Elections held on June 24, 2018, not valid and binding because of the Turkish Constitution and illegal votes.
Neither the Turkish President nor the members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly have any immunity from heavy criminal and political punishment.
The President and the members of the Parliament were not elected as per the constitution. Therefore, they are all not officially the president and members of the Turkish Parliament. The decision of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to hold elections on June 24, 2018 is invalid and non-binding, as it is contrary to the provisional provision in the temporary 21st Article of the Constitution…

In other news, the Constitution Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly just approved the legislative proposal that redefines "marriage" as "the union of a man and a woman" in order to preserve the family as "a sacred institution", in Pride Month no less.
Tumblr media
(This is the official website of the Grand Assembly, said legislative proposal explained in detail. The highlighted part emphasizes that a marriage can only be between a man and a woman.)
This was Erdogan's first course of action after getting re-elected on May 28th. He's always been a far-right conservative president, but his homophobic campaigns have gotten so much worse over the last years & months leading up to the election. He's been calling LGBTQ+ people 'perverts' & weaponizing homophobia against his opposition & giving hate speeches all over the country in the name of "religion."
Why is this important? Aside from the obvious discrimination we're facing, Turkey is one of the 9 countries among 18 countries in the Middle East where the same-sex activity is legal. (In the rest of those countries it's either punishable by prison or death.) Erdogan is highly unlikely to stop here, with this one single law. His 2nd term is to last 5 years, and there's no guarantee that he won't propose another legislation criminalizing same-sex relationships all together. His government previously tried to ban Pride Parades several times, had students arrested over LGBTQ+ artworks and made many other unjust arrests, specifically aiming students & opposing journalists. Additionally, trans suicides and murders peaked during his administration.
This post is long over-due, because I had no energy to make it. I'm tired & we all are. Happy Pride to all my LGBTQ+ Turkish & Kurdish & Circassian & Armenian and other Middle Eastern followers, who have suffered under his regime, to out and closeted ones. I love you & please survive.

On this day (March 3, 1924 CE {26/27 Rajab, 1342 AH}) - exactly 100 Gregorian years - the Ottoman Caliphate was officially abolished by the newly founded Turkish Republic under Mustafa Kemal (more popularly known as Atatürk).
The last Ottoman Caliph (pictured) - Abdülmecid II - was sent into exile in France along with the rest of the family of the House of Osman.
------
Osmanli Tarihi Arşivi (Ottoman History Archive):
Let us venture back in history; the year is 1924 and it is sometime after midnight.
A single light, coming from the library is still on in Dolmabahçe palace. There, an old man sits quietly and reads the Qur'an, pondering over the state of his nation.
His name is Abdulmecid II and he is the 116th Caliph of Islam. Two years prior, his cousin Sultan Mehmed Vahdeddin VI had been exiled to Italy and the Ottoman Sultanate had been abolished by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
On the night of March 3rd, a young army messenger opened the door to the library. The Caliph continued to read the Qur'an and the messenger was initially taken aback by the sight, but he forced himself to read out the proclamation from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
The Caliph refused to leave Istanbul, but his staff were worried that they would all be killed by the army who had now surrounded the palace and had him and his family at gunpoint.
After weighing the few options he had, he reluctantly packed some of his clothes and went into exile. Before dawn prayer, the Caliph was taken to the Çatalca train station where he and his family were put on the Orient Express bound for Switzerland.
An envelope containing £2000 was given to Abdulmecid Efendi. The station master quickly ushered the Caliph and his family into his small house adjoining the train station to shelter them from the cold on the platform while they awaited the train.
As they drank tea, the Caliph thanked him for his hospitality. The station master - a Jewish man - began to cry. “How can you thank me?” he asked. Instead, he in turn thanked the Caliph for the honour of being able to serve him even if for a brief moment.
In the morning, the population awoke to the news in shock - the Caliphate had been abolished. There were isolated riots and uprisings in various places, but the army put them down.
The last Caliph spent his days walking along the promenade in Paris, France. There, he lived a quiet life until he died in 1944 CE during the Nazi occupation of France.
As no Caliph had ever been buried in non-Muslim lands, Abdulmecid II's body was eventually transported to, and buried in Jannat Al-Baqi cemetery in the blessed city of Madinah, Arabia. The major political and spiritual office of Caliph had also been buried with him as well.

Introduction
Financial technologies environment has improved very quickly over the last 20 years. This development causes enormous challenges to national and international policy and law makers. This paper will give a brief outline of recent preparations for new Turkish Crypto Law 2024. At the beginning, it is useful to remember what the meaning of FinTech is.
For a comprehensive discussion on the FinTech Environment in Turkey, take a look at our article on FinTech Guide in Turkey
What is the meaning of FinTech?
The term “FinTech” describes emerging electronic payment methodologies based on the automation and facilitation of payment systems. Indeed FinTech contains a broad range of payment models such as electronic money institutions, payment institutions, digital banks, online insurance agencies, and crowdfunding platforms and blockchain such as crypto currencies. What is really important is that the FinTech environment is mostly dedicated to the development of faster and better delivery of financial services.
For our work and all legal services on the matter of financial technologies, please click our “Practice Areas”, titled, FinTech
For more discussion for banking and finance, take a look at our article on Banking and Finance Law in Turkey
What is the main role of FinTech ecosystem?
The main intention of financial technologies market is to facilitate shopping and trade. There are several advantages of alternative virtual payment instruments. Financial technologies provide numerous tools for individuals.
What is the news on new Turkish Crypto Law 2024?
The draft bill on Turkish Crypto Law 2024 came to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Draft on New Turkish Crypto Law 2024 was introduced by Mehmet Şimşek, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to the Parliament agenda. That step is of utmost importance in the development of the digital era in Turkey. It should be remembered that the previous step for digital technologies was to recognize digital wallets by means of new regulation of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye.
For more observation about digital wallet regulation, take a look at our article on Digital Wallet Era in Turkey
What is the importance of the draft bill on new Turkish Crypto Law 2024?
Main intention of the draft on New Turkish Crypto Law is to provide a compliance of the capital markets system in line with the Financial Task Force standards and principles aiming at the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing. It is firstly intended to formulate core standards for the definition of crypto asset, crypto asset exchange platform, crypto assets service providers. Secondly, legal obligations will be placed for the certification and licensing of crypto currency service providers. In this context, Central Bank of Republic of Türkiye will be authorized for granting licensing for the establishment and operation. Thirdly, the relevant crypto asset is subject to an approval process by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK).
Conclusion
It would be a little earlier now to make comments on the potential results of the Law. Because it is beyond easy to imagine to what extent all articles in draft will be finalized and adopted by the Parliament. Because Parliament has a direct power to make comprehensive changes and|or rejection of the draft bill completely. Nevertheless, considering that the fundamental objective of policy makers from the draft is to introduce certification and|or licensing and the approval of blockchain instruments in Turkey. In this way, crypto assets will be regarded and recognized as capital markets instruments as well.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced on Monday night that after months of obstruction, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has finally agreed to support Sweden’s NATO membership bid – a move hailed by other members of the Western military alliance.
“I stand ready to work with President Erdogan and Turkey on enhancing defence and deterrence in the Euro-Atlantic area. I look forward to welcoming [Swedish] Prime Minister [Ulf] Kristersson and Sweden as our 32nd NATO ally,” the White House said in a statement.
“At 32, we’re all safer together,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock wrote on Twitter, while British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also said that Sweden joining would “make us all safer”.
Stoltenberg said that Erdogan’s decision to support Sweden’s membership was an historic step which makes all NATO allies stronger
“President Erdogan has agreed to forward Sweden’s accession protocol to the [Turkish] Grand National Assembly as soon as possible and ensure ratification,” Stoltenberg said.
Turkey had blocked Sweden’s membership bid over its claims that Stockholm has been hosting and supporting Kurdish groups that Turkey designates as terrorist organisations.
Sweden changed legislation and promised action to accommodate Turkey’s demands but Erdogan refused to drop his objections, seeking further concessions, until his apparent about-turn on Monday.
However, no timeline has been announced for the Turkish parliament’s ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership protocol.
The agreed conditions for President Erdogan lifting his veto are also unknown.
Erdogan was previously asking the US to sell him new F-16 jet fighters and the Turkish leader this week unexpectedly asked Brussels to revive Ankara’s EU membership process, which has been practically dead for more than a decade.
“First, let’s clear Turkey’s way in the EU, then let’s clear the way for Sweden, just as we paved the way for Finland,” Erdogan told a news conference on Monday before he travelled to Vilnius for this week’s NATO summit.
The NATO Summit is opening on Tuesday with the alliance’s leaders expected to adopt new defence plans amidst the war in Ukraine.
The US and other members pushed Turkey to ratify Sweden’s membership before the summit but Ankara insisted that Sweden must take concrete steps, including the extradition of political fugitives by Stockholm.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prompted Sweden and Scandinavian neighbour Finland to apply to join the Western alliance.
Finland joined NATO in April. All NATO members except for Turkey and Hungary – which has been acting in cooperation with Turkey – have since ratified Sweden’s NATO membership in their parliaments.
Countries can join NATO only if all its members unanimously agree, which effectively gave Turkey veto powers over Sweden’s bid to join.
A Council of Europe report said on June 23 that Turkey’s government was using its blockade of Sweden’s NATO membership bid to exert its power over its critics living abroad.

IMAGES: RAF Voyager aircraft conducts training with Qatar Air Force Rafales
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 06/29/2022 - 12:00 PM in Military
A Voyager refueling aircraft of the Royal Air Force (RAF) carried out a large air-air refueling exercise with Rafale fighters of the Qatari Emirate Air Force (QEAF) in the latest development of joint United Kingdom-Qatar air activities.
Tumblr media
Flying from a Qatari air base, Voyager, from Brize Norton RAF Base, participated in Exercise Soaring Falcon and performed air-to-air refueling in various conditions with Qatar's Rafale jets. The training is designed to allow Voyager crew and Qatari pilots to build interoperability between the personnel and equipment of the two air forces.
Tumblr media
“It was a privilege to work alongside our Qatari allies during this exercise. Integrated activities like these not only offer the opportunity to improve our skills and help develop bilateral air-to-air refueling knowledge with our partner, but also demonstrate the capacity and reach available when we work together," said Squadron Leader Harvey, Executive Director of the 10th Squadron.
Tumblr media
This is the second exercise of its kind, which is the regular deployment of the Qatar Air-Air Refueling Service, an agreement between the United Kingdom and Qatar to provide an air-to-air refueling service to the Qatari Emirate Air Force through occasional, short developments in the region. Voyager's developments offer a valuable training opportunity for both air forces; increasing their interoperability with other nations.
Tumblr media
Exercise Soaring Falcon is based on the United Kingdom's strong defense partnership with Qatar, which is the only nation in which the United Kingdom shares joint squadrons: Squadron 11 of the Qatari Emirate Air Force, the joint training squadron QEAF-RAF Hawk at Leeming RAF Base and Squadron 12, the RAF-QEAF Typho Squadron 12 will be sent to Qatar later this year and will support air safety operations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Tumblr media
Qatar and the United Kingdom share mutual interests in ensuring stability in the Middle East. Joint operational training in exercises like this increases Qatar's ability to meet shared security challenges, which helps protect the prosperity and security of both nations.

💫 SEASON’S GREETING ; HSHQ ADVENT 2O22 💫
Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı (National Sovereignty and Children's Day - April 23rd)
“You are the rose, star and light of our future. You are the ones who will enlighten our country” - Mufasta Kemel Ataturk
Despite her aloof nationalism, Hafiz is a deeply proud Turk. She lives and breathes progress for the betterment of the conditions of women and children in Turkey. It’s believed that her passion came from the colorful sea of bright eyes and waving red flags on National Sovereignty and Children's Day. This day marks the grand celebration of the consolidation and creation of the Grand National Turkey Assembly on April 23rd 1920. Mufasta Kemel Ataturk envisioned a new self determined nation and believed that the place for growth was with the children.
Hafiz attended her first walk around Ankara with her mother when she was around four years old. After a slew of hand shaking and warm embraces, she felt lighter out on the streets amongst other children her age than within the walls of the palace. She loved being able to hear their laughter steeped lives and stories that seemed to grow larger with each passing year. This public holiday also happens to land during her birthday month which makes it even more special.
Every year, Hafiz will often go out into the city to hand out paper made flowers and toys to the children that pass on the street. She doesn’t like to make a spectacle of it and doesn’t often publicize that she’ll be participating. Hafiz believes that this day is for the children who will soak the seeds of progress and enlightenment for a greater Turkey; it’s their day.  When she isn’t out stealthy handing out goodies, she will visit schools with her leather bound checkbook to assess the needs of each school building to help them through the rest of the year.

Bulgaria's Transition to Democracy 1990-1992
Electoral Shifts and Social Unrest
In June 1990, the Bulgarian Socialist Party secured victory in the Grand National Assembly elections, surprising urban areas where expectations had favored other parties. The mass discontent in major cities, fueled by trade union pressures, led to spontaneous forms of protest, including rallies, “tent settlements,” strikes, and student sit-ins. Amid these expressions of political dissatisfaction, a notable development was the emergence of the Rights and Freedoms Movement (RFM), a political organization representing ethnic Turks. However, the party’s future existence faced contradictions with the newly adopted Constitution in July 1991. President Petar Mladenov’s resignation in the fall of 1990 marked a turning point, with Zhelyo Zhelev succeeding him. Prime Minister Andrei Loukanov, who led a second Socialist government, also resigned in November 1990.
The Challenge of Coalition Governance
To honor the agreement of a “peaceful transition” established at the round table, the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) formed a joint government. Led by neutral lawyer Dimitar Popov, the new cabinet aimed to address the crises that unfolded during Loukanov’s rule. Popov’s memorable response to concerns about the impact of price liberalization on February 1, 1991, became a historical phrase: “For God’s sake Guided Turkey Tours , brothers, do not buy!”
In October 1991, the UDF narrowly won parliamentary elections, and Filip Dimitrov, its leader, became the head of the first “blue” government, initially supported by the Turkish RFM. Despite high hopes, the consequences were dire, with agriculture in ruins, decreased production, societal divisions, including within the Orthodox Church, and strained international relations. Zhelyo Zhelev was elected president in January 1992, but both he and the cabinet struggled to consolidate support for the “Blue idea” and quell growing indignation. The first “blue” government eventually resigned in October 1992 when the Turkish ethnic party RFM withdrew its parliamentary support from the UDF.
