I think there’s substantial evidence that rory had a crush on lindsay growing up. she tells the mark twain magnet story to like anyone who will listen and even before she finds out about lindsay and dean she’s upset by the idea that lindsay might not like her anymore. and when the magnet story is brought up in front of lindsay rory tries to brush it off like it’s not big deal because she’s embarrassed, indicating that it probably meant a lot to her.
Tumblr media
It's not mystery i quite like rory/lindsay as a couple but i have to be honest, i've never really taken canon and looked at it in a different way, like you did. and boy oh boy-- galaxy brain!
lindsay was always probably one of the more popular girls in class, many friends and regularly invited to all of the cool birthday parties. on the other hand, rory wasn't a loser, not at all, but she had a narrow group of good people and that was plenty enough.
if they crossed paths, they politely shared small talks but that was that.
until the science project in 6th grade. very trope-ily, they got paired up and that was the first time rory ever caught glimpses of lindsay, and not school-lindsay-lister. needless to say, she liked what she saw.
they weren't exactly friends after that, but something had certainly changed, although neither could pinpoint the matter. they still shared small talk, quick glances across the rooms, brief waves, but they also didn't shy away from taking every single opportunity to spend a little more time together after school, or on weekends. they didn't plan meetings, they were often just in the same spot at the right time.
they go on the school trip, lindsay buys the magnet, and that brings a whole lot of new feelings into rory's already confused mind. (lindsay's too -queue gay panic)
they grow up, never growing closer than friends-ish; rory goes to chilton; rory dates dean; rory still cannot keep her mind away from lindsay's wit, cleverness, kindness. her beauty. so when she goes to yale, she makes sure to bring the piece of paper with lindsay's number and email (which she has had for years, and never used).
she sends an email.
lindsay replies.
they finally grow closer; friends proper.
one day rory is back in stars hollow and lindsay is crossing the street, their eyes meet for a second, but dean is waiting for the blonde on the sidewalk, with his lopsided smile and small town boy charme.
rory doesn't reply to lindsay's following email. nor the one after that. or the next. she needs time, she tells herself, she is so busy.
lindsay keeps reaching out, until she doesn't.
it's tuesday night, she is walking back from the cafeteria, and a deliciousate form is sitting on the floor just outside her dorm's door, head resting on her bent legs. a blonde head.
the rest, my dears, is as fanfiction-like as it gets, choose your own path. just know that, well, dean is no more than a distant memory to either of them.

gellmore + gellmore babies: summer edition
paris carries sunscreen in her purse everywhere because 'skin cancer is no joke, rory!'
the kids would eat watermelon at lunch, breakfast, midnight snack- rory's partly grossed out, and oftentimes indulges
chloe is, simply put, a water baby; oliver has a master in sandcastle engineering
they're also such better dancers than mama ever was and the stars of miss patty's summer recital
richard gilmore had a brand new pool installed as soon as rory had sent 'babies' first bath' pics
emily has gained a very different kid of standing friday date, and is absolutely not complaining about the shrill squeals
paris adores seeing rory in a bikini. the now present stretch marks, the soft belly, the way her breasts fill the top, now. the thin rose gold band on her ring finger and how her wife never ever takes it off.
the way rory looks in nothing but the suntan lines.
but hey, it's a two ways road if rory's utterly smitten longing looks are anything to go by.
they do spend long hours, late into the night, just admiring each other in bed. and on the hammock out on the beach house's porch. and on the soft cushions on their master's private deck.
rory teaches the twins to swim while paris supervises, apprehensively, from the edge. they're a quick study, and absolutely love it.
lorelai and luke, the spoiling grandparents that they are, take the kids on adventures every sunday; grandpa luke is obsessed with lotioning up the babies ('skin cancer is no joke, lor!') before throwing them up in the air over and over and over again because, despite the age, he's the best splasher ever! ('you heard that, grandma??' he would proudly gloat)
it's a very happy life, over there in boston, but summers are made for long warm days in stars hollow and on the beaches in nantucket.

The galexy brain energy Emily & Mrs.Kim though? (Petition for a year in the life fix-it fic where Emily meets up with Mrs.Kim somehow& this happens instead)
i am ashamed it took me this long, honestly
-----
i actually see them happening in two possible scenarios:
ayitl- emily has lost and grieved her husband. she's leading a somewhat balanced life made of quality time spent with few chosen people, community related engagements, book clubs, shows binging and so on. it's a quiet existence, but a happy one nonetheless. then, one day, while in a marie-kondo moment, emily suddenly remembers that one tiny antique shop she had once visited with rory. of course emily knows lane, she's heard enough about rory's best friend throughout the years, and had even met the girl but for some reason she had never gone back to the store, despite the lovely items she had perused. she's just browsing, she tells herself; she could do with a couple of new ottomans and a tea set but she's also not necessarily on a mission. it's a tad awkward, at first. (ms) kim (who had finally put an end to that sort of marriage of hers soon after the twins' birth) is her usual self- but something is clearly just very different, this time around. she's..intrigued. and very much intriguing. they meet again, after that, for business affairs, antique discussions, tea afternoons which then turn into phone calls just because, dinners, weekends trips. at some point things change. one tender kiss, and life has never been the same.
pre-canon- emily is in college, finally enjoying freedom, and life, aware she's gotta find a proper young man to settle down with yet not so eager to follow through with it. good thing indeed because one day she ends up in this tiny antique shop that penny has strongly recommended, meets the salesperson and she's a fucking goner. kim is the farthest thing from an eligible partner she could have ever imagined, and the one her heart has been set on from day one. not much she can do, really. kim is also the one to 'propose', in her own peculiar way, putting down a pen and papers next to the teacup on a fine spring morning. "I've highlighted all of the spots; just dates and signatures," she says. still sleepy, and taken aback, "what am I signing, exactly?" emily asks. "the new business' contract, of course. we've discussed it, don't yoh remember? we'll officially be equal owners and partners of the shop." good thing emily had picked the perfect ring months prior.

Can you IMAGINE a AYITL alternative where it’s Francie that Paris sees at Chilton instead of Tristan? And then maybe they reconnect and Francie apologizes for the way she treated Paris in high school and they fall in love and live happily ever after, dreaming of world domination together?
YES I CAN AND NOW I DEMAND THAT YOU MAKE IT CANON, YOU COWARDS! (@palladinos)
god, why would you do this to me, on this (not so) fine Thursday?
______________
"Nice suit, Paris."
"Francie."
"I must say, age has done you well," Francie comments, a cheeky smile curving her lips. "You look good."
"I-" Paris tries hard to come up with a sharp reply, and fails. "Thank you. So do you."
"Particularly, I like the bob," the other woman adds, slowly raising a hand to grasp at an errant lock. "it gives you an air of maturity. Quite dashing, really."
Now, Paris is as badass and confident as they come, and she's worked so hard, through the years, to get to this point. Paris is, also, quite extremely gay. That, also, took time. And Francie Jarvis has aged so well. Her hair is longer than it was back in school, blonde now but still curly and so soft looking; her eyes are bright, attentive, and just as blue as she remembers.
And let's mention how her ass looks in that pencil skirt because, damn.
So if Paris stammers a little, mind completely blank all of a sudden, well- it's not her fault.
"So, what's Paris Geller doing, these days? I've heard from Madeline that you've become some hotshot doctor but that's about it."
And this, this, Paris doesn't really know how to handle. The honesty in Francie's eyes, and in her words. The way the woman fidgets with the slim bracelet at her wrist, or the almost bashful smile on her lips. It's throwing her off, quite honestly.
"I didn't know you two kept in touch at all," it's what she settles on.
"Not regularly," the other blonde replies, "but she had messaged me on facebook, asking for a referral, and we've happened to get drinks, with Louise as well, a handful of times."
This is probably the longest conversation the two of them have ever had. Definitely the longest one with no cutting remarks and brash words.
"Of course they have omitted ever mentioning it."
Tilting her head slightly, eyes always fixed on the woman in front of her, Francie considers, "seeing as we've never been particularly close, I don't see the point in either of them even doing it. Do you?"
"No," Paris acknowledges, "but now you're here, and it's like meeting both a ghost from the past, and a complete stranger."
"Not entirely a negative thing."
A small smile slowly takes over Paris' lips when she replies, "not entirely, I suppose."
They regard each other for a minute, then. And Paris decides to take the plunge. "We've fulfilled our duties, yes?" A nod. "How about we take this elsewhere, now?"
"Why, Geller," Francie smirks, eyes big and full of unsaid words, "are you asking me out?"
Shaking her head in amusement, Paris simply offers a noncommittal, "however you wanna phrase it, Francie." And she smiles, her eyes never straying.
More unsaid words. But that's alright because they both know this is already turning into something promising.
"There's a lovely coffee shop five minutes down the road," Francie suggests. "Fancy a ride?"
"Yes."

I know moodboard asks are closed right now, but in a general sense, could you ever see Paris and Honor as a couple?
I never thought of it until realizing that they both have mothers they tolerate at best and a 'certain image' to keep up (Paris an intellectual, Honor a trophy wife/underappreciated) that they may want to rebel against. They'd also seem like the type together who would be annoyed at Rory/Logan behind their backs and talk about it with each other.
i can see pretty much any of our beloved ladies coupled up, in any different variation we could think of, anon.
particularly, when it comes to secondary/tertiary characters we hardly know anything about from canon --i am a sucker for underrated characters.
i hadn't thought of paris/honor so far but now that i have, I absolutely cannot unthink it!
---------
Paris and Honor had always been in each other's lives, very much peripherally speaking. their parents, of course, were part of all of the same circles -attending the same parties and joining all of the same clubs- which means they had basically grown up alongside each other, hardly ever sharing more than a couple, mandatory, pleasantries. which, admittedly, paris had always sucked at (shocker!) so you can guess how well that had gone.
through the years, both girls attended the other's birthday parties, Honor was present for Paris' bat-mitzvah, they also went on a couple of schooltrips together because, for whatever reason, different grades were paired up, every so often.
they never interacted, aside from polite small talk.
then, as they grew, Honor was just so pretty, and smart, and funny that even super confident Paris couldn't avoid being a complete mess around the older girl. girl who was constantly surrounded by the exactly right clique, the perfect boys, the dar-to-be --everything that was expected from a young woman of such background. which paris wasn't, and would never be, despite her upbringing.
funny how Paris would have noticed the lingering, longing, awestruck gazes, if she only had dared to glance at the older blonde for more than a brief second. because Paris was incredibly smart, witty, confident and passionate like nobody else Honor knew. also, totally gorgeous (and, sadly, unaware of it. Honor could only hope to, someday, be the one to offer Paris the reassurance, and boosts of confidence, that she clearly needed.)
so, like, they go their separate lives, never closer than mere acquaintances -always nearby, yet out of reach-, watching each other building their own future and, most often than not, learning about the other just through the grapevine. because they certainly were not friends.
shame.
they both enter and leave relationships -Honor always the arm candy of some proper, handsome young man -her heart, though.. her heart is never invested, and the boys do not last long. after all, Honor dreams of plump lips, and soft breasts, deep deep down. Paris, on the other hand, slowly realizing things about herself, until one day she shows up to some cocktail party, during her second year at yale, arm in arm with this absolutely stunning redhead. and that was that. (paris' parents never openly talk about it, ever, but nanny is proud of her and always treats the (very few) girls she brings home as another acquired child so.. life is good. finally, for once.)
and that's exactly the moment Honor's world tilts on its axis.
four months later, Paris is single, yet again. Honor swoops in, with her pretty (heart)eyes, warm hands and so. many. feeings.
Paris, who never ever ever would have dared imagining a life in which Honor Freaking Huntzberger has a crush on her, and had long settled for simply glancing from the sidelines, until somebody -actually in her league- would show up-- Paris (in no particular order) gay panics, runs away to nyc to dissect the situation with Rory, gay panics some more, reconnects with Terence and analyzes her whole life, melts down with Lorelai and then
then, she gets the girl!
Honor proposes three years later, when they're both well on their way to be professionally accomplished, sharing a townhouse in nyc and parenting the cutest pup.
Paris, who is most certainly not dumb, marries the shit out of -apparently way in her league- Honor Freaking Huntzberger.
[unrelated, but here's rory/honor]

If we’re fallowing AYITL canon: Paris divorces Doyle (but they co-parent), She move’s in with Francie (I’m picturing either townhome or penthouse?), and tbh I can see them just dating for a while but one of them suggests getting married for particular reasons?
she does divorce doyle (good riddance), and she does move into francie's loft before eventually purchasing a townhouse together, some years later, when it becomes obvious that this, what they have, is for keeps. and the twins do need more space to themselves, farther away from the parents (and the noise often coming from their bedroom).
i feel like it would be paris to bring the topic up because francie is happy with how things are, truly, and she's heard enough about paris' first failed marriage that she's not even sure how the doctor would react to a proposal.
hence-- one day paris looks up from the newspaper, her hair and make-up perfect, but she's still wearing nightclothes, and francie is drinking her morning coffee right there, leaning her hips against the lower cabinets. she's got this soft look in her eyes, that is always on when paris is around.
and that's when paris blurts out: "we should get married. I think it's time."
francie, for her part, half chokes on her drink, half dies on the spot. "excuse me, what was that, again?"
"yes," paris repeats, nonchalantly, "we really should. tax purposes and all that."
oh.
"paris geller," francie grits through her teeth, "i must have gotten that wrong because you cannot possibly have suggested that we get married, for convenience."
"I mean, there's perks to wed. you must know that, Fran."
stay calm. one, two, three, fo- "I cannot believe you." Francie can't refrain from saying.
"oh, come on!" paris replies, finally lowering the paper to offer her full attention.
"no. paris, no." and francie truly is fuming now. "i love you, exactly as you are, but this improvised proposal, for tax purposes -also, what the fuck?- this is too much. after five years, we owe each other better than that."
sighing deeply while shaking her head, paris stands up to march into the office at the end of the short hallway. it's about two minutes of francie just standing there, disbelief clear on her face, coffee long forgotten, when paris stomps her way back into the kitchen.
"here," she says, stretching her arm out. it's a tiny box, deep petroleum green in color and velvety, right there in her palm.
francie covers the few steps separating them and hesitantly, reverently almost, picks it up. "is this-"
"i've had this custom-made after our bali trip. i knew, then, that it would be yours, someday."
"paris," francie whispers. "that was three years ago."
"well, yeah," the other woman replies, bashful and adorable, eyes locked on her partner, nevertheless. "i just didn't want to rush into things, and you never really dropped any hints that you may want to get hitched, eventually."
"god, for that big brain of yours you can be extremely daft, at times."
"geez, thank you." remembering the whole point of them even having this conversation, "so, will you?"
"uh?"
"marry me, francie. i promise you, not just for tax purposes."
"of course i will marry you, you charming, frustrating, unbelievably incredible woman."

Rory's Wedding
Rory proposes, Paris proposes in return -because idiots in love were both just waiting for the right moment, hiding engagement rings around- and their wedding day is the most wonderful one.
Lily's birth will later take the lead but, you know, nobody's gonna argue with that.

i could totally see lane owning a really cool music venue in nyc that develops a well respected reputation within the alt rock/indie scene. like it’s successful, and she’s super fulfilled and happy, but it’s also realistic you know? like in my head even if she does get married to zach and gets pregnant she gets an abortion and divorces him, and leaves stars hollow. the person who helps her find her footing in new york is, of all people, jess, since he’s knowledgeable about the city and the music scene there. so he’s kind of her point of entry. nothing romantic ever happens between them but they stay good friends and even roomies for a while, that way dave rygalski can come back into the picture somehow. oh and at some point dave and jess had a thing but they’re all cool now.

the lorelai/rachel (one shot) AU i may potentially, actually, write and post, someday.
______________
[Modern days -because I cannot stand to write fics not set in current times.]
Lorelai is in need of some professional shots of the Dragonfly because they're finally updating the inn's website and charming pictures are a must.
Luke, the local diner's owner -and unofficial best friend (never a love interest. he's also dating..idk- Michel?)-, suggests that she reaches out to Rachel Hadley, who's recently moved back to town.
Rachel and Luke went to hs together and became good friends (never dated!); however, lost track of each other when she started globetrotting for work.
Lorelai is intrigued and so, does call her. They meet up at the Inn, flirt a lot, go on dates, fall in love and live happily ever after. -Insert loads of cuteness and flirting and banter, in between-
Rory, who is twelve when she first meets her mom's girlfriend (whom she absolutely adores and like, quite easily earns the role of 'Mama'), someday will (partly) follow into Rachel's steps and become a travel blogger/travel...grammer (???)
Oh, and Lorelai does end up with the most gorgeous pictures and a skyrocketing business.

kind of sad Madeline and Louise didn’t show up in the revival, what do you think they’d be up to now?
I was super upset when they had people like francie show up but not louise and madeline. like, I understand actors' schedules etc but but!
madeline is probably 2 marriages in, with consequent divorces and a trust fund+settlement money to live off comfortably. likely with a new boyfriend around, already. I don't really see her as mother material so, no kids. or, like, she could be a detached stepmom. maybe one of those women that ends up in pyramid schemes and whatnot, selling bowls or makeup or protein shakes. basically, a younger and less pretentious version of paris' mother.
louise, I think she's probably gone through her fair share of lovers, too, but she managed to completely enchant a kind and nice man which she then married for good. one and done, for her. maybe a little girl, when she's in her early thirties, to spoil and show off. I think she'd have a bit of a career of her own -nothing serious but like, running a small boutique or sth that her husband helped her build- because hunter (the husband) works in finance hence long hours at the office and also work trips and such. he's devoted, however, and so is she.
they stayed close friends all throughout their twenties but, then, louise moved to nyc while madeline left for california or stayed in hartford or sth alike and they, naturally, kinda drifted apart. plus, louise is far busier with her job and child and happy marriage while maddy is still kinda...floundering; trying to find a balance and sth to give her life meaning. also, madeline is still quite too much of an party-girl which doesn't fit well, any longer, in lou's life.
I know this may sound ooc because lou seems like the more 'carpe diem' of the two but I really do believe that maddy would be far more likely to just wander wherever the wind takes her. also, madeline gives me the vibe of someone who'd be a happy trophy wife with commitment issues while louise has plans to be successful and happy in a stable life.
Tumblr media
[there totally also is a universe in which they date throughout their early twenties, get married in their thirties (super fancy and over the top party) and live happily together, in san francisco, where louise runs a boutique and madeline teaches yoga]

mrs&mrs belleville headcanon ahead
_________
"my dearest Martha," Gigi says, barely keeping tears at bay, "when we were four and i had just moved to town, you declared we would be friends forever and share our lives. then, you kissed my nose and offered half of your sandwich."
chuckling, Martha stands up to peck her wife's cheek, an arm easily sneaking around her waist. "what can i say- i've always been a charmer with great taste."
shaking her head in amusement, Gigi continues, "it took me months of relentless, shameless i may add, flirting, for you to finally realize i had such a crush on you, visible from space."
the whole room bursts into laughter, at that, because, apparently, Martha truly had been the only one to not notice, in the whole freaking town.
"you'll never let me live that one down, will you?"
"not for a second," the blonde smirks, affectionately. "and you better brace yourself, woman, because i've officially got a lifetime with you, now," she adds, holding up her left hand to, once again, admire the elegant band adorning her ring finger.
now in tears, Martha simply whispers, "lucky me."
this is the caption I couldn't use for the martha/gigi board because nobody would ever reblog such a long post lol

jess and finn?? anon, you've opened my eyes. okay hear me out: finn is basically like the one-night stand who just! wont! go! away! jess runs into his flirty ass everywhere, takes him home one day, and then finn just.... doesn't leave the next day. and the next. and the next. and it is so bizarre to jess who's just wondering if this is his life while simultaneously wondering if australian accents were always that attractive. boom!
anon refers to this one ask (bi!jess/finn)
like, let's assume that rory and jess broke up as per canon but they eventually reconnect and become friends without any lingering feelings on any side. they text, sometimes, and hang out, every so often. they still have plenty in common but they're just very much better off as friends.
one afternoon, jess is visiting rory at yale because of some literary event or the other and they're just eating thai food on the couch with janet and janet's girlfriend (paris??) and, out of the blue, there's this incessant knocking on the door.
turns out, logan, colin and finn really have a knack for the dramatics.
once jess leaves, finn bugs rory to no end till he gets his name, number, and possible dateability. separately, jess will inquire just as much.
it becomes a thing, then, that jess will stop by new haven more often than necessary until finn really does flirts his way into jess' bed. or, well, eagerly drags jess into his own apartment.
monthly one-night stands turn weekly and one day jess is like "wait, is that my tshirt?" and finn just shrugs, offering that dopey charming grin of his. it looks far better on him, anyways.
somehow, naturally, without them even noticing, jess has carved a space for himself in finn's flat, life, and heart. finn has emptied one whole drawer months ago, there's now two toothbrushes on the sink and a brand new pine scented body wash in the shower (for the record, finn is an argan oil kinda guy). and let's not mention all the forking books finn keeps finding all over the flat -none of which is his.
so, yeah, finn had taken jess home for a single night of mindless fun and ended up committed. and happy. jess will never ever regret saying yes to coffee, that one morning after.

Could you please write something some soft Rory. Looking for hugs?
rory had never been a particularly touchy girl. like, growing up with a very affectionate mother, in a somewhat smothering little town, had made her accustomed to handle cheeks pinching, pats on the back, bear hugging and so on which doesn't automatically means she particularly ever enjoyed any of that, though.
you see, she's a bit of an awkward and shy girl, despite her best efforts to appear open and cheerful. she succeeds, for the most part.
lorelai has always been granted a free affection pass, however; and so has lane.
even dean, and then jess-- not even with them, had rory allowed herself to fully give in to pda or intimacy, aside from some awkward hand holding and light making out.
then, came paris.
_________
"Rory?" A loud voice enquires, from the living room. "Rory? Are you home?"
Much quieter, an "in here" comes, from the bedroom's ajar door.
Rory's sprawled in the middle of the bed, messy hair and her favorite, comfiest loungewear on.
"Why are you still in bed? Weren't you supposed to be in class this afternoon?"
"I-" the brunette sniffles, shifting slightly to sit upright. "I just needed a moment. A moment to breathe, to refocus."
"Has anything happened? Is lorelai okay?"
Heart swelling with so much, rory cannot restrain herself from reaching out to grasp paris' fingers. "Everyone is alright, baby. I didn't mean to worry you," she adds, leaning to peck the blonde's cheek. "And nothing specific has occurred, really. I'm just feeling extremely overwhelmed, today."
They've known each other for many years, now, and dated for the most part of it. Paris and Rory; Rory and Paris.
And paris knows that sometimes her girlfriend simply needs some support and reassurance; just a warm set of arms, understanding eyes and the exact right words -that paris only, apparently, is always always able to provide.
Taking off her shoes and trousers, paris approaches the bed. "Scoot over," she says, gently.
"Don't you have a study group to get to?"
Shaking her head before softly pressing her lips to rory's, "nothing that cannot be dealt with at a later time. right now, though, there's movies to be watched and poptarts to be eaten, and a girlfriend to cuddle with."
And paris, who is probably even more intimancy-wary than rory is, has very early on learnt that rory gilmore will forever be the one exception to all of her rules. Namely-- spontaneous embracing, gentle (more often passionate) kissing, frequent little touches just because, and very much desired lovemaking.
"Yes please." Rory replies, scooting even closer, pretty much ending up in the blonde's lap. "I think i need a hug."
Chuckling, paris tightens her hold and places a kiss on rory's temple. "And a hug you shall receive."
[not sure this is what you were expecting, anon, but it's what i came up with during a quiet moment at work. and i did make it a gellmore snippet because-- idk it's what came to my mind. hope you enjoyed it]
