Frame Redraw!
Tumblr media
Not seeing many people talking about it, but for me this scene was more touching.
Aziraphale's love for humans and Earth was more visible here than in episode 2 in my opinion, and I really wanted to make some art out of it. So I redrew the frame, though with some other interpretations.
Anyways, loved doing this, spiced it with some art-nouveau style.
Also I have the linearts too if you want to color it. I know, Tumblr isn't the best with HQ quality. But if you want to color it, comment and I'll add a link to reach them. ^^

And here's the fully rendered painting, with the frame too.

(Sorry I removed the beard, I couldn't stop myself. But the bowtie stays on)
(I had a strong will to paint the bebe's hair/wing color black/yellow because of the Bentley, but it reminded me too much of Castiel then)
Here's the drive file for all you lovely people who'd love to color it too!!
With PNG and PDF files too either with or without backgrounds ^^

I think tumblr ate my ask or it just didn't sent but what are your favorite Bastille songs / what are some songs you recommend?
i did NOT get this ask im very sorry anon.
it's genuinely hard for me to narrow down cause bastille is pretty up there in terms of favorite artists. i love all their shit, but a special mention goes out to their second studio album wild world since it's the one that made me a Fan
uh so here's a primer i guess i spent too much time on this lmao.
if you wanna listen to their big hits:
flaws - their first single in the uk. if you ever listened to ship playlists on 8tracks in like 2013-2015 then you've probably heard this song or a variant on it at some point.
pompeii - this is the song that really put them on the map and you definitely know it. it dominated the charts all over the place.
happier - the marshmello song that you've definitely heard before too. i think bastille wrote this for justin bieber or some shit but then decided they liked it too much to give it to him? lmao. anyway if you're not digging the version you hear on the radio all the time i recommend trying the stripped down version
good grief - their big hit off their second album. big in the uk, didn't really make as many waves elsewhere, but it's a really solid song anyway. one of those "upbeat tunes that's actually really fucking sad" ones
things we lost in the fire - another one off their first album. if you live in a wildfire area this might not be one to turn to. or maybe you'll find it cathartic idk i certainly do!!
quarter past midnight - a song about escapism, as was fitting when it was released in 2018 and equally fitting now. running away for a night of fucking around with friends, craving any kind of brief departure from the chaos of the modern world
skulls - this one was not a hit or a single and is technically a bonus track but i'm including it because once again if you ever clicked on a ship playlist on 8tracks in like 2013-2015 you've heard this one. and you know what that was justified this one is also good
if you wanna feel existentially depressed:
their whole discography. i mean i kid but i also don't. that's just kind of how bastille does it. BUT IN ALL SERIOUSNESS ones that hit me in particular would beeee
two evils - kind of a grim, haunting one introspecting about morality of the self.
oblivion - musing about the afterlife, love, and how time changes all of us.
those nights - contemplating what it is we seek when we plunge into reckless escapism, and the inherent loneliness of it; how even when surrounded by people there's still the pressure of the world outside, continuously coming to pieces
the draw - this one was written about the pull of pursuing a career in music vs. staying home with family and friends. in a broader sense, it can apply to a lot of things. i always felt it resonated with feelings of paranoia and displacement
winter of our youth - discusses childhood, nostalgia, and regret. if it feels like everything's slipping away, is it easier to relive the past, especially if the past is tinted rose?
sleepsong - loneliness, desperation, and the cyclical, abyss-like nature of all it encapsulates
if you want discussion of serious topics:
final hour - a bonus track off their second album that also became a bonus track off their third album? anyway this song talks about climate change and gun control. happy stuff
doom days - this one talks about, uh, everything! doomscrolling, political divides, escalating national tensions, climate change again, etc.
the currents - a song centered on political rhetoric and the power that figureheads have over the masses, the way they can orchestrate hate. basically it's not so subtly aimed at donald trump lmao, dan's literally sung it as much in a few live settings
WHAT YOU GONNA DO??? - social media addiction and the way capitalism and corporate interests have annexed our online experiences, fighting desperately for our attention as they seek to monetize every available aspect of our lives
four walls (the ballad of perry smith) - well this one is about uh. perry smith. who was charged with the death penalty for killing 4 people in the late 50's. but it's less directly about him and more a discussion of the morality of the death penalty and capital punishment
snakes - burgeoning anxieties and the impulse to turn to easy outs, like ignorance or alcoholism, to escape the world's global problems
if you want some pop culture sprinkled on top:
icarus - greek mythology. i like this one because it addresses something that i feel isn't addressed enough in discussions of this myth, which is that icarus is a very young lad. less about the pride of the fall, and more about the inherent tragedy of that.
laura palmer - the whole song is a david lynch shoutout. i've never seen twin peaks myself but the song still slaps.
daniel in the den - christian mythology. discusses the biblical tale of daniel in the lion's den and links that up to themes of betrayal and family.
poet - this one's a double feature, referencing both william shakespeare's sonnet 18 and edmund spencer's sonnet 75. also one of my favorites.
send them off! - this is another one of my favorites of theirs. it's also been described by dan as "othello meets the exorcist" and it very much delivers there
if you want something uplifting:
joy - while bastille (understandably) has a bit of reputation as a band that makes sad music about sad things, they've definitely got some happier songs in their catalogue. pun intended cha ching. this one's one of their more straightforwardly happy tunes
survivin' - this was a song they wrote while they were touring and then felt weird about releasing once the panini hit because it felt a bit on the nose. they ended up releasing it anyway and i am so glad they did cause it's a mood
act of kindness - the "happy" part here is debatable but i'm gonna include it anyway. it’s when someone does something nice for you and that impulse Changes you way down deep you know???
warmth - one of those "the world's going to shit but at least we have each other" kinds of tunes
the anchor - one of those "the world's going to shit but you're the one fucking thing that's still keeping me here" kinds of tunes
give me the future - their latest single as of this writing and one of the more optimistic tracks in their catalogue imo! it's yearning, but it's also with a genuine hope for the future.
and LASTLY. because im going to take every chance i can to plug this band. im going to throw some collabs and covers at you because there's one thing this band does SUPER well and it's collabs and covers.
of the night - this is the big one. it mashes up rhythm of the night by corona and rhythm is a dancer by SNAP! and it's so good they still do this one live and it goes off every time.
no angels - a mashup of "no scrubs" by TLC and "angels" by the xx, poured into a strangely mournful tune with clips from the hitchcock movie psycho. doesn't sound like it should work but it does. kinda really does.
torn apart - with GRADES and lizzo no less!!! it's got two parts but they're both excellent listen to them both
weapon - collab with angel haze, dan priddy, and F*U*G*Z and one of my absolute favorites
remains - remix of their song "skulls" but featuring rag'n'bone man and skunk anansie that adds an entire new dimension to the song, really fucking excellent
old town road mashup - lil nas x's old town road meets lizzo's good as hell meets radiohead's talk show host meets talking heads' road to nowhere meets the osmond's crazy horse. "what the fuck that shouldn't work" i KNOW and yet here it is!! BLATANTLY BANGING!!!
we can't stop - one of the few times dan smith subtly changes the lyrics of the song he's covering (most of the time he opts to keep the original pronouns and the like, which is very nice to see). anyway this one mixes miley cyrus's we can't stop with eminem's lose yourself and billy ray cyrus's achy breaky heart. and also the lion king's i just can't wait to be king is there. yes i know it sounds batshit especially because the whole thing is surprisingly melodic and heartfelt and you know what it works.
anyone but me x nightmares - mashing up joy crookes' anyone but me with easy life's nightmares and absolutely one of my favorites.
bad guy mashup - how many songs can they include with the word "bad" in the title? we've got bad guy (billie eilish), bad decisions (bastille), bad romance (lady gaga), and bad blood (taylor swift). bastille even has a song called bad blood and they didnt use it. they used taylor swift's version. also the distinctive guitar riff from dick dale's misirlou is there.
somebody mashup - how many songs can they include with the word "some" in the title? someone like you (adele), somebody told me (the killers), somebody to love (queen), use somebody (kings of leon), and someone you loved (lewis capaldi). seriously these guys take mashups to a new level.
final song - this is a cover of MØ's final song. it also adds in craig david's 7 days and, impossibly enough, europe's final countdown. how does it work. how.
ALL RIGHT. THATS ALL IVE GOT IN ME. HOPE THIS HELPED ANON AND IM SORRY IF THIS IS TOO MUCH

“A fucking summons.” You scoff before crumpling the gilded edged paper. The gold glints in the low light reminding you of it’s sender.
“Why are you even considering it?” Yoongi asks.
“I’m not, it’s a summons. I can’t exactly turn that shit down!”
“You can, you’re just scared daddy will send Jungkook after you.”
“Listen here, you didn’t grow up with that punk. So keep your trap shut or I’m demoting you, again.”
“Oh please Taehyung could never take my role. He’s too ‘peace on earth’, which reminds me, why is he here again?”
“I won’t be replacing you with Taehyung, when I’ve got sweet obedient Hobi.” You smirk at him watching his feature twist in displeasure. It was a bit of a sore spot for him to be compared to the younger because for one Hoseok was easily more approachable. You didn’t particularly favor one over the other because they were equally good at their jobs. It was just that Hoseok was kinder in a way that most demons weren’t, he was beyond good really, easily collected souls left and right without the need of hellhounds. Had gotten them to follow him on sweet words alone, he was a dream really easy on the eyes too as were Yoongi and Taehyung but not someone you were personally all that interested in.
“Do it then, see if I care.” He sniffs eyes narrowing before he leans more comfortably into the bedding. The sheets are a black silk, something he often reminds you he likes, and one of the only reasons you often spend nights here with him. The smile that tugs at your lips is loving, the affection you hold for him is new to you especially when Lilith was as soft as he was.
Yoongi didn’t like being called by his angle name, though he didn’t seem to mind it all that much when it came from you, but only from you. You’re crawling into his lap cupping his cheeks and planting one, two, no three small kisses to his pouty lips grinning softly as his skin pinkens under your affection.
“I’m only teasing you, don’t worry about it, love.” You laugh, as he moves to rest his head against your chest kissing at the tops of your breasts.
“I don’t like that joke and you know it.” He murmurs.
“I do, I’m sorry but there’s something else isn’t there?”
“I don’t like when they summon you, you always see him and I don’t like it.”
“Hmm, it’s nothing you should worry about. I’m perfectly content here.” you smile softly kissing him again before sliding off his lap. He watches you shuffle around the room, throwing a sheer robe over your form if only to spare the lives of those who should lose their eyes for incurring Yoongi’s wrath. You have no shame, but why would you? A once celestial being is nothing if not perfect unless of course they were you. Lucifer they had named you, but the bibles of man had gotten it wrong, you were no man, but more woman than any other Yoongi had ever laid eyes on.
He’d once been married to Adam way before that whore Eve came about but he’d never been this happy. You didn't try to smother his naturally curious nature, hadn’t even batted any lashes when he’d questioned you in the so-called order of the world. It was oddly freeing, but so utterly overwhelming because you nurtured his curiosity. Had been more than happy to answer any of his questions, and had been even happier when he’d asked if it were possible to stay in hell indefinitely. But when he’d finally learned of the tale behind you being cast out of heaven he’d been angry, but you with your gentle tone and touch had quelled that anger reminding him that it wasn't worth his anger. After all your banishment had led him to you in the end and for that he was thankful.
“So will you go? To the meeting that is.”
“I will, but only to appease the old man. This’ll be the last, I’ll make sure of it.” you sigh finally deciding to get dressed, the quicker you go meet him the quicker you can officially cut ties with heaven.
*
The car pulls up to a building in the middle of the city that towers high above most of the others, and you can't help but grimace just thinking about entering it. Your driver Johnny peeks at you in the rearview mirror, a small hesitant smile tilting his lips.
“We’re here ma’am.”
“I know, I just need a moment.” you breathe, taking in deep breaths to settle the nervous beat of your heart.
“Perhaps it would’ve been better had the queen accompanied you?” he says still eyeing you through the mirror.
“No, the queen has more important things to attend to than this.” you laugh thinking of how annoyed Yoongi had been that you had explicitly told him to stay behind. Stupid summons, you think shooting Johnny a smile before sliding out of the car.
“Should I wait for you?”
“No, you should head on home, I pray that it’ll be quick.” you close the door behind you hearing the click, click of your heels against the pavement, then on the white marble of the floors in the building. Lisa sits at the receptionist desk, a gaudy thing that takes up entirely too much space. To the left is a fountain, it’s plain in design something you don't think about too much because who needed a fountain in the middle of a reception area. The elevators are to the left and just beyond that is a bar one that had been your home a long time ago.
“____!” Lisa nearly screams catching your attention as you wrangle your thoughts and pasting a warm smile onto your features. Though you had been essentially exiled from your home many of the angels who remained in heaven were still near and dear to your heart.
“Hey, it’s been a while.”
“It has, we should really catch up sometime. I know some of the others have been wanting to see you again! Did you have an appointment?” she asks quickly typing away at her keyboard and never breaking contact.
“Actually I do, I’m supposed to be meeting Jin.” you say through a tight smile, one that doesn't quite meet your eyes. She nods her head enthusiastically, gaze darting to her screen before meeting yours again.
“Oh that’s nice, he has mentioned how much he’s missed you lately. You really should come to the holiday get togethers, do you get the invitations?”
“I see, maybe they got lost? Can I go up or?”
“Maybe, if you leave your address I’ll make sure you get the next one. Actually I’ve just gotten a notice that someone will be escorting you, they should be here right about now.” she finishes as the elevator dings. It draws your attention easily as your gaze falls onto Jungkook who looks more like a man and less like the boy you left behind when exiled. His hair is longer now falling over his eyes curling inward, his suit is black a crisp white collared shirt tucked into his slacks, he’s missing a tie but he still looks good. The smile that splits his features is blinding, as you feel your own lips pull upward as he easily closes the distance wrapping you up in his arms. The hug is warm, a little too tight but still lovingly comfortable just like a hug from your little brother had always been. Except he’s firm where he used to be soft, his cheeks still hold a bit of their pudgy roundness, and his eyes still glitter like fallen stars, Jungkook has matured into a dashing young man.
“It’s nice to finally see you again.” he murmurs.
“You too Kook, Yoongi would love to have you over again.” you beam, playfully swatting at his bicep. “When did my baby brother grow into this? I almost didn't recognize you.”
“It took some time and a lot of work.”
“Oh, a girl?” he laughs motioning towards the elevator.
“No, I just have a lot of free time when I’m not working. It’s kinda hard being an archangel when you aren’t being a menace.”
“I’m married now, I don't have time to act like a petulant child anymore I do rule a kingdom after all.”
“Hmm, that sounds like something Yoongi would say. The ____ I grew up with started a whole rebellion, not just once either. My, my, my, the king of hell has gotten soft after marriage.” he smirks down at you as you huff lips parting to reply when the elevator finally arrives.
“M’not soft, I just don't have the time. Souls come in left and right, my kingdom isn't all torture and eternal damnation as they would have you believe.”
“I know, I just think it would be fun.” The rest of the ride up is quiet, but comfortable with no annoying elevator music to fill the silence, just the soft shallow sound of your breathing. You want to apologize to Jungkook, and not for the first time because when you were exiled he’d been left alone. Half his friends had gone with you and Namjoon had taken up the task of helping Jin clean up the mess you’d made. You just never know how to start, never know whether your words will mend his wounds or just further hurt him. Sadly you don't get the chance as the elevator comes to a halt with a ding, the doors slide open to an empty room just as white and blinding as the reception area.
“This is where you get off, I’ll make sure to visit Yoongi soon.” he chuckles, gently shoving you to get your feet moving.
You watch the doors slide shut on your brother, your heart aches when you think of how much he has grown in your absence. A knot forms in your throat, as you struggle to hold in the sob that threatens to slip past your lips.
“Surely you aren’t crying Luci.” Jimin laughs. The tone is light, playful even but the words wash over like a cold spray of sea water in the winter. Anger springs forth, spreading through your being at his overly friendly tone, the blatant disrespect he has for you, a king.
“Are we friends?” you ask voice even, mirroring his playful tone but lacking any warmth.
“I would think so. C’mon Luci, it’s been ages since I’ve last seen you, lighten up will you. Congratulations on your marriage, what was his name now? Lilith I think.”
“And it would be longer had God not summoned me, and how dare you speak my husband's name!” you spit, irises blazing with restrained energy.
“Luci, really we’re friends, more than friends even, we were lov-”
“ENOUGH!” you seethe, the heat of your skin is uncomfortable, a reminder that you aren’t in hell and though your power in Heaven is still astounding it’s nowhere near the level it would be in your kingdom.
“I was about to say the same.” Jin chimes, a soft almost loving smile kissing his lips. His gaze settles you, a sense of calm washing over you licking away the heat that had once wrapped around your form like a vice.
“____, my sweet ____, how I’ve missed you.” Jin whispers as he wraps you in a hug that reminds you of Jungkook’s. You can feel your body begin to sag against his, something that is alarming in itself because there are others in the room.
“Hello father, it’s been a while.” you say robotically.
“It has, how have you been?”
“Fine, everything is fine. Why did you summon me?” you ask skirting past the normal pleasantries.
“Well Jimin is the one who wanted to see you, I was planning a visit to Hell soon either way.” he smiles down at you kissing your forehead the way only a father does and leaving you and Jimin alone.
“How dare you?” you ask once you’re certain Jin can no longer hear you.
“Is it really hard to believe that I wanted to see you again?”
“Yes, because it's all your fault. I was exiled because of you.”
“It was for the greater good.”
“I trusted you, you were the one who started the rebellion. You were the one who gained followers, and I was one of them. I was willing to help you overthrow my father, because you were right, why should we bow to humans they are nothing. Do you know what their greatest gift is?”
“Not this again.”
“Free will, my father gave them free will so that they could forge their own paths but still punishes them for their choices. That wasn’t a gift, it was a curse, and I rule over them, over the souls of those unworthy of heaven. All because you got caught and put all the blame on me like some coward. No, not some coward, like the coward I knew you were but I was too blind, too in love to look past. Don’t you understand my life after exile is better than it was when I was an angel.”
“Better, you’re kingdom is nothing but misery. A kingdom of worthless souls damned to eternal suffering, how is that better than here?” he scoffs brow furrowed at just how laughable that sounded.
“My kingdom is flourishing under my rule, my queen takes great part in it’s betterment. Without him, we wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are now nor would I be the king I am today. What have you got to show for your betrayal besides a fancy rank? Gabriel was an archangel from birth, you were not.” you laugh feeling a prickle of heat at your fingertips.
“I would tread lightly ____, you’re kingdom could easily fall to ruin.” he mocks a smirk tilting his lips.
“That almost sounds like a threat.”
“And so what if it is. Heaven would crush your pathetic kingdom, you should be afraid. Your father still cares for you, even with your exile as does Gabriel but an archangel of my status doesn't need his approval to defend heaven.”
“I may not have started the rebellion all those years ago, but I have learned from my mistakes. I fear nothing, if you are seeking a war then a war you shall have but my kingdom, nor my people will lose. I will be the victor, and when it is all over, you will regret having betrayed me; because I am stronger than you will ever be.”

Jean-Michel Basquiat's art reconstituted the world around him, says Boom for Real curator
The curator of a new Barbican exhibition on Jean-Michel Basquiat has selected five key works that show how the late American artist drew on a vast range of design influences – including comic books, sweet wrappers and illustrations from Gray's Anatomy.
The exhibition titled Basquiat: Boom for Real brings together more than 100 artworks by the New York graffiti-artist-turned-painter, and is the first large-scale exhibition of his work in the UK.
Works included range from Basquiat's early graffiti work in the late 1970s under the pseudonym SAMO© – an abbreviation of "same old, same old shit" – to his collaborations with with high-profile artists like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.
Speaking to Dezeen, assistant curator Lotte Johnson said that you can find direct connections between Basquiat's early work and everyday product designs, such as sweet wrappers and train tickets.
"He was constantly absorbing influences and references from the world around him," she told Dezeen.
"Some of his earliest works are these amazing collages he made with artist Jennifer Stein that take materials from around the studio and off the street, and paste them onto pieces of paper and photocopy them."
In these collages, Basquiat and Stein would take PEZ sweet wrappers, cut out the letters and rearrange them.
"They were taking graphic design – the kind of symbols and signs they saw in the world around them – and reconstituting them," said Johnson.
Later work would include intricate allusions to iconography found in Egyptian mythology and African rock art, as well as direct references to pictorial texts such as Black Beauty, White Heat: A Pictorial History of Classic Jazz 1920-1950 and Gray's Anatomy.
"He was literally lifting elements from books and translating elements into his works," Johnson explained.
"For example, we know that Basquiat was fascinated by anatomy, he drew anatomical studies from many of his paintings and drawings – the book by Leonardo da Vinci and Gray's Anatomy."
Despite his relatively short career – Basquiat was just 27 when he died in 1988 – Johnson said Basquiat had "a huge impact on contemporary practitioners".
"It is in his incredible speed of execution that the graphic representation of his work plays out," she added. "His use of symbols and signs in this incredibly dense network – this amazing clarity has had a great influence on designers."
Basquiat: Boom for Real is on show at London's Barbican until 28 January 2018.
Exhibition photography is by Tristan Fewings/Getty Images.
Below, Johnson writes about five key projects featured in the exhibition:
Untitled, 1981 Mugrabi Collection
In 1981, Basquiat was included in the exhibition New York/New Wave at PS1 in New York – a show that featured over 100 artists, musicians and writers. Basquiat was the only artist in this exhibition to be given a prominent platform to show painting. One of the pieces he included was Untitled, made when he was just 20 years old.
The work is dominated by three striking heads, their simplified delineated outlines reminiscent of the heads that had appeared in his SAMO© tags, which he spray-painted around the streets of New York.
Variations on the name Aaron are also scrawled several times on the painting. Basquiat occasionally used Aaron as a pseudonym, which is likely a reference to Hank Aaron, the celebrated baseball player, as well as Moses' brother Aaron, who helped free the Israelites from Egypt.
The scattered letters A and O, which also persistently appear in many of Basquiat's works, could provide a further biblical reference to "Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end".
Beat Bop record cover, Tartown Records, 1983
Basquiat designed the front and back cover for Beat Bop, a hip-hop single by American rappers Rammellzee and K-Rob and produced by Basquiat himself. Released on one-time label Tartown Records, it has an abstract sound. The syncopation of the record is reflected in Basquiat's design for the cover, which is characteristic of his drawings from the period.
There are cartoon references – the phrase "bang" with lines and circles coming out of it – that really connect to cartoons and slapstick comedy, like Pop Eye and Crazy Cat.
The crown motif visible here has become iconic for Basquiat's practice. One reference that we often bring to light is that in jazz tradition, jazz legends would be given monarchical titles. There is also a legacy in graffiti, where graffiti artists would crown each other's work to ascribe status.
Basquiat would often use the crown in the context of the history of African American people in history and contemporary society too. It would then be associated with great black figures he admired, to place them back in a canon and to give them status.
King Zulu, 1986 MACBA Collection, Government of Catalonia long-term loan, formerly Salvador Riera Collection
Music in particular had a great influence on Basquiat's practice. He listened to everything, from Donna Summer to Bach, though his paintings are mostly dominated by the history of black jazz musicians.
He had a collection of over 3,000 records and he would rarely work without something playing in his studio. Several books on the subject of jazz became frequent reference points. The fragments in this work, King Zulu, were sourced from the 1982 book Black Beauty, White Heat by Frank Driggs and Harris Lewine.
The title of the painting – inscribed beneath the grinning mask – relates to Louis Armstrong, who was crowned King Zulu at the Mardi Gras parade in 1949. While Armstrong deemed it a great honour, Basquiat treats the exaggerated blackface costume with a certain ambivalence.
Jesse, 1983 Courtesy of John McEnroe Gallery
This remarkable work is a direct homage to Jesse Owens, the celebrated black athlete who won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. His physical strength is gestured to in the many collaged anatomical drawings pasted onto the canvas.
This iteration of the Olympics was used by Hitler to promote his ideas of racial supremacy, referenced in the Nazi swastikas that appear next to Jesse Owens' name in the painting.
Owens defied Hitler's attempted propaganda however by setting extraordinary world records, and his incredible talent is echoed in the multiple references to Superman that appear across the canvas. These include the words "Action Comics" – the comic book series that introduced the superhero.
Ishtar, 1983 Collection Ludwig, Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen
Basquiat named this monumental triptych after Ishtar, the Egyptian goddess of fertility and war. He was fascinated by mythology, as evidenced by the repeated name of the goddess written on the painting.
Underneath the vivid painted sections of the work, it is evident that the background of the work is pasted with photocopied drawings, a technique that Basquiat was using in many of his paintings at this time.
In the upper left corner, a small drawing of a pig is visible, with a list that appears to have been copied from Harold Bayley's 1912 book The Lost Language of Symbolism, which we know Basquiat owned. This is just one example of how Basquiat's works were so rich in their source materials and in their encyclopaedic range of reference points.
