So recently, I started watching Bluey!
In a way, that was inevitable: I was a brony back in the day (and yes that sure is a whole subject in its own right I'm not getting into right now lmao), I work in a setting where I frequently interact with children, and I'm Australian. It was just a matter of time, and when my aunt over the Christmas hollies demanded my parents and I watch 'the cricket episode', that was just the final permission I needed to do it.
So, those are three potential reasons to watch it: because kids' cartoons can be highly enjoyable and good viewing in their own right, because it'll help me better understand and relate to kids, and because it is The big cultural product coming out of my country for this entire decade probably and that's interesting.
And all of them turned out to be well-founded! It has helped me to visualise a lot better how kids work and learn and live, and it's good viewing: the animation is pretty, the music work is great (some very well-placed classical pieces alongside the Steven Universe-esque chiptunes), and it's equally capable of being sweet and funny and genuinely meaningful. There's a lot that can be said about that; the contrast with the mixed reaction to the 'darker' Avatar remake, or even just the way limitations (in this case, quick 7-minute runtimes) can breed creativity.
But it was that third reason which surprised me the most. I'd heard all the jokes about how American kids are picking up Australian slang and even accents and so forth, but I never properly prepared myself for how... it would feel, seeing my life depicted on TV like that.
It's not like Australians never get to see our country on TV. We have our own reality shows and soapies and all that, but I don't watch the latter and the former... aren't exactly depictions of ordinary everyday life. When Australia does show up in media, it's usually through satire: either Simpsons-style, or our own home-grown Kath and Kim or The Castle. And that's not a knock on either of those last two: they're pitch-perfect depictions of Australian culture and I'd highly recommend anyone who wants to understand Australian humour or social mores to watch both! It's just that they're very... self-deprecating. Which, again: Australian culture. We're like that.
But Bluey is so... beautiful.
I've always had a weird relationship to my country. I've never really fit in much with the culture; I'm too sensitive and sincere for it, and it's usually pretty obvious I think. And the environment? I just don't entirely know how to relate to it. All of our holidays are based on a calendar and geography an entire world away. Native plants and animals and the like always seemed like they Belong To the, well, native Australians. I'm not witchy, I'm not a health junkie, and I'm not super outdoorsy (though I do like a hike now and then!). My main way of interacting with my country is through just walking down the street, and marvelling at how pretty my city is, and how lovely (and/or annoying!) the birds are.
And I get that from Bluey. Something it's good at, even outside my personal connection to it I think, is depicting this certain sense of awe at the world that children can have, when everything is so new and strange and wonderful. The pilot episode features a long, zoomed-in moment of the youngest child encountering a walking leaf bug, and her whispered, thinking-out-loud amazement. 'Why would a leaf want to walk?' indeed!
And there's that: the rainbow lorikeets flocking in trees; the jacaranda flowers softly falling outside the parents' bedroom window. But also the man-made things. The green deck chairs out on the lawn, drinking white wine and cider while the dads barbeque. The sausage sizzle and pavlova. The opening presents Christmas morning and then going for a swim in the pool with your cousins.
It's romanticised up the wazoo; it boggles me a little when people complain about how big the titular character's house is, because... yeah! It's idealised! It's meant to be pretty and comfy and a little wish-fulfilmenty. That's not to say that everything is perfect, but it's larger than life; not to quote the old cliche, but it's a preschoolers' show, for gosh sake.
And for someone who has always loved the world too much and felt silly and cringy and embarrassed by it, there's something really, really lovely about finally getting to see artists direct that love at the actual world I see around me. Not exactly the same; where I live is much drier than Brisbane, for starters. But it's close enough.
This, I really feel like, is a new cultural image of Australia that will resonate in the public memory. Not Mad Max, not Steve Irwin, just a pretty, hilly city by the beach, with bright cockatoos and wandering bin chickens, shallow creeks and gumnut 'dollars', and families gathering for barbeques and friendly games of backyard cricket.
(The cricket episode really is a very good one!!)

A Winter With You- Newsbians Holiday Fic
@klaineharmony, @stab-me-with-a-sword, and @wingedprunepsychiclawyer for showing such support and interest in my writing and other arts!
It was the eve of Christmas, finally! Sarah loved Christmas now, and it was even better with her wonderful girlfriend of four years asleep by her side. Sarah grew up Jewish, Esther and Mayer being very strict about their religion. After years of aging, though, Sarah abandoned her religion entirely, she became an atheist. It didn't matter that she was dating a slightly religious girl, it didn't matter if she celebrated Christmas instead of Hanukkah now, what mattered was that she had her Katherine.
Katherine Plumber-Pulitzer, a wonderful girl of excitement and dorkiness. Her with her auburn curls that were absolutely glowing when the snowflakes caught in it, her with her bright eyes that were luminous under the winter moon. Her with her freckles, smile, clothes, personality, her everything was perfect.
Sarah turned over a bit in the bed, shaking Katherine excitedly but softly. “Kath! Kath! Wake up! It's Christmas Eve! We have so much to do! You've put off tree decorating long enough!” Sarah pouted, still shaking Kath with urgency. She heard a noise of frustration come out of her girlfriend as she rolled over in their bed, head now lying on Sarah’s chest. Sarah looked at her for a moment with appreciation and love, before shaking her off her chest.
“Dearesttttttt,” Kath whined as her eyes fluttered open, seeing her girlfriend eye to eye.
“Babyyyyyyyy,” Sarah mocked the whine, shuffling closer and wrapping her arms around Katherine’s waist, pulling her upwards. Katherine turned at her, a pout playing on her features. Sarah sighed, shaking her head, a smile still on her face. “I'm sorry, Kathy, but we have things to do today…” Sarah reminded again, leaning down to give the smaller girl a gentle kiss on the lips. Katherine smiled into the kiss, kissing back for the short amount of time it lasted.
“Fine, you win, sweetheart.” Katherine smiled, now completely awake, stretching as she hopped out of their bed. “C’mon, now! I'll get the tree decorations from the basement!” Katherine rushed off quickly, leaving Sarah to giggle at her shenanigans as she made her way to the living room. Sarah adored the apartment she and Kath shared. It was small and homey, just right for the couple.
Katherine came up from the basement a few minutes later, still smiling as dust stains plagued her cheeks and nightgown. Sarah giggled again, dimples on show as she strode over to Katherine, taking the very few boxes out of her hands. “I'll take these, dear. Go clean yourself up! Your cheeks and pajamas are a mess!” Katherine giggled at Sarah, striding closer, making sure she helped Sarah drop the boxes with gentleness.
“Why should I clean? Don't wanna kiss someone with dirt on them? Didn't seem like a problem when you and Jack-,”
“We promised not to mention my questioning phase!” Sarah exclaimed, feeling a soft blush cross her cheeks. It embarrassed her that she and Jack were ever even a couple, especially now that they each had their own romantic partners. Katherine giggled at Sarah, poking at Sarah’s cheek playfully.
“Aww, is someone embarrassed her girlfriend is talkin’ about old relationships?” Sarah snorted as Katherine wound her arms around Sarah’s neck, tugging Sarah down, closer to her.
“Just go get changed, love. I'll start decorating.” Sarah gently brushed a hand through the reporter’s curls before escaping out of the firm grip Katherine’s arms had on her neck, making her way to the living room with the boxes. As Katherine made her way to their room, she started hanging ornaments, giggling at some. One ornament that prompted this reaction was an ornament with a picture of Katherine, four years old, holding a doll of some sort and grinning. Sarah had to muffle her giggles after a while, cause man, her partner is just so cute and precious, even as a child. She hadn't even known this decoration existed until now, Kath probably hid it on purpose.
On that ornament, little Kath had frizzy pigtails in, and her eyes were alight with enjoyment. Sarah set it down on the armchair beside her and the tree, thinking she’d tease Kath about it. She hung up the rest of the ornaments, wondering where Kath was. Just as she picked the angel up out of the box, Kath came into the room, absolutely beaming. She was wearing a green dress with sleeves up to her wrist, red accenting the edge of the neckline and the ends of the sleeves.
“You don't have to dress up for tree decorating. Plus, you took so long that I'm done.” Sarah informed with a half glare playfully, settling the glittering angel on top of the tree with ease. Sarah grinned, picking up the last ornament. “Except for…” Sarah trailed off, holding up the ornament with four year old Kath, smirking. Katherine’s face went bright red, grabbing it quickly.
“I thought I'd moved that outta the box!” Katherine stammered out, her blush only growing a shade darker. Sarah smiled, moving behind Kath and wrapping her arms behind the journalist’s waist, settling her chin on the top of Kath’s head. Katherine yelped, dropping the glass ornament, watching as it cracked, thankfully not shattering.
“It's broken! Hallelujah!” Kath called out, untangling herself from Sarah’s grip, before grabbing the ornament and throwing it away quickly. Sarah shook her head, smiling as she plugged the lights applied days before in. The bulbs sparked to life, illuminating the tree and making the ornaments glow. Kath returned to Sarah’s side, settling them both down on the armchair. “It's beautiful…” Katherine whispered, settling her head on Sarah’s shoulder, before quickly tucking her head into Sarah’s neck.
“Not as beautiful as you.” Sarah commented in an equally hushed tone, brushing through Katherine’s curls. Kath’s blush returned strong as she bolted up, taking Sarah’s hands in her own. “Hm?” Sarah hummed in question.
“Let's go make hot cocoa!” Kath exclaimed, dragging Sarah into the kitchen by her arm. Sarah smiled, drinking in the moment. She loved when Kath got this excited about something, it was so undeniably adorable.
“Okay, so, you want me to make two mugs of cocoa?” Sarah questioned, tilting her head, taking two mugs out when Katherine answered with a nod. She quickly found the packets of hot chocolate she kept in their special cupboard of drinks for soothing times, mixing the powder with the water. Katherine watched from the table, head propped up on her hand as her girlfriend worked at their drinks. She was completely enchanted with the way Sarah smiled, dimples and all, usually matched with a flash of her perfect, pearly white teeth. Sarah turned after a few more moments, holding two cups of hot cocoa. She held one out to Kath, keeping the other for herself, as she carefully settled by Kath on one of the bar stools in their kitchenette.
“Kath, I've a question.” Sarah stated after taking a long sip of her drink, eyebrow arching in question.
“Shoot.”
“Could we give each other a gift tonight?” Sarah rushed out, smiling still. Katherine, though confused, nodded.
“Yeah, yeah, sure…” Kath mumbled, sipping the rest of her cocoa out of her cup before leaning in for a kiss.
Sarah was happy to oblige. -------- “Aaaaand, the cookies are done!” Sarah called as she walked into the bedroom where Kath was, setting a plate of cookies on the nightstand, before hopping onto the bed with Kath. Kath smiled softly at her, leaning forward so their lips met. Sarah hated to break the moment of loveliness, but she eventually did press a hand to Katherine’s chest and pushed her away. “Gift exchange?”
“Oh, right!” Katherine exclaimed, reaching under the bed and taking out a large box. Sarah smiled, taking it gently. Her fingers worked at the paper, slowly ripping it apart. And once she got to the end…
“This isn’t…”
“It is!” Katherine bounced up and down, looking at the item in her girlfriend’s hand. In Sarah’s grasp was a violin, a new one. Sarah’s old one was destroyed by some boy a few months back, and Kath had saved every cent she could to get her another one. Sarah turned to her girlfriend with glee, hugging her tightly. Sarah nuzzled her face into Katherine’s hair, pressing a small kiss to the top of Kath’s head. Kath blushed slightly, pulling Sarah away, looking up at her with a wide smile. “Okay! Okay! What's yours?”
Sarah took a breath, getting out of her side of the bed and going in front of Katherine. “Kathy… Four years ago we met at one of my concerts and I was instantly smitten. I was in love with your eyes, your smile, your laugh, your freckles, your everything… And then you asked me out, I couldn't have been more overjoyed. We shared our first kiss in your car when you drove me home, here in my driveway.” Sarah laughed a bit, taking in Katherine’s stunned look.
“And, tonight,” she glanced at the clock, at how it now read midnight.“Christmas Day, I must ask something of you.” Sarah dug into her pocket, getting down on a single knee. She opened a velvet box, revealing her gift.
Inside was a gorgeous yellow band, with a diamond cut as a heart in the middle.
Kath couldn't contain her tears.
“Will you, Katherine Plumber-Pulitzer, make me the happiest woman alive and marry me?” Sarah asked, voice cracking, face wet with tears.
“Yes!” Kath exclaimed, voice at least one octave higher, for sure. Sarah smiled, sliding the ring on her new fiancée’s finger before standing up. Katherine pulled her into a long kiss, enjoying the moment with the taller girl as if it was the last moment she’d ever have with her Sarah.
The cookies were long forgotten. Instead the night was filled with kisses, cuddling, and I love you’s.

Phanfic finder fest (part 3) - Card 2, Fics I am aware of
Click here for part 1. Click here for part 2.
This is my second second card and a list of fics that I am already aware of. This was so so fun, and I can’t wait to finish the final part, which will be this second card but with fics that are new to me.
Tumblr media
1. Coffee
the sun a souvenir (E, 11k) by deletable_bird - this fic is such a delight! It’s witty and funny and very sincere, Dan is so relatable and so lovable in this story, and his relationship with Louise is just adorable beyond words. Coffee plays a very central part in this story, along with paint and very awkward and lovely flirting. Give this a read, it’s absolutely great!
2. Vibrator
a ticket of the possibilities (M, 1.4k) by @callofthecurlew - an adorable fic about Dan looking at sex toys with Phil back in 2010. It’s just the right balance of funny and sweet and sexy, and has so many little details about their reactions to each other. I just love it so much!
3. Fic with a secondary pairing
December 4: purely by coincidence (G, 1.4k) by @alittledizzy - a phimmy AU because honestly we all need it. This fic makes the relationship seem so natural and so obvious, that it takes a minute to realize that it’s not how life turned out to be. There is something so inherently magical about Phil and Jimmy together, and I feel this story captures it perfectly.
4. Intercrural
Connected (M, 3.5k) by @auroraphilealis - a fic about Dan being young, in love and desperate for something they aren’t ready for and Phil being also young, in love and desperate, but feeling the responsibility of keeping his boyfriend safe and satisfied. I really love this fic because it just exudes young desperate love and that fire that a new relationship has. Plus, it’s so beautifully written and so emotional.
5. Cheating
sweet dreams (T, 1.9k) by @waveydnp - there’s no actual cheating in this fic, but I feel it’s still a really good fit for the prompt, because it really dives into what cheating is for different people and how communication in a partnership is important. The depth of this fic is absolutely stunning, and I definitely recommend this story to anyone who hasn’t read it yet.
6. Soulmates
paint it on your face (M, 574) by @onedirectionticketss1 (whatdoiknowx) - soulmates come in different shapes and sizes. This definitely really encapsulates the whole “Dan and Phil, best friends and soulmates” in a really really original way. An absolute treat to read, strongly recommend this one!
7. Warlock/magic au
just once to be lifted strong (T, 26k) by @leblonde - this is one of those fics that I couldn’t possibly describe adequately. If you haven’t read it, you need to do it ASAP. The fantasy elements in it are woven into the story so seamlessly and so gracefully, the characters are both absolutely novel and incredibly in character, and the whole story is just so musical and beautiful that now words can describe it.
8. ft. Martyn and Cornelia
Let Go Of The Reins (T, 81k) by @natigail - there are hundreds of amazing fics featuring Martyn and Cornelia in the phandom, but I really wanted to choose a kind of unexpected fic for this category and landed on this one. This is a horse riding AU, and I think it’s an absolutely stellar example of how meaningful and emotional you can make a relationship between siblings be. The brotherly love that Phil and Martyn share here is deep, real and very difficult and complex, much as it is in real life. The fic really goes deep into both Martyn’s and Cornelia’s character, and it’s just such a pleasure to read.
9. Songfic insp. by Lana del Rey
who you are and who you've been (T, 4.4k) by @kay-okays - aaah this fic is just absolutely perfect. I love how the conversation they are having is so so important, but it’s set up to be so lively and real with a little bit of mischief and so much delicate hesitation that you have when you’re in a new relationship that’s just making you so so happy. It’s like Dan kind of doesn’t believe in a way that you can be this happy. I just love it, such a beautiful fic!
10. Set in 2009
Turn and Face the Strange (NR, 2k) by @tortitabby - this 2009 fic really focuses on Phil’s relationship with Kath and the overwhelming love she has for her child. It’s very nuanced and very touching, and I really encourage everyone to give it a read, you won’t regret it!

Terry Kath's Untimely Death
Terry Kath's Fate
Tumblr media
Terry Alan Kath was born on January 31st, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He is most notably known for having been one of the founding members of the band Chicago.
Terry was born to Raymond Elmer and Evelyn Meline Haugen. He had an older brother named Rod, and was raised in the Norwood Park area of Chicago. He was of German, English, and Scandinavian descent.
His brother Rod played the drums, and his mother played the banjo, which he tried to learn for himself. In the 9th grade, Terry acquired a guitar and amplifier. His influences included The Venture, Johnny Smith, Dick Dale, and Howard Roberts, then later was influenced by George Benson, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix.
Kath attended Rufus M. Hitch Public School, Taft High School, and DePaul University.
Tumblr media
Some of his favorite movies included ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Fantasia’.
Unlike several other members of Chicago, Kath did not recieve much formal music training, and was mostly self taught. In a 1971 interview with 'Guitar Player', he stated that he had tried professional lessons, but abandoned them because "All I wanted to do was play those rock and roll chords". According to one source, Terry also didn’t read music.
Kath's father wanted him to have a steady career, but Terry preferred a career in music.
In 1963, Terry joined his first semi professional band, called 'The Mystics'. He later moved on to ‘Jimmy Rice and the Gentlemen' n 1965. From there, he went to play bass in a road band called 'Jimmy Ford and the Executives', which featured band members Danny Seraphine and Walter Parazaider, who would later join him in the band Chicago. In 1966, he joined the cover band the ‘Missing Links’, and started playing in clubs and ballrooms on a regular basis. Parazaider’s friend Lee Loughnane, would play with the band from time to time, as a trumpeter. Terry recieved an offer from James William Guercio to play bass for the ‘Illinois Speed Press’, another band from Chicago, and move to Los Angeles. Kath declined the offer as he considered the guitar his main instrument and wanted to sing lead vocals.
Tumblr media
According to Peter Cetera, the band was booked to perform at Woodstock in 1969, but promoter Bill Graham rescheduled them to play at the Fillmore West on a date of his choosing, which was the Woodstock dates. Santana took Chicago’s place at Woodstock, with this performance being considered his breakthrough gig. parents’ basement. Eventually, they added singer and bassist Peter Cetera.
In June of 1968, at the request of James Guercio, who had become their producer, the band moved to Los Angeles. The band moved and signed with Columbia Records, changing their named to ‘Chicago Transit Authority’. They started performing on a regular basis at the ‘Whisky a Go Go’ in West Hollywood, which gave them more exposure, and became opening acts for Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix is quoted as having said about the band,
“Jeez, your horn players are like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me.”.
---
In 1969, the band released their first album, self titled as ‘Chicago Transit Authority’, which was a double album. It made number 17 on the billboard 200, and had sold over 1 million copies by 1970, being awarded with a platinum disc. Singles from the album included “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”, “Beginnings”, “Questions 67 and 68”, and “I’m a Man”. That same year, they were awarded with the ‘Best New Artist of The Year’ from the Grammys.

In 1970, the band released their second album, technically also self titled, known as ‘Chicago’. The album has since become referred to as ‘Chicago II’. The second album was also a double album, and went straight to the top ten in its second week on the Billboard chart, before its single had even gotten to the Hot 100. Singles from the album include ‘Make Me Smile’, which Terry sung on, and the titular ‘25 or 6 to 4’. The album quickly went gold, then eventually platinum.

Singles from the album include ‘Make Me Smile’, which Terry sung on, and the titular ‘25 or 6 to 4’. The album quickly went gold, then eventually platimum.
On January 11th, 1971, Chicago released their third album, ‘Chicago III’, which was yet another double album. The band was described as ‘fatigued and road-weary’ by Danny Seraphine, when they went in the studio to record. The album sold well on its release, going gold only a month later. Singles from this album include “Free” and “Lowdown”. Terry is credited as having written the songs “I Don’t Want Your Money”, and “An Hour in The Shower”, and sang on the songs “Loneliness is Just a Word”, “Free”, and of course “An Hour in The Shower”.
On July 10th, 1972, the band released their first single release album, “Chicago V”. It was their fourth studio album, which featured singles “Saturday in the Park”, and “Dialogue (Part I & II)”. The album is considered a ‘back to basics’ type album, with it resembling their first album more. Terry is credited with having written the song “Alma Mater”, which he also sung. Terry also sang on the songs “Now that You’ve Gone’, and the dialogues.
The album was recorded at Caribou Ranch, a studio built by James Guerico that same year, in Colorado. It was on the road that lead to the ghost town of Caribou, CO. Chicago would record their next four records here. Terry loved Caribou Ranch it was an hour out of Denver, 8,600 feet above sea level. The studio burned down in a fire in March of 1985.
Tumblr media
On June 25th, 1973, Chicago released ‘Chicago VI’, another single release album. It was certified gold less than month after release, and has been certified platinum twice. Terry wrote and song both songs “Jenny” and “Beyond All Our Sorrow”, which was only included on the 2002 reissue as a demo. He is credited for also singing on the song “Something in This City Changes People”.
Also in 1973, Terry played lead guitar and sang the lead vocals on the closing song “Tell Me” for the 1973 drama movie ‘Electra Glide in Blue’. The song was also used on the final episode of tv series ‘Miami Vice’. Members of Chicago also appeared in the Electra Glide movie.
Chicago released their sixth album, “Chicago VII” on March 11th, 1974. It was their first double album since 1971 and incorporated more jazz instrumentals. This incited various reactions from their audience, though the band enjoyed the experience. Peter Cetera and their producer James Guercio were wary of the commerical risk of the jazz sessions. The band was relatively divided on the jazz material, with some feeling that it was too good to throw away, though other wanted to incorporate more pop and rock material. Singles from the album include “(I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long”, “Call On Me”, and “Wishing You Were Here”. It is the only album for having writing contributions from all band members.
Terry is credited with having written “Song of the Evergreens”, and “Byblos” of which the latter he sung on. Terry also sang on the single “Wishing You Were Here”. The album went gold on March 18th1974, and platinum in 1986.
Tumblr media
On March 24th, 1975, Chicago released their seventh studio album, “Chicago VIII”. After five straight years of constant activity, the band was feeling drained when they went to record the album in the summer of 1974. The album was recorded within the timespan of only August through September of 1974. The album went with a more rock sound, and included the singles “Harry Truman”, “Old Days”, and “Brand New Love Affair”. The inside of the original album included an iron on t shirt decal of the album cover, and a poster of the and in station wagon being pulled over by police.
Terry is credited with having written the songs “Till We Meet Again”, “Oh Thank You Great Spirit”, and “Sixth Sense”, which the latter was only released on the Rhino Box Set Bonus Tracks in 2002. Terry sang on “Brand New Love Affair”, “Till We Meet Again”, “Oh Thank You Great Spirit”, and “Aint It Blue?”.
Despite being rated 2 stars out of 5 by Allmusic, the average fan rating of the album in 3.5 stars. It also peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200.
On June 14th, 1976. Chicago released their eighth studio album, “Chicago X”. It was their eight studio album though their tenth overall including live and compilation albums. It was ceritified gold a week after release, and made number 3 on the Billboard 200. On September 14th, 1976, the album was certified multi platinum. In honor of this, the band was awarded a 25 pound bar of pure platinum, made by Cartier, a French jewelery manufacturing company. The album was nominated for a Grammy for ‘Album of the Year’, to which it won.
Tumblr media
Singles include “Another Rainy Day in New York City”, “You Are on My Mind”, and “If You Leave Me Now”, which was the band’s first number one single. The song went on to win two Grammys. The song was almost left off the album, after being completed last, and Terry himself wasn’t too big on the song either. Terry didn’t like the increased emphasis on ballads on the album.
Some members of the band felt that the single changed the public perception of the band, leading Columbia Records demanding mor ballads from the band. Robert Lamm and Terry Kath were most notibly uncomfortable with this change of events.
Terry is credited with having written “Once or Twice”, and “Hope For Love”, having sang both of these songs.
The band released “Chicago XI”, their ninth studio album, on September 12th, 1977. It would be last album to have Terry Kath on it, and James Guercio as producer. Singles from this album include “Baby, What a Big Surprise”, “Little One”, and “Take Me Back to Chicago”. Terry is credited with writing “Takin’ It on Uptown”, and “Mississippi Delta City Blues”, which he also sang on. He’s credited with also singing on the songs “Prelude (Little One)” and “Little One”.
---
Terry had a self admitted history of drug and alcohol abuse. Danny Seraphine knew that Terry had a high tolerance for drugs, and reclled Terry telling him, “I’m going to get things under control... if I don’t, this stuff is going to kill me.”.
Fellow bandmates of Chicago have indicated that Terry was growing increasingly unhappy, though Pankow denies that Kath was suicidal. Pankow remembered in the liner notes of Chicago Box:
“His relationship was not going well. He was also certainly more dependent on chemicals than he should have been. He wasn’t addicted to anything, but he was abusing drugs. We were all doing drugs at that stage of the game. But if you’re incredibly unhappy and depressed and doing the drugs on top of that, it compounds the situation.”
The night before Terry died, he visited bandmate Laudir de Oliveira, who offered him tea, and the two spent all night talking. Producer James Guercio insisted that Terry was finishing writing a solo album.
By 1978, Terry was regularly carrying guns around and enjoyed target shooting. On January 23rd, after a party at the home of band tech Don Johnson, Terry began to play with his guns. He spun his .38 revolver on his finger, put it to his temple, and pulled it to the trigger. The gun at this point wasn’t loaded.Initially, there was a sigh of relief. Johnson warned Terry several times to be careful. Kath then picked up a semi automatic 9mm pistol and while leaning back in a chair said to Johnson, “Don’t worry about it... look, the clip is not even in it.”. Terry’s last words were, “What do you think I’m gonna do? Blow my brains out?”. Terry then showed the empty mag. He replaced the mag in the gun, and put it to his temple, pulling the trigger. Unknown to him, there was a round in the chamber, and the shot killed him instantly. It was 8 days before his 32nd birthday.
He left behind his 20 month old daughter Michelle, and girlfriend Camelia Emily Ortiz.
Tumblr media
Terry is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Parkm in Los Angeles California. He was 31.
In 1982 his mother passed away, and his father passed away in 2003. Both of his parents are interred next to him.
---
When Terry passed away, the surviving members of Chicago were utterly devastated, and thought about ending the band. Ultimately, they continued on, and he was initially replaced with Donnie Dacus on their next album ‘Hot Streets’, which was released in 1980. This album explored more disco themes, had the singles ‘Alive Again’, ‘No Tell Lover’, and ‘Gone Long Gone’.
It was their first album to feature the band members on the cover, and have a title that wasn’t the band name, something that wouldn’t happen again until 1991.
---
In 2016, Terry’s daughter Michelle released a documentary that talked about and was in tribute to her father. The movie, “Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience” is available to watch for free on amazon. For Kath ( @kathwolfie ) Museum featuring MatsuDai. This fic has been inspired by this and this. Hope you like it! :)
Matsukawa is very satisfied with the reception he’s been receiving in one of his social media platform. Filming the reactions of strangers as he randomly approach them and try to narrate their lives, in the funniest context he could think of, had started off as a dare from Hanamaki.
He wasn’t expecting for anything to come of it, initially, since he doesn’t have that much social media presence. But then, the first video had become a hit, and he received comments about how it was awesome, and how the people he found are hilarious as well. Along with more variations of those, are about wanting to see more of it or hope that he does it again.
And well, this is the most famous Matsukawa has been in his entire life, and he thinks that it’s not probably going to last long, so he actually does.
Besides, he actually did enjoy doing it and filming people’s reactions, except for a few others who don’t share his sense of humor. Overall, five compilation videos of short clips about him narrating people’s lives, he’s somehow become a household name in said social media platform, and people are actually looking forward to his videos.
Which admittedly puts a lot of pressure on someone as generally chill as him.
It’s getting kind of worse now, since he feels like he’s already running out of ideas. It’s been easy to spot strangers doing normal things, (some of them, strange things), and it’s interesting to piece a story about it, but he feels like people will eventually get tired of the same way he’s been finding these people.
So instead of hitting his usual haunts, like the park and the mall, he decides to change the environment. Somewhere not typical, somewhere unexpected.
A museum seem like a perfect place. He has a healthy respect for the visual arts though and knows that people would probably won’t appreciate something as random as what he’s going to do, so he decides to hit a Geological Museum instead.
There aren’t a lot of people inside when he got there, and as much as he thought that it me a lost cause, he decides to stay anyway. After all, the museum’s collection of rocks were impressive and amazing.
He gets to the section where they have the precious stones displayed, and there he sees a guy, his back facing Matsukawa, while his arms, Matsukawa assumes, are crossed in front of him as he studies the stones with keen interest. He’s wearing a fitted shirt and its doing a great job of showing off his toned arms.
Matsukawa didn’t know that he’s got a thing for arms until he sees the guy. He immediately whips out his phone from his pocket, launches the app, and goes to where the man is standing.
“He’s standing there,” Matsukawa starts, and the guy looks up at him in surprise. He’s got a nice face to match those nice arms, and Matsukawa almost chokes on what he’s going to say, but he continues, “Thinking how his arms are more precious than these stones.”
The guy snorts, and the sides of his eyes crinkle in something akin to mirth. “They’re attached to my body, so of course they are,” he says just in time as the app stops recording.
Matsukawa definitely meant something different, but he’ll go with that. It still makes a good conversation starter.
“Hey, thanks man. I’m Matsukawa, by the way.”
The guy shrugs. “No problem. I’m Sawamura.”

Review: Don Diablo @ Echostage
Tumblr media
Don Diablo returned to Echostage February 17th for his first ever headlining show with special guest Lost Frequencies. The line to enter the venue extended pretty far down the road, and soon enough, both the floor and the balcony were packed with fans ready for an amazing set.
The powerful lights and enormous speakers created a fully immersive experience. Sometimes colorful lasers pulsed to the beat and other times a bright white light illuminated the entire venue as if it was midday. Don Diablo was center stage with a hoodie sweatshirt that featured a lit up hexagon on the chest and lines down the sleeves which flashed in sync with the music. His face was always visible thanks to red and blue lights pointed to him, which helped the audience connect with the man behind the booth. There were even a couple confetti bursts if the drop was *that* good.
Don Diablo uses many positive messages in his songs, and overall his music just makes you feel good. One track off his new album reminds us that “everybody’s somebody and nobody’s nobody.”
Later on in the set, the DJ got up to stand on his booth, trying not to step on anything too important. Mic in hand, he began a call and response of “Right Here / Right Now” to introduce his song Momentum.
Don Diablo waited until near the end to play his 2016 hit Cutting Shapes, which received positive reactions from the crowd, especially because he brought out the dancer from the multimillion view music videos, Gabby David.
By the time it hit about 2:00 am, Don Diablo told us this was his longest live set ever and that all of his shows on tour, including that one, have been sold out.
After the incredibly long set was finished, the audience began to chant “one more song.” Soon after, Don Diablo came back out with his signature skeleton sweatshirt zipped all the way up, almost covering his face. He played a remix of Post Malone’s “Rockstar” to round out the night.
Don Diablo at Echostage is the optimal show if you want to dance for hours on end around people that appreciate feel-good EDM.
