Anthony Salvatore Casso nicknamed "Gaspipe", was an American mobster and underboss of the Lucchese crime family. During his career in organized crime, he was regarded as a "homicidal maniac" in the Italian-American Mafia. Casso is suspected of having committed dozens of murders, and had confessed to involvement in between 15 and 36 murders. Government witness Anthony Accetturo, the former caporegime of The Jersey Crew, once said of Casso, "all he wanted to do is kill, kill, get what you can, even if you didn't earn it". In interviews, and on the witness stand, Casso confessed involvement in the murders of Frank DeCicco, Roy DeMeo, and Vladimir Reznikov. Casso also admitted to several attempts to murder Gambino family boss John Gotti. Following his arrest in 1993, Casso became one of the highest-ranking members of the Mafia to turn informant. After taking a plea agreement, he was placed in the witness protection program, however, in 1998, it was rescinded and Casso was dropped from the program after several infractions. Later that year, a federal judge sentenced him to 455 years in prison for racketeering, extortion, and murder. Casso died in prison custody from complications related to COVID-19 on December 15, 2020. #gaspipe #gaspipecasso #anthonycasso #luchesefamily #luchesecrimefamily #mafia #organizedcrime #underboss #johngotti #sammythebull #roydemeo #newyork #gangster #covid_19 #witnessprotection #informant #serialkiller #massmurder #straightenedout #frankdeccico #mobcops #cosanostra #italian #bestafoods #bestawines (at Peoria, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp8sjzQPBiG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this date in 2019: Former Lucchese acting Boss turned stool pigeon, Alphonse “little Al” D’arco” died from liver failure, he was 86. Alphonse "Little Al" D'Arco was an American mobster who became the acting boss of the Lucchese crime family in New York City. He was the first boss, acting or otherwise, of a New York crime family to become a government witness. On September 18, 1991 D'Arco traveled to the FBI office in New Rochelle, New York and offered to become a government witness. Despite being under FBI protection, D'Arco still feared that a corrupt FBI agent had betray him to Casso. When federal prosecutors finally met with D'Arco, they found him hiding in the bathroom of his hotel room. At the time, he was the highest-ranking member of a New York crime family to break his blood oath and testify against the mob, a standing he would maintain until Bonanno boss Joseph "The Ear" Massino turned informer in 2004. He was also one of many Mafia rats who released a book after cooperating. #littleal #alphonsedarco #aldarco #lucchese #lucchesefamily #lucchesecrimefamily #gaspipe #gaspipecasso #vicamuso #stoolpigeon #rat #informant #cooperatingwitness #mafia #cosanostra #lacosanostra #5families #actingboss #underboss #jerrycapeci #fbi #mobboss #mafiaboss #straightenedout #history #brooklyn #newyork #nypd (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbrT3CdLQSf/?utm_medium=tumblr

Louis Eppolito (July 22, 1948 – November 3, 2019) was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and raised in East Flatbush. He was the son of Theresa Eppolito, a registered nurse, and Ralph Eppolito, an associate of the Gambino crime family. Eppolito's paternal uncle and cousin, James Eppolito and James Eppolito Jr., were also both made members of the Gambino crime family, belonging to capo Nino Gaggi's crew. Growing up, Eppolito became acquainted with several other mobsters. His uncle and cousin were eventually murdered by both Gaggi and Gambino family soldier Roy DeMeo, with the permission of Gambino boss Paul Castellano. By 1985, federal authorities recognized Steven Caracappa and Eppolito as associates of the Mafia in New York City. Caracappa was at this point a member of the Organized Crime Homicide Unit within the NYPD Major Case Squad based in Brooklyn. Both were known for using inappropriate methods to get results in their police work. According to Lucchese family underboss Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso, when trying to enroll in Witness Protection in 1994, he and his boss Vittorio "Vic" Amuso had paid Eppolito and Caracappa $375,000 in bribes – and payments for murder contracts – beginning in 1985. After a long investigation, highlighted by Burton Kaplan's decision to testify against his former confederates, both Caracappa and Eppolito were arrested in March 2005 and charged with counts of racketeering, obstruction of justice, extortion, and eight counts of murder and conspiracy. These included the murders of James Hydell, Nicholas Guido, John "Otto" Heidel, John Doe, Anthony DiLapi, Bruno Facciolo, Edward Lino, and Bartholomew Boriello. On March 6, 2009, Eppolito was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 100 years. He died on November 3, 2019, in federal custody at a Tucson hospital. #louiseppolito #stephencaracappa #mafiacops #gaspipe #gaspipecasso #anthonycasso #lucchese #lucchesefamily #organizedcrime #vicamuso #nypd #newyork #mafia #mafiahistory #mafianews #straightenedout #hitman #hitmen #murderforhire #racketeering #eddielino #jinmyhydell #dilapi (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZWFhWMrqFu/?utm_medium=tumblr

36 years ago, on this date in Mafia history; (December 16th 1985) Paul “big Paul” Castellano and boss of the Gambino family was murdered in downtown Manhattan. Castellano and his driver and underboss Thomas Billotti were ambushed and murdered in front of Sparks Steakhouse. The hit was planned by John Gotti, Sammy Gravano and Frankie Deccico in a successful attempt to take the family over. John Gotti was anointed the crown and became boss of the Gambino Family. John Gotti was accepted by the commission as Boss, but he didn’t get permission for the hit and retribution was in order. Chin Gigante and Lucchese boss Vic Amuso hatched a plan with Lucchese underboss Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso to kill Gotti… only the attempt went wrong and Frankie Deccico was killed instead. Few years later they also took out Bobby Boriello. Some say this event right here led to the demise of the mafia as we knew it. The hit was too public, it was a media sensation… then Gotti? Maron don’t get me started on him 🤦‍♂️ #johngotti #paulcastellano #sammygravano #tommybilotti #frankdecicco #gaspipe #gaspipecasso #vicamuso #chingigante #sparkssteakhouse #bigpaul #gambinocrimefamily #gambinofamily #carlogambino #mafiahistory #onthisdate #onthisday #truecrime #history #manhattan #mafiacommission #thecommission #rubbedout #ny #newyork #cosanostra #boss #gotti #sammythebull #vitorioamuso (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXiIGIJrGI3/?utm_medium=tumblr

How much power does an 85 year old, imprisoned for life Mafia boss have? Absolute power! In a letter written from prison 85 year old Lucchese Boss Vic Amuso ordered the complete rearrangement of his family’s administration, and if they didn’t listen? Hit teams were already dispatched to wipe them and their families out. Despite his erratic years as a Mafia boss and a life sentence, his crime family remained firmly under his thumb. This much became clear when Lucchese family mobster-turned-government witness John Pennisi testified that Amuso sent a coded letter from prison ordering the current acting boss Matthew Madonna to step down and be replaced by Michael “Big Mike” DeSantis. Amuso’s letter didn’t come out of nowhere. Several captains were unhappy with the family leadership being centered in the Bronx. Pennisi: “There was a crew of guys very loyal to him out here, all Brooklyn guys, [who] wanted to take the family back to Brooklyn. That’s really what this was about.” #lucchesefamily #lucchese #lucchesecrimefamily #vicamuso #vicandgas #mattymadonna #bigmikedesantis #bigmike #anthonycasso #gaspipecasso #fivefamilies #5families #mafia #mafiahistory #straightenedout #truecrime #gangsters #mafiaboss #cosanostra #lacosanostra #mafiaties #truecrimejunkie (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS2eDyPPfnB/?utm_medium=tumblr
