So as an Indigenous person in Canada you have certain rights you're entitled to and no one anywhere knows what the fuck they are, so me being three weeks into fighting my ex-employer over taxes and losing my mind decided to deal with my emotions by projecting them onto fictional characters lol - this might be solely self-serving but I'm fine with that
Remus sighed and let his head thunk against his laptop. Sirius smiled around his coffee cup. "You finally die of boredom?"
"No. I'm being slowly killed by stupidity," Remus mumbled against the keyboard. He really need to clean it. The dust was much more visible from this close up.
"Whose stupidity?" Sirius asked and Remus missed the note of warning in his husbands voice. It was Sirius's 'I'll fuck over everyone who tries to harm those I love' tone.
"It's the HR rep from my last job again. I need her to change my tax forms. My times working doing travelling and doing care for the packs was supposed to be tax-free. First she wanted my werewolf registration card, which is stupid. No one needs my birth certificate to prove I have a pulse. It would be fraud for me to have lied about my status. But whatever, I'd send it if that's what it took to get this over with.
"So I offered to scan and send a copy of my registration card if it meant they'd redo them for me and she followed up providing me a T90 form where I can figure out my tax exempt income myself. Except, I can't because form T90 requested you input the value found in box 71 of your T4 so I looked that up and of course box 71 is the dollar amount of your income that is tax-exempt for 'werewolves working in a designation pack zone as required by their employer' but I don't have that number because that's the bloody fucking box I've been trying to get them to fill out this whole time.
"And like I did all of this months before I quit. I mean I should have expected it cause I quit because of racism and discrimination but I gave them a TD-W1 already. I did everything I'm supposed to do but they don't expect to ever hire a werewolf so why would they bother to teach their HR reps the forms to complete upon hiring one?"
Remus sighed. "I'm sorry Pads. I know you deal with me ranting and raving about prejudice enough as it is. It's just getting to me. I don't know how much more I can talk."
Remus was met with a long steely silence followed by a crack of apparition and he sat up to find that his husband had disappeared. Less than five minutes later there was another crack and Sirius somehow reappeared with the CEO of his former place of employment who was looking rather sheepish.
"Mr. Lupin," he said, extending his hand, "I've been made aware there have been some issues with your tax forms?"
"Issues of discrimination," Sirius said his voice dripping with contempt.
"As I've said to your husband, Harold's has a strict zero tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination in the workplace."
"And as I've told you Mr. Jameson, if that policy was properly enforced Remus wouldn't have experience mistreatment to the level that he had no choice to quit for his own wellbeing."
Mr. Jameson swallowed heavily, but ultimately decided to ignore Sirius. "Well, I wanted to let you know we were able to revise your T4 properly and I wanted to apologize and deliver it in person."
"Thank you," Remus said, voice trembling as he took the envelope from his hand.
"Of course. If there's anything else...?"
Remus couldn't help but feel smug as the CEO of this multi-billion dollar company turned to look at his husband for confirmation that he was allowed to leave, which Sirius provided in the form of a terse nod.
"You didn't have to do that," Remus said, hands shaking as he opened the form to see that finally, finally box 71 was filled out.
"It's not right. You shouldn't have to jump through eighty different hoops to get them to do something that's enshrined in law."
Remus looked down at his feet embarrassed. He knew Sirius was well aware that Remus often paid full price for pain potions and other required medication because most apothecaries 'didn't take that rewards program' when he asked them for the discount entitled to him as a registered werewolf. He just got so exhaustion of having to argue and fight with everyone all the time and then being seen as a nuisance for having to get the manager brought out. It always felt like everyone in the store was staring at him and that he was being difficult for asking them to meet his basic rights.
Sirius slowly stepped into Remus's space. "I did it again, didn't I?" Sirius knew he often had a habit of setting of the world on fire for those he loved and asking questions later, including whether or not the people he loved wanted him to light the world on fire for him.
"I - I don't know. I mean they should know they can't treat people like that but I can't help feeling like I'm being difficult. "
"Darling," Sirius said, gently placing his hands on Remus's arms, "you aren't being difficult for asking them to recognize the rights afforded to you as a werwolf. It took years of hard work and advocacy to see those enshrined in law. They can't just be ignored."
Remus felt his eyes start to water. "Sometimes I think you'd make a better werewolf than I would."
"Hey," Sirius said, tipping his head up to look in his eyes. "Don't say that. You do so much for your community."
"Then why did I quit? Yeah, they treated me terribly and I had to deal with discrimination daily, but it meant something to the packs I worked with to actually have someone who understood them representing them. How can what I done not be seen as turning my back on them?"
"Sweetheart, the best thing you can do for your community is to stay alive. You can't help anyone if you can't get out of bed anymore or if you're being traumatized on a daily basis."
Remus let himself fall into Sirius's arms. "I just want to exist," he said as the tears finally fell. "Is that too much to ask?"
And Sirius didn't know what to say to that because he knew that more often than not the way the world treated Remus showed him that yes, it was too much to ask, but Sirius knew he'd do whatever he could to show Remus that wasn't true.

I'm so stuck right now. I'm at, I think, the midway point and I can't decide if Sig should have contact with the Underground and their toddler charge. Because there are very few scenarios that do not result in Sig yoinking BabyJak away and taking him home. And while this COULD work, the kid still has to get taken to the rift gate and sent back in time to grow up to become Jak.
It'd be even easier if I didn't subscribe to maintaining the Spacetime Continuum, but I also know you don't challenge fate unless you wanna pay for it later.
I know it can work... I just need to find out how....

Is it just me, or does the "voice" of the narrator in your writing change depending on which character is being "focused on" at the moment? I find that really cool.
Yup, this is because I used third-person limited when I write, which is my preferred style!
Third-person limited allows people to read from the perspective of a character without the close intimacy that first person brings. When you have a story that uses "I" or "myself", this encourages you to experience the story as the protagonist. This isn't always the intent of the author though, sometimes they're just more comfortable with first person, since everyone has their preferences.
Third-person limited allows a bit of distance between the reader and the protagonist though. You are observing this specific character from a safe distance, you get to see their internal workings and how they view the world and certain characters, but you're not doing it where the story's encouraging you to experience these workings alongside the character. You're just observing, and some people prefer this distance when engaging in stories (esp if there's shipping bc people just wanna watch two favourite characters get along and are squicked by the narration trying to "insert" them into one of them. I know I definitely am.).
So yes, I try to ensure that whatever perspective I'm limited by is characteristic of the character I'm writing for! I find it quite fun, and it can be an interesting exercise feeling out how a character would percieve the world in their narration...

789 words into my Ted/Trent finale fix-it fic. Good start for just under an hour of my evening. Thinking I might be doing this one as a 2 chapter so I can write separate Ted and Trent POVs. We’ll see… sometimes I think doing the same sequences from both sides can get a little repetitive which is why I generally attempt to write as a narrator sharing certain characters’ POVs along the way like I’m telling a story and gossiping for background context, but something about this one’s got me feeling like I don’t want to do it quite that way. Anyways it’s kind of just exciting to me to feel like and be writing again. I want really badly to re-submerge myself in some of my older fandoms to get the wind to complete some unfinished stuff when this cushy little Tedependent bubble eventually deflates, but have so many regrets about that unfinished stuff I’m refusing to post anything incomplete to this fandom. Like that actual finale was so incomplete I can’t do that kind of thing to the fandom like that show did to us with any level of good conscience.

lol I may have accidentally made a Tomoe Ame fan-descendant help
so basically, last month in April, I started writing down the plot beats for a story idea I got based on a little background detail in the show.
Tumblr media
there is this white rabbit with blue hair featured in an ad and I thought it must be some super-subtle reference to a story idea the crew had but couldn't use. except when I looked it up in the episode itself, it was a cat, not a rabbit. However when I started looking for production art posted by any of the art crew online, I found this (from Guillaume Montoya's artstation portfolio):
Tumblr media
so I had been right and she WAS a rabbit! I was so confused but so elated! It felt like some important detail!
So I started thinking: maybe the detail was changed to avoid the audience over-connecting the pieces that weren't there? The rabbits in the Miyamoto clan were rabbits with long ears, so this background detail definitely had to go, to avoid any confusion. after all, in the show Gen says, "first time I'm seeing a rabbit" - rabbits haven't been seen in a long time in Neo Edo. So what happened to em?
Then I started writing down more idea-lines.
Most obvious: what if this is related to Usagi's parents somehow? What if Chikabuma and the other gang leaders know something about this lost star?
Oooh, what if she's a lost spirit and the Ki-stone being less connected to the city means she can finally show her ghastly face?
Next obvious: Who replaced her? Who's this new white and blue cat? What if she's somehow related
I'll name her Tomoyo, and she'll sufferbunder this new role because she does not actually want to be famous for being famous... she wants to be a true samurai!
Today's thoughts: what if she's related to Tomoe Ame, becuase of the candy (get it? bc Tomoe Ame was based on the name of a candy... there's friendship candy in the show.......)
so that's the thoughtline I had behind this character xD
basically I had two character ideas: a ghost lady who hates Miyamoto Usagi and possesses Usagi to relive her glory days as a pop star and a Tomoe Ame-like character who unwantingly took her place and was about to see a lot of changes to her life. I’ve already got a whole 8-page doc outlined about the story I have using both these characters but i’m a bit scared to post it all half-baked as it is and would prefer to make it a comic/animatic, even tho both will arguably take longer to make xD
anyway, i have been silently thinking abt this since the start of may and idk when I'll post more abt it outside of twt but it's exciting to think about. I’m not that interested in making a “Tomoe Ame proper” adaptation, bc it seems like the show itself also wanted to give more freedom to interpretation + not muck up the history/future of the comic too much, so I’ve got my own historical sources of insp to look into for now. still excited tho! I don’t usually make fan characters or even many fan stories for things I like without a good idea.

If I had a nickel for every time Google Docs tried to correct Secretkeeper to “The Secretkeeper” while I wrote my fanfiction, realistically I would have more than 1 dollar.
(Bonus points for Google Docs trying to correct Farsight to “Farsighted”, and for giving Stonemover the occasional “The Stonemover” like damn, these are names, not professions)

New idea: instead of writing the fic, you come over to my house and I tell you the entire plot while I pace my tiny kitchen. There’s a cup of tea, warm in your hands. The words don’t stop and the affection never leaves your expression.

StrayCat update: I think I've got the outline completely done. I'm going to have my friend look it over to make sure i'm not missing anything, plot wise. I'll also have to give it a look, myself, outside of the context of the writing. I'm thinking i might ask for a third set as well, just to cover all of my bases.
I'm at 20k words at this point, which is not even halfway done, oddly enough, but I also feel like I should be farther along than I presently am. Ah well. I'll keep you posted on progress as I go. I'm starting up scenes way later in the narrative as well as picking through beginning chapters off and on. Playing so loosey goosy with this thing, i swear, is the weirdest way I have ever written a strory, but hey, whatever keeps me invested!
fun little preview for you this time, as well. Enjoy

I am trying to write chapter four but despite this being a slow burn my brain only wants to think about the ~ tension ~ scenes.
Sure, it's coming along. But so is the excruciating details of all the pining that keeps wanting to be written instead. I'm making a lot of notes, though that's just cascading into more notes with quotes and dialog to go with it. The more I read John Keats the more Vash wants to be the one waxing lyrical about things and people, which is distracting with WW's POV being so crude and rough. My brain really feels a lot like

Oh motherfuck, that was really well-written and I'm Invested and that bit about Flatwell had me cackling xD If time and thinkmeat allow for it, how'd Erik react to the corps showing up? (No pressure meant, that was just a really fascinating little look into the world)
thank you, i'm glad you liked it!
as for when the corps showed up, the PCA were very much like fuckfuckfuck when the Corps showed up. They reported it back to the UEG (which is the United Earth Government), who then told them to get hard evidence that they were corps and not very elaborately disguised mercs/wildcat miners. Whatever evidence the PCA got was never "convincing" enough, though, and eventually they gave up, realising that the UEG had discreetly approved of this.
Complicated Earth politics time: the UEG publically condemn any corporations that MAY be on Rubicon illegally doing Coral mining, IF these allegations are true. In private, however, they have an agreement with the Corps that if they do strike it big on Rubicon, they'll give a cut of the Coral to the UEG in exchange for them running the media circus allowing the Corps to continue their expedition mostly unimpeded.
So, after figuring this out, the PCA ended up taking a very restrained approach to the Corps' invasion. when the Corps settled in an area the PCA knew was mostly absent of coral, they let them fuck around there hoping they'd get discouraged and fuck off. Unfortunately the Corps stayed and kept on digging, and they only really started to act when Raven arrived on rubicon and kickstarted the plot by destroying that watchpoint...
