A blu-ray preorder special edition for Beyond the Period came with a special drama extra. So here's my fan translation of that.

Yotsuba Tamaki: Ummm, did it start recording?

Rokuya Nagi: Perfectly.

Yotsuba Tamaki: Alright! Let’s go.

Rokuya Nagi: Ok.

Yotsuba Tamaki: Ready, and-!

Both: Charge! Beyond the Green Room!

Rokuya Nagi: Shortened to,

Yotsuba Tamaki: BtGR! [1] Umm, this movie is a dream live show called Beyond the Period featuring us from the four groups IDOLiSH7, TRIGGER, Re:vale, and ZOOL, for a total of 16 idols.

Rokuya Nagi: Before the Day 2 performance today, IDOLiSH7 is bringing you a look into the different green rooms.

Yotsuba Tamaki: We, IDOLiSH7, told the staff we wanted to do this project, and they suddenly gave us the OK. Isn’t that awesome?

Rokuya Nagi: We wanted to share with you all of the details of what’s going on behind the scenes between rehearsal and the live show.

Yotsuba Tamaki: We’re using the cameras on our smartphones, and behind us you can see the dancers in the hallway. You guys good?

Rokuya Nagi: They’re waving to the camera for us. Oh! Tamaki, what were you just eating?

Yotsuba Tamaki: [through a mouthful] Fancy seedless grapes from the refreshment corner

Rokuya Nagi: Oh, the gifts from Re:vale. In one corner of the hallway, there are many refreshments like this that we’ve received from everyone involved lined up.

Yotsuba Tamaki: Pudding and other things that need to be chilled are in the fridge. Amazing, right? There’s plenty of fruit and sweets and drinks, too. Over here, we also-

Yuki: But I wanted to see Yamato-kun freak out. Right, Momo?

Momo: Right, Yuki.

Nikaido Yamato: There was no need to panic, though. It was obvious you two were up to something.

Osaka Sogo: I’m sorry I didn’t see through such an obvious prank.

Nikaido Yamato: No, that’s not what I meant.

Yuki: You don’t need to apologize, Sogo-kun. If this wasn’t a prank, you definitely would have saved our lives. Thank you.

Osaka Sogo: That’s… I would without hesitation.

Izumi Iori: That aside, Re:vale really likes surprises, don’t you. There was that other time you tricked us before a recording, too.

Nikaido Yamato: It’s just like Re:vale not to feel nervous even on days like this.

Yuki: To that I say Yamato-kun is too stiff. You could relax a bit more.

Nikaido Yamato: Haa?

Osaka Sogo: In other words, you surprised us in order to calm our nerves? Re:vale is amazing…

Momo: Exactly. This one was mostly Yuki’s idea.

Yuki: If we, the most senior idols, did something like this, everyone else would feel a little more at ease, right?

ZOOL - Shuffle Talk 2022 (Episode 1)

Please note: I am NOT a professional and my level of JP is very, very basic. I do this for practice and to share with other fans for fun. Please take my translations with a grain of salt as there may be mistakes. If you see any, please let me know and I can correct them. Touma: So this is Merlion Park…! It’s so big!

Haruka: Whoa… It’s my first time in Singapore, but I can see the ocean. It’s a pretty nice view.

Haruka: ….Ah, Touma! Look! It’s the Merlion! (1)

Touma: Oh, it really is! It’s bigger than I expected, Haru!

Minami: Fufu. Even after the long flight, you two are still full of energy.

Torao: Don’t get too excited and fall.

Haruka: I won’t fall! I’m not a child..!

Haruka: It’s good. That kind of thing suits you.

Torao: …Thanks.

Boy: <Mister! I want to be a hero too!>

Torao: <Yeah. You can do it. So wipe those tears, and we’ll go find your father. Can you tell us what he looks like?>

TL Notes:

1. The Merlion is a mascot for Singapore, and there’s a famous statue in Merlion Park. It’s got the head of a lion, and the body of a fish. There’s a handful of these statues, but the original one in Merlion Park is 8.6 meters tall (~28 feet).

2. Sentosa is an island resort off the southern coast of Singapore.

3. A more literal translation would be “It’s annoying that you’re bigger than me.” but I went with this for better context.

Just thought I'd post some random Pixiv recs for my fellow enjoyers of ZOOL shenanigans~

カキ has some really cute illustrations. This is one of my favourite collections, and I particularly love the how it started vs how it's going pic of Touma being all, "uhh, guys???"

猿川円 also does some lovely illustration collections. One of my favourites is a collection of stuff from APOZ and Beyond the Period, partly for this lovely scene of Minami being reminded of Haruki before rejoining the rest of the group.

ymd does a lot of gen stuff as well (along with some ToraMina if you like that sort of thing), and their art is super pretty. This comic collection is very amusing, especially this one. Very rough and short translation...

Haruka: This is hilarious. They’re saying ZOOL get along so well, the four of them should just live together and marry each other. Do we really seem that buddy-buddy?

Touma: M-marry?! Why would they say that!?

And then Haruka, Minami and Torao are like lol sounds like fun, let's do that, live in a crazy expensive Midou residence and buy a really big rice cooker, while Touma eventually just kind of goes along with it and is all

Touma: You really look like you’re enjoying this… Sure, why not. Let’s live together and be happy!

And then there's U, my absolute favourite ZOOL fanartist, who draws the most hilarious comics. I did a rough translation of this collection here when I sent an ask to @always-a-joyful-note, so I'll repost it here for good measure.

Haruka: To... (Touma, I guess...)

Torao: To... (Touma, probably...)

Touma: It's Riku.

And then to save face they all change their answers instead of 'Touma' or 'Inumaru-san' to...

Touma: You can't answer with any of those! (We're idols, you know).

Like the last comic when they finish up work early so Touma asks the others if they want to grab dinner together but they all play hard to get, so he's like, whatever, guess I'll invite Riku instead, and they're like WHY AREN'T YOU TRYING HARDER TO ASK US OUT??? and he's like GOD YOU'RE SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS.

I also greatly enjoyed this collection and this comic of the rest of ZOOL getting jealous of Touma's interactions with Riku the most.

Riku: Take that~ *thwack* I smacked you with my towel, so now we have to hug!

Touma: Uh… I don’t really get it… wait, listen to me!

“who is the cook of zool?”

see, every other group has a great cook in their roster. mitsuki, yuki, and ryuu are all forces to be reckoned with. but zool? here are my thoughts

torao - permabanned from any and every kitchen. one time he almost burnt down the house making mac and cheese. he could maybe make you a pb & j but that’s a STRETCH

touma - situationally good. i recall from (pretty certain) his wonderful octave card that he makes pretty good bbq. but i wouldn’t trust him with much more than the summer cookout. he’s doing his best though

minami - passable. a slightly upgraded version of basic college student survival skills. he can make some pretty good ramen from a packet, fried rice, maybe some fancy toasts for a nice breakfast. not stellar but not torao.

haruka - the secret ace in the hole. actual cooking legend. assigned gordon ramsey at birth. he’s been cooking with his grandma since childhood (see 2022 birthday card), and it would be a disgrace if he wasn’t good at it. the bonus is being able to make his own sweets at home. sometimes he displays affection through homecooked bento and sweets. everyone finds it very endearing.

Natsume Minami: Rather than waiting for a TV program for that, it would be faster to just ask Midou-san.

Inumaru Touma: Haru even leaves behind the oily part when eating kakuni*. Someone like that can’t eat foie gras.

Isumi Haruka: Really?

Midou Torao: Don’t lump foie gras together with pork belly…

TL notes:

3.1. 角煮 - kakuni - a braised pork dish simmered in dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake.

3.2. Crayfish shells are known to contain chitin, which has healing properties.

Yuki references the first four lines of the Tale of the Heike at Momo. We changed the metaphors so it makes sense without the context, but it should have a similar feel. Haruka-kun did all of the work for that, though, lol.
