ateez watching indian movies with you
Tumblr media
author's note: i'm a brown atiny who majored in film aka bollywood/indian movies are a huge part of my identity— i was watching kal ho naa ho the other night nd was thinking abt whether or not atz would watch indian movies w me and what their reactions would be. also, i def missed a huge chunk of movies so pls excuse me ehe
taglist: @k-hotchoisan @eyeryis @sinnarols @aaasia111 @sunshineangel-reads apply for the permanent taglist here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hongjoong: this poor baby he's so dedicated to his work but would do his best to make time for the two of you to watch a three hour long indian movie with you, only to fall asleep part way through. he'd last the first 10-15 minutes then pass out, and if you're watching a south indian film, he'll immediately wake tf up when a gun goes off or during the first fight scene. he'd really want to watch rrr with you but fully fall asleep, only to be scared awake during the scene with ntr jr (bheem) wrestling the tiger and be scared shitless from there. however, if you're watching a romcom? gl bc the man is definitely fully asleep and will wake up at the end and say, "that was good i enjoyed it!" you want to be mad at him, but he looks so well rested that you're glad he enjoyed the movie in some way, shape, or crazy form. but fr he'd love the movies that are super detailed and conceptual like if he watched pushpa: the rise, he's definitely highly anticipating pushpa: the rule. he's a 2 part film kinda guy imo he loves the long development and the intensive research and the dedication a director puts into his work. i think he's a rajamouli guy for sure. maybe even like sholay, lagaan, english vinglish— you get the idea.
Tumblr media
seonghwa: seonghwa's a super emotional audience member— everything affects him so deeply, especially scenes with heartbreak or little kids. like, the scene in kuch kuch hota hai where kajol (anjali) finds out that srk (rahul) is in love with rani mukherji (tina) and she's just sobbing and then the song plays? hwa is fully sobbing. he's like clinging to you and drying his eyes and you're patting his back while whispering "it's just a movie it's okay" but it's not okay because unrequited love HURTS. he's definitely more of a bollywood romcom person and probably will want to binge all of srk's movies with you one night, and during the most romantic songs, he'll stand up and copy the iconic srk stance (you know the one with his arms stretched out and then the female lead runs into his arms) and he'll 100% expect you to run into his arms. he's a karan johar bitch fr... either karan johar or yrf. i feel like he wouldn't really vibe with south indian films and end up preferring the sappy, bollywood romcom. but, he's totally an indian serial slut and would binge everything like there's no tomorrow (yeh rishta, iss pyaar ko kya naam doon?, bade achhe lagte hain, and so on) but in terms of movies, he'd love kabhi alvida naa kehna, kabhi kushi khabi gham, kal ho naa ho, dostana, kuch kuch hota hai, chalte chalte (just call him an srk stan and move on).
Tumblr media
yunho: one word: golmaal. he would love the shit outta rohit shetty i'm telling you. like, yes, he appreciates the fine cinema that comes from india, but rohit shetty's got him rolling on the floor in fits. yunho gives such bakwas indian movie vibes but we're here for it— like, the dumbassary in golmaal 2 is everything to him, and chennai express would send him into fits (especially the drunk srk scene). he'd also 100% get up on his feet and start dancing to the upbeat songs in the films more than anything, though, he would fully make fun of the super dramatic scenes with the bawling and sobbing— and i'm not talking about truly tragic scenes but like when the sadness is overdramatic and it suddenly starts raining while the main character is crying (specifically the song tujhe yaad na meri aayee from kuch kuch hota hai) so it's safer to stick to the dumb funny movies... maybe give good newwz a whirl
Tumblr media
yeosang: yeosangie is happy to do anything and everything with you even if he knows the movie will confuse the shit outta him. you'd probably start the guy off on the sequel to a movie (my brain immediately went don 2 or dhoom 2) and he'll be so mad confused the whole time, so he'll keep asking you questions during the movie because he wants to be just as invested in it as you are. more than anything, though, he's more invested in you explaining the movie because of how passionately you talk about the plot and the characters and the dialogue— you might as well forego the movie and just describe the movie to him while spooning in bed. that being said, he'd probably also rewatch the movie a couple of times to fully wrap his head around the film now that he's acquired your commentary and can pair it with the visuals in the film. either that or the poor thing would fall asleep... but he'd fall asleep on your shoulder and just sink into your embrace so fuck the movie just cuddle and take a nap while armaan malik sings in the background
Tumblr media
san: san is such a wild card imo but let's be real i feel like he'd be such a horndog while watching movies so it doesn't even matter what movie you put on he'll only be half present, especially if the don series or race series or lust stories is playing oh dear god don't show this man cocktail if you want to actually watch a movie with you... or pathaan dear lord help BUT i feel like he'd be more interested in the family related movies— like where family is everything so k3g, ala vaikunthapurramuloo, bomarillu, chillar party, main hoon na, tararumpum, etc. also maybe even the ones about friendship, so zindagi naa milegi dobara, 3 idiots, dil chahta hai, jaane tu ya jaane na, rang de basanti, kai po che— again, the wildest of cards. he'd be down to see anything honestly. anything for his love wink wonk
Tumblr media
mingi: god this boy i feel like he would ask all the questions in the world like every other dialogue it's just another question (but they're all related to the movie so it's... okay?) but he just won't have the patience to wait for the next scene to answer his question. no, he wants to know from you so movies like 83, chak de india, dil bole hadippa, paan singh tomar, jersey (BUT THE TELUGU ONE JFC NOT THE HINDI ONE I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH), dangal, basically any sports movie would be best for him because most of his questions would be about the sport so there's no chance of you spoiling the movie for him but i feel like he'd also be a huge priyanka chopra fan but some of her filmography is........ traumatizing? confusing? i'm thinking fashion specifically for trauma while what's your raashee? is just so unbelievably confusing. he'd also like deepika padukone, alia bhaat, samantha, rashmika— as long as she's pretty and a talented actress, mingi's gonna vibe
Tumblr media
wooyoung: indian movies are his jam imo he'd get up on his feet every single song and dance his heart out even if the song is super duper sad (man's is fully dancing to naatu naatu but then also sadly jamming to komuram bheemudo two seconds later the duality is insane). his favorite actors are definitely allu arjun, vijay, hrithik roshan, varun dhawan, tamannaah— and he would rewatch the shit outta abcd and dhoom 2 because the dance numbers are truly impeccable. movies like abcd, rab ne bana di jodi, chance pe dance are right up his alley but i also feel like he'd have fun watching bunty aur babli, jhoom barabar jhoom, race gurram, etc. he's a happy-go-lucky kinda movie guy, imo
Tumblr media
jongho: jongho's the type to be super judgmental but like in the best way possible. he sits and watches the movie quietly with his arms crossed over his chest and his eyebrows furrowed. super quiet and super serious. you sneak glances at him every so often but you seriously can't tell what's going on in his head until he debriefs you after the movie is done, which could go one of two ways: he spares your feelings and tells you he likes the movie (if you tell him that this movie is your most favorite movie in the world) or be completely straightforward with you and dive into an in-depth film analysis. i feel like he'd prefer the movies with gorgeous soundtracks though and want to learn to sing some of the songs (we hate kabir singh in this house but bekhayali would shake his world, and fanaa oh lord he would love that ost with all of his heart... maybe even the main hoon na ost) but lordy any ost with sid sriram is his JAM

Chaiyya Chaiyya {SRK/Salman Khan OS}
Salman didn't plan on this but it just happened in a spur of a moment. Him being in Dubai at the same time as Shah Rukh, who is there to promote his latest film - 'Dunki'. Salman does not realise until he is on his way back to the airport and notices all the buzz of SRK around Dubai.
"Arre bhai, woh Shah Rukh ji ki movie ki promotion chal rahi hai na, nayi wali." His assistant must've noticed his eyes taking in the view which promotes him to answer his unasked question. Then it hits him that of course, SRK would be here, for Dunki. SRK stopped promoting his movies in India and for good reason.
"Promotion chal raha hai?"
"Haan woh aaj event hai na, abhi chal raha hoga." Salman hums at the response and ponders over it.
"Aik kaam karo, event pe le chalo." Everyone in the car are surprised, even Shera, even though at this point he shouldn't be.
"Bhai, aapki flight..."
"Event par le chalo." The finality in his words is enough to silence everyone in the car. The car changes direction to head towards the hotel where event is taking place.
Salman does not have a plan, nor he knows why he is going there right now but he just feels like that he wants to be there right now. Reasons, they don't matter right now.
Once closer to the hotel, Salman asks to be taken from the quieter route, not the press filled area. Once at the hotel entrance, Salman along with Shera and his other assistant start to go inside the hotel from the back entrance. Salman doesn't need any introduction and as it's SRK's event gate crashing doesn't seem to be an issue either especially when Salman is actually trying not to draw attention to himself.
SRK's team member spots Salman Khan and is surprised to see him there but welcomes him. Salman just says he is there to convey his wishes to the team of Dunki. He roams around upper floor and finds the spot where he can see the promotions and stage clearly without drawing attention on himself.
He is just in time to see Shah performing his most famous dance 'Chaiyya Chaiyya'. He has seen SRK in his full energy, performing on various songs, dance steps but when he performs on Chaiyya Chaiyya, it's always a different kind of energy.
Salman does not even notices when he holds up his phone and starts to record Shah performing on Chaiyya Chaiyya. Even at this age SRK on stage is a complete power house, his movements, his smile. his energy... no wonder he is known as King of Bollywood. The performances isn't long but it has definately left crowd wanting more. Salman stops the recording as the performance ends, not sure why he recorded in the first place.
"Bhai... green room mein chalna hai?" Shera asks him as at least 2-3 members from SRK team already asked Shera about it. Something changes in Salman's mood and he knows it's time to go.
"Nahi.. Chalo, chalte hain airport." Shera barely blinks before nodding.
"Jaane se pehle... mujhe koi paper dena." Shera arranges for the paper and pen from the hotel and hands it to Salman. Who writes a brief note and hands it to Shera.
"Shah tak yeh puhunch jaye." Shera nods at this and immediately walks away and Salman makes his way towards the exit slowly. By the time he is by exit, Shera joins in, wordlessly they both get into the car and head towards their destination.
It is after the promotion event ends but the night does not but SRK gets a little break when he sits in green room for few minutes of peace before gearing up for the after party.
"Sir?" One of younger member of Dubai management team who is standing there slightly nervous.
"Hm?"
"Woh yeh.. app ke liye." She holds her hand out with a small paper in her hand. SRK looks at her confused.
"Sir... main nahi... yeh aapke liye, Salman.. sir ne diya hai." SRK is shocked to say the least.
"Hm? Kisne?"
"Salman.. sir."
"Salman... Khan?" The girl nods and SRK is more confused. He takes the note but doesn't open it just looks at the girl for more explanation.
"Woh aye thay yahan par thori dair ke liye, keh rahe thay movie ke liye best wishes aur yeh note dekar chale gaye." taking a deep breath, SRK closes his eyes, nods his head and the girl taking the hint leaves him alone.
Opening his eyes, Shah looks at the note, still not believing what he has heard he decides to open the note.
'Dunki ke liye bohut bohut mubarak ho, dua hai aapko aur bhi kamiyabi mile. - S'
SRK reads and re reads the note few times until the words actually print in his mind. He is still trying to wrap his mind around the fact  Salman was here, and then he left without meeting and now this note. It's not really Salman's behaviour, well, he had his moments but very rare. This moment seems more rare. Shah's brain already hurts from the event and now even more so he just picks up his phone and calls, Salman and his phone is switched off. Sighing, Shah hangs up and looks at the note again and this time he is smiling, wide.
As soon Salman's phone turned on again after landing in Mumbai it does not stop pinging. Salman quickly swipes through notifications when he notices messages notifications from 'Shah'. He opens those messages immediately to read.
'What is this behaviour, Salman?' A laugh escapes from Salman's mouth. Then another message.
'Thank you.'
'I'm still mad at this.'
'Mumbai anay de, phir khabar leta hon.'
'Seriously, thank you.'
Salman smiles at these messages, it's just so Shah. He clicks on reply, types a reply but then deletes it. He does it few times until it's time for him to exit the plane, he quickly types, sends and closes his phone before he changes his mind.
'Aaja.' Message Sent.

Meena Kumari in “Chalte chalte yunhi koi” (“Pakeezah”, 1972)
youtube
Meena Kumari (1933-1972), one of the greatest Indian actresses of the last century, in an iconic scene and song from the classic Indian movie Pakeezah (The Pure One-1972, written, directed, and produced by Kamal Amrohi).
Meena Kumari plays in this movie Sahibjaan, a tawaif. The tawaifs were courtesans who catered to the nobility of the Indian Subcontinent in the Mughal and post-Mughal eras and were trained in music, danse, theater, and Urdu literature. An orphan, Sahibjaan lives since her childhood in a kotha (brothel), but she wants to escape from her fate.
According to the website of the University of Iowa ( https://indiancinema.sites.uiowa.edu/pakeezah ):
““I’ve seen your feet; they’re very lovely. Don’t set them down on the earth—they’ll get soiled.” This metaphorical warning-note, penned by a romantic stranger and left between the toes of a sleeping woman in a railway compartment, forms a much-underscored motif in this classic courtesan film—the final collaboration between the great actress and dancer Meena Kumari and her former husband, actor and director Kamal Amrohi. Like MOTHER INDIA, this film coexists with its own legend involving the offscreen lives of the director and star, who planned it together in the late 1950s but whose marriage broke up around the time that filming began in 1964. Kumari (who was also a talented Urdu poet under the pen name Naaz) then purportedly became an alcoholic, but eventually came back to complete the film shortly before her premature death in 1972; aficionados may try their luck at identifying—from Kumari’s pained and sometimes mask-like face—which scenes were shot when. The central theme of the film is the struggle for respectability of a tawai’if, an Indo-Islamic courtesan trained in poetry, music, and dance—a glamorous “public woman” whose career was to be an elegant companion (and potential lover) to affluent men, but for whom a “respectable” marriage and home was out of the question. Her beautiful feet—apart from being an erotic fetish—represent her mastery of the art of North Indian classical dance or Kathak, which tawai’if’s preserved and nurtured for several centuries. The “earth” that such feet must perforce touch, however, is ruled by patriarchal society with its crippling double-standards, which decreed that respectable women (who lived in parda or seclusion) could seldom be interesting to men, and that interesting women were seldom respectable. All courtesan fiction struggles with this divide, which forms a principal theme of one of the earliest and most famous Urdu novels, Mirza Mohammed Hadi Ruswa’s UMRAO JAN ADA (1905; itself later filmed several times; see notes on UMRAO JAAN). PAKEEZAH offers another variation on the theme.”
See also about Pakeezah the paper of Richard Allen and Ira Brashkar Pakeezah: Dreamscape of Desire, on https://www.academia.edu/36264030/Pakeezah_Dreamscape_of_Desire
In the iconic scene of this video Sahibjaan/Meena Kumari sings and dances for the “villain” of the movie, an aristocrat (Nawab) named Zafar Ali Khan (played by Kamal Kapoor), who wishes to own her. The ambiguities and dynamics of the situation and of the relationship between the two are depicted in excellent way in this scene, which takes place at the Gulabi Mahal (Pink Palace) of Luchnow. According to the paper of Allen and Brashkar:
“The Gulabi Mahal (the Pink Palace) at Lucknow evokes a more rarified atmosphere. In Amrohi’s imagination, the space of the kotha is here fused with the idea of a Greek temple where the central colonnaded performance space doubles as a space of worship to the divine feminine, and discrete spaces are orchestrated in a theatrical hierarchy from the outer court with its fountains at the entrance to the inner sanctum sanctorum, which houses the bedroom of the courtesan, essentially off limits to all but the chosen client, and separated from the main performance space by a lighted causeway between reflecting pools of water. The Pink Palace is a sublime temple of femininity, whose fountains, atriums, reflecting pools form a microcosm of artifice that rivals that of the natural world. Indeed, even the moon appears artful in this landscape and the saturated deep blue sky, a studied backcloth to the whole.”
But, as the same article continues a bit further, the Pink Palace is also a prison for Sahibjaan:
“Meanwhile, for Sahibjaan whose desire for self-fulfillment has been awakened, the Pink Palace becomes a prison. In a metaphor that recurs in the film, and echoes throughout the genre, she is likened to a bird in a gilded cage from which she yearns to escape...
...The quality and texture of her performances for him [the Nawab] are now markedly different from her earlier ones. Gone is the vivacity and vibrancy of an Inhin logon ne or a Thade rahiyo as she mournfully sings the haunting Chalte Chalte, which articulates her desire for freedom and happiness.Yet it also returns us to the pathos of her entrapment in a manner that evokes the equation of the courtesan and the flickering flame that opens the film. At the conclusion of the performance, as she sings Yeh chiraag bujh rahein hain / Mere saath jalte jalte (These lamps are fading / As they burn with me), she hears the screech of a train whistle. It is impossible initially to discern whether it is somewhere physically off-screen or within her mind. The camera cranes upward from the floor to the red chandelier, recalling the red aalta of her feet. The lights darken as the escalating screech of the train whistle resounds through the performance space, taking over the song and abruptly bringing the dance to an end. When the camera cranes down again, the dancers have disappeared from the floor. The camera then tracks forward towards the fountains that abruptly stop playing as the whistling ends. It is as if the space in which she dwells, her erstwhile tomb, is now cut to the measure of her desire. She rushes to the balcony to see the train she has seen before, but this time it is motionless, silhouetted against the sky, almost as if waiting for her to come to her balcony before it can leave.Though real, the train appears as if in a vision, so detached is the spectacle from the space she inhabits. What is finally required for Sahibjaan to escape her sealed world is a transformation of environment and character of a magnitude that challenges the tone in which the film has hitherto been cast.”
The lyrics of Chalte chalte yuhni koi were written by the Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi (1919-2002) and its music was composed years before the release of Pakeezah by Ghulam Mohammed (1903-1968). Although Meena Kumari was also a singer, the voice in the song is of the great Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar (1929-2022).
Unfortunately I couldn’t do anything with the advertisements at the end of the video.
I have found on the net the following transliteration and translation of the lyrics of Chalte chalte yuhni koi:
Chalte chalte, chalte chalte    While walking, while walking
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha    I met someone by chance
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha  I met someone by chance
Sare raah chalte chalte   Walking around the path
Sare raah chalte chalte    Walking around the path
Wahin thamke reh gayi hai  Right there it stood still
Wahin thamke reh gayi hai   Right there it stood still
Meri raat dhalte dhalte    This night of mine, which is fading away
Meri raat dhalte dhalte     This night of mine, which is fading away
Joh kahi gayi na mujhse      What I was unable to say
Joh kahi gayi na mujhse     What I was unable to say
Woh zamaana keh raha hai      The world is saying that
Woh zamaana keh raha hai    The world is saying that
Ke fasana                                A story
Ke fasana ban gayi hai     A story has been created
Ke fasana ban gayi hai      A story has been created
Meri baat chalte chalte      From those words of mine
Meri baat chalte chalte   From those words of mine
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha    I met someone by chance
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha    I met someone by chance
Sare raah chalte chalte      Walking around the path
Sare raah chalte chalte      Walking around the path
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha    I met someone by chance
Sare raah                               Around the path
Chalte chalte, chalte chalte     While walking, while walking
Sare raah                                Around the path
Chalte chalte, chalte chalte       While walking, while walking
Chalte chalte, chalte chalte          While walking, while walking
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha            I met someone by chance
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha            I met someone by chance
Shab-e-intezaar aakhir             The night of waiting
Shab-e-intezaar aakhir              The night of waiting
Kabhi hogi mukhtasar bhi            Will after all shorten soon
Kabhi hogi mukhtasar bhi           Will after all shorten soon
Yeh chirag                                    These lamps
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai              These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai               These lamps are dying
Mere saath jalte jalte                 As they burn alongside me
Mere saath jalte jalte                 As they burn alongside me
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai              These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai                These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai               These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai                These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai                 These lamps are dying
Yeh chirag bujh rahe hai               These lamps are dying
Mere saath jalte jalte                   As they burn alongside me
Mere saath jalte jalte                  As they burn alongside me
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha                   I met someone by chance
Yun hi koi mil gaya tha                I met someone by chance
Sare raah chalte chalte                Walking around the path

The list of places you have to see in this beautiful country changes as the world does. In 2023, here's a sneak peek at some of the best places to visit in Greece for a holiday that you'll remember forever. Greece is a great place to visit, whether you're interested in history, the beach, or food.
Tumblr media
Here are some of the top Greek vacation spots to visit in 2023.
1.Athens: A Blend of Ancient and Modern: After the 2004 Olympics, Athens became one of Greece's most popular tourist attractions because of its jazzy side. Athens, an ancient city, is noted for its modern metro system, clean streets, well-kept parks, excellent roads, and pleasant population. The metropolis of legend and modernity has stunning architecture and historical sites. The city also blends legend with contemporary. The Acropolis and Temple of Zeus are among the many tourist sites in Athens, Greece.
Mount Lycabettus' stunning views, the National Gardens' beautiful flowers, the New Acropolis Museum's priceless artefacts, the Temple of Olympian Zeus' colossal ruins, the ancient Greek temple of Erechtheum, the hills of Ancient Agora, Plaka's historical neighbourhoods, the well-preserved Temple of Hephaestus, the National Archaeological Museum's prehistoric antiques, and Goddess Athena's.
2. Natural Beauty: Beaches and Gorges of Chania: The Old Venetian Harbour in Chania Town is the main attraction. The area has hosted many Hollywood films and TV series due to its distinctive design. Its stone paths and friendly residents make it one of Greece's most popular tourist sites. The lighthouse is in charge of protecting the city's breathtaking views. Romantics and couples often stare towards the water while holding hands.
The Old Venetian Harbour's colourful boats and old architecture, the Botanical Park's manicured lawn, the Chania Archaeological Museum's artefacts, the Chania Venetian Lighthouse, Ancient Aptera's Greek architecture, Iguana Beach, Agii Apostoli Beach's golden sand, Topolia Gorge, and Venetian Fortress are not to be missed.
3. Santorini's Fairytale Landscape: A Cinematic Dream: Tauba tumhare ye ishare" from 2003's "Chalte Chalte" is a masterpiece. It just so happened that Santorini fit that tune. It seems like a fairytale with whitewashed houses, chaotic but lovely little coloured cottages, spiral paths, towering blue domes, and azure lakes and skies. This is attractive. The clifftop houses and hotels add to the area's appeal. One of Greece's most visited islands is Santorini.
Legend says the area's charm, small homes, and beautiful bistros made it renowned. Historic monasteries, churches, cathedrals, monuments, and constructions give the region its particular character. Never miss this Greek destination; try to visit at least once in your lifetime. Skydivers will find it one of Greece's best spots. The Bella Aurora and Thalassa cruise, Skaros Rock views, Amoudi Bay sunsets, Museum of Prehistoric Thera exhibits, Lignos Folklore Museum murals, sailing experience at Santorini, Fira Hiking Trail thrills, Santo Winery wine-tasting tours, Perissa Beach rocky sand, Santorini Volcano beauty, and Ancient Greek ruins should not be missed.
4. Hersonissos: Greece's Premier Port Town: Hersonissos, an old port town, is one of Greece's top tourist attractions. For a full family vacation, this resort has amusement parks, beaches with wonderful sand, museums, historic ruins, and local shopping centres. Fish dishes from Hersonissos are also famous for their freshness. Unpretentious simplicity and rural charm make the town appealing. It is no wonder it is one of Greece's most intriguing locations.
SeaWorld at Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre, Lychnostatis Open Air Museum, Arion Stables, Star Beach Water Park, Labyrinth Theme Park, Cave of Zeus, Cretan Farm, and Vrontisi Monastery should not be missed.
5. Rethymnon: A Venetian Masterpiece in Greece:
Rethymnon, a well-preserved Venetian village, is one of Greece's top tourist sites. The exquisite 16th-century buildings display European and Moorish elements.
