Herald Square Neighborhood (No. 2)

The area around Herald Square along Broadway and 34th Street is a retail hub. The most notable attraction is the Macy's Herald Square, the flagship department store for Macy's and the largest in the United States. In 2007, Macy's, Inc. moved its corporate headquarters to that store after renaming from Federated. Macy's archrival Gimbels was also located in the neighborhood until 1984; in 1986 the building became the Manhattan Mall. Other past retailers in the area included E.J. Korvette, Stern's, and Abraham & Straus. J.C. Penney opened its first Manhattan flagship store in August 2009 at the former A&S location inside the Manhattan Mall. The square is roughly equidistant between Madison Square to the south, and Times Square to the north. Herald Square's south side borders Koreatown, at West 32nd Street.

Since 1992, Herald and Greeley Squares have been cared for by the 34th Street Partnership, a Business Improvement District (BID) operating over 31 blocks in midtown Manhattan. The 34SP provides sanitary and security services, maintains a horticultural program that includes trees, gardens, and planters, and produces events, product launches, and photo shoots. 34SP also added movable chairs, tables, and umbrellas, to the parks. In 1999, the parks were completely renovated by 34SP. Since 2008, each park has had a food kiosk operated by 'wichcraft, the highly regarded sandwich, soup, and salad purveyor owned by Tom Colicchio of Top Chef fame. In 2009, 34SP converted the parks' Automated Pay Toilets into free public facilities, a rarity in New York City.

With the introduction of "Broadway Boulevard", a 2009 project by the New York City Department of Transportation to increase pedestrian space on the segment of Broadway between 35th and 42nd Streets, the passive space provided by Herald and Greeley Squares more than doubled, radically changing the character of the area. The two blocks of Broadway between 33rd and 35th Streets were completely closed to vehicular traffic, and were made pedestrian-only with bike lanes. The parks' operators, 34SP, filled the newly pedestrianized space with chairs, tables, umbrellas, and free public programs such as chess tables, dance lessons, and exercise classes.As of April 2013, the boulevard had been redesigned. Because of the popularity of the pedestrian plaza and bike lanes in Herald and Greeley Squares, the plaza was redesigned again in 2019. Another block of Broadway between 32nd and 33rd Street was shut to vehicular and bike traffic, while 33rd Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue was reopened, and the bike lane through Greeley Square was relocated from Broadway to Sixth Avenue.

Numerous songs refer to Herald Square, such as: George M. Cohan's song, "Give My Regards to Broadway" (1904), which includes the lyrics "remember me to Herald Square"; Andrew B. Sterling and Harry Von Tilzer's song, "Take Me Back to New York Town" (1907); Billy Joel's song, "Rosalinda's Eyes" (1978); and Freedy Johnston's song "Bad Reputation" (1994).

Herald Square is the terminus for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, broadcast nationally by NBC-TV.

KOGI STATE GOVERNOR,YAHAYA BELLO ANNOUNCES FOR PRESIDENT

Yahaya Bello,the governor of Kogi state,has openly announced to run for the office of Nigerian president in 2023,under the All progressive Congress (A.P.C) party.The governor,made the announcement at the eagles sqaure in Abuja,on Saturday,and promised to make 20million Nigeria, millionaires by 2023.

Several dignitaries, were present at the event, including Deputy speaker of house of reprsentative ,Idris Wase,Kogi state deputy governor,Edward Onoja,former Aviation minister,Femi fani-Kayode,among others.

Hafsat Abiola- Costello, daughter of late Moshood Abiola-,is to lead the governor's presidential campaign,as its Director General (D.G).Also,the former Senate Deputy leader, Jonathan Zwingina has been named,the national coordinator of the Yahaya Bello presidential campaign.

Bello,said the 2023 presidential election is about the survival of Nigeria,He further said that ,he would set-up the legacy of president Muhammadu Buhari.The governor,said "I, will be running other broad political philosophy of progressive activism through social action,and political reforms.We are so blessed,as a nation but yet he doesn't always seem so."I am running,to restore hope by providing security,unity and progress to all Nigerians."Our focus will be,proper management of our great diversity ,so that it can really be an advantage"

He, further said,that the present administration,has contributed to the nation's national security,say "The war against security maybe taking longer, than earlier expected but President Muhammadu Buhari,has ensured that we have the resources to over come the challenges".

The governor, continuing said,I am running for president because,I see a bright light shinning at the end of the tunnel for our nation.I am not one of those, who only see doom and glue.Its my intention,to take custody of that light to pierce the dark spot in our past and present by eliminating every gap in our nationhood and to fix them ."I will ensure that the light is handed over in due course to successors who will be trustworthy of our great future which the Federal Government led by me will build.

The , governor said Nigeria next president must possess,an excellent record in successfully managing diversity,saying his administration has been able to take a polarised Kogi and build it into a State that is both diverse and inclusive.He assured that if elected,he would never tolerate non- state actors who take up arms against the country.

According to a report in BBC in February 13,2022 ,over 100million Nigerians live in abject poverty during the People's Democratic Party (P.D.P) regime. In 2018,with APC in power, the figure dropped to 87million people yet, Nigeria overtook India as the poverty capital of the world.This,month Nigeria through the effort of the president relinquish the title back to India and brought the figure to about 70million people.

"It is therefore clear, that our path to national prosperity lies in pulling millions of Nigerians out of poverty."Buhari target is to lift 100milion Nigerians out of poverty by the year 2030,Yahaya Bello administration has an additional target of creating 20miliionaires by the same 2030 with the aim that each of them will empower other citizens.

Richard stepped down the stairs quietly. Not alone this morning well it was kind of hard to ever be all alone thinking about it now. he always had someone with him. Either Bailey trying to sneak in a long time for cuddling in bed or more. Richard smirked to himself with the thought of what more actually stood for. As he slightly trotted down the stairs minding his step so he wouldn't step on any paws from who was joining him on his trip down. The other likely candaite for who Richard spent his mornings with was, Buddy. Who often would wake early as well either joining him for morning walks or making coffee together but he was up just a bit before them as well.

No, right now he was joined by his other children. He didn't have to say it out loud for it to be obvious how much he loved all four of them. Just had to keep it under warps or else Bailey may actually convince him to adopt enough cats to fill every last sqaur inch of the house. Richard was content with the three balls of fur walk along side him as they join him on his way to the kitchen, and the one he was carrying. Richard had a feeling he knew what they wanted when they had decided to follow him this morning.

They were looking to be getting one of thier cattccino that has become a favorite of theirs. Clearly because Richard made them the best way, far better then Starducks little pet drinks. He could easily scoof over the simple cup filled with whip creme. His family pets would get far better clearly. And well it had been a bit, as in a day since they last had one. Richard justified it by stating their newest kitten Biscotti, hasn't had one either so it was only fair to let them try as well. That same kitten happened to be getting carried by Richard. They were so small in his arm that it was easy to just hold on to them in one arm well he grabbed all he needed with the free one.

Soon he did set them down to join Mocha, Carmel, and Toffee on the floor as they were all being good and patient for thier treat. Bailey should take a page from thier book. Richard softly hummed to himself as he went about getting each cup set up making sure each cat drink was done at the same time well went ahead and added an extra touch of garnishing the drinks each with a few pieces of thier treats, just to make them a little more special today. As he went to set the cups down in front of each one of them. "I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way" singing out to the group of cats in front of him as he turned around to see them, bending down setting down each cup.

Richard was smiling as he watched the cats go and move up to the cups to take their first taste of thier own morning pick me up. When he looked up he did catch sight of Buddy standing outside the kitchen. Richard paused as he offered a smile. "Oh morning Mijo how long have you been standing there?"

Buddy shrugged not too sure as they walked in happily when seeing Richard hadn't made thier coffee just yet. Saying not long they got up and wanted to see if he was in the kitchen yet, pausing by thier fur siblings to give them a greeting as they mentioned they then heard him singing and followed to the kitchen. To see if they could make coffee together. Richard's face was slightly tinting red when Buddy pointed out they heard him singing. It wasn't so much because he had sung. Buddy has heard him 'sing' before. 'Sing' being a nice way to use that word because Richard didn't exactly sing. Sure he wasn't like Bailey but he could at least carry enough of a tune for a lullaby to his son or a littel serenade to his husband.

No, the fact he was caught singing alone wouldn't matter much not compared to well that it was the fact Buddy had caught Richard singing to the cats just now that more made the bit of embarrassment come over the eagle. "So you heard me uh?" he asked again, Buddy nodded "singing" once more they nodded seeming confused by the line of questions they were getting "to them?" Richard asked as he gestured to the cats in front of him happily busy and uncaring about this conversation themselves. Once more Buddy answered, offering a yes this time in case the nodding wasn't getting thier answers come across well enough. Richard reached up to slightly fiddle with the tuft of feathers on his cheek as he felt his face warm slightly.

Buddy asked walking over to Richard now looking a bit worried, as they reached up to try and feel Richard's face for a fever. Only for Richard to shake his head. "Papá is fine" he said slightly breathing out a laugh at the little egeals worries. Dissmissig his slight embrassement over getting caught singing to the cats just now. Eyeing over to the counter where he still had one last cup sitting to be server. He glanced back to the cats Biscotti hadn'tbeen servered still and seem curious what the other were enjoying. Meaning Richard had a distraction now.

Reaching back to the counter for the last cup "Here Biscotti has gotten theirs yet wanna do the honors?" Buddy smiled and carefully took the cup from Richard's hands. Richard watched as Buddy was carful to set the cup down for Biscotti now. The little eagle clearly curious themself as they sniffed at it before giving it a taste. That seemed fitting since Bailey conned Richard into agreeing to adopting them by claiming they would be the "Buddy" of the cat family in thier home. "Would you like me to teach you how to make that as well so you may give Bisscotti some?" Richard offered and son he had Buddy's attention again. As they whipped around and moved over to Richard eagelry agreeing so they could make the special treat as well. Richard just chuckled a bit and placed his hand on top of Buddy's head so he could tossle thier hair a little. adding to the bit of bed head they were already sporting around. "Alright Im sure they were good enough for a second severing today then." Richard went to stand up as he let out a yawn now he had been awake for about an hour and a half and still had yet to even seeing a coffee bean. If he went any longer his headache would be killing him or he would pass out in the kitchen. "Let's get some coffee going first, what do you feel like today? I'll let you pick and well make that drink." Richard offer as he pulled over the chair they would need to stand in then reached down to pluck his son up of the floor watching how thier little brow furrowed up in thought over the many options. Before making thier choice. Cappcinos for them and cattcinos for thier siblings, seemed like a fine choice. "Alright Mijo seems fitting to me then" going to get the coffee beans, to sneak a 'taste' first when Buddy turned to Richard a softly 'um' to get his attention. Only to return that blush to Richard's face when Buddy mentioned they liked when Richard sang too. This family was going to kill him he swears.
