We really don't like the term "the body." Maybe for those with certain kinds of trauma, it's comforting, but for us, it feels dehumanizing. It's furthering the dissociation from us and our body. So, we call it "our body." We may not all feel attached to it, most of us do not, but it's nonetheless the body we reside in. It's ours. Ours to take care of as it deserves.

It's fascinating how deeply wired some of our base instincts are. I was playing with my cat in a dark room. She looked at me, and her eyes reflected the light in a particular way, and for a brief moment I felt absolute primal terror.

My own cat. Who I spend 24/7 with. Who is 10 times smaller than me and not in any way a threat. But in that moment my hindbrain saw glowing eyes in the dark and yelled "predator" so loud that I unlocked 250 million years of memories of being a tiny prey creature.
