Ella’s Thoughts #17 (Hard/Soft)

Headcanon/Reaction: Stray Kids reacting to you being a virgin.

I have the consensus that they’re all the type to not judge you or give your shit, so think of this as more of a mini thought/headcanon/whatever.

Chan: The most understanding man ever. He would look down at you as he heard your confession after he began lifting your shirt slightly to carress your bare sides, you felt you needed to tell him as you wanted to progress further. Chan would go slow and wouldn’t even make you go fully naked if you’re not comfortable. I also think he’d feel so appreciative for you to let him take away something you’ve held in for so long, even though you had past relationships and such, and you let him to take it away. Your trust means the world to him, so to see you let him in you is probably the best thing. He also gives off as the type to put his pleasures and kinks (might still incorporate corruption kink into the mix but you didn’t hear that from me) to the side, up until you’re more used to doing. But for now, it’s your moment and you’re in charge.

Minho: he would be really chill about it. he’d hear you out and would give you a silent nod as you’re talking. He’ll be sort of silent, but yet really understanding, as he thinks about what he should do with you. he’s very cautious and he needs to analyze you on what you should do. he’s very grabby, so he would hold your body in anyway and would constantly ask you if you’re okay with it. he would also go slow, just like Chan, but i can’t guarantee that he‘d be as gentle and slow as him. while he would still check up on you, he couldn’t really control his motions that much and he would later tend to your sore body. he may seem like a stand-off-ish guy when it comes to affections, but he’s really caring and affectionate in his own way and is often protective of you, so he isn’t letting you go until you’re feeling well and satisfied.

Changbin: another chill individual who doesn’t make it a big deal. he is hyper aware on what to do and is willing to drop his lust for another day if you’re not willing to do the deed at the moment, although he would definitely be slightly ticked off but he wouldn’t pressure you or anything so he opts to masturbate when you go to sleep. and once the time has come, he’d let you take the steering wheel for the boat ride ahead. you had to tell him the pace and strength he should be exerting into you, as he may start off painfully slow, since the last thing he wanted to do is hurt you. nevertheless, he’s there to make your first sex with you fun and enticing, but he always showcases his love and care for you just by the way his muscular arms is holding onto whilst his eyes look down at your sweaty yet gorgeous face.

Hyunjin: he may seem calm and collected, but there is this slight trepidation going on in his head. he obviously has to hide it as he doesn’t want to freak you out. at first, it may seem that he would focus more on foreplay than the sex itself just to give you time for your decision, and making sure its not something you would regret . he’d be very loving towards you, holding your hand when needed, caressing your sides to hold you in a protective way. all in all, he’s very protective, and he can be a soft lover in this moment. he would also be the type to giggle and tell you things like “we did it,” and kiss you <//333

Jisung: he always strikes me as the nervous kind, but he’s like that for a reason, especially for a moment like this. you might feel bad because his reaction wasn’t the most pleasant at first glance, but he explained his case and you started to understand where he’s coming from. while he is goofy in nature, he’s very cautious and scared he’d do anything that could eventually fuck you up, and thats the last thing he wants to put upon himself. he’d harm himself than harm you, so he had every right to feel nervous. after many reassurance from you, he’d almost immediately calm down and get into the action. i feel like he’s also pretty fast pace, but he’s also very aware of his surroundings so even if he’s too deep into it, he’d still check up on you.

Felix: my soft lover. just like how many would suggest, he’s very soft when it comes to this, but that doesn’t mean he’s very aware of all things. he gives off as the type who’s as inexperienced however he’s very laid back about it, since he sees it as a more learning experience. he’ll comfort you, and let you know that everything will be fine and that you both will learn from each other, whats good and whats not. he’ll hear you out, just like how you hear him out. he’d knead your soft skin to calm you down if he sensed any discomfort coming from you, he’ll just be so soft towards you :(

Seungmin: he kinda gives off as the type to let go of everything until you’re sure of this, like Changbin, but i think with seungmin he could probably be even more nonchalant about it than Changbin. he would also be pretty straightforward and highly advises you to be upfront with him if you’re sure or uncomfortable. he may come off as cold, but he’s just analyzing your reaction to any action he gives you, and he’s just trying to make you feel good. i also sense he would take it slow just like Chan, like maybe he would start off by fingering you and moving on with your pace.

Jeongin: now, everyone says that he’s inexperienced as well, and you could be right on that one. now am i saying this because he’s the baby of the group? maybe, but thats not really the case here. it’s moreso the fact the he never got to have any interaction with anyone because he felt that sex should be something that is done when you two are in love. i don’t think he’s necessarily waiting for marriage, but if he could, he would. so if you tell him you’re a virgin, it can go in any way. he would follow your path, and would do it if you did (only if he’s comfortable ofc), but he can hold off if you want to and it wouldn’t cause that big of an affect.

Hi!!! I thought of another movie related headcanon! I know Taka and Leon have seen movies that genuinely scared them, but how about movies that made them genuinely sad? Like so sad to the point they just hug each other and cry for a half an hour or so. Maybe even imagining said tragic event in said movie happening to the other and wanting to give each other an even bigger hug. Maybe cuddle up together in bed once they’re done crying together in each other’s arms.

Ahhh of course! I totally see Taka as an emotional film watcher. He doesn't get frightened or even laugh at films - but cry? Oh yeah totally.

So for this, I'll just stick with Taka being sad if that's cool? I just fancy writing Leon and his family's reaction to him crying. Ha!

Fun fact - will use a film that personally never fails to make me cry for this! So spoilers for the film mentioned below.

• Seeing how Taka never watched films as a child, Leon is eager to catch him up.

• And since his family are self-proclaimed 'filmies', what better way to do it?

• They watch all kinds of films together.

• Romcom, thriller, horror, Disney. A wide variety to give Taka the best experience.

• And in general, Taka sits in silence and doesn't give away his opinions for fear of offending the person who chose the film.

• Johnny English was the obvious exception...

• Now everyone knows Leon's a sucker for scary film and Leon's mum loves ronance.

• Leon's dad likes an eclectic mix and he chooses a film one day a sci fi/drama that he's not seen in a few years:

• AI: Artificial Intelligence.

• Leon groans at the choice - commenting its too long and preachy - but a choice is always honoured.

• And so as always, the boys cuddle up together on the sofa - Leon insisting that he lays on Taka's chest as compromise for getting through the film.

• Well.

• The film instantly strikes a chord with Taka - a little robot boy (his bullies favourite nickname for him) who wants nothing more than to gain his mommy's approval.

• And then watching the family turn on him...

• 'He's only trying to fit in. Why don't they care?'

• Odd. Taka doesn't usually comment on films...

• It only gets worse - the robot is abandoned in the woods and hunted by humans for a special event.

• One that horrifies Taka to the core - so much so he sits up in utter outrage to address the TV.

• 'What is WRONG with them?! They're KILLING them! FOR FUN!'

• Leon, disgruntled at being moved from his comfy position, throws a worried glance at his dad.

• If he's mad now, he's going to hate the end.

• They carry on through the film - watching the robot search for the blue fairy to get his answers and fly to Manhattan.

• Watching the boy find out he isn't special, that he's one of a branded line of machines, watching him lose his best friend to the authorities and dive under the water...

• And watching the boy pray to his blue fairy for centuries, begging her to let him see his mommy.

• All the while, Leon is carefully watching Taka from the corner of his eye - seeing him fully invested in the film for the first time ever.

• And then it begins.

• The ending where he has one day to see a clone of his mommy - one single day and when she goes to sleeo, she will never wake up.

• Oh, Taka's sat back now - huddled into Leon as he nibbles on his thumb, trying to contain the tears as the boy spends the best day of his life with his mommy.

• Leon's already got his arm around his boyfriend's shoulder, rubbing small circles on his upper arm while glancing at his dad (who's in a similar position with his wife).

• And in the lead up to the words, the one's he KNOWS will tip Taka's over, he turns his face from view to wince.

• 'I love you, David. I do love you. I have always loved you.'

• The floodgates are opened and Taka is SOBBING - babbling how it was the ONLY thing the boy wanted, ALL HIS LIFE he just wanted LOVE and now he's ALONE FOREVER.

• 'I-it's just n-not fa-a-air!'

• Leon sort of wants to laugh at how absolutely adorable it is that Taka's gotten so caught up in a film, but knows laughing will make it worse right now.

• So he pulls his wailing boyfriend onto his lap and hugs him gently, rubbing his back (not quite stifling the smile from his parents).

• 'Aww baby, it's okay!'

• 'W-why didn't h-he see how AWFUL she w-was?! She L-LEFT HIM!'

• 'I know, I know. It's okay.'

• Leon's parents sneak away to bed, leaving Leon to console Taka in peace.

• And you'd best believe Leon takes full advantage of snuggly Taka - getting to be the big spoon for a change, kissing his sniffly boyfriend's neck as he starts to calm down.

• And even getting a cheeky palm under his t-shirt to rest against his chest.

• 'You okay?'

• 'Mm.'

• 'Tired?'

• 'Mm.'

• 'Want me to let go?'

• A shake of the head before Leon's hand is pressed down harder as Taka pulls himself incredibly closer into his boyfriend's body.

• And with a smile, Leon presses a kiss to the tip of Taka's ear, whispering words of love as Taka drifts off to sleep.

Headcanons for Avey:-Dewey and Ava met at Scrooge McDuck’s Money Bin, as he had a business meetingwith a fellow company on renewing a deal. Ava’s father was filling in for hisboss, who always strangely unable to make meetings with other companies.-Ava didn’t like Dewey at the beginning. Actually, she never had the intentionto dislike him. It was very low and shallow due to the fact he was polaropposite from her and kept on pushing her out of her comfortzone, which shefelt uncomfortable with. -Ava and Dewey got along was when the two of them were trapped alone in a lifeor death situation, which Ava so useless and given up and confessed that she wasgoing to die with someone who she didn’t like. At this point Dewey was annoyedbut as he was just as useless as she was, the two actually talked out why Avadislike him and such. This actually began their friendship. -The two hold each other pinkies. It may sound strange, but it relates to whentheir friendship began. When they thought their lifes were to an end, Dewey grabbedher pinky finger, as it was the only thing he could help and ‘calm’ her down.After that, whenever Ava has an anxiety attack or feeling frighten, she tendsto grab a hold of Dewey’s pinky..or when she notice when Dewey isn’t himself,she takes a hold of his pinky. It a simple reminder that they are there for oneanother.-These two both teaches one another something. Dewey taught Ava how to livelife to the fullest, enjoy every second of it, have fun, and fighting for what’sright. While Ava taught Dewey the beauty of the world when you slow down for asecond, stop and smell the roses from time to time, and art. These are just a fewexamples. -They both pull one another out of their comfortzones. Mostly Dewey is doingthat to Ava though. -With Dewey’s reckless decision making, Ava actually pulls him back when hegets into extreme danger. Basically think of it as the voice in your head thattells you ‘hey, you’re gonna hurt yourself if you do it this way, rethink that plan.’That smart little voice that has the common sense. -Ava is the calm peaceful one between the two.-Some pet nicknames Dewey gave Ava are ‘Peeper’ (first it was an insultnickname once Dewey found out Ava’s middle name was Peep. As time passed, Avagot use to the nickname and Dewey is the only one allow to call Ava ‘Peeper’)and ‘Droplet’ one of his friends tease Dewey by saying ‘Looks like Dewdrop hasa Droplet’ and Dewey like that nickname that he began calling Ava ‘Droplet.’- Some pet nicknames she gave Dewey are ‘Dewdrop (reason was when they were youngerDewey wasn’t fond of the nickname Dewdrop and Ava used it to bug him but astime went on, he got use to it and prefer Ava to call him that.) she also latercalls him ‘Amour’ (love in French due to her French background and her speakingFrench).-A lot of their teen years Ava and Dewey did camp together a lot. Ava was theone who drove to the campsites due to not trusting Dewey behind the wheel ofthe car…yet she trust him when driving an airplane.-Ava formed a crush the more time she spent with him. She realize it when shealways goes for him when she has anxiety attacks as he calms her down. She wasreally accepting of her crush (since swans are commonly known to mate for life)and her crush feeling became love (once hitting 16-17), but she stood by theside lines. She wasn’t one to confess first..-Dewey never realize his fondness for Ava until MUCH later when Ava was goingto leave for Italy for college. Deweywas overly angry that his friend is leaving for so long and it was worse thathe was the last to know. Elena was the one to point out why he’s over reactingwas because he fancy Ava. Which opened up his eyes.

-Dewey didn’t confess and actually stay mad at Ava until shewas about to leave. He chased the girl down before getting on the airplane toadmit his feelings for the swan and apologizing for his childish behaviourabout him being upset and angry over the fact she was leaving to get better studies.It was a bittersweet moment since the two realize that Ava will be in Italy fora good 3-4 years. So they were force to do a long distance relationship until shereturn.- Before Ava left to Italy, Ava promised not to change for Dewey, however shebroke that promise as the next time Dewey saw her, her long Rapunzel hair shehad was chopped off and her hair went down to her shoulders. Dewey comment onit, which Ava got nervous and explain her reasoning why and that she’s stillthe same otherwise, which only made Dewey chuckle saying ‘I didn’t say it was abad thing~’-When Ava was in college, Dewey would actually stole the Sunchaser and fly toItaly just see Ava, which would be when Ava and him go on official dates. -Usual dates for these two are usually walks around with Ava taking photographs.Sometimes, Dewey would go in front of the camera to strike a pose telling Ava ‘getmy good side~’ which the girl would lightly laugh and take the photo. The two would walk anywhere enjoying theirtime together, and actually discover new places.

-Later in life when they’re adults, Ava ends up being a photographerfor a famous nature magazine which works out very well for Dewey with him constantlyflying everywhere. She tends to take photos for what the article she working onalong with adventure Dewey is on. Both living life to the fullest!

-The two originally didn’t want to have kids or get married.A promise ring that meant they would be together was good enough for them besideswith their jobs and traveling all the time where would a kid fit in?- Before getting married the two of them well- they had an oops child. When Avafound out she was pregnant, she instantly panicked, not for the fear of havinga child but how the heck will everything come together with their life, howwill schooling happen, friends, stable life, and job…so many things to thinkabout it. It was insane! When Ava told Dewey, he was shock at the fact that Avawas pregnant. He was happy but gave the response ‘I thought we didn’t want tohave kids.’ With an awkward laugh. Throughout the pregnancy and waiting for theegg to hatch the two of them were extremely nervous. Dewey was force to be thecalm one, the reason of voice. The two agreed to only having this one childsince nothing could go wrong. It was so exciting when the egg hatch but…their new baby was hatch premature,the duckling was a blue colour, trouble breathing, and nearly on the verge ofdeath along with her feet being in awkward position, webbed footing closed upcould mean death as well. This caused somuch fear and sadness, for so long their baby girl was in the hospital due toher condition. Ava and Dewey constantly visited the hospital or even stay there.-During the time their first born being the hospital, Ava had a huge depressionfeeling like a failure as a mother. Ava barely done anything, eat, sleep, drink..nothing.Though Dewey and Ava agreed on not having another child, Dewey knew Ava neededa child if their baby didn’t make it through. Dewey suggested maybe should tryhaving another child and well, Ava got pregnant again. Ava was a nervous wreakbut not as bad this time, trying to keep positive that everything will workout. Once the egg hatch they had a healthy baby boy, they were beyond beliefhappy. A perfect baby boy. Soon after, their daughter was healthy and was ableto go home. The couple stay within Duckberg until their ducklings were closerto the age of 3-4 to go back and travel again.

-Dewey and Ava didn’t got married until well after they hadtheir two kids. Once Hunter (second child) was hatched and Madeline (firstborn) was out of their hospital, Dewey decided to propose before getting thering.-Their wedding was big and huge but it was very tender surprisingly. Deweyactually surprised Ava by saying his vows/speech all in French. -Dewey learn French due to Ava speaking it often and slips into by accident..heacted clueless to surprise Ava one day that he was fully awareof what she or her family was saying.

i mean this from the bottom of my heart: SO glad you asked. honestly the animorphs, except (appropriately) for ax, are like, so easy to identify with astrological archetypes when i went through it i almost thought these were all too obvious? like, oh, pegging the leader as a capricorn, real thoughtful. but just as jake is a capricorn not just because he’s the leader but because he is a million-year-old disciplinarian who hates himself and will throw down at the drop of a hat, the more i thought about all of these the more convinced i became.

cassie is a pisces. the elemental rules of thumb lead us straight to water for someone as ruled by her emotions, and as full of real respect for the power of emotion, as cassie; cassie herself, of course, has a number of meaningful interactions with water and water animals herself, from suggesting their trout morph to making friends with a psychic whale to channeling the whale to drown the veleek to the spiritual regard she has for dolphins to bidding aftran farewell in water form. pisces is associated with dreams and sleep, which also are recurring cassie motifs, from her reception of ax’s distress call to her interpretation of her own nightmares about choosing someone’s death in MM1 to the dreams that hint at the unraveling of the alternate timeline in MM4. when i think of pisces i think of a certain porousness, the end of the zodiac meaning, kind of, the aspect of human existence nearest and most prone to drifting into the broader fabric of the cosmos, which is cassie all over; jake calls her mystical in the very first book, she’s sub-temporally grounded (whatever that means), she’s kind of the only one of the animorphs that gives a shit about what happens to the non-human parts of earth in the events that the yeerks when for real, she has a talent for beautiful morphing (pisces is also a mutable sign). empathetic to a fault, alternately wise beyond her years and blinded by the immediate overwhelm of her own emotion, trusting her gut more than anything else. pisces. keywords: intuitive, dreamy, artistic, humane, sympathetic, sensitive, compassionate, perceptive, tender, impressionable

tobias is a libra. libra is the only inanimate sign of the twelve, which feels appropriate for someone whose sense of self as an actual person is as weak as tobias’s. libra is the scales, which is to say justice but also a balancing act, and, like, is that not tobias’s entire life? hawk/boy, predator/prey, kill/save. he’s looking, always, for the true balance of the components of himself, and in true libra fashion is never fully satisfied. he’s also the most consistent swing vote on the team, specifically because he’s the only animorph who consistently sees both sides of a story, who can hold the micro and the macro in his mind simultaneously, who can really look simultaneously at benefits and costs—and he often expresses himself carefully, waiting to speak until he can articulate himself, not getting caught up in the back-and-forth of marco/rachel on one hand and cassie on the other. my favorite passage in the entire series is his interior monologue in 23 about how every single human lives on that edge between savage and saint—about how for everyone, doing the right thing is a balancing act, doing the right thing in fact requires a balancing act because there’s never going to be just one right answer that gets you through everything. he can be judgmental, but he is also willing to cut people slack—he tells rachel, gently, to back off a teammate more than once. IMO tobias is the character through which the true moral message of the books—which (again IMO) largely hinges on exactly that idea that there are no shortcuts, no easy answers, that you are constantly figuring out what is needed today and you don’t always get to be sure it was right—gets most clearly expressed, which i mention mostly because, and i did not know this when i first pinned tobias as a libra, K. A. applegate is a libra too. keywords: just, sociable, refined, accommodating, kind, fair, diplomatic, likable, indecisive, respectful, artistic

rachel as an aries, again, like, it feels almost too obvious? is it jake that literally calls her the goddess of war? but, well: rachel’s comfort zone is the fight. she’s a creature of action, someone who likes doing better than she likes thinking, and who is not great at sitting still. she is quick to anger, she does have the temper of someone ruled by mars, and she will fuck your shit up if she decides you deserve it. she’s got that aries impulsivity, too—how many times does she do something only to think immediately afterward, or even as she’s initiating the movement, “so, this is stupid of me”? she’s not one for planning ahead, and although she’s aware of the biggest picture she doesn’t intuitively take into account the consequences of whatever they’re considering. she’s restless, driven by an internal battery. but she’s thrilling to be around, she lights people up, she radiates strength that others can use. jake calls the shots, but rachel is the one metaphorically waving the flag. keywords: active, initiating, leading, independent, aggressive, impatient, combative, energetic, pioneering, naive, assertive. plus, rachel as aries gives some fun things with both pisces-cassie and libra-tobias. rachel and cassie very much are poles on the animorphs spectrum, which is captured by placing rachel as aries (the baby of the zodiac, holding only itself) and cassie as pisces (the eldest sign, containing all of them); the two of them are simultaneously nestled next to each other and a universe apart. meanwhile aries and libra are sister signs, which: Aries is drawn into the Libran mystery and benefits from diplomacy when they become confrontational. In comparison, Aries can teach Libra the skill of quick decision making; which although impulsive provides the spontaneity they need. Libra can be indecisive to a fault, they can benefit from any help in this department! sound like anyone we know? i also (1) as a capricorn who has only dated arieses and libras like the idea of them as a cardinal sign power couple and (2) love and find very fitting with them and the series as a whole the idea that rachel is ruled by the god of war while tobias is ruled by the goddess of love.

marco is a gemini. motormouth whose speed of talk is outpaced only by the speed of his brain. big on intellect, low on internal emotionality. a joker, vibrating a little higher, a little faster than everyone around him. difficult for other people to get a handle on, comes across as more glib, more callous than he is (i, a gemini rising.... Can Relate). a people person, interested in others—he is the only animorph we see trying to strike up new connections well into the war, and like yeah it’s mostly because he’s the thirstiest animorph by virtue of being the only human without a counterpart on the team onto whom he can focus and have reciprocated all that desperate energy but still—but also good with others, charming and likable and the best liar on the team by far, the quickest on his feet. containing a central duality, not the way tobias does, where there’s a constant tension and ongoing recalibration between hawk and human, but completely, even comfortably: the lightest animorph and the darkest, the most chipper and the most terrified, the most normal and the most ruthless, and, crucially, given to switching from one to the other on a dime. thinking in multiple dimensions. keywords: talkative, mental, adaptable, flexible, changeable, responsive, sociable, superficial, versatile, inquisitive, witty. (also, interesting to think of marco & cassie as the two mutable signs to whose openness, changeability, etc. cardinal jake is drawn to.)

ax... you know, it really is fitting that he’s the most difficult one. does astrology even apply if you weren’t born on this planet? is his astrological birthday the day of his first human morph? do andalites have their own zodiac, their own archetypes, their own beliefs about how the constellations shape their lives? (i bet they do. military andalites are probably too rational for it, but i bet everyday andaites do have their own set of astrological concepts). at first i thought aquarius, because of the easy Out There/weirdo/alien connection, and his technological prowess connoting a certain intellect, but the thing is, although ax is well ahead of humans scientifically because of the advanced position of andalites as a whole, we don’t know that he’s particularly impressive by andalite standards, and in fact the series strongly suggests he is... not. (falling asleep in xenobiology, anyone?) now i think—and again, i’m less convinced of this than of the others, but the more time i spend with it the more right it feels—i like him as a taurus. the food thing is obvious, yes, tauruses like to eat, like sensual pleasures, and we know that ax finds human senses just absolutely mindblowing all the time and has NO shame about sharing this fact. but ax is also determined (to kick visser three’s ass, as a mere aristh!), and yes, can be stubborn (”yes, prince jake” / “twenty-five of your minutes”). think of how he builds a scoop for himself, fills it up with concrete physical things to make it a home—that’s very taurean, to me. (the tauruses i know fucking love nesting.) i also like the idea of ax as a taurus to jake’s capricorn, because (as a capricorn) i always think of taurus as like, capricorn’s less deranged little sibling, and i think there’s something to be said for the fact that ax and jake are similar people—unimpressive students who deeply want to Do Right—who have a similar outlook on the war (which is to say that they’re the two who think of it most fully as a war instead of a series of battles, ax because he brings in the bigger picture of the yeerks and jake because he has to take a broader perspective in order to make the calls and lead the team), but ax is 6000% less tormented and fucked up about it than jake is. keywords: persevering, down-to-earth, stable, stubborn, possessive, prosperous, dependable, physical, sensual. in my reckoning, the only fixed sign of the bunch, which feels true. yeah, i’ll take it.

Do you think Phil and Rita would ever have kids? If so, how do you think they'd come about? Would it be planned or the result of a failure in birth control? How would they react to parenthood? I need your tiny baby Hanson-Connors ideas!

OUT OF STICKY BUNS :: Before I get into actually answering this question, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sending it in! It was so much fun to finally have the opportunity to talk about this properly, and I can only apologise for how long you’ve had to wait for an answer - I wanted to wait until I had a chance to run my response my @philconnors, as my headcanons on this matter are ones we’ve created together! I’ve stuck this in the tags so that hopefully whoever sent this to me sees it!

I do think they’d have children. Rita canonically loves kids, and I believe she’s always liked the idea of having her own (something detailed a little more here!); I think that post-loop, and with Rita, Phil would also be open to the idea of having a family.

I’m putting the rest of this under here, because it got pretty long!

While we have variations of near enough every verse in which Phil and Rita have kids, when it comes to the circumstances surrounding that I’m just gonna talk about their canon verse here! With that being said though, feel free to send me another message if you want to hear about any AUs!

Rebecca can talk about this a little more herself if she ever feels the need, but I just want to talk about Phil and kids for a second. With regard to her Phil’s backstory, he’s one of four kids - the second oldest, and only boy - and all three of his sisters have kids by the time we ‘meet’ Phil canonically. He’s always been closest with the middle sister Mary, and while he’s not a great person pre-canon (an understatement, I know!) the people he’s best around are Mary and her then ten year old daughter, Grace. While kids weren’t a priority for Phil before, they were part of what he pictured as an ideal - your typical successful career, beautiful wife, good kids story. During his time in the loop, when he’s left reflecting on his life and himself, he’s forced to acknowledge that his behaviour would have prevented that from ever happening - and it’s not a comfortable realisation.

So post-canon, when he has Rita - when they’re settled and in love, and starting a family of their own? That’s something he could barely allow himself to acknowledge wanting even on a superficial level before he went through the loop, something he never thought he’d deserve. And to an extent, he’s terrified of fucking it up because of that.

As far as Rita is concerned (and again, this is covered in much more detail in this post!), when she was younger she thought she’d probably have started a family by the time we meet her canonically, and by that time she’s actually open to the idea that she might never have them, even though it’s something she would want. Her life didn’t go that way, obviously, and she’s far from unhappy with how her life has turned out; she’s successful professionally, she has a close-knit support network of friends and family, and she’s well off financially - and, of course, she ends up in a loving relationship with Phil. But even though she’s mentally more prepared for the idea of having kids than he is, she worries about getting it wrong too.

They have two children, and they’re both planned… Ish. The first is a daughter, Isobel, and she’s actually conceived the night Phil proposes (which he does on the second post-loop Groundhog Day, up on the observation deck where Rita first kissed him). Obviously they weren’t expecting that, but by that point they’ve already discussed what they want and where they see their lives together going, and neither of them are exactly unhappy when that positive test comes back - surprised, yes, because they were using birth control at the time, but they both come around to the idea pretty quickly. Their second child is a son, Joshua, who is born just over two years later - and they’re actually trying to have another child when he’s conceived.

Phil and Rita are a really, really good parental unit. They balance each other out incredibly well in a lot of aspects of their life together, and parenting is no different. They very much adhere to the idea that parental responsibility should be split as equally as possible, but they also recognise that it isn’t always going to be a 50 / 50 split. If one of the two of them has more to do at work then the other will take on a little more at home, for example, but they always try and even things out again as quickly as possible - but there’s never the attitude of ‘well I did this, so now you have to do this to make it fair’, because parenting together isn’t about constantly keeping score. A good example of this is after Josh is born; while Rita’s first pregnancy is incredibly easy, her second isn’t at all, and as a result Phil has a lot more on his plate both before and after she has Josh - but obviously he’s not there complaining, and going ‘well when you’re better, you can take over the bulk of the parenting for a couple of months’!

Even though they both worry about it, they take to parenting really well - largely because they have each other to lean on (they’re an incredibly supportive couple - I could probably write another post of a similar length about that!). Of course they get things wrong, especially when they first have Isobel and when they’re first adjusting to having a newborn and a toddler to take care of, but their household is nothing if not a supportive one. They don’t hold mistakes against each other, and to be honest, they laugh about a lot of the stuff that does go wrong. So as far as reactions to parenthood go... They don’t really experience anything you wouldn’t expect from new parents. They’re scared and elated and stressed, and utterly in love with each other and their children and their lives with one another. It’s the life the two of them deserve, happy and fulfilling.

I could go into so much more detail but this is already well over 1,000 words, so I’m just going to finish with talking about the two kids a little more because I love them a lot.

Isobel Olivia Connors (Bel) :: Born November 3rd 2018. She looks decidedly more like Rita, although her curls are tighter and lighter than her mother’s are naturally, but she has dark green eyes and there’s a lot of Phil in her smile. She’s also small for her age (Bel is always small - when she’s pregnant with her Rita doesn’t start properly showing until around five or six months), and when she’s fully grown she’s the smallest one in their family. Personality wise, she’s a decent mix of both parents - she’s very confident and very stubborn, and as she grows up she becomes incredibly empathetic and demonstrates quite a sarcastic sense of humour (which she gets from both of them, let’s be honest!). She can speak before she thinks, which sometimes gets her in trouble, but she’s kind and funny and very smart. She shares Rita’s talent for linguistics and is an avid reader, but she’s fascinated by science from a very young age - something that Phil is very eager to nurture, which has some pretty adorable results when she’s little.

Joshua Isaac Connors (Josh) :: Born March 17th 2021. Out of the two kids, Josh is the quiet one - although he’s sardonic on a level that reminds everyone of Phil when he’s older. He bears a decent resemblance to his sister - their eyes are very similar, which is the most striking resemblance between the two of them - but he favours his father a little more where she favours their mother. His curls are a little looser and his hair is darker (closer to both Rita and Phil’s natural colour), and when he grows up he’s very tall - a good six or so inches taller than Bel is, when they’ve both stopped growing. He’s less prone to letting his mouth get him in trouble than his sister is, and more likely to think things through before making decisions. But he’s a good mix of both parents, too; although he’s quiet he isn’t shy with it, and he’s kind and thoughtful and witty and fiercely intelligent. While he shares his sister’s fascination with science, his own passions lean more towards literature.

Between the Irish heritage on Phil’s side of the family and the fact that Rita herself is covered in freckles (especially in the summer), both kids have them. They both also need glasses - Bel needs them all the time from when she’s quite young, and Josh needs them for reading from when he’s about 11.
