OUGH its been weeks and i still get upset looking at that one guga panel. im much happier with how she turned out in the rewrite but she still deserves better 😔

Just wanted to let you know that during the class trial, at the portion where you have to refute Honoka and prove Gugalanna couldn't have attacked Ping, the Puddle of Bleach evidence item seems to actually be the Piece of Paper evidence item. It's mislabeled.

this is a solid post i just have a few addendums:

if you’re being forced to fight a dreadnought cast member under penalty of death then aoi is a good choice since they can patch themselves up and if you explain the situation they’ll be understanding

if you tell ishi you want to fight her she’s 100% ready to throw down just for fun. guga is too but getting in a fight with her is much more hazardous to your health

sal is easy to beat up in the moment but he has the connections to summon an elite team of special agents from major intelligence services across the globe to track you down and wipe your existence from written record. ur playin a dangerous game

So we were playing that lip-reading game last night where one of you gets a card with a sentence or phrase to read and the other has to put on voice-cancelling headphones and try to guess what the person is saying. So everyone’s having fun, then it’s finally my turn with the headphones. I manage to guess all but one word, but I can’t figure it out. The timer buzzes, and I finally get to look at the phrase in question.

What did you use to make the execution music OoO

IM GLAD PPL LIKED THE MUSIC….. it was a lot of fun to work on and im excited to write some more!!

i used LMMS to sequence out all the music (i used mostly instruments that came with the program but i found out about loopcloud a couple weeks ago and i’m definitely gonna use some loops and samples from there in the future!)

and audacity to add the sound effects in and mix in bits from the end of the dr1 ch1 execution theme and a recording of sing sing sing by benny goodman!

[CHAPTER 1 - 026]

No language that I know can truly describe what I felt-- what we all felt-- as we watched Honoka and Ishi suffer through MONO-9000's handcrafted hell on a glitzy billboard-sized TV. Horror, terror, tragedy, heartbreak... All these words sound laughable in comparison to helplessly watching your newfound friend's blood soak a broken stage because she dared to try and keep you alive.

Despair... Maybe that's the word?

None of us could tear our eyes from the screen, even after the video feed shut off. The room fell oppressively silent, except for the occasional stifled sob from Jurou or Vasundhara. Even Tiffani's face looked green.

How long we stood frozen there, I'm not sure-- could've been seconds, could've been hours. But eventually the spell was broken by, of all people... Kapono?

"Tim... you... saw that. Didn't you?" His murmur was quiet but resolute.

I nodded slowly. So I hadn't been imagining things. You see, right as Honoka was being dragged off by the chains, and Ishi clung to the edge of the trapdoor in a last ditch effort to save her... 

A silver blur, a spurt of blood, and MONO-9000 gleefully waving goodbye as they tumbled into the darkness.

I had to say something. Even if curling up on the floor (as Nikola was doing right now) sounded much more appealing, I couldn't give up now. There was nothing we could do to save Honoka... but maybe we didn't have to lose both of them. I owed it to Ishi to try.

My fingers dug into the edge of the podium as I lifted my head just enough to meet MONO-9000's burning gaze.

"...You broke the rules."

"Hmm? What was that? Must be something in my ear--"

Oh, he is not gonna pull this bullshit right now.

"I said, you broke your own goddamned rules! You pushed her in!!"

"Well yeah, it's not like Honoka would willingly jump to her death or anything--"

"You know who the hell I'm talking about!! She was hanging right on the edge and you fucking SLASHED HER FINGERS! I saw the blood!! And you did too, right, Kapono? Sal?"

"Yeah!"

"Sure did."

I hadn’t meant to lash out quite that harshly, but... look, don’t tell me you wouldn’t have done the same thing in my shoes. And it seemed to be working-- people were getting angry.

"Wh-- He did WHAT?!"

"Holy shit, I thought something looked screwy!"

"God this just keeps getting worse and worse--"

As the accusations and fury built towards a riot, MONO-9000 had the nerve to act like he hadn't meant to send my best friend falling 5 stories into the execution chamber.

"Th-that was... uh... totally an accident! Right! Accident--"

"Don't fucking lie to me, sweetheart," Salvatore snarled. "Would someone kindly read off part 5 of the killing game rules as established and enforced by MONO-9000 himself?"

Riko was the first to whip out her ElectroID.

"'The captain may not interfere with students that remain in unrestricted areas and follow the other rules...'"

"...W-wait, but she never... Th-this isn’t a restricted area, right? We’re all here!”

“She didn’t attack MONO-9000, she didn’t vandalize anything, and the rest don’t matter at all right now...”

"See? She didn't do anything wrong! She was just trying to save Honoka!"

Our persistence was paying off-- MONO-9000′s movements grew genuinely frantic as he continued to bluster.

"I-it was preemptive self-defense! She's attacked me before, you know--"

"She was too busy trying to not fucking die, asshole! Just say you wanted to get rid of her!!"

“Whatever happened to that bullshit spiel about scientific integrity...?”

"You can't just break your own fucking rules if you're expecting anyone else to play by them."

"This is a new low, even for you, Herr Robot..."

"..." I couldn’t make out much of what Yusra was mumbling to herself, but I thought I heard ‘robots’ and ‘rules’ in there somewhere...

"Shit-- Fine! Fine! I'll fix her up so you can kill her properly next time, now will you quit your bitching?!"

MONO-9000 disappeared in a panicked blur, as he tended to do whenever any of us had important questions.

"...Fix her? But she's-- she's--"

"Now is... probably not a good time to question that."

"D-do y’all really think he can..."

"...Don't know..."

"...All we can do is pray that we have not lost three souls in the span of a day."

Siegfried and his blunt way with words brought the horror of the situation crashing down on us once again. It was good to keep things realistic, probably... but god, did it hurt. Gugalanna was dead. Honoka was dead. Ishi was... was...

"Three... Holy fuck."

"Wh-why is this happening...?"

Vasundhara’s whimper sounded even tinier in the silence that followed.

"..."

"..."

"..."

None of us had an answer for her.

The elevator whirred back into place, shining a cold, clinical light on the trial chamber. Nikola was the first to move, dashing out of the room like a frightened squirrel as soon as the doors opened, desperate to escape the creeping dark. But we found, as we followed him with downtrodden hearts, that the darkness wouldn't leave us.

Of course it wouldn't-- people were dead. Real people, with lives and loved ones, killing and being killed at the whim of some bloodthirsty heap of metal. The sheer absurdity almost would have made me laugh... if it wasn't all so horrifically, tangibly real.

As it was, all I could do was trudge back to my dorm, crawl into bed, and hope against all odds that this was just some twisted fever dream.

Unfortunately, my luck's never been that good. In fact, barely a week later... things would grow worse than I could ever imagine.

hello!! it was definitely music first on this one, as soon as i knew who was gonna be the first killer i knew pretty much exactly what i wanted the music to sound like LMFAO (i mean cmon a dance break in the middle of an execution track?? i Gotta)

i had rough “choreography” in my head as i was writing out the music and adding in sound effects, but for the most part i laid out the comic afterwards to match the rhythm and pacing of the music! i had to redo the page thumbnails several times to get it to feel right, mostly spreading out the panels during the tempo increase to try to force the reader to scroll faster as the music got faster (i started with 8 total pages and wound up with 10 sdjklfsj)

i might go the other way around for ch2 though and match the music to a comic layout, since i have an idea of what i want to happen but no idea what i want the music to sound like yet! im curious to see if that’s gonna be easier or harder than the way i did it this chapter
