hannahgreenecostumes: This time 2 years ago we were wrapping out @ourflagonmax Season 1! We made SO MANY costumes, and with block shooting/last minute casting there wasn't never a down moment because we were always rushing to catch up. It was the hardest show I've worked on, but here is an upbeat throwback reel where everything looks easy and fun! 🐈💔🏴‍☠️

I haven't seen anyone else talk about these yet so forgive me if this is a repeat. But I found some of the ofmd costumes posted on Instagram and they're just so gorgeous I needed to yell about them!
This is the Instagram!
Just look at this pattern matching! This is the jacket from the party episode and I am absolutely obsessed. There's more information about it in the post!
Tumblr media
And some detail shots of Blackbeard's coat from the same episode! This is like catnip to my brain.
Tumblr media
Please go and give it tons of attention because as I'm making this post they only have a few hundred likes and I just need them to be seen. They also have a post on the all white coat here and it's just so beautiful!!

I JUST LOVE COSTUMES SO MUCH THANK YOU FOR INDULGING ME
UPDATE EDIT:

My absolute fav look from the show and the fiscal rationale for why I'll never be a cosplayer, taken from hannahgreenecostumes on IG.

hannahgreenecostumes: Binging Our Flag Means Death on @hbomax and enjoying all the costumes we made. Christine Wada designed and built almost every piece worn by our principal actors and I was her fabric sourcer out hunting for fabrics, trims, notions and SO MANY BUTTONS. This is the infamous “White Look” that @hilaurawong (the Key MTO Coordinator) and I still have PTSD over. We ended up making 10 multiples using over 150 yards of fabric, 100 yards of soutache for the wave trim and I think we had about a week and a half to source/build/trim everything out. Oh man, just writing that out makes me want to go and lie down. Costumes built by @heathervanderstitch @shizenbeauty Gladys Cepeda #hargatecostumes and @stitchcostume

hannahgreenecostumes: Stede’s Le Laid look from #ourflagmeansdeath Episode 5. This spectacular jacket was made from embroidered scenic tapestry panels found at @internationalsilks that the costume designer Christine Wada fell in love with early on in prep. However, it was $300/yd and a these period coats take at least 5-6 yards of fabric to make and that’s before you factor in an elaborate pattern. We ended up getting only 5 yards and just made it work. When you watch the episode take a look at the impeccable pattern matching done by our pattern maker & fitter Joanne Mills and her team @yuanannehua & Seda Tufenkjian!

hannahgreenecostumes: The Bird Robe: Our entire shop was obsessed with this beautiful block printed velvet fabric that we got from India. Sadly we bought out the vendor to make this robe, then when we wanted to make a multiple we couldn’t source enough fabric and had to make it work with just the one. Lining is a fuchsia matka from Sai Silks in NYC with vintage tassels from @westerncostumecompany

hannahgreenecostumes: Our Flag Means Death episode 5, Black Beard’s ‘Le Laid’ look. For this particular ensemble the costume designer Christine Wada found a coat with an incredible trim design from a rental house. She loved it so much she decided to use it as inspiration for Black Beard’s coat. Like everything we made on this show, our time frame was extremely tight so everything was a mad rush. It took roughly 80 yards of metallic soutache, 3 gross of vintage metal sequins, and a ridiculous amount of hand embroidery to make just one coat. Thankfully we didn’t have to make multiples! MTO/fabric team & sharers of purple coat PTSD @hilaurawong & @maddi_carroll The soutache details done literally overnight by House of Embroidery Made from a purple slub velvet from @internationalsilks And all that vintage metal trim from @tinseltrading and a very kind @etsy store that let us drive several times up to her home in Santa Ana for emergency pick ups when we ran out of trim midway through construction.

heathervanderstitch: To say I was mesmerized by this fabric would be an understatement! @hannahgreenecostumes found this fabric pretty early on in the build and I would stop and admire it everytime I passed it on the shelves. When it came time to make this robe, we were nervous about cutting it because the yardage was limited and we couldn't get more. I started with a traditional kimono pattern draft and added a box pleat at the back neck because costume designer Christine Wada wanted more movement around the feet, but not be too baggy on the shoulders. I also had to add shoulder seams to keep the birds facing up. @shizenbeauty cut very carefully saving fabric, but keeping the birds placed nicely.  @hilaurawong snapped this picture of @shizenbeauty when she was laying it out, you can see the nerves of everyone in the roomon her face! Once it was cut there was no going back! The fabric is velvet and the lining and piping are silk dupioni so it was a bit tricky to sew. @shizenbeauty did a great job of getting that exact 1/8th piping! I swooped in at the end and stitched on those great tassels. I'm still in love with that fabric after all this time!

hannahgreenecostumes: Stede and his robes in Our Flag Means Death! Christine Wada designed two wonderful robes that Stede wears throughout the season, plus a fantastically ruffled nightgown all made by one of the show’s pattern makers @heathervanderstitch and her team @shizenbeauty Maria Ivakhinova and Glady Cepeda! The Yellow Dressing Gown: I believe this was the very first costume piece we made for Stede. It was made out of a crinkle textured rayon with a jacquard floral motif from @moodfabrics in LA with a silk charmeuse lining. The best part about the robe is all the incredible soutache that was all the work of the incredible Maria Ivakhinova

hannahgreenecostumes: Eat your heart out Coco Chanel because when Antoinette looks in the mirror, instead of taking one thing off she adds on 10. Even though Christine Wada designed the full gown for Kristen Schaal for episode 5 of Our Flag Means Death, that brooch bodice is what really takes the cake. Costume buyer Jessie Mann sourced all those beautiful vintage brooches and then they were individually stitched on! Through boning! Gown made by Joanne Mills, @yuanannehua & Seda Tufenkjian with the backside of a pink silk brocade fabric from Fabrics & Fabrics in New York. They were the ones along with Carol Binion who painstakingly stitched all those brooches in place.
