bad news, mustache, I don't know how to draw you, so you'll have to go.
FH: Rebirth version of Ricardo Ortega.
Modified version of the last one *smh*.
Don't mind my babbling on him and Cy in Rebirth under the cut.
Talking vague about spoiler-ish stuff just in case.
Good thing there is an actual time line on this. Let's see:
Upon capture Cyrus’ first feelings wouldn’t be anger at Ortega for not coming for him. In his head, as usual, he fucked up and now Ricardo’s suffering over a lost friend (sure Cy has low self-esteem, but he’s not daft, he knows how attachment works, he knows Ortega would hurt over both Anathema and him). So self-bashing is the first resort.
It would be various types of feelings after that going in circles. From fear over whether they told Ortega who Cy was, to anger over no one coming for him, to shame over not telling Ricardo the truth.
So when he escaped, Cyrus decided he’s not bothering Ortega who seemed to have moved on and good for him. He missed Ortega tho. A lot.
So meeting in the diner was… nice. And scary. Cause Cyrus physically can’t outright lie to Ortega.
Cyrus should’ve been annoyed for being dragged to HQ to help the team (god knows, I’m still pissed at the “Omg, my best friend who I thought dead for 7 years, you are alive! C’mon, I have a job for you!” behavior), but Cyrus was
a) terrified
b) too used to the role of a tool
So he couldn’t push back, and annoyance for being used like that came later. Which he showed during their next meeting. But still gave the bastard a hug. Couldn’t help it.
Never the less, walk in the park lead to an argument (fuck, I love that scene) and even though Cyrus simmered down, he gave Ortega nothing and left. Because let’s be honest, any info he’d give at that point would lead to even more questions, that would compromise Cy’s secrets.
Behind the secrets lies the truth and there are two possible outcomes to it:
being accepted for who he is, which sounds nice and wholesome
the only person he cares about turning away from him
And the later one would be absolutely unbearable. Just thinking about it brings about so much terror. To the point he’d literally die first before risking seeing the actual outcome on that coin flip.
Can’t see Cyrus going anywhere close to the big truth around Ortega. He'd rather just stay away.
Cy’s secret crush is such spice when he has to interact with Ortega through Eden. For Cyrus to see what it’s like to be on the receiving end of Ricardo’s interest, with (almost) no obstacles in the way...
He doesn’t like that he has to be in someone else’s body for it though.
One thing for sure, he doesn’t feel the persistent fear around Ortega when he’s in Eden.
So fighting Ortega in earnest was… cathartic.
Plus, no confusion, where they stand. He was just an enemy. And a good fight. The only one who posed a problem.
Too bad Ortega is a stubborn bastard. Being free of some of the basic fears, Cyrus didn’t hold back.
Neither in combat nor in words. A moment of hesitation lead to a heartfelt monolog. Which brought Cyrus enough anger to finally knock the man out.
He regretted beating him up so badly, of course. Went to the hospital (to get another reason to beat himself over, I guess) and couldn’t help but give him a peck on the forehead. Which, apparently, gives Ortega too much room for assumptions.
I imagine it’s gonna get really complicated
if Ortega can help it

[spoilers for FH Retribution!]
one thing that I thought was really cute in fallen hero retribution is that if you’re NB in the first game, that’ll also make Anathema NB to match, which THEN reveals in the second game that being along Sidestep helped them understand their own gender identity which is like really sweet augghh…. and feels a nice kinship with with Sidestep bc they’re one of the few openly NB heroes at the time godddd ANATHEMAAAAAAAAAAA

💦, 🌹, 🌲
💦 If you as the writer could erase one traumatic event from this OC’s life what would it be and why?
JONAH - Do we have to? Do we really even have to ask?
Hows this: Keep Heartbreak, but Anathema lives. Can you imagine FH but Anathema lived? Sidestep never would have had a chance.
🌹 Where in the world does your OC feel most at home? Is there any reason why? If it’s not the place they were born, where were they born? Is there a certain somebody that makes them feel at home where ever they may be? What does home mean to them?
STERLING - (Oh God a non-Sidestep OC) The currently-nameless Antique Shop in Limerick, ostensibly the HQ of his cult organization. It's where he ran to after he escaped his old cult, and the first place he was ever fully recognized as a man, no questions asked. That's what home should be, somewhere you're accepted for who you are.
He was born in a Gaeltacht in west Ireland, specifically Cill Rónáin. He ran away out east when he was 13 though, that's when he got picked up by the first cult.
Marcus (@swordsandspectacles's oc) is a solid contender for "making him feel at home wherever they are", but apparently not enough for him to stay loyal to him :')))))))
🌲 How deeply does your OC feel? Are they typically empathetic or do they have a hard time connecting with others in this way? What are they like when offering support and comfort to someone they care for?
VARRO - Is empathetic, but she's always had trouble connecting with humans people. A lot less so after Heartbreak when she starts viewing them more as pawns to be manipulated.
Offering support is... She's bad at it. She openly admits to being bad at it. If she actually cares about you she's most likely to just grab you by the shoulders and shake you. Like, you're better than this! You know you're better than this!

thinking about fh dnd classes and here's my list (some homebrew is used, dw its linked :] ) (also this is about them as people, not who they would play in a theoretical game)
Ortega: Battlemaster Fighter. I briefly considered monk for their hand to hand combat style but the tactical techniques of battlemaster and how some of them allow you to help your teammates fit much better
Chen: War Cleric. HERE ME OUT OKAY. Obvious fighter fits him and all but war cleric are incredibly strong and have a ton of buffs. Specifically the fact that his armor was the only thing that could power the dampeners during heartbreak feels like a war cleric. Also the fact that Ortega was marshal instead of him. This doesn't mean he's weaker though, if you've ever played/played with a war cleric you know they're BUSTED
Anathema: Acid dragonborn Barbarian, Path of the Favored. I considered sorcerer but i felt that barbarian fits their tankyness better. One of the abilities is "Favored Presence" which works well with their charm and how people tend to be endeared to them.
Herald: Paladin, Oath of the Crown. This one's from the swordcoast! Shout out to my dear @radioactive-mouse, this one's all him. It's the devotion and the being a hero and being nice but honey when you look at the contract, you work for the government, not the people.
Argent: Barbarian, Path of the Mutant. Kind of a weird one (we did consider eldritch knight) but this one fits her intensity in battle and incredibly impulsive choices (bailing from the party, chasing you down in the sewers, the bridge fight). Also how motivated by anger she can be and how absolutely relentless she is. Path of the Mutant allows you to modify your body during combat to gain an edge, which she literally does its great. (also it fits her backstory and shit)
Dr. Mortum: Armorer Artificer. Come on, what were you expecting? I could have gone with wizard, probably transmutation, but this one is just so perfect.
Finally Sidestep is kinda a weird one, cause it really depends on the step. A very sneaky tactician step might be an arcane trickster rouge, whereas a bombastic and flashy step might be a champion fighter out of pure style. Hell, they could even be a paladin considering the training heroes route and anarchist route!
those are my general ideas but if you have others or disagree, please share them! i would love to here what other people think of fh dnd classes
