
Legolas Greenleaf x Alphine Barrowes
Description: During the Battle if Helm's Deep Alphine does something she's never done before: use her powers to their full extent.
Word Count: 1.8k
There were too many soldiers crowded around him. She heard Aragorn yell at both Legolas and her to kill him, but it was all in vain as the soldier dove into the sluice. With no warning the makeshift bombs went off, demolishing that part of the wall.
Alphine couldn’t even find it in herself to scream as she, along with the other soldiers on the wall went flying. She landed on the ground behind the archer Elves, and it took all she had not to pass out then and there. Instead she forced herself to stand, ignoring the pounding of her head, and looked around, trying to figure out what to do next. Men and Elves alike laid on the ground, some unconscious and others already dead.
“Brace the gate!” Theoden yelled from somewhere up above them. Instantly a large group of soldiers surrounded the gate and braced themselves as the Uruk-hai rammed it. Other Men lifted their barricades and threw rocks and spears at them in an attempt to slow them down. Alphine looked around desperately, then froze when she spotted Aragorn as one of the unconscious soldiers. She sprinted over to him, falling to her knees and attempting to shake him awake.
“Ási, mellon nin, ortu (Come, my friend, get up),” she begged desperately as she shook his shoulders rather aggressively. It only took a moment for him to come to, and he stared up at her confusedly.
“Alphine?”
“Nan Barad (To the Keep)! As he finished his command he turned and killed an Uruk-hai, only to be stabbed in the stomach by another soldier behind the one he’d just killed. Alphine’s eyes widened and she yelled his name as he stumbled, clutching his stomach. Terror filled his eyes as he leaned against the wall.
As that same soldier lifted his sword to stab Haldir in the back, all the Witch could think about were Orophin and Rúmil, his brothers. She’d had the pleasure of meeting when the Fellowship was staying in Lothlorien. The mental image of their anguished expression upon learning that their brother was dead was too much for Alphine to handle. There was no way she could let him die without doing something.
Just as before, her hands lifted up. One hand placed a protection spell over the Marchwarden for what she was about to do. She hadn't even realized what she had done until she watched a rather sizable mass of Uruk bodies essentially rain over the soldiers of Helm’s Deep.
“M-Make sure Haldir gets help.” And with that, her vision faded to black and she passed out in the Elf’s arms.

When Alphine came to, it was light out. She was lying in the large bed of a bedchamber and without armor. Her brows furrowed as she carefully stood up. Memories of what happened ran through her head and she found herself running out of her room. There were people chatting happily as they walked through the many hallways of Helm’s Deep, which made her smile as she realized that they’d won. And yet, she still couldn’t find any of the companions she’d arrived with. Eventually she found Gamling stopped him.
“Gamling, have you seen my companions? The ones I’d arrived at Edoras with?” She asked worriedly.
“Why yes, they just returned with two Hobbits. If my memory serves me, they should still be in the Great Hall preparing to return to Edoras for the celebration tonight,” the Man answered. Two Hobbits? Surely he couldn’t mean… The Witch offered him a quick thank you before practically running towards the Great Hall, a hopeful smile on her face.
It didn’t take her long to reach it. The doors were already wide open, which allowed her to see who all was in there, namely her companions. Just as she suspected, Merry and Pippin had joined Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf as well as several of Rohan’s royal court. Her smile widened at the Hobbits and, as if sensing her presence, the duo turned to face her. Their smile was not unlike hers as they sprinted at her full force, practically leaping into her arms when she dropped to her knees.
“Alphine!” They exclaimed jovially as the three of them hugged.
“Oh, my dear Hobbits, I was so worried about you,” she laughed out tearfully, pressing a kiss to each of their foreheads. After they finally pulled away, she stood up as the rest of her companions reached them. Aragorn was the first to pull her into a hug followed by Gimli patting her on the back with a gruff laugh. Finally, she turned to face Legolas. As soon as she did she was nearly crushed in one of the tightest hugs she’d ever been part of. Turns out Elves are much stronger than they look. A small smile appeared on her face as she returned the hug. A moment later they pulled away and rested their foreheads against each other’s.
“Can I speak to you? Alone?” The Prince asked softly. The girl nodded, allowing him to take her hand and lead her out of the Great Hall. They stopped in an empty hall and Legolas let go of her hand to face her. He looked troubled, which concerned her.
“Legolas, is everything okay?”
“You almost died,” he muttered softly.
“We all almost died,” the girl responded in the same tone.
“Yes, but not everyone used too much of their powers too quickly and over exhausted themselves. It was reckless and dangerous what you did,” the Elf retorted. Alphine’s eyes hardened a bit and she crossed her arms.
“Maybe you think so, but it is because of my ‘recklessness’ that the Marchwarden of Lothlorien still lives,” she said curtly. “As vain as it may sound, Haldir is still alive and Rúmil and Orophin still have a brother because of me. Lorien still has a great marchwarden because of me. And I survived as well, so there should be no reason for you to speak so rudely to me.” That gave Legolas pause, and a deep exhale left his lips. She could physically see his shoulders go slack before he spoke.
“I’m sorry,” he said, much calmer now, which surprised the girl. “I just worry about you, Alphine. We have all been through so much together thus far. I would hate to see you fall because of something like this. I did not mean to undermine you or reprimand you, so for that I apologize.” His explanation made the Witch's gaze soften, and she uncrossed her arms.
“You are forgiven. But you need to understand that I don’t do these things on a whim, I thought it out - for the most part at least. I didn’t think the spell would be that powerful,” she said, receiving a quiet chuckle.
“I hope so, you would’ve made me break my promise to you,” he half joked, which earned a smile from the girl. Alphine looked around for a moment, realizing that they were completely alone in the corridor. Perfect. She took a deep breath and looked down for a moment.
“Legolas, I-”
“Legolas, Alphine, we’re ready to leave,” Aragorn suddenly called, stepping into view.
“Alright,” the Elf responded for both of them before facing Alphine. “Can this wait until later?” The girl opened her mouth to say no, but ultimately shook her head.
“It can,” she responded with a small smile. “Let’s get out of here. I’m tired of being in Helm’s Deep.” Legolas didn’t quite look convinced, but he nodded nevertheless and followed Aragorn out. The Witch stood there for a moment, eyes on his back as he got further from her, then sighed softly. This would just have to wait.

If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not! Let’s get to know the person behind the blog ❤

It’s August, and time once again to celebrate Women in Translation (#WiT) Month! This initiative was started six years ago by blogger Meytal Radzinski with the purpose of focusing on translating words by women or nonbinary authors and working toward gender parity in literary publishing—so important to freedom of expression throughout the world. The hummingbird hero's wings beat faster and faster as he searched for a specific shade of teal. His eyes locked ono his target and he dove down, landing nearby his mentor, "Togos! Togos, I have to tell you something!" Colibri took a few breaths before continuing, "I'm going to be visiting my mother in Vienna for a few weeks! But, that means that my father will be taking over as Colibri until I'm back. Can you please be gentle with him? Pretty please?" (ask-miraculous-kugelmugel)
Togos Od laughed.
"No."
