I got tagged by @kajsaschubelerwrites​, so let’s get interrogated!

1. How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing on and off since I was six years old. I had a major break from approximately 2011-2016, during which I wrote very infrequently. Then, I started daily writing in January 2016 and have kept it up ever since.

2. What are the major themes of your current wip(s)? 

I don’t have any novel-length WIPs, so I will talk about the short stories I’m currently devoting my attention to.

The first is about technology and family. The second story is about ambition and futility.

3. What do you want people to take away from your story once they’ve read it? 

I rarely think about that. I would like to leave an impression on my readers, of course, but what that impression is, depends on the reader. In general, I would like to make people feel more enchanted with the world they live in, to imagine more, to think beautifully.

4. Would you be excited if people write fanfiction about your wip(s)? 

I wrote fanfiction exclusively for several years as a teen, so I can never say no to fanfiction of my works. I would certainly be excited to think that I had such an effect on a reader, but at the same time, I would like to see and inspire more original works.

5. What’s your go-to writing beverage? 

Like Kajsa, it’s water for me.

6. Who is your favorite OC? Tell me about them? 

The characters in my stories are rarely defined enough to be considered ‘OCs’, so I can’t really answer this question.

7. Do you feel that mistakes are important learning tools in the writing journey? 

Mistakes are important when learning just about any skill, and writing is a skill (or a family of skills). Much of the psychology of writing really comes down to having the fortitude to recognise and fix your mistakes.

8. Rank your ocs by their capability in a foot chase (either running after or from smth, your choice) 

I’ll play along for this one. The protagonist of the first story I mentioned above should be faster than the main character of the second story. This is because the second story’s main character doesn’t get much exercise.

9 . Does your wip have romance? Tell me about it!!! 

Like Kajsa, I rarely write romance. My two current stories don’t have romance at all.

10. Do you believe in the advice kill your darlings? 

It’s a difficult pill to swallow. It’s necessary, but you have to understand that it’s not binary. There are big darlings and small darlings. I’ve managed to kill the latter—favourite lines of dialogue, turns of phrase, colourful metaphors, special wordplay, and so on. The bigger darlings of plot points, characters, narrative themes and so on, I find it difficult to touch those.

11. Do you prefer plotting or worldbuilding? Why? 

I am not very good at either! I would prefer plotting out of the two. While I enjoy worldbuilding and imagined worlds of all kinds, I do like to think from a story-first perspective. I feel that lacunae and mysteries are very important when creating a world, so I almost never ‘build’ a world so much as letting it grow and recording a small, intriguing part of it.
