Aaaand there's a kinkajou listed on our local craigslist. Why. 🤦😬 Jack sent a message to a kinkajou rescue in Florida, though dunno if they'll be able to help. But like. Yikes. Poor boy is only 3 years old too, and they can live 30+. And he's old enough to have gotten attached to specific humans, so rehoming will probably be hard on him.

Around the west side of the building the hangar door was wide open. Inside sat a glossy black plane with white accents. A cross was painted in silver on the panel behind the cockpit.

John walked up to it and patted its side as if it were a beloved pet. “This is the Affirmation.”

She shrugged. “Neat.”

“Neat?” John huffed. “No, neat doesn’t even begin to cover it.” He tapped the hull with his knuckles. “This is an AdjudiCor FBW.”

He launched into a rant about engine diagnostics and configurations. Something about its top of the line performance and how only several hundred were made. Most of it went way over Delilah’s head.

She let him ramble while she strolled around the hangar, peering inside toolboxes and opening a few closet doors. Nothing besides a fusebox, tools, oil cans, and cleaning supplies. No weapons, contraband, or anything out of the ordinary to be found.

“Do you want to take her for a spin?”

Delilah paused, nudging away a box of screws with the toe of her boot. “Me?” Her eyebrows shot up beneath her bangs.

“Do you fly?”

“No. Absolutely not.” In fact, she was of the strong opinion that she belonged on the ground at all times.

John shrugged, looking more put out than she thought he had any right to. “You should try it sometime. An adrenaline rush with a view… I promise there’s nothing like it.”

Can't help the poor kinkajou boy. :( Poster responded to my email that they're asking $2500 for him bc they paid $3500. 🙄 Not really surprised, but still upset. I really hope he finds a safe landing place.

In the meantime, trying to make myself feel better, sent a donation to Emma's training group, and applied to adopt a female rat from one of our main rescues bc they only have one girl listed on the site. Dunno if that means she's the only one left or only one posted, told them we could take 2-3 if they have more not posted.

As if I wasn't already grumpy enough about outdoor cats on a typical day, one of our neighbors' fucking cats got in a fight with Shilo through the run fence. Jack said Shilo is okay, just came away with some fur under his claws from the other cat. But I'm!!! Fucking livid!!!! I already didn't want them in my yard but now they're ATTACKING MY KITTEN? WHY the fuck can't I go spray their humans in the face with my hose. Guess it's time to look at ways to defend our yard from other people being shitty fucking owners.

I have a pinched nerve in my back by my hip and it fucking sucks. Besides work being hard and painful, and still hurting when I get home, and just general misery, I also can't do shit with the dogs. I haven't been able to give them a walk for like 2 weeks, and I miss it. We've played in the backyard some, but not enough, especially this week.

We have potato dogs, so they're not like, eating the couch or losing their entire brains over this. But Addy is being a bigger butthead than usual with barking, fixating on the couch, not listening, etc, and I know it's bc she's bored and antsy. Just very frustrating bc it's not her fault but it's not my fault and I'm trying to do more chews and enrichment, but even that's hard when I'm mostly stuck on the couch when I get home.

😭😭😭😭 Every step being harder bc I don't know what I'm doing is continuing. Everything is plugged in and set up.... and I realized that the Herpstat, plugged in and set up with the heat panel, would work better for the halogen light than the VE thermostat. Trying to amp myself up to switch the probes but I don't waaaannaaaaa.... 😭

Today's cancelled. Animals are cancelled.

Jesse's mass is an inch long. We'll have more results in 48 hours, but between that and some various other things, I don't think we're doing surgery.

On top of that. I woke up from a sudden nap and don't see Phoebe anywhere on main floor. Ask Jack & Joel, neither have seen her. Go to the basement to look and check on the crabs while down there.

The salt water pool cracked. Completely drained. The sand is flooded at the bottom of that side, an inch or two. It's been 48 hours already, so guessing anyone who couldn't get away is already dead. I can't deal with digging through half the tank (especially with it up higher now) during the work week, I just can't. So I dig through half the substrate on Friday, look for dead crabs, and replace substrate. And have to buy a new pool.

Go back to Phoebe search. Yes, she was outside, for at least over an hour. Maybe 2? No clue, bc she went out with Addy, without any humans around. She was close enough to hear Jack out looking for her, so when I went out a few minutes later, she was by the door and came in.

I went in and had a panic attack on the couch. Addy tried to get to me 3 times, Jack let her up the 4th after I calmed down some and she sniffed me all over and laid in my lap. Good dog. You can be uncancelled.

Joel told me after that, Phoebe had also gone out with dogs around lunchtime, roommate saw her out under the pine trees. She let them catch her immediately, but fucking REALLY.

SO. Now we don't spend $5000 for Jesse surgery, but we're spending $1000 to set up an extended roofed dog run outside the back door. It'll be 5ft x 30ft, directly next to the house, and with another door on the side, to the porch. This solves multiple problems at once, at least. Phoebe stays safe. Prissy Prince Spring gets his covered potty area. And the poop all stays in one area, leaving the rest of the yard clean for gardening and dog romp time.

Who wants animals, we're giving them all away and collecting rocks instead.

Ngl, I hate rescues that think crappy homes are better than euthanasia. Our area just had a hoarding case with 200+ rats and a rescue took them all and is asking for crappy plastic cages and foster homes for all of them. THERE'S 200!!! Who knows how many are pregnant!!! For fuck's sake, euthanize them. How are you going to find GOOD homes for 200 rats that may easily become 700+? They have them "clean and happy" in cat kennels for now.... like, crowded into the kennels. Happy? You sure?

Hell, even with just this last case they took on, where we got our new girls from, the family that was adopting some of the baby boys. Wrong cage, way too small. Crappy food. The foster had to go through all this with them on pickup. They had 3 kids who were yelling, stomping feet, etc. To adopt a couple of very skittish, unsocialized baby rats. WHY.

I've ranted about this like 3 times since last night already. Btw, this is the same rescue that said the stray cat I tried to take in "would be happier and have a better life outside". I'm very done with them and their views of animal welfare.

I’m posting a huge list of autism resources on here because Facebook is an even bigger garbage site than this site, which is saying something. Want to have an easily saved/accessible list that a couple of friends can keep on hand for educating people, as I just had a friend ask me for it. Anyway mostly just ranting about FB & giving heads up for the list, it will be tagged as “not animal related”.
