Vandals have targeted public monuments since the days of the Sphinx — but El Parque de Mexico seemed immune to vandalism for a long time.
It dates back to 1976 when longtime Eastside Councilmember Art Snyder secured funds for its creation as part of a grade separation project for the railroad tracks serving Lincoln Heights’ southern border. The location of El Parque was deliberate. Across the street is Lincoln Park, which has hosted Cinco de Mayo celebrations since the 1930s. The first Mexican hero honored with a statue was Benito Juarez, Abraham Lincoln’s Mexican counterpart. His statue looked across Main Street to a 1926 bronze bust of Honest Abe.

Hey! Had a question about Greaser. My friend asked me if Greaser was Mexican since Greasers came from Mexican Culture. I always thought he was exclusively Italian American so I thought I'd ask you directly!
this is a really great question and i'm glad you asked. it's a can of worms i didn't know needed to be opened.
so, to start, greaser is neither mexican or italian-american. he's a skeleton monster, though i guess you could say he's american to some extent since the greaser subculture (characterized by its members' fashion/music preferences like leather jackets/rock and roll) did originate in the U.S. however, let's talk about the term "greaser" for a second, and where that originated.
interestingly, when you look it up on google, one of the first answers you'll see (from wikipedia) is that it was originally a slur used against mexicans, "derived from what was considered one of the lowliest occupations typically held by Mexicans, the greasing of the axles of wagons". whether the slur was used in this context first, or much earlier as suggested by Gustavo Arellano in this article, it clearly has roots in the U.S. as a prejudiced and stereotyping word against those of mexican, latin american or spaniard descent.
in contrast, the american greaser subculture that developed in the 50s and 60s in the U.S. is its own entity (characterized by its fashion and music like i mentioned). it was a cultural movement that emerged among working-class youth and included various ethnic groups, but mostly latine and white immigrants. i have no idea how and why the subculture picked up the term "greaser", and it seems like the group themselves didn't even identify with the term at the time. here's a really great post by zephywolf0 that details a bit more about the origin of "greaser", talks a bit about the 1855 anti-vagrancy act (also known as "the greaser act"), and talks about the shift from slur to subculture.
so, while the term "greaser" did begin with negative connotations targeting mexicans and latine, the greaser subculture of the 50s and 60s in the U.S. has come to represent something else entirely.
i wanna mention at this point that i am in now way an expert on this piece of history. i always want to try my best to stay informed, but i may not always do it right and i encourage others who know better to let me know if i've gotten something wrong.

Before he was an animator and later, director for Universal/Lantz known for his more realistic, weighty animation compared to the others, Manuel Moreno was a teenaged artist working for the Junior Times (a children’s division of the LA Times) around 1924-1926. With his first work there being published around 1923, a year before he worked for the newspaper, The first image is from 1925 and the second is from 1926. After his stint working for the LA Times, (their junior division as said before) He would end up applying as an inbetweener for George Winkler’s Studio around March of 1928 alongside Ray Abrams and would later become an assistant for there & Lantz before being promoted to animator sometime around 1930.
Source is an article from a few months ago done by Gustavo Arellano profiling about Moreno that appeared in the LA Times, Professor & Walter Lantz animation historian, Tom Klein helped out as well.

It was never my favorite burrito. Its flavors are pleasant, but I’ve always rolled my eyes whenever friends have invited me to eat it — because I’ve always associated Chipotle with gringos. I hear “Chipotle,” and I think, “cultural-appropriating pendejo.”

"But where did the American taco really come from? And what does it say about us?
First of all, it’s a mistake to believe that the iconic hard shell taco is something that clueless white people invented. “Both Americans and Mexicans would love to believe that the hard-shell taco was a travesty of an invention by clueless gabachos. But that’s simply not the case,” says Gustavo Arellano, perhaps America’s foremost scholar on the taco. Arellano is the writer behind the advice column “Ask A Mexican,” the author of Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, (https://www.amazon.com/Taco-USA-Mexican-Conquered-America/dp/1439148627/) and also the editor of the OC Weekly newspaper in his native Orange County, California.
“Mexicans have been eating what we now call tacos since time immemorial,” says Arellano. “The idea of stuffing something into a tortilla—we’ve been doing that since there were tortillas, so we’re talking thousands of years ago.” But Mexican cuisine is incredibly regional, being almost as varied in climate and geography as the U.S., from deserts in the north to the tropics in the south, the Sierra Madre mountain range in the west to central valleys. And Mexican cuisine is a product of varied influences the same way American cuisine is; the many different Indian populations; the Spanish conquest; waves of immigrants from North, South, and (especially recently) Central America; French, German, and Jewish immigrants from Europe during World War II; Lebanese and other Arab immigrants who brought meat-on-a-spit traditions."
