ok so the thing is great for all the obvious reasons and i love the ending, just watching the tension between childs and macready subside in the face of their only chance at life burning down. both of them putting aside the underlying distrust of their continued humanity because we're not in much shape to do anything about it, anyhow. you're the last living being i'll see before i die. so c'mon, have a drink. childs still relying upon/mocking the leadership of macready, what do we do now? how do we make it? childs, whatever he is, still wants to live, but macready's long accepted his death. why dont we just wait here for a little while and see what happens? wait by the warmth of the fire, passing the alcohol. die with your lips on the same bottle of the man you called a murderer. the exhaustion that must have set in by then, the relief of a moment of rest, and then that consistent fear in the back of your mind that you're spending your last moments with the very creature you've ended your life to kill. and what are you going to do, waiting for the end? the very least, after all of this, is die in the arms of your fellow... man.
