I STARTED WOLF359 SEASON 2 AND FOUND SOMEONE I HATE MORE THAN HILBERT! (Or: my reaction to episodes 14-20 of WOLF359).

Gonna keep my intro for this one short and just dive right into it.

Episode 14: The Kambaya Approach

Um… keyboard clicks and music?? WHO IS THIS? Goddard Futuristics? Who is David? Who is Saul? Rachel? WHY ARE YOU THREATENING TO THROW RACHEL OFF A BUILDING?

Ah a telephone! Could it be our crew?

Oh so THIS is Cutter. Who seems to be Hilbert’s boss. Don’t like him. Oh no did Hilbert find a way to contact him?

Oh now THERE is the telephone sound I heard at the end of last episode.

Renee? Oh so that’s her name. It’s a nice name. But I would prefer you called her “Commander Mincowski” Cutter. Give her respect, and stop acting so chipper. It’s easy to be that confident when you’re not the one in space.

And what kind of boss makes his employees work on Christmas or the day after?

Oh cool Hilbert’s name is Alexander? Wow, so cool, ✨I don’t care✨.

Cutter really seems to love the supervillain monologue. Yeah Doug, good call don’t tell them about the signal…

OH HE’S TRYING TO TEAR THEM APART. SHUT IT CUTTER. WHATEVER SECRETS MINCOWSKI AND HERA HAVE ARE NOTHING ON YOUR TOMFOOLERY.

Incredible. I did not think it was possible for me to hate someone as much as Hilbert so quickly, but he did it! Less than six minutes into season 2, and by golly Mr. Cutter did it! Round of applause for him ladies and gentlemen, truly despicable, I hope he gets his karma.

A complete waste of space. Horrible loser man.

Why do I not believe they’re actually on hold? Mincowski, please listen to him. But Doug get to the point: HILBERT WAS TRYING TO CONTACT CUTTER. HE LITERALLY SAID THAT.

Just pretend like Hilbert went insane.

YES! Taking my advice, smart play, smart play, act like you know nothing, tell them info they’d already know or could easily deduce anyway.

…Cutter. Stop calling her Renee! And stop being like this! What in the supervillain nonsense?

Oh money, of course it’s about money. And the backhanded compliments. OF COURSE DOUG IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB HE’S THE ONLY OTHER MAN ABOARD.

Cutter man, your laugh… I picture him in a high school uniform kicking his feet in the air on his bed as he giggles to himself like an evil little schoolboy. “Hee hee hee I’m killing people in space 🤩” … shut up Cutter.

Okay. So. I know I wanted Hilbert to die earlier. But um… I think I might want Cutter to die more. Yeah… I’d be careful with what you transmit to Cutter. VERY careful.

Oh he knows. Doug he knows. You’re screwed. You’re… you’re completely done for.

Aw, Renee has a cute laugh. She’s nice. At least she and Doug are getting along.

But… will it be easy to get Hera back online? It’d better be. They better save her.

“No I’m not.” GOOD FOR YOU RENEE! Get something out of Hilbert. And yeah, watch the programming. Make sure if you DO get her back online that Hilbert can’t influence her.

Cutter’s instructions are BS… or wait! Is that Hera? Please be Hera.

Oh it’s the voices! It sounds like the echo in an indoor swimming pool.

“I don’t know who you are. I know you have no reason to believe anything that I’m about to say, and I know there’s nothing I can do to prove to you that this isn’t some kind of trick. But please believe me for your own sake”.

Solid start.

CAPTAIN ISABEL LOVELACE! I KNEW IT! Wait is it Lovelace or loveless??? Guess I’ll find out.

Oh the Hephaestus… but… WAIT. Are they in a time vortex? Are they getting signals from the past? Because Lovelace’s mission is over, her lab is sealed off. 955 days ago, okay, so longer than their mission, and a bigger crew too, 5 people plus Lovelace. And yeah, we got the lying thing down. and… yeah the “never make it back to earth” was also quite clear and VERY unethical. They played Hilbert like a fiddle. For a smart man, he’s far too trusting. Cutter was probably planning to shoot him the second he landed.

Communications and science officer got sick? Uh… sick from what? The astrophysicist just VANISHED? Okay… that doesn’t happen. It’s space! Where exactly could he go?

One thing is clear. These aren’t missions. They’re trials. The crew are lab rats. Though I must say, this is a very poorly designed experiment. What on earth are they even testing?

Oh right, Dr. Selburg. Wait. No. The spiders!

…but why would they be experimenting with that? If my crew was dead, and I found out I was sent to die, and I was in that situation, my first thought would not be “bummer. Oh well. Guess it’s time to make some poison spiders grow 🥰”. I honestly don’t know WHAT I’d do in that situation, but I can promise you, it wouldn’t be that.

And who is “THEY”? Command? And what something else??? THE EMPTY MAN?

Are… are the crews connected across time and space? Are they each other’s empty man? No, that wouldn’t match the messages’ warnings. Would be cool though.

“You’re not the first. We were here. Get out before it’s too late for you too.”

Poor Lovelace. And we never do find out what happens. Also Hilbert talked about a lot of other missions, implying that there were more AND that he was on them and somehow made it out alive.

Was he the astrophysicist that vanished?

Also the empty man messages: “There’s no way out…but there is a way in.” In where? Where are they supposed to go if they can’t get out?

Yikes. I guess that’s it then.

Episode 15: What’s Up Doc?

I like the title. Let’s see how the dear old doctor is doing. Perhaps he’ll be more cooperative when he finds out that his boss ordered his demise. But I doubt it.

Ah. Doug’s logs. Might want to be careful with what you say. Day 583.

Red menace’s damage to our autopilot 😂 Good to see Doug has his sense of humor. I think he’s gonna need it.

51 systems with glitches? You need Hera.

He’s playing chess? Well, looks like Doug and I have procrastination in common.

I’d hate playing any game with Hilbert. Chess or otherwise.

Huh. They don’t even have a record of Isabel Lovelace in the air force. Unless… wait crazy theory time: if time warping is a part of this, maybe Isabel is from a FUTURE crew of the Hephaestus not the past. It’s a possibility.

Also side note, but anytime I share literally any of my theories from this show, I get tons of comments that say things like “grinning like the Cheshire Cat right now”. Which is funny, because I do that when I read comments on my fanfics, and that grin usually means one thing: you found the pieces. You have all the pieces. But you won’t put them together and you won’t realize what they mean until it’s too late. I hope that’s not the case here. And if you’re Sophie please disregard this. And to the other TMBS mutuals, if you’re still reading my stuff, please disregard this.

Mincowski knows about Lovelace! Oh she doesn’t remember hearing the name in the lab. Wait… can they not remember the lab?

Yeah, we might want to isolate Hilbert a bit more. Maybe a few more days.

Man made retrovirus? Reverse cellular damage? That’s huge. Theoretically… it could reverse aging… and death.

Decima is “unmanageable”?? “Active environment??” HIS BLOOD STREAM?

That is VERY illegal. You used your colleague as incubator for your pet virus? And no. No apples for you doctor. You don’t deserve apples. Apples are for people who don't do unethical science on their friends!

Episode 16: Painfully Ever After

This one is not going to be as detailed because I'm also half doing work, but I have no self control and need to know more.

...My goodness I really AM like Eiffel. I think it's the ADHD. Let's blame that.

Also..."navigation off by a few clicks...probably not important".

Um...not critical maybe, but why is navigation off? Don't think you can just slip little details like that in there and not expect me to notice. Don't think you can use my own schemes against me.

Remember when Mincowski nearly shot Hilbert over ice cream? Those were the days...

And yeah. No painfully ever after. We still have several seasons left. We need Hera!

I agree about the math Eiffel. I got a test coming up. I should be studying, but this is clearly more important.

"Tell me you're not still obsessing over your experimental exposure, as long as I maintain it's dormancy, you have nothing to worry about." Oh great. I can't tell you how many times I've read or heard in fiction that as long as X doesn't happen, then Y won't happen, and X is such a low probability it probably isn't even worth worrying about.

Sure, what could possibly go wrong? It's just a teeny tiny itty bitty baby killer virus 🦠🥺 all it wants to do is swim around in Doug's blood stream and not make any trouble I'm sure.

Improve the lives of millions? Uh, Hilbert. What exactly is your definition of improvement?

Yeah...how was command aware of alien life? What made them want to look for that?

"Survival depends on never ever keeping information from Mr. Cutter"

And what does Mr. Cutter want with aliens? Probably to kill them, that seems to be a hobby of his. I guess he got bored of killing members of his own species and animals from his own planet so he decided to set his sights farther afield.

CHANGES IN PROGRAM? But...what about Hera? The Hera that's our friend? ...don't like that noise... REALLY don't like that noise.

I like the title. Does this mean the music is coming back?

"It's like someone moved everything off just a tiny bit...so small that you don't even notice anything's off until you try to find something, and then you can't find anything".

Why do I think that's not just a metaphor for Hera's brain?

Star charts? Why do I think those might not be harmless?

Rock climbing and trail hiking are good hobbies. And... yeah a bit odd she has a husband she hasn't seen in over a year and hasn't told any of them about.

...uh Hera? Why were you thinking about it at all? Did Cutter do something to you? Are you trying to kill them and like...dragging your...hypothetical feet about it?

...hopefully the spiders are dead...

And hopefully this is where they FINALLY remember who Lovelace is.

Day 97, early in the mission then. So who is the crew? Dr. Selburg. Dr. Who and Who? Officer Fischer? Okay so Lambert is communications? Reya? Oh so that's their AI. But it looks like she just beeps.

Day 383. Wait WHOSE PROJECTIONS WERE OFF? (Hilbert?)

Episode 19: Let's Kill Hilbert

And...we're back! Now it's time to say goodbye to our crazy science friend. Adios Hilbert you will not be missed! 👋 First we toss you out the airlock, and then it's back to earth to finish off Mr. Cutter and company!

Does Hilbert know enough to justify keeping him on board? The real question is: will he share enough?

And listen to Hera. She might have things she's trying to tell you as best she can.

Hera...oh Hera has PTSD. Oh dear Hera.

Um... is she trying to kill them? In comedically obvious ways so that they notice? No wonder she needs Hilbert dead, what if he gave her bad code again? Or maybe she’s just experiencing trauma.

Mincowski! No! She's trying to save you! Please just throw Hilbert out the airlock, I listened to Dixie Chicks for this! I hyped myself up!

Did Hera just say "I'm dead?"

Hera. Hera are you trying to kill Doug? Doug, I trust Hera too, but I do not trust Hilbert! Okay...looks like we're good...

Never mind.

Eiffel. What is happening? Are you on laughing gas? Are you being drugged? Oh dear. Hera what did you do?

Wait. Why is HE losing air? Hera...were you trying to kill Hilbert?

Do machines dream electric sheep? Was that Hilbert? What happened to Hilbert? OH NO.

"You're going to unplug me anyway at least I can do this for the two of you" oh Hera 🥺

Doug knows Hera's there. Aw, he's making her feel better. And she's back! 🥰

Wait. What about Hilbert? What about interrogating him about being the other doctor guy? What about killing him? Man, what a bummer.

Oh well. we can always hope. Maybe next time he can finally die. Or at least give us some information.

Episode 20: The Paranoia Game

I really should not be listening to more, but I have an exam tomorrow, and nothing gets me motivated like good old procrastination. Besides, it's not like I had much of a chance on that thing anyway. Oh, I mean, um: Don't listen to me kids, studying is important. But you'll understand if you get to certain level of school at a certain age. You discover that some things that you thought were bad and confusing are actually much more bad and confusing than you could have ever imagined.

Anyway, let's get into it.

Oh good some info on Hilbert's past missions. Hilbert it is ABSOLUTELY relevant. You were experimenting on humans without their consent!

Lovelace was incinerated? Hilbert, for your sake, you better hope that's not true.

Who is listening to this?

Oh dear Hilbert is out of his cage. And YES the handcuffs are necessary. Hilbert has some nerve asking these questions.

"Why am I in cuffs. Seriously all I did was try to kill you. So dramatic🙄"

Irregularity in backup life support? What was that?

Screwdriver is missing. Huh. I wonder where it could have gone...check his pockets.

But then there is the empty man...and Blessie...

Shut up Hilbert. You had someone else help you get the screwdriver. The invisible empty man or someone else. Your promises mean NOTHING Hilbert.

Oh you know who took it do you Hilbert? BLAMING THE ROBOT? She has a NAME Hilbert. And if she wanted you dead, she could do that in much worse ways than stealing the screw driver.

IT KIND OF IS HILBERT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO GET ON YOUR HIGH "I WOULD NEVER STEAL A SCREW DRIVER HORSE" YOU TRIED TO MURDER EVERYONE.

And do you REALLY think even IF Hera did this, that her whole plan is gonna go like this: "Well we were cool with Hilbert being on board earlier, but GASP! a stolen screwdriver? I can deal with multiple counts of attempted murder and unethical experimentation, but this is simply a bridge too far. TO THE AIRLOCK!"

Yeah. And also. How does she steal the screw driver?

Oh goodness. She is the brains you are...not brains.😂

Hilbert. YOU are the one involved in a conspiracy. You're seeing plots where there aren't any. I guess the old saying is true. The wicked run from no one.

Oh poor commander. I hope they didn't...

Good heavens. Have you all forgotten about Blessie? Have you all forgotten about the empty man?

I love that these are the same voice actor. It makes in 20x funnier too.

The perfect crime? Do you know how crazy you sound?

Poor Mincowski. She needs to go back home and be with her husband. After all this she deserves it.

Hilbert. It involves Large powerful magnet. 😂😂🧲

Ah yes. Those sounds. PLEASE question them.

What if we are not the only ones here? FINALLY. Hilbert, I don't like you but at least we're getting to...wait Hera I thought you did detect something moving about earlier.

But uh...why would it want a screw driver? EXACTLY! It is a bad thing! Why has no one been asking more questions about this?

You Reap What You Sow - Chapter 8

Genshin Impact SAGAU x Iron Harvest 1920+

Late Night Prototyping

Despite Columbina's lullabies lulling you to sleep, you still somehow managed to wake up in the middle of the night.

Seeing that you were out of bed and not willing to go to sleep again, perhaps it would be a good time to try and find a place to take a shower or bath. You got out of bed, waking your rifthound buddy in the process. The Slugas also powered up upon hearing the rifthound whelp's barks. They saw you and you headpat the eight small entities. Thankfully, your room's walls were soundproof. Otherwise, people near you might have been woken up by now. Oh wait- your room is generally away from other people so it wouldn't have mattered that much.

You also noticed some clothing left for you. Ice blue robes with designs of the seven elements on them.

You entered the ocean-blue door from last night. It looked to be a hot tub, steam still floating out of it. Okay, you didn't expect this to be in Snezhnaya. You took off your clothing and entered the tub of hot water, also noticing a bar of soap to your left.

As soon as you put your foot in though- it was pretty hot. "Whoo! Okay, that's pretty hot!" As soon as you said those words, though, you noticed that some of the steam dissipated and less of it was flowing out now. Perplexed at this, you put your foot back into the hot tub. Now, it was at a temperature just right for you.

You then remembered something from the other books you read the last night. Teyvat always listens to the Divine One and their requests. Ah, now you get it.

You exited the room and came back with your robes. Taking in a more detailed view of the internals of the tub, there was a drain alongside sections where you could seat yourself.

After a good half-hour in that tub, you drained the water and put on your robes, then your coat that William Mason brought you. You slung your Polanian rifle which you left in the corner before bed over your shoulders. Then you had the idea to commit some tomfoolery and spoil the tour of Zapolyarny Palace early.

As you quietly exited your room bringing your eight friends along, you walked down the icy blue hallways of the place, only being lit up by the candle chandeliers held from the ceiling.

You tiptoed as quietly as you could. Yet you still were spotted by someone.

"Your grace, what are you doing up at this hour?" you heard someone whisper-shout. You turned around and saw Sandrone, her facial expression a bit surprised at your presence.

"I couldn't go to sleep and I decided to tour the palace all by myself." You said, a cheeky smile plastered on your face. "Why are you up, Sandrone?"

"I was just about to head to bed." She whispered. "Ah, okay then, I'll let you head to bed." You were about to walk off until she said something. "Wait, your grace. Since both of us are up... perhaps we can have some time to ourselves?" Sandrone walked up to you and smiled, putting her right hand to her heart. "You don't have to- of course, just a suggestion."

"Sure," you replied. "why not, I don't think I'm gonna go to bed anyways." You added, and Sandrone now bore an incredibly happy smile. You could feel her feelings get all giddy inside. "Then let's go!" She whisper-shouted, beckoning you to follow her.

Sandrone's workshop had a lot of metal parts strewn all over the place. A large table and work area were also present, the work area holding a sort of metal ball cockpit of sorts. You looked to your left to find a giant note board of sorts. On it were images depicting rough sketches of Lech Kos' mech. Upon comparing those images to the bits and parts, you deduced that she was trying to recreate Lech's mech from scratch. Your eight little buddies simply just sat on some soft chairs and rested there.

"Excuse me for all the metal all over the area, your grace. I was trying to recreate that gorilla-like machine owned by the one 'Lech Kos' you mentioned yesterday." She said, scratching the back of her head.

"It's fine," you said. "And I know quite a few other machines as well." You practically knew every single mech in Iron Harvest, from the PZM-9 Straznik to the SKS 300 Kaiser. "Maybe I can draw some of them for you?" You asked Sandrone, who softly nodded.

"That would be nice, your grace." She said. You took a random pencil and sheets of paper and sat down on one of the chairs, moving a small table to your area. Then you started to draw some machines, Sandrone walking off to continue to try and recreate Lech's mech.

Firstly, you'd draw a mech that you can actually draw pretty well despite its complicated looks: The Polanian PZM-13 Mocny. It's an artillery mech capable of firing without having to be deployed. It walks around on four legs, the two frontal ones capable of reconfiguring into spikes during its artillery mode for stabilization. The drawbacks of the mech were that it was slow and had terrible durability. It would never survive prolonged frontline combat.

Its cockpit is on the right side of the mech alongside a machine gun turret, and the artillery gun is on the left. You drew the Mocny from its right-side view, grasping the detail of the weird-moving legs pretty well. You also added a human for comparison.

When you were finished, you handed the design to Sandrone.

"What a fascinating machine here. A long-distance surgical striker, it seems." She initially said, already taking a liking to the Mocny. "It can defend itself too- even better. The only thing I would say is to perhaps armor those legs up a bit more, they're quite exposed to the elements in Snezhnaya." She then put the drawing of the Mocny on the wall, adding a note herself: Review design later; lots of potentials.

You then got to work on drawing another mech: The M-19 Knox, also from its right-side view (it's a symmetrical design though). This Usonian mech is based on the black widow spider and walks on a slim chassis using four small legs. It carries a large number of armaments on it as well. The midsection was entirely dedicated to dual rocket pods and twin machine guns, while the top section held four medium cannons, a singular heavy cannon, and two side light cannons.

You were a bit skeptical of this design. Not only is it going to lack ammunition for the weaponry on board, but it's also possibly prone to tipping over due to the concerning chassis the weapons are mounted on. Worst of all, it also isn't the most durable mech as well, although it's certainly more durable than the Mocny. Oh, it's also quite tall for a mech, and it needs a crew of three (one person drives in the chassis, another person works the rocket section in the middle, and the last person works the entire top section).

Sandrone seemed to evoke your thoughts on this. "Whoever designed this is certainly a gun fanatic; if only they managed to make a better chassis for this machine. And judging from the durability, this seems like a more fire-supportive machine compared to a frontline combat walker."

Sandrone put your Knox drawing next to the Mocny's. She wrote the note Notable glaring flaws; if fixed, the machine might be incredibly powerful. Now you were going to draw a mech that might piss her off: the M-8 Attucks, another Usonian creation.

The M-8 Attucks literally defies all realism and logic. Firstly, it's lower than an entire human with an extremely cramped and unviable cockpit/control room. Secondly, it has no space for an engine or ammo compartment whatsoever because all it carries is three giant cannons. The Attucks also has an inadequate range for an artillery unit, and as such is practically relegated to the niche role of surprise attacks.

Despite its flaws, however, the Attucks is a fairly simple design to draw. From the right-side view, all one will see is a bunch of exhausts. The control room is on the left side and you can't see it from the right. Goes to show how cramped this design would be.

You handed it over to Sandrone and she visibly furrowed her eyebrows. "Not to insult your drawing skills, your grace, because I'm not..." She paused, before raising her tone of voice in a slight bit of yelling. "But who had the right mind to create something like this?! This design is not only impossible unless you allowed it to defy realism, but it's also inhumane! I cannot imagine those who have to drive this thing... their bodies must feel so terrible..."

Sandrone put the design next to the Knox and once again wrote a note: Make design better for those who have to pilot this abomination!

You drew up more designs as she kept trying to tinker with her own iteration of Lech Kos' mech. She was particularly impressed with the Sd. KS 49 Grimbart, the MWF 28 Stiefmutter, and the SKS 300 Kaiser. The Grimbart had a multi-barrel rotary machine gun, which is cutting-edge, even for Fatui technology. The Stiefmutter could produce its own weapons, similarly to that of a Cicin Mage. Except now, it's larger. And more explosive. And lastly, the Kaiser was an intimidating war machine in itself. Just one would send chills up anyone's spine in Teyvat.

Throughout the hours and time she spent tinkering with her machinery, she grew more tired. By the time you showed her the PZM-9 Straznik, she simply said: "It's fine. Legs need some work though" in a very tired tone.

Eventually, Sandrone ended up falling asleep over your right shoulder while you were sitting on her couch without even noticing. A second later, when she realized what she had done, she profusely tried apologizing to you.

"Your grace, I am so sorry for what I tried-" You just put her over your shoulder again, preventing her from falling over using your left arm. A silent implication that you practically gave her the 'go-ahead' to do this. She simply leaned into your touch, smiling as she snored softly. You did this because it felt nice, to be in a position like this after being having yourself get chased all over the world.

"Your grace-" An Electro Cicin Mage said as she opened the door to Sandrone's workshop, stopping herself when she noticed you.

"...I'll leave you two be for now." She closed the door as you just stared at Sandrone's sleeping body.

Savanaclaw + Autistic!MC

The actual content of this is directly copied and pasted from the Wattpad post; the author’s note and content warnings are paraphrased but still keep the general message.

A/N: This involves some stuff like having an autistic sibling, and some other things that weren’t mentioned in the first part.

Content Warnings: Menstruation, injury that happens in the canonical story.

Leona Kingscholar (this dude’s so hard to write ;-;)

The first time he met her was when she stepped on his tail. He was surprised at how much she apologised and insisting on checking his tail for any bruises or broken bones. Who does this herbivore think she is? He often thinks to himself, denying his appreciation of her concern because of his pride.

Unlike the women of the Afterglow Savanna, Leona noticed that MC was rather timid in comparison. Is this normal for herbivores? He felt like something was wrong, but it was simply an afterthought that nagged at him sometimes at night.

Sometimes, after taking a nap, he occasionally sees her nearby minding her own business. When asked, she replied that she found his silence calming. He found this strange but okay. Eventually, sometimes he’d notice a strange change in scent on her end but was too prideful to bring it up.

Before the Magift tournament, he noticed how she was somewhat irritated in general. When he asked her about it, she told him about her brother who often wouldn’t shut up about sports if given the chance. “I’m not even a sporty person,” she grumbled, “please don’t take it personally. I just can’t stand my brother since he’s super loud and an ass.” Well, Leona can’t relate to her struggle exactly but they both mutually hate their older brothers, that’s adequate enough for him.

During his overblot, MC again shows no fear (y’all sense the pattern here). This time it’s his tail and ears that she wants to pet. Ruggie and Jack panic, but it’s simply deja vu for Heartslabyul.

After getting knocked out by Grim during the exhibition match, Jack noticed the changed smell, but accompanied by the smell of blood and told the nurses along with Leona and Ruggie. After being brought to the infirmary, the nurses deduced that she started her period. He grumbled that she should’ve told them and proceeded to prepare for the official game to begin.

When Cheka came to visit them, his loudness scared MC half to death so Leona had to tell Cheka to stop shouting. Did Leona ever find out MC’s autistic? He found out through Ace. Did he change much, if at all? Definitely not, why does that matter anyways to him?

Ruggie Bucchi (also hard to write as well) He paid for his mischief and tomfoolery with an irritated lassie (this is the most powerful sentence I’ve ever written tbh). He stole Riddle and Cater’s magic pens and proceeded to be chased first by an enraged girl acting on sheer impulse and revenge followed by two other first years and a demon cat.

Okay, now this dude’s pretty laid back so he’s going to be tolerant, but after she chases him to an inch of his life he’s going to be terrified. He’s going to be confused when MC doesn’t get his jokes or her fury at the pranks he pulls at first, but when explained by Deuce that she usually doesn’t understand jokes (he gon get smacked) unless she herself makes them and tells him don’t pull these pranks again (everyone’s traumatized, -1000/10 won’t want to experience again). When Ruggie told her that she’s terrifying, she simply replied with, “You say that but my mom’s scarier.”

Poor dude’s gonna think her mom’s this super tall buff woman that can knock someone out with little to no effort but he’s thinking completely wrong. When he asks her how she is terrifying she replies with, “Well...mom fought the school board where I’m from because my brother was bullied heavily in middle school. He’s so traumatized that he won’t go near the campus. I hated that school anyways, too loud for my liking.”

He likely doesn’t realise the hormonal changes until Leona mentions it. “I thought she was quite docile,” he says, “maybe she’s just having an off day.” Ruggie usually doesn’t take anything seriously, but this was getting into weird territory and can’t take it lightly.

When Leona overblotted, Ruggie and Jack were terrified at the fact that she seemingly didn’t register that, y’know, this is a dangerous situation and you really shouldn’t be petting his ears. “She did something similar when Riddle overblotted,” Deuce tells them, “it’s just deja vu for us.” And then she kicked him in the balls and scurried off...nobody expected that.

After the fight, Ruggie and Jack noticed that she was slightly fatigued (they didn’t smell the blood yet). When Crowley told her to sit on the sidelines she just shrugged, telling him that she’s been getting some cramps anyways and is likely in no shape to play anyways.

Grim chucks disc at MC, Jack notices the smell of blood, brings her to infirmary and finds out she started her period right after the overblot fight, yadda yadda (it’s 5 AM and I only got three hours of sleep please bear with me).

Eventually, he finds out after asking Deuce that she’s autistic. Nothing really changes, he just makes sure to watch his mouth and try not to pull pranks on her (he’s permanently traumatized y’all).

Jack Howl (he’s a very good boy...a tsundere one but still) He first met MC when she and the Heartslabyul boys (excluding Trey because…y’know) were scoping out who was most likely to be the next victim of the strange injuries. She insisted on doing it herself (bad idea when your period starts soon and there’s a bunch of humanoid students who can smell the pheromones).

She ended up getting hit on by some of the upperclassmen, she didn’t say she was uncomfortable due to self advocacy issues. Luckily Jack is a very good boy with a sense of justice so he drove them off and made sure she was okay.

After thanking him and explaining what was happening, he told MC that he didn’t need any protection. He muttered that he likely wouldn’t be targeted under his breath under the assumption it was too quiet for her to hear. He was oh so wrong.

She asked if she heard him correctly, that he would likely not be targeted. He realised at this point that he shouldn’t have underestimated her. He gave in and whispered into her ear that he had an idea of who was behind it, but couldn’t tell her yet. He wasn’t expecting to get ear scritches and a reminder to be safe just in case. Did he like it? He didn’t like to admit it, but he did. Did he expect it? Definitely not.

When he turned into his beast form before Leona overblotted, he didn’t realise that MC’s pupils widened. She wanted to pet him and squish his toe beans, okay? He was too angry at Leona to notice though.

When Leona did overblot, he panicked when she casually approached him and started petting his ears. He was trying his best not to lunge forward to grab her and take her somewhere far away, but she kicked Leona in the groin before scurrying off far enough to not be attacked. After the fight, he noticed that she smelled like she was bleeding but didn’t bring it up.

Skipping to the exhibition match after Grim knocked her unconscious with the disc, Jack rushed to her side to check for any injuries. Luckily she didn’t get too severe of brain damage, but the smell of blood and pheromones was overly strong, especially near her pelvis. He told this to the nurses before they brought her to the infirmary, and also told this to Leona and Ruggie.

After being told by Ace and Deuce that MC’s autistic, he’s gonna try his best to research it (dude’s intelligent, I admire that). He’s also going to research menstruation so he’ll be better prepared the next time it happens.

As the traditional fox of science and machinery, one might expect the kit to deduce any and all spectral tomfoolery as the mind’s way of explaining something it didn’t have all of the pieces to make heads or tails of in the moment. A lapse in the senses due to something like dehydration, heightened fear, or lack of sleep. And if you asked a younger him, that’s exactly the sorts of answers you would receive.

Now? It was a tried and true fact that ghosts existed, he had seen them with his own eyes. Fought against them, even! ...Well, sort of. He didn’t have a story like Knuckles’s where he punched a ghost so hard it exploded into cloud of vapors and ectoplasm after catching it repeatedly in sunlight, but spirits had certainly, at the very least, been defended against during some of his adventures.

“Way back when I was younger, there was this sandy desert pyramid that me and my brother Sonic had to trek through. Real ancient place, tons of old art depictions lining the walls wherever you went. But there wasn’t any light in there except for these torches on the wall that burned out after so long, and whenever it got dark, these little spirits would appear. At first they’d start off cute, had the classic ‘kid in a white bedsheet’ look to’em...

But the darker those torches got, the more they’d start to morph. Grow in size, sprout horns underneath their capes, black eyes that would make chunks of coal blush. They were black holes more like it, and yet their sights still stuck out and traced you in the pitch-black darkness the tomb could get to if you didn’t make it to a light switch fast enough. They were brazen in the dark, they’d start to chase you down when the torches all went out, and...”

A shiver, a visible shiver as the fox’s form shook out the obvious fear it held even now, teeth chattering and breath shuddering as a shaken exhale was loosened. Was it getting cold in here? Or was it just him? “I dunno how you do it, dealing with stuff like that and so much worse so regularly. I’d rather take on an entire horde of Heavy Egg Hammers all by myself than dance with the supernatural.”

a World Ain’t Ready coda

so i’ve been writing short fics in exchange for donations to black lives matter or a related cause (more info here), and @anditsnotoveryet requested something about the next ABC meeting after prom in World Ain’t Ready. i thought some folks might be curious so i figured i’d post it here:

Right before the first ABC meeting after Prom, Grantaire has a minor brain cyclone, a freakout, whatever. He’s done some tentative Googling since he talked to Mr. Myriel, just in case, y’know, just on the off chance that the way his brain is broken isn’t some terrible unnameable rot from within but instead a real and diagnosable condition experienced by millions of people, with real and workable treatments also experienced by millions of people, and the shitty stunts his mind can pull on him does, well, kinda sound like an anxiety thing.

But it’s easier to believe that at his computer in the dark, checking out sites in between looking up pictures of kittens and puppies for stress relief, the whole time messaging with Enjolras.

It’s a little harder to keep things together alone in Ms. Hucheloup’s classroom as he waits for the other kids to trickle in.

The trouble is this: he and Enjolras are so obvious now.

Like, way more obvious than before when they were trying to look obvious, and every gesture of affection was a scripted and choreographed little piece of theater. Grantaire knows (because Eponine won’t shut up about it, any time the three of them hang out) that he and Enjolras have kind of a smiling problem whenever they look at each other. They hold hands without thinking about it. Even now, in the middle of his brain cyclone-slash-mini anxiety spell, Grantaire’s main cheer-up weapon for trying to ease his way out is remembering this stupid pun Enjolras made about going to the art museum.

He was so proud of it, is the thing. Enjolras is a nerd, and Grantaire likes him so much, and when the rest of the ABC gets here, they’re going to take one look at Grantaire’s helpless beaming face and immediately know that something is different, and from there, they’ll be able to deduce that everything between Enjolras and Grantaire before now was a lie, and then, Jesus, then the shit will hit the fan so hard that the fan will never work again, metaphorically speaking, and then--

“Hey, weirdo,” says Jehan at the door. He’s wearing a T-shirt covered in super heroes, except that for each of the guys (and they’re all guys, notes a voice in Grantaire’s head that sounds weirdly like Musichetta’s), Jehan has sewed a little ribbon bow to their head.

“Hey,” says Grantaire. “Nice shirt.”

“You okay?” Jehan asks, stepping farther into the room and eyeing the chaos where Grantaire had tried to channel his nerves into wrangling the desks back into a circle. He has not been, like, super successful yet.

“Yeah,” says Grantaire. Then, “No. I just, like, I dunno, what if, uh--”

Somehow, Jehan manages to run the translation. “It’ll be fine,” he says.

Grantaire laughs and it sounds, maybe, possibly, a tad unhinged. “We’re so ridiculous together,” he mutters. “People will--”

“Listen,” says Jehan, “kiddo,” which should be illegal for a sophomore to say to a junior but Grantaire barely cares, “You were ridiculous before.”

“It’s different now,” Grantaire insists.

“Nobody’s mind is gonna jump where you think it will jump,” says Jehan firmly. “I mean, shall we count the mental leaps?”

Slowly, the fact seeps back into Grantaire’s head that maybe, just maybe, “You baldly deceived us about pretending to date for over three months purely for reasons of social justice” won’t be top of mind for any of their friends.

“If anything,” says Jehan, cheerfully untangling a chair from the pile, “they’ll just think you two finally got laid.”

Grantaire is still choking on that when the rest of the group starts to filter in.

Enjolras is last through the door. “Hey,” he says. His unguarded face is so beautiful.

‘Oh nooo,’ wails Grantaire’s self-control.

“Hey,” says Grantaire, already feeling lighter. He can feel his mouth pulling into a smile.

Enjolras grins in response. “Hey,” he says again, “why are you smiling?”

“I don’t know, why are you smiling?” Grantaire manages.

“Oh my GOD,” says Molly, “this again?”

Jehan shoots Grantaire a look that says, “See? See?” Even Batman looks triumphant from beneath his giant hairbow.

“Welcome, everyone,” says Combeferre, advancing to the board. “Great to see you all again. We have a lot of work ahead of us, so let’s try to keep the shenanigans to a minimum today.”

“What about tomfoolery?” asks Bahorel from the back.

“Also right out,” Courfeyrac cuts in. “As are funny business, horseplay, and hinjinks.”

“And capers?” Grantaire asks before he can stop himself.

“Capers are fine,” says Enjolras. “In the sense of a heist. Because what we’re heisting today is our rights, from under the nose of an uncaring institution.”

Courfeyrac mimes applause. Grantaire joins him.

The corner of Enjolras’s mouth tilts towards a smile, then he seems to collect himself. “Alright,” he says, full of purpose and direction in a way that used to make Grantaire think of movie characters. The truth is, Enjolras is not some golden apparition removed from the rest of the world. He’s not a movie hero at all, he’s a living teenage boy who yesterday cracked himself up suggesting that a whale’s favorite paint would be acrylic (a-krill-ic, get it?) and in a way, it’s terrifying because if they’re both just people, it means Grantaire has no excuse not to try to change the world with him. In that same way, it’s giddying. “Let’s begin.”
