#gojou's fans know no cringe

So things like shrinking his domain and inverting the barrier to combat Sukuna's open domain, tricking Sukuna to catch him off guard with red, countering burnout by destroying and rehealing his own brain, instantly figuring out how Sukuna was doing things like using max elephant for "piercing blood" - none of that shows smarts either? You hate the idea of Gojo winning, I get it, but you could be more self aware of your bias lol.
I didn't say Gojou showed no smarts, you're pushing the goal post. You came at me with tactics, now you come at me with smarts. This way you can "win" any argument by making people too exasperated to talk to you.
Gojou came to this fight unprepared. And yes after shit hits him he figures out how it works. Because he can reflect on things post factum, because nothing affects him.
Sukuna catches Gojou off guard an equal amount of times as Gojou catches Sukuna. The thing is that most of the fight it was Sukuna pulling something Gojou countering. It may be smart but it's not smart tactics because there's really little planning involved. Especially not when you have infinite resources and are invulnerable. It's pretty clear he came into it expecting to win almost instantly and and he's like oh dear, I need to actually do something more for once than expand my domain and wait for my opponent to die. So he starts to plan staff later in the fight because of how well Sukuna is prepared.
Both Sukuna and Gojou make mistakes and pull risky stunts. The difference is that rules apply to Sukuna and he bears the consequences of his arrogance. Gojou does not. They both are arrogant enough to get brain damage, Gojou by his own risky actions. For Sukuna it affects him. Gojou brushes it off.
Sukuna constantly balances output of the technique with how many things he's using at the same time, he needs to hide and cover himself, etc etc. It's clear the fight drains him. It's clear he prepared very consciously to this fight. He planned what techniques to use how and in what order.
Gojou just manages to instantly figure everything out, pull off everything he tries, and get everything back to regular output regardless of how long they are fighting, how much damage he takes, etc etc. He doesn't have to hide, avoid and so on because nothing affects him in any serious and lasting way.
If the rules don't apply to you it's not hard to counter things. It's not much of an achievement to figure things out on an infinite timeline. Gojou was created by Tengen to have two CT at the same time, two that support each other. And according to this fight, no matter what happens, Gojou can restore everything he expends and nothing permanent happens to him.
As I said, instead of taking mental damage from the prison realm, he learns valuable information about barriers from it... And this the cherry on top. Because it's not even about purely sorcerer and cursed energy stuff, he's mentally invulnerable...
Oh, and anything he does to Sukuna is yet to be revealed to actually have any side effects on Megumi. So far only Sukuna's actions seemed to have done damage to Megumi, Gojou's magically haven't. At least nothing indicates that. Three layers of plot armour.
Did you really not understand the Monopoly metaphor or can't you see past your bias.
Also I know my bias, Gojou fans like you, made me dislike him as a character in this story. Not because I think he's a bad character to have in a story per se. Because you people can't see past your masturbation object, be it because of his looks or his power, whatever gets you off. You don't see what detriment Gojou is to the Jujutsu society, to the people around him, to the story. You don't care that other characters have been sitting on their asses for chapters on end watching TV, not participating in Gojou's dick measuring contest. You don't see how disappointing it is to see Kenjaku plan something for 1000 years, try plans out, fail and learn from that. And it all matter nothing because Gojou is one walking deus ex machina. You don't seem to understand the disappointment that the over reliance on Gojou which lead to collapse of society, just gets undercut with a "just kidding" Gojou will fix it all... You don't care that this battle has no emotional stakes beyond two assholes' dick measuring contest. You need to understand that there are fans who care about the themes, the plot and most of all other characters than Gojou.
I don't hate Gojou's winning because I hate him as a person. I hate this fight, I hate that he's out of the box, I hate him winning because of how it affects the story and other characters.
I enjoy Sukuna because he's fun but he's a supremacist asshole who needs to die. It just that him getting killed by Gojou would mean fucking nothing. Him losing to a man who is unaffected by anything and whose actions have no detrimental effect on Sukuna's hostage is laughably pointless.
Gojou and Sukuna are a symptom of the same disease. Gojou is actually worse because the juju society is convinced that someone like him existing is good actually. That he's the guarantor of the status quo. And they are not wrong. The elders were killed, probably on Gojou's orders. For Gojou to instantly reinstate the status quo with Gakukanji as a lead. The typical liberal change to uphold the status quo.
I suspect Sukuna is going to pull something now. Maybe finally show his cursed technique. But this fight likely won't be less disappointing. Honestly if after all this, the show of Gojou's plot armours, Sukuna somehow wins or kills him, it will likely feel like such a fucking ass pull. Maybe Gege will manage to sell it but it's hard to be hopeful.
It seems that for you it's about power scaling. And the joy of your cock winning the who's the more arrogant dipshit fight. Am I right? If it is like that indeed, good for you. Your perfect asshole won.
But for me this fight would be a loss either way because of the characters sitting on their fucking asses watching TV and their wasted potential. It's a loss because Gojou who severely needed character depth will not get any... he's the lonely strongest who is a shit teacher and an irresponsible and arrogant man whose mistakes lead in part to the current predicament, but it's ok because him being the strongest solves everything. It's a loss because Sukuna doesn't deserve a dick measuring contest, he deserves for weaker people than him to band together, plan it out and kill him. Some of the strong kids and Kashimo to weaken him and Angel to fucking kill him as is her right. It's a loss because Yuuji needs to confront Kenjaku, he needs to save Megumi and so far nothing in either of those directions has happened.

so someone compared gojou to leorio, and came to the conclusion that gojou is better...
hxh is my comfort fandom, these are my comfort tags, especially in these trying times in the jjk tags. please don't bring that shit here, especially not the gojou shit. is it not enough that you people try to make the whole juju fandom about that man? must you go into other fandoms and do the same?
Tumblr media
ok so tldr: leorio slays. gojou is an irresponsible man with a god complex who failed and traumatised the people close to him, especially the people in his care several times.
leorio didn't adopt anyone, but leorio cares about his friends and he has devoted his time and attention and care to them. he worked with them throughout the exam. he went to save killua from his fam even though killua was a little shit to him. he reunited with his friends in york new. he tried to do stuff when gon was dying. all this while being in med school, and being neglected by togashi.
gojou took megumi in as a power play between himself, the elders and the zen'in. then couldn't bring himself to teach megumi anything. worked hard for megumi to honestly dislike him and honestly have responses to him that signal childhood trauma. and then did nothing to save megumi from sukuna. he actually trash talks megumi during that fight. i will not go into it more because i already have.
their friends drowning i emptiness is true but. leorio has always actively shown interest in kurapika and supported them as much as he could, despite pikachu trying their hardest to ghost their friends. gojou let getou to rot in his fascist thoughts. and then was sad about what happened next...
gojou was born into wealth and privilege and had been worshiped since birth, he'd been created for greatness. he'd always been arrogant. his irresponsibility is the partial cause of most of the tragedy in jjk. his goal was to make his world better but only a smidge, with no true change. because true change of the jjk world would've made him lose his god-like status and rendered the title of the strongest meaningless. he has accomplished nothing and abandoned those ideals as evidenced by him appointing gakuganji as a leader of the jujutsu society and didn't try to save megumi or how he readily dumped the responsibility on his students when he got sealed in shibuya.
leorio came from poverty and lost his best friend to poverty. he's disillusioned by the world. he truly cares about the injustices and the weak. his goal is true change. whether he can accomplish that is unlikely. but he's staying true to it. he's strong but not the strongest. but he makes as much as he can out of what he has and has developed a technique that could save countless lives. his technique literally reaches outwards when gojou's concentrates on himself.

I know people are very disappointed with Yorozu and her motivations. I’ve seen people calling her immature. And like ugh her reason to reincarnate is to chase a man and so on.
The former I disagree with on the grounds of it reeking of reactionary feminism and maybe ableism. It feels like a glorification of the girl boss - like people criticised a part of Nobara’s speech to Momo as shallow but now they are leaning into that mindset. It’s not inherently immature for a woman to pursue partnership.
And Yorozu is amoral and homicidal and delusional in way and very enthusiastic about all that. (Though is she really delusional when Sukuna agrees to her conditions? She’s clearly prepared for a battle with him though she didn’t expect him to pull out a different technique than his domain expansion - that is more of a miscalculation than a delusion to me.)
Is she mentally unstable? Maybe but also maybe not, either way she’s not immature. Mental illness doesn’t make her immature, that kind of thinking is a known bigoted trope. Enthusiasm doesn’t make her immature - there’s so much effort put into policing enthusiasm in adults, like there are only 2 people irl who are creators and avid fans like myself with whom I can talk about my interest with enthusiasm. Everyone else would call me immature. Nobara even voiced this stereotype that overly enthusiastic grownups are cringe.
No one calls Sukuna or Kenjaku immature. Both of them are amoral, homicidal and delusional in their own ways. Sukuna is the manosphere personified so he he tries to police his own enthusiasm especially recently but in his three first fights in the series it was very much out. Kenjaku is very enthusiastic, just their enthusiasm is less high energy than Yurozu’s more intellectually slanted, more palatable for grownups. The person who is called immature is Gojou, again because his enthusiasm is high energy. (I’m not going to go into the discussion of whether Gojou is on the spectrum because I don’t care about him enough, but I think it’s a fair reading of him and then again people on the spectrum = immature => bigoted trope; though if one wants to read Gojou as the victim of privilege and patriarchy that’s also fair imo). Of course Gojou, a bishounen, a man, is beloved by the fandom. Yorozu is dead in the water.
The latter I disagree with on cultural grounds. From the era she comes from it makes perfect sense that she chases a man, that she wants to be a formal wife not a concubine.
Genji Monogatori is not unlike a wish-fulfillment self-insert fanfic* about the ideal man of the Heian era who is perfect not only because of how cultured he is, and because of the high aristocratic position he hold but because he takes care of the women in his life even after he loses interest in them. He doesn’t abandon them. I read GM many years ago, and not all of it and I’m to lazy to google it but the amount of women he courts and has relations with goes into dozens. He has wives and concubines and more fleeting romances. And yet he’s the perfect man of the era, even for the author’s self-insert who he sidelines at some point in the story for a younger woman.
Women in the Heian era didn’t really have names, at least ones we know of, the names we call them by were either references to their male relatives and their social position, or some pseudonyms. They barely had rights. Men could pursue many women at once. Marriage was coveted but impossible to attain for many women. And many of them ended up forgotten, living in poverty.
I’ve personally always liked Sei Shounagon more than Murasaki Shikibu because she was more defiant towards that system. Whereas Murasaki, who criticised Shounagon for gilrbossing, wrote GM a little feel good fantasy about a man who didn’t exist, a man who’d save a woman, treat her right. A little fantasy which women could read and dream, forget about their reality.
This is the reality that Yorozu comes from. Like she even downright says it, she wants to be a wife and he’s not allowed concubines, she wants to be the only one taken care of. And Sukuna doesn’t treat her request as stupid he doesn’t criticise it once. Don’t get me wrong, he hates the idea, he doesn’t seem to like Yorozu much. But coming from the same cultural context as she does, he absolutely gets what she’s trying to do and why.
He might also have no enthusiasm for the concept because there’s a hint of class difference between them. I think the poem(Gege, it should’ve been waka/tanka, was that too many syllables for a simple cat like you?) is there to highlight that. Yorozu tries to flirt in the courtly manner, writes him a poem. But as he points out the poem is shit, it doesn’t meet his standards. And poem writing in Heian was very much an aristocratic skill and women were very good at it. This indicate that she wasn’t someone from the highest aristocratic circles, she wasn’t rubbing shoulders with royalty, she wasn’t a lady in waiting. He doesn’t even answer with his own poem. Surely because he has no interest in courting her but he might also think it’s beneath him to properly respond to a subpar flirt like that.
This can show that he’s from high aristocratic circles and she isn’t but she’s trying act like it. She’s social climbing. The mention of villages might also point to that. In Shibuya Sukuna levels a part of a major city. She’s talking about villages, their perception of scale seems to be completely different.
They clearly know each other because she’s powerful. Powerful enough for him to acknowledge her, he likes when people have skills. But if I’m reading the class difference right, had he been a normal aristocrat not a sorcerer and had she been a normal woman of her time, who wasn’t at court, and not a sorcerer, they likely wouldn’t have met.
Of course everything I wrote above can be refuted by saying that I put more thought into this than Gege did. That Gege hates their female characters. There’s no way for me to refute that apart from saying that people putting thoughts or lack there of into other people’s heads makes me uncomfortable. But if you feel comfortable with that then go ahead.
And I’m not saying here that Yorozu is super well developed or something and that there will be a good pay off to her appearance because I can’t predict the future. I’m just saying that the idea of her feels grounded to me. I wish she existed separately from Tsumiki and they both got explored properly and it’s not unfair to worry that they won’t be.
_____
* Genji Monogatari is very “problematic” if viewed through the lens of the moral purity that’s becoming more and more pervasive online. People who subscribe to that should stay away from it, because besties you don’t have the range for it.

Okay we're getting nowhere and I don't have the char limit in asks to counter properly but just wanted to make clear that when I said you were being rude, I didn't mean to me personally but in saying things like "gojou's fans know no cringe".
"I don't have the char limit in asks to counter properly" - then dm me.
"Okay we're getting nowhere" - i don't know where the destination is so i can only trust you on this.
as to that particular tag being rude, yeah, it absolutely is. this is some unfortunate coincidence that you haven't come across the posts or tags where i talk this way because i often do. and i'm being very sincere here, i do not expect people to know all my posts. it's just unfortunate that you weren't forewarned and got a wrong impression of me.
i have for a very long time expressed extreme exasperation with the juju fandom. i have written that it gives me brain damage. i compared it to toxic waste. these are rude things to say regularly, especially without caveats like "some people in the jjk fandom ... ".
but i also have an about section on this blog which very explicitly says that this is my personal hoarding blog. this blog exists exclusively to cater to me and my fandom experience. that's why i vent and rant on it.
for example i vent on in about how gojou, getou and stsg fans are making the fandom quite insufferable for me, a person who:
1. used to like gojou but liked him because i see him as extremely flawed;
2. despises getou as a person for being a fascist and supremacist but used to like his descent into that ideology, not the execution in 0 though,
3. who gave zero shits about them as a pairing, like never thought about it on my own.
thank so the fandom now i can't stand gojou, getou and their ship anymore.
i love kenjaku and the getou and stsg fans who constantly erase them are aggravating.
getou fans who consistently pretend he wasn't genocidal are aggravating, especially considering how anti fascist and leftist a lot of juju is. gojou fans who act like his shit doesn't stink are frustrating too. these two exist probably 80% as fanon on this website.
stsg and gojou fans who think every fucking panel and every fucking moment in jjk is a parallel to either gojou or stsg. that will flood the juju tags with these inane farfetched takes even on moments that are specifically about other characters. yuuji, my absolutely fucking favourite character in juju is probably the main victim of this. almost everyday i look at a post with a manga panel or screen cap of characters i like, click to expand the post just to read some absolute gibberish about how this particular panel, this particular moment is actually about gojou or getou or them together...
this is how the fandom feels to fans of yuuji, kenjaku, megumi and others. gojou and getou fans think the fandom revolves around them, that it's their job let fans of other characters know that their favs are nothing more than stand ins for gojou and getou. that their stories exist only as reference to gojou and getou's stories... instead of, and i know it's fucking wild, letting others enjoy their thing without having to be bombarded by characters they don't give a shit about.
my friend witnessed a situation when gojou fans literally invaded and spammed a jjk server. making everyone else in that server have a bad day.
idk if there are any yuuji or kenjaku fans who go into gojou or getou's tags to create posts about how gojou or getou moments are actually just reference to yuuji or kenjaku moments. is that an actual thing that happens?
what have we done to gojou and getou's fans? what is our fucking crime that we can't enjoy our parts of the fandom in peace?
there are so many blogs that love gojou or even focus on him. and you came to me, a person whose interest in jjk can be boiled down to:
i'm not normal about yuuji
i love the mindfuck that is kenjaku
i love all the leftist themes in juju, its convoluted magic system and the way the multiple parallel plots used to run
i thirst after sukuna especially in his true form
i miss nobara a lot
i actually like angel, hana, yorozu, uro...
a person who wrote things like: gojou die challenge, or how i wanted sukuna to graphically and gratuitously eat gojou at the end of this fight to compensate for the brain damage i was getting from reading text posts on this website. that i hope that if he dies his fans will rage quit the fandom and we will finally be allowed not to think about him.
a person who practically never reblogs individual art of him because i can't look at him anymore.
and you come to poke me, to insinuate that my subjective opinions are somehow lesser from yours which you apparently consider objective or whatever, dear gojou fan.
and now you come here sulking that this is going nowhere... what is going nowhere? what did you set out to do? evangelise to me about gojou? because it's not enough that the majority adores him? no one is allowed not to care about him or the crime dislike him? no one is allowed not to be impressed by him? no one is allowed to prioritise different things about juju than you?
please, for the love of the manga gods, what did i fail to guess that you want from me? and how am i responsible for that, dear stranger who approached me?
i'm so exasperated. this is not an excuse, this is an explanation. i vent my frustrations in a rude way, it is what it is.
