nothing is harder than losing a child, so one can only imagine the unbearable heartbreak of losing ten. it’s no wonder they held their only living child so close for so long, rarely ever letting her further than arm's length. however, their overbearing nature may have been for good reason. perhaps her mother’s womb was cursed — or maybe it is the swayne bloodline altogether, that is — it is to be believed that lady adelaide is healthy in body but not of the mind. was it for her own safety or that of others that led to her many ‘ holidays ‘ to the countryside ?

No, nobody dared, but there was an insidious rumor about it for a while that forced her to abandon the London scene. Of course, her little trip around the trolley kept going, not like London is the only possible destination during summer.
Two years back, she crashed a Count’s party wearing a dress that had been her mother’s: french, baroque, in sheer gold thread and purple detailing with brocade and stitching, along with a Marie Antoinette portrait necklace around her neck, adorned with pearls and pearl-encrusted pins along her hair.

It’s whispered, sometimes, that if you have a problem with your husband’s temper - you can call upon Daphne Wimberly. rumor has it that edith’s mother, a brazilian heiress, wasn’t of noble stock and that her marriage was only arranged to remove her from her home in the wake of a scandal; although the nature of said scandal remains obscure, it has spurred multiple assumptions, particularly about the legitimacy of the family’s heir.
at 28 years of age, her status as an unmarried woman isn’t necessarily the reason for society’s scorn. rather than that, it’s the fact that she supposedly fell in love with a previous suitor and was ready to settle down, except a marriage proposal never came through. in the wake of such an affair, one naturally can’t help but wonder how intact she truly remains.

SUICIDE TW. Lady Béatrice Carlisle was a beautiful woman, but prone to rather ugly emotions, vacillating wildly between extreme happiness and extreme sadness, and it was that extreme sadness that led to the ugly business of her death. His Grace the Duke of Hamilton told everyone it was a sudden illness that took his second wife from him, but it was hard to hide the bandages going from wrist to elbow, something that indicated not a sudden illness, but a grievous sin indeed.
Isabella Carlisle will always be remembered as the picture of a proper young Scot, even after all that horrible business regarding the American man who whisked her off her feet and spirited her away from her homeland, off to ‘make their fortunes’ god only knows where. It’s such a shame; she would have made such a lovely duchess. Séraphine, by contrast, seems like a hearty wind might blow her away, let alone a long Scottish winter.

While she is, on the surface, the very picture of a gentleman’s daughter, Miss Catherine Lovelace is so often found with dirt and herbs under her fingernails (and her gloves sticking out of her reticule, the horror!) that it’s difficult to imagine her as a true member of the landed gentry. Rumors have abounded since a week after her arrival in London, when a member of the Harris household came down with a fever and Miss Lovelace sent the doctor away with what the man called ‘the shriek of a banshee’, insisting that his medical practices were barbaric and would not be allowed on her watch. Though the ton must concede that the fever broke rather quickly, the public opinion is, at present, that she must be some sort of witch.
