Hmmm ok but lemme see if u have headcanons for sick everlark . Like only one sick at a time , what does the other do to provide and care ? 🥺
anon i absolutely love this one because it’s so very everlarkish 🥣🍯🕯🪵🍞🧶🛁🐈🍶
i think they’d both act a little bit reluctant to let the other take care of them, they’re stubborn wee shits and probably struggle a bit with vulnerability and feeling vulnerable for a little while after the war.
but secretly they absolutely love to be pampered by the other, and it goes without saying they adore to take care of each other (that part is not so secret.)
they’re very attentive to each other’s needs, and also a little bit paranoid and it shows the way they kind of. flap. to take care of each other. there’s lots of hot tea and cold compresses, soothing words and kisses on clammy foreheads. reminding the other not to feel bad for taking a couple of days out and riding out their sickness instead of rushing back to normality without fully recovering.
katniss would be sick a lot more often than peeta, she hasn’t got a spleen after all so her immune system would not be quite as efficient. peeta would work extra hard to make sure she didn’t feel cooped up or trapped in her bedroom, distracting her with conversation and sketching to keep her entertained. he’d cook whatever she wanted so long as she had an appetite, and when she didn’t he’d still keep her hydrated and encourage her to even eat little amounts. he’d bring her new books from town and yarn to knit with 🥺 she always makes him a lil something to say thank you.
bad bouts of flu wouldn’t be common for peeta, but they’d be pretty grim for him. the grogginess would remind him of his hijacking and fever makes for uncomfortable sleeps. katniss would be super aware of this and try to keep him as comfortable as possible, making sure he’s hydrated and cosy. lots of curl stroking and singing him to sleep 🥺 she stays up with him whenever he needs her to.
katniss everdeen makes a mean pot of soup, and this is A1 when it comes to sicknesses in the household. peeta swears it’s a miracle cure for anything, because he always feels better after eating it. katniss thinks he’s full of shit, but she lets him entertain her.
katniss has also picked up on a lot of her mother’s remedies, whether she accepts it or not. she is a healer as well, not matter how much she refuses to acknowledge it, especially when her peeta is involved.
peeta is understandably less clued up when it comes to medicines and stuff, but he sure is good at taking care of his katniss. when a flu gives her sore bones or achy muscles, he’ll give her a massage and a hot bath and keep her comfy in their big nest of a bed. if she picks up sickness bugs he’s patient and gentle, keeping her hydrated with plenty of cups of tea and broths, holding her hair back and rubbing her tummy. it’s like he’s got his own ‘remedies’ without actually using any treatments. just a whole lot of love.

Everlarkish moment with Orphan Black’s Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) as Katniss and Paul (Dylan Bruce) as Peeta.
titania522, I pictured Dylan Bruce as Peeta while reading your fic Run to You.

I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down.
This time, there is nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts, Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind.”
