Fanart for @baconcolacan! Based on his ao3 fic Regimen!
I've already openly discussed how much i love his fic! Go check it out if u have the time (though i highly suggest checking out the warnings and whats it about before jumping into it)
This isnt usually my art style, but i tried to adjust to the semi-realistic way Neil makes them, and it was fun! :] (Had a bit of a stroke learning how to post here, hope im doing this right)
I did read it. There was a lot of hype surrounding it when it was first announced, probably because we as a fandom were collectively starved for any new eddsworld content for so long.
It started out fine, and then it became a shitshow both in and behind the scenes. Disregarding all the awful stuff the creators did however, the comic itself is honestly kinda bland. It's been, what? Six? Seven chapters in the last five years and the plot hasn't moved an inch as far as I am aware. That's just bad storytelling, and it's not because it is slow paced. Regimen by DeanDaniel is slow paced too to get to the actual "meat" of the story but something always happens in each chapter until then, so that's no excuse. I don't know any of the characters motivations either, which I guess would explain why the plot is lacking. If the characters don't know what they are meant to be doing, then how are we supposed to care when something actually happens?
And it's such a shame to see so much potential being squandered. The creators could have had so much fun making the characters work off each other, give us some dynamics we hadn't seen before (I check up on the comic every now and again, and I admit I enjoyed watching Matt be friends with Paul and Pat) and you know, incorporate some headcanons into the mix to give the story some spice while we wait on the plot to build; cause it seems to be purposefully slow paced and has to be building up to something (hopefully). But I have the sneaking suspicion that the creators are so proud to be canon compliant and "accurate" that they rather be faithful and closer to considered as actual canon, than actually telling an engaging story.
That's just my two cents anyway. Sorry for the long rant. If you like the comic, good for you, I won't shame anyone who genuinely enjoys it and you do you. Also, just in case I didn't make it clear; I do not support the creators in any way, shape, or form.
An art collab with @eliotheidiot for the wonderful fanfic Regimen by @kingtrash-dan. Here we have two points of view one being Tom’s (by eliot) and second being Pat’s (by i).
You just drove me into madness. Currently reading chapter 14 of Regimen, heck I've only been reading it for a day and a half and I'm already emotionally invested in it.
AS YOU SHOULD BE, THE FIC IS AMAZING. ONE OF THE BEST OUT THERE FOR THIS FANDOM
Please dont kill me for this. This is before they even met and is more army based. Tord's army has spread out and taken many cities and towns. This will be broad but i hope it gets my idea across.
Tord's army already took over the gang's home town and was recruiting new soldiers. Matt and Edd already knew each other from school when they were drafted. Tom is alread a recruit and just finished training while being the top soldier in his regimen. Tom was a skilled gunman and he already knew how to use a tank. Tom's supervisor, Paul, saw his potential and requested he be sent up to the front lines with Tord, who immediately took a liking to him. Meanwhile, Edd and Matt get seperated for a while when Edd doesnt pass the medical exam. Matt does well in his spy training while Edd gets retested.
After a couple months, Edd and Matt work together. Edd as a techie who wakes sure Matt's missions always end up successful by giving his advise and stratagy ideas.
Tom is now Tord's right hand man and Tord keeps him very close. The other army is getting stronger and gaining allies so Tord conducts a secret experemint using Tom as his test subject. The plan was to create a super soldier using different radioactive procedures, one went wrong, leading to monster Tom.
Tom has always been obedient, save his back talk. He was sent into a cage to see his progress with the experemint. He randomly and painfully changed the first few times, but after a couple months, could keep it together unless if upset/angry. Tord, although actually feeling sorry for what he did to Tom, makes him continue with the tests. Once finished Tom can pretty much control himself and continues to be by Tord's side.
Edd, who sees what he did to Tom, decides to grab Matt and tries to flee from the army. They get pretty far but is traked down anyways by Tom, who lets them go after showing him genuine kindness. He returns to Tord but is more hesitant to follow orders.
Tord doesnt like it and becomes agressive towards Tom. He gets punished for letting them escape and every time he denies Tord's request, he has to answer to Tord. Edd and Matt already got their way across the world and are trying to take down Tord's army by any means.
Present day and Tom is still under Tord's control. Matt and Edd want to free him but does Tom really want to leave Tord?
