Week One: Introduction!
@encanto-extended-edition
OMG how have I never done a proper introduction of my girl??? Anyways…
Full name: Angela Leilani Yaamil Morales Estrada
Age at the time of the movie: 48 years old (December 8th, 1901)
Angel was initially a name holder for the reader insert in my fic, “Why did it have to be me?” She was never intended to become a full fledged OC, but thanks to several supportive friends, Angela evolved into what she is now.
Angela is born to parents Guillermo and Anamaria in 1901, and shortly after childbirth, Anamaria sadly passes away, leaving Angela to be raised primarily by Anamaria’s parents, Quinuama and Raymundo. She is the youngest of six cousins on her maternal side, and she knows very little about her father’s extended family. The passing of Anamaria puts Guillermo in an inconsolable depression, leaving his daughter to be brought up by her grandparents due to his emotional absence. Her family owns and runs a tailoring shop in the Encanto, renowned for their fine fiber arts and beautifully crafted clothes. Angela is best known for her impressive bead work and crocheting, as she enjoys fixating on tiny details.
At age five, she befriends the Madrigal triplets, the four of them becoming close companions, but especially between Angela and Bruno. The two of them grow close over the years, considering the other to be their best friend. I’ll save the juicy details of their companionship for Week two, but to summarize, their friendship takes a dramatic twist following the breakup of Angela and her fiancé when she is 19.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, she joins the church choir at a young age, and quickly blossoms into a vocal star, devoting her time to organizing musical events and writing songs. Later in life, she takes to traveling outside of the Encanto, something inside her yearning to know more about the world and escape the limitations she feels trapped in. She gains herself a notable reputation as a performer in multiple social clubs and lounges, her name taking her across South America, and eventually across the sea.
Angela’s personality and mannerisms are based a lot on my own. She is extremely caring and compassionate for others, but often has a hard time deciphering her own emotions, and will usually bottle up her complicated feelings to save herself from causing trouble. She is often lovingly criticized as being overly dramatic by her family and friends, causing her to become extremely cautious and anxious about how she presents herself to others. Sometimes, something small will set off her temper, and she gets very cold and unresponsive as a defense mechanism, or if something makes her deeply upset after a buildup of repressed feelings and stress, she will fall apart into tears. Often times, her stimming gets interpreted as flirtatious behavior, and her attempts at masking usually have the same effect (hair twirling, too much eye contact, smiling and nodding).
A few little bits of information and trivia:
The bracelet she is almost always seen wearing was gifted to her on her fifth birthday. It had originally belonged to her mother. It is made up of pearls, jade, and a thin gold chain. Her rosary is constructed of similar materials.
Leilani was her intended name in canon, as Guillermo wanted to name her after his mother, but Anamaria immediately called her baby ‘her angel’ when she was born, so the name Angela was chosen instead and Leilani was bestowed as her second name.
I imagine her voice sounding like that of Angela Aguilar when she’s younger, and evolving into a vocal powerhouse like Beyoncé or Selena.
She is terrible at cooking. Her grandmother and aunts had tried to ingrain the kitchen skills into her at a young age, but it stressed her out because she wasn’t naturally gifted in it. She can make a good cup of coffee, but it’s best to leave to crafting of fine foods in the hands of someone more capable and confident.

My little baker, María Garcia 😭💚 ✨️ (Part 1/3) @encanto-extended-edition
Week 1: Introductions
Backstory:
25 years before the canon movie events, María García (23) lived in Encanto her whole life and worked at her family's recently formed bakery. While trying to gain attraction to the hidden business, María got the opportunity to meet the Madrigal triplets (25).
Intrigued the most by Bruno, she made it her mission to become his friend. Once their friendship is established, María accidentally develops deeper feelings for her best friend and desperately tries to hide her unwavering crush.
Their friendship almost dismantled when María witnesses Bruno performing his gift and becomes frightened by it. Upon encountering Bruno then apologizing profusely and begging for forgiveness, their friendship is rekindled (however she never lets herself forget her hurtful actions.) After some assurance, comfort, and a surprise kiss the two end up confessing and begin dating.
While their relationship is seen as not truthful at first, they prove the accusations wrong. Their new relationship is blissful, until Bruno has an involuntary vision of María's bakery burning down with her along with it. The two desperately try to figure ways to save her family's livelihood but in the end it is all for naught as the cause of the fire was by a cruel third party individual, completely out of their control. While María manages to live, she has recurring nightmares and flashbacks of the fire.
During the rebuilding of the bakery, the persecutors were held accountable and life slowly went back to normal. Once Bruno and María marry after 5 years of dating, María did her best to help support Bruno as he struggled in the family but her efforts weren't enough as all his disparity lead up to his disappearance.
For 3 years María wallowed over Bruno and became a much more reserved version of herself, until she ended up finding him one night sneaking around Casita. Despite being upset with him, she agrees begrudgingly to help keep his secret but in return she distances from the family and becomes estranged. He promised to write letters whenever he could via rat postage.
Due to the discovery and overwhelming guilt knowing where Bruno was hiding, María tried desperately to distance herself from the Madrigals.
They kept in contact through notes via rat postage and did a few visits in the beginning but they had to stop due to the immense pain that also came with them. One day, her young sobrina Mirabel visits her and asks about her Tío Bruno.
María guides her to look for the vision, despite going against her promise towards her husband, she had faith in Mirabel. When Casita falls, María helps the family but is horrified at the notion that Bruno may have been killed.
Returning to her home for supplies, Bruno is there and they are reunited for a bit. While María joins to family to search on foot, Bruno rides off to look for Mirabel Once everyone is back together, María finally reconnects with the entire family alongside her husband.

For week 1 of @encanto-extended-edition I present my main Encanto oc! Johanna Engel. Everyone calls her Hanna. She is a love interest for Camilo and the second main character to my Encanto fanfiction! She is the best oc I have ever created and I love her so much! 🩵
🩵Full name Johanna Roslyn Engel
🩵 German-Colombian
🩵 she/her
🩵 March 5th
🩵 5’3’’
🩵 Blue eyes, light skin, golden brown hair
🩵 bubbly
🩵 observant of others
🩵 Hanna is seventeen when first introduced in my story and is the youngest in her family. She developed a keen sense of how other people around her may be feeling and becomes very observant of them because she would spend a lot of time alone watching them. But this was not by choice because her father would occupy a lot of her sister’s attention.
🩵Parents are Cal and Marie Louise Engel. Cal often neglects Hanna and spends more time with Amalia. He is psychologically abusive. He gaslights Hanna and doesn’t take much pride in her talent or intelligence .Marie is more attentive to Hanna but she is also an enabler. Amalia is Hanna’s older sister. She is the one family member Hanna feels closest to despite Cal’s favoritism. (I don’t want to spoil too much)
🩵 Hanna would spend most of her childhood trying to be just like her sister Amalia just to please her father. It wouldn’t really work but she was always hopeful. Eventually when she enters her teenage years, she starts giving up on trying to be like Amalia, but it caused her to have an identity crisis. When she meets Camilo she is struggling to find out what kind of person she really is.
🩵 When she was ten, she received her first instrument. A hand carved quena (a wooden flute). It was originally a birthday gift for Amalia given by an acquaintance to the family, but Cal did not like the way it sounded and gave her a violin instead. Marie insisted that Hanna can have the quena. Cal agreed but under the condition that Hanna can not play it inside the house. Hanna would end up playing it in the horses stable instead. It seemed to her that the horses liked her music. But because she would always play for horses, she only felt comfortable playing music by herself or in front of animals. This later changes when Camilo helps her to gain more confidence in herself. In turn, she helps Camilo to understand that he is not alone with the things he struggles with, and makes him see that he is more loved and needed by others than he believes.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Hanna 🩵✨

Julieta y la bruja
Tumblr media
Aya la bruja shows Julieta Madrigal a Psilocybe columbiana and a limón mandarino to make lemon tek with.
“I think mamá gave Tío Bruno mushroom tea. She learned it from Aya la bruja when she was younger. In very small doses, it can ease melancholy.”
Aya la bruja started out as just a name. I had no intention of developing her. When I wrote that for Chapter 6 of "Viñetas," this was the kind of image I had in mind. Julieta's gift is one of the most captivating ones for me because of its resemblance with the magical element in the Mexican novel Like Water for Chocolate. Whereas Tita's emotions affect her cooking and the people that eat her food, Julieta heals physical injuries and presumably illnesses with her food. I wondered how Julieta developed her gift. Since Alma does not have her own gift and is busy running the Encanto, did anyone teach Julieta how to attend to people's health?
I recalled the Clarissa Pinkola Estés' interpretation of Vasilisa the Wise in Women Who Run with the Wolves: that in the title character's stay with the witch Baba Yaga, she learned the ways of the wizened ones from the crone. I thought perhaps there was a witch in the Encanto that could guide Julieta. Much like the Cut-Wife and Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful:
youtube
It didn't take me long to come up with the name. Aya comes from ayahuasca because I was looking into psychoactive substances for depression at the time. (For context: In "Viñetas," Bruno suffers from depression, insomnia, and migraines after the events of the movie.) But as I continued writing, the character of Aya la bruja would change before I got to describe her appearance. Look out for the next entry, @encanto-extended-edition 🖤

A big shoutout to @encanto-extended-edition and their awesome OC event for the Encanto fandom. It's week one which means I get to introduce my OC. I'm happy to info dump about my girl, Nayelli Ramos!
Nayelli started out as a self-insert for my Reader x Bruno fanficiton Antisocial but has since evolved into so much more 😍
Name/Nickname: Nayelli "Yelli" Milagros Ramos
Date of Birth: January 31st, 1919
Height: 5"2
Personality: Nayelli is very calm and quiet but not shy by any means; just prefers not to be the center of attention. She can be blunt but this comes from a place of wanting to be honest. She is very kind, and will usually root for the underdog. She will be quiet in a crowd but in her element or with small groups of people she is comfortable around, my girl can be quite goofy. This girl reads books as a means of self-care and loves storytelling.
Here is my novel compiling her backstory.

WEEK TWO OF THE ENCANTO OC APPRECIATION:
RELATIONSHIPS
Or atleast, one relationship in particular.
Bruno and Efi first met in their mid-20s, the night of Alma’s 50th birthday party. Their first meeting is a tumultuous one (with her almost feeding one of his rats to her snake, Pestana), but after a few more chance meetings the two of them strike up a bond when she compliments his writing. From then on, they sneak away from respective families to meet up with each other for a few hours, spending the afternoon reading books and Efi being Bruno’s self-proclaimed editor for his stories.
On paper, they’re complete opposites; Efi being eccentric and brash, in contrast to Bruno’s nervous and pessimistic disposition. But they’re actually cut from a similar cloth, being from families where they feel pressured to act and be a certain way. And they both have the same quirky senses of humor, with one of Efi’s favorite jokes being the different voices he puts on when retelling his stories to her. She even joins in with her own characters! They become close from their time spent together, the hours they spend together getting pushed longer and longer until they absolutely have to leave. This relationship continues for months, until the night of Bruno’s 25th birthday, when he realizes suddenly that his feelings for her run much deeper than a simple friendship.
Efi is an outsider to the Encanto, and as a result has no knowledge of the Miracle of his Gift. For the first time in his life, Bruno has met someone who doesn’t make assumptions about him or put him on a pedestal - he can be himself. He continues to keep this fact from her, to his immense guilt. But unknown to him, Efi has some secrets of her own as well that she’s keeping from him. The irony is that they both have the same fear - that once they reveal this fact about themself, the other will see them differently…

Meet My Encanto OC, Lucía Moreno from Just Your Ordinary, Everyday Miracle on ao3!
Full Name: Lucía María Moreno-Hernandez
Age: 41
Birthday: December 13th
Height: 5'3"
Eye Color: Brown with amber/gold flecks
Hair Color:  Dark Brown
Appearance: Medium brown skin. Long wavy dark brown hair, worn in a braid down her back or wound into a bun at the back of her head. Long thin nose and brown eyes set into a friendly round face. Usually wears a white or cream blouse with a brown, green, or blue skirt and practical shoes.
Memorable Quotes:
“I suppose we should be thankful for small miracles, eh?” Ch. 2
“I don't want an out, Bruno. This may come as a surprise to you, but I actually like you.” Ch. 9
“I want to move forward, but I don't want to forget. Sometimes it feels like everyone else is forgetting.” Ch. 16
“You’re allowed to forgive yourself for the things you regret.  You know that, right?” Ch. 26
General Information/Personality: Lucía is a kind, practical, 'do-what-needs-to-be-done-with-as-little-fuss-as-possible' type of person. She tends to see the best in people, and her upbringing by two loving parents in the safe and protected Encanto has given her a fairly optimistic view of the world. She's very aware of the pain that can come in life - she is a widow and losing her husband in a tragic accident broke her heart - but she tries to focus on the good she sees in the world instead - and to be some of that good herself. If she sees a need and can meet it, she does. She'll step into a situation without question if she feels she can help, but if someone is antagonizing her directly she avoids them (and conflict) like nobody's business. Her desire to be helpful often directly contradicts (and overpowers) her desire to mind her own business. She's a dreamer and a writer, and her favorite stories are ones that include pirates. Her favorite place to go when she needs time to herself is beneath the old cedar tree in the center of her neighbor's corn fields. Her biggest worry and greatest responsibility in life is raising her daughter Josefina well without her husband Alejandro, but she has a loving family that supports her in her efforts.
History: Lucía’s parents were present at the founding of the Encanto, but Lucía and her younger sister Sofia were not born until around a decade later.  Her father is a printer and does his best to keep literature of both the fiction and non-fiction variety alive in the Encanto, and Lucía followed in her father’s footsteps.  She grew up helping her parents set type and bind books, and reading and listening to various stories and informational texts.  She helps run her father’s print shop and makeshift library and took on a larger role in the shop after her mother died when Lucía was in her early thirties.  Half of the shop houses the printing press, typeset, ink, and paraphernalia associated with printing and bookbinding, and the other half holds several shelves filled with books that her parents either printed or salvaged over the years. She helps set type and print orders and helps maintain the small library they have.  She also hosts a story time for the village kids a few times a week.  Her sister Sofia married Lorenzo Rojas, who runs the stables in the Encanto.
When Lucía was in her early twenties, she married Alejandro Moreno, an up and coming artist who went on to paint a mural of the Madrigals in town.  After they married, they worked together on printing and illustrating a large book of fairytales, legends, and fables, which Lucía still uses during her story times.  They also had one daughter together – Josefina – before he died while roaming the mountains around the Encanto in search of materials for his paints and inspiration for his work.
Alejandro’s death devastated Lucía, and she spent over a month afterward deep in shock, grief, and depression, pushing her family, friends, and even her young daughter away.  It was only with the help of her family that she slowly began to heal from his loss and the mistakes she made while grieving him. She does her best to be a present and loving mother to Josefina and does her best to keep Alejandro's memory alive by speaking of him frequently with her daughter. Three years later she is still in the cyclical process of grieving and healing. The night Casita falls, she's helping clean up her sister's barn when Bruno Madrigal shows up with the hood of his ruana thrown over his head, demanding her ‘fastest steed’.
Though Lucía is quick to befriend him, their romance is what you would definitely consider a slow burn. It takes both of them time to open their hearts to the possibilty of second chances.
The wonderful art at the top of this post is by the lovely @starfangssecrets. ❤
The rest is mine as I attempt to teach myself to draw. Please excuse variations in appearance and shading as I figure out what the heck I'm doing, lol. 🥰
Thanks so much for hosting this fun event @encanto-extended-edition

Day 4 (Age 20) 🥰🥰🥰
✰ ─ SIGNIFICANT OTHER : Bruno Madrigal
⤷ DATING HISTORY ⵓ
♤ duration : 1920-“present” (1950)
♤ label : Husband
♤ current status : Married
⤷CASUAL WEAR ⵓ
Typical blouse and skirt or dress for the era (almost always in pinks and florals). Although loves more Victorian styles than traditional Colombian. White slip on espadrilles with pink roses embroidered. Green dangling emerald earrings and beautiful pink camphor glass wedding ring.
Married- June 16, 1920
(The luckiest day to get married)
After a rough last few years in school and in her parent’s home, She and Bruno finally married! 🥰 Making her the first spouse to be brought to live in Casita.
Bruno proposed to her at their special place (a little spot by the river on the outskirts of the Encanto). He did his homework on jewelry or the Victorian period and put a lot of work and money into making her beautiful pink camphor glasses ring. After she enthusiastically said yes they sat and talked about their future. Not caring for once about the villagers mistreatment or their families. They braided flowers into each others hair and stayed till dark to watch the stars.
Since Bruno put in so much effort into the proposal she made sure to put just as much if not more into the wedding. She sewed their marital quilt, she spent the entire six months of their engagement hunting down a four leaf clover. She likes to think the miracle still sends a bit of magic to those in need because she found one sprouted right outside Casita merely 3 days before the wedding!
Much to her parents and Alma’s dismay she sewed her dress herself using beautiful vibrant green calico pattern. But let’s just say with all the fooling around her and Bruno did for the past few years she didn’t wanna jinx anything by wearing white 🤭
Right now she is loving life despite some of the challenges Bruno has to deal with and her by extension. She’s traded her “mourning” clothes for lots and lots of pinks!
Bruno calls her his ‘Muñeca’ and she calls him ‘Mí Cesne’ after reading in a book that swans mate for life.
