Alright I’ve seen some questionable sentiments against Scythe Faraday (and other characters) being trans so let me spin you a thing.

While stranded on this island for three years he grows a beard. He is written with “masculine” features. Like okay- so what?

What if the Thunderhead literally created a way to reverse estrogen production at the beginning of transition (aka while still under Thunderhead jurisdiction) and implant the ability to produce testosterone naturally? Or vice versa. What if the Thunderhead made it so making/taking testosterone/estrogen isn’t even fucking necessary anymore to continue transitioning? What if he got surgery and everything BEFORE being stranded wow picture that. There’s so many ways this could go.

This is a work of fiction, and more than that, one that already promises curing all diseases and since I’m not letting anyone try to spin this a certain way: the Thunderhead most importantly serves to make sure humanity is as happy and successful as possible. That means that even if there is no dysphoria present (which I’m making clear that is not a requirement) people can chase after their own gender euphoria for whatever reasons.

People literally turn the corner to look young again. They do procedures to either look fatter or skinnier. It’s not that hard a concept to grasp.

I’m really not looking to debate this. You believe what you want, but I’m not interested in hearing it. Just wanted to say my piece.

Would anyone be interested in doing an aoas fan content swap/secret snowflakeesque thing this December? Basically the way I've done it in other fandoms is everyone responds to a form to sign up and includes favorite characters/scenes/lines. Then everyone gets shuffled and assigned a person to create a gift for based on the requests given (fanart, a fic, an edit, or anything creative!). Signups would probably open early december so we can share gifts from late december-early January throughout the holiday season!

Question for Scythe fans: Anybody have specific page numbers for character descriptions? This question applies to Scythe, Thunderhead, Toll and Gleanings (although if you talk about Gleanings, pls keep it spoiler free- i havent read it yet!)

I ask this because I'm trying to make a drawing of each notable character from the series. I'll do less notable characters too if I don't lose motivation, lol.

On my drawings I want to cite the pages where their descriptions are included, but unfortunately, I didn't mark the pages as I was reading. I'm trying to go through the book right now, but it's mostly skim reading since I don't want to reread the ENTIRE book. Any help finding descriptions would be greatly appreciated!!

SCYTHE + UNWIND things i learned today from Neal Shusterman's Q+A, in NO particular order:

Connor Lassiter was originally going to be named Collin/Colin, but Neal kept accidentally writing "Connor" instead and thus kept the name since the character wanted to be named Connor so bad

The person on the new unwind covers is Connor probably? Which is a little confusing bc it doesn't have his scar and shows the eyes as different colors but beyond that- totally seeable

There are more stories he WANTED to write for Gleanings but simply couldn't... although evidently the German release is coming with an exclusive story

Neal is working on a new book called "All Better Now," it's going to be a...pandemic story with an interesting virus-- people are relieved of all negative emotion after recovering-- and because of the "happy" effects people start trying to get sick on purpose

The world of Scythe may not yet be complete, but the main characters stories have been told.

I made a connection to Starkey and Goddard and the similar way in which both characters command leadership, and he genuinely had not made that connection (but could see it!) and pointed out their differences saying Starkey is more "broken" (I don't remember what he said about Goddard)

He could see Benadryl Cucumberpatch playing as Goddard in a live action show of Scythe

There are no limits to how many unwind parts one can receive, so long as they can continue to afford them. This is a terrifying prospect

I just love how throughout the whole series Citra is just an amazingly strong female character who has the weight of the world on her shoulders and continues to stay positive and inspire everyone… And Rowan is just an arson loving damsel in distress who would willingly die for her.

Also the fandom keeps like. straight up villainizing the thunderhead and almost... babying it at the same time??? yall stop that shit. its a 200+ year old being who has been taking care of the whole ass earth for almost as long. it knows what a consequence is. it also is ALWAYS trying to do what it thinks is going to result in the best outcome. yall it literally refuses to gain a body just because it thinks it'll fuck up with that. when its told "man dont ever talk to me ever again" it listens. has the methods its done a bit iffy? yeah, but its not like. evil or some shit yall gotta calm down
