someone asked me a while about about my ideal persona cast using the P3/P4/P5 casts and i didn't answer because this was back when we just got futaba so i didn't know
now I feel I have a bit more of a handle so
The Protagonist: femmeswap Joker. yes i still want to be able to play a girl so fucking bad and i'm mad the game will not let me. i feel like Joker and FeMC would be tight bc they are both fucking weirdos.
The Best Friend Guy: i am agonizing over yosuke vs junpei but I'm gonna say Junpei because I liked having a bro that much. I like Yosuke but only when he's devastatingly closeted and in love with P4MC. I would be friends with Junpei IRL.
The Uncool Girl: I really like Ann but Yukari was great, she was gay as hell, and she had a very interesting arc. I liked how she gave huge "girl friend who secretly dislikes you and is just being nice" vibes but evolved into an extremely sharp plot catalyst who asked smart questions and was super perceptive.
The Polite Girl With A Family Legacy: Makoto was never in the running here, but Yukiko vs Mitsuru is hard. Mitsuru has nonbinary swagger and a motorcycle, but Yukiko is actually really funny and charming...... I'm gonna say Yukiko by a hair.
The Weird Loveable Dude Who I Personally Wanna Date In Each Game: Yusuke vs Kanji vs Akihiko. god, don't make me pick between Akihiko the Autistic Boxer King and Kanji the literal best character in P4. I refuse to pick. Both win.
Yusuke loses because the game forgot he's a loveable weirdo about 20 hours ago and he's just another voice in cutscenes now and i'm sad about it.
The Navigator: oh my god Fuuka vs Futaba is so fucking hard. I wanted to date Fuuka so bad and she's still the most useful of the actual navigators, she's the only one who just gives you a full scan of the enemies when you ask. but Futaba is a fucking delight and her struggle with agoraphobia and social anxiety isn't played up, it's so on point, yeah I'm gonna go Futaba but Fuuka, I still love you!!!!!
Late-Comer Who Doesn't Get Enough Screentime: i don't want to blow any minds but i think i like Haru the most out of these, I'm really loving her Empress arc. Naoto was super interesting up until they joined the party, then the game got scared to do anything with her. nah.
The Guest Party Member: Shinjiro vs Akechi. SIGHS. it's gotta be Akechi unfortunately.
The Mascot Animal: Teddie, no question. Morgana is a close second but I cried about Teddie. hmmmm but morgana is a cat that lives in your school bag......... NO it's teddie! I can't not reward Sam Reigel for the fucking WORK he did!
The Special Edition Character: Marie. Kasumi has suffered soooooo much from feeling tacked onto the story in an extremely sloppy way. With Marie, that... kind of was perfect given who and what she was, it almost aided in the feeling of her as a superfluous vestigial limb of the game that you opt-into caring about. Also her becoming a weather forecaster was hilarious. Kasumi really really needs some fucking edge.
(also, random complaint, Maruki feels MUCH LESS TACKED ON than Kasumi, so i KNOW they could have done a better job integrating her. whatever.)
Velvet Room Attendant: Margaret. I'm sorry, I'm shallow and she's incredibly hot and that line asking the PC to entangle her in his thread of fate was hot. Also the moment she kisses the PC is great. Sorry Liz.
Bad Vibes Bad Guy: Ryoji vs Adachi vs Akechi. This is impossible because all three of them are atrocious in their own ways. Also, I haven't seen Akechi's dismount yet. HOWEVER..... as fun as Akechi shooting Joker was, and it was very fun, I don't think he comes close to P4MC vs Adachi in Yamano's room. The framing, the cinematography, the sudden shock of his Arcana changing, it was phenomenal. JYB absolutely killed that performance. Adachi.
Last Minute Baddie No One Cares About: Izanami vs Shido vs huh p3 doesn't have that huh. I'm gonna say Shido because no I don't care, but at least he's been mildly set up as the baddie where izanami, all you get is Edogawa giving you a four minute lecture on the creation myth of Japan and then you gotta remember that 40 hours later when the fucking gas station attendant turns out to be evil. It's dumb. At least Shido has backstory with Joker.
that was fun! it's interesting to see the reused tropes and pick which i like.

on Go - Isao Yukisada (2001)
Initial Impressions
Having absolutely loved Yosuke Kubozuka's performance in IWGP, the greatest show of all time, I was extremely excited to see him in this and it certainly did not disappoint. It has almost exactly the same kind of late '90s/ early 2000s energy that I loved that show for, although in a slightly different flavor. The quick cuts, the random speed-ups, the random violence, the sense of humor, etc etc, I love it all so much. And of course, Kobuzuka's performance here cannot be understated, the man is such a fucking vibe. If I had a spirit animal it would be him 100%.
Further Critique
The main thing that impressed me about this film was just how many directions it managed to go and just how many things it covered during its runtime. This did kinda make it feel a bit all over the place at times, but I felt like the variety was appropriate considering the complexity of the topic matter. For example, the father was a bit of a confusing character for me at first, as I couldn't quite figure out what the film was trying to get across by spending so much time focused on him, but by the end it was clear that he was just as relevant to the message of the film as Sugihara was, even if he is kind of a piece of shit at times. Another thing that felt a little weird at first was Sakurai kinda just literally being a manic pixie dream girl, which is why I was so fucking happy her character took the direction it did because I feared she would end up feeling a little too fake and kinda bring the film down, but luckily I was totally wrong there.
On that note, there were so many fucking amazing scenes in this film, namely the confession scene, the following scene with the copper, and that last confrontation scene. The confession scene in particular hit me really fucking hard because I could totally feel the awkward, confused feelings of both characters, conflicted between their own desires and the convoluted and complicated rules surrounding their identities. When she says whatever it was along the lines of "I understand in my head, but my body is rejecting you", it hit like a truck. It is fucking insane how social conditioning and shit gets totally absorbed into your subconscious to the point where even if you understand what's wrong with it, it still takes a crazy amount of effort to consciously resist it. I also thought it was revealing how the first thing Sugihara said when coming out to her wasn't like "My dad's from North Korea", it was "I'm not Japanese", despite the fact that the dude was born and raised there, spoke the language fluently, and could easily pass as Japanese in his everyday life if he wanted to. I thought this was a brilliant writing choice as it alludes to the real crux of the issue here, that being the exclusive nature of the title of "Japanese". No matter what he does, he will never not be seen as something "different" in Japan, purely because of his blood ties. The reverse would also be the case if he were to go to Korea, as evident by his time at the Chosen school, where he was considered a race traitor. No matter where he goes, he will always be defined by what he isn't. This is what made that final confrontation scene with Sakurai so damn powerful. Kubozuka delivered his lines with so much goddamn passion, it felt genuinely cathartic after seeing everything he'd gone through. With lines like, “Lions don’t call themselves lions, you gave them that fucking name” and, “I’m a fucking question mark”, etc, this scene was genuinely so fucking good. Alright, I'll stop gushing now lol. 8/10

Ryuji for that character thing! If you haven't had him already
Ryuji!! I already know this is gonna be a long one.
Favorite thing about them
He has one of the biggest, kindest hearts in the Persona universe. Once he found out why Makoto was blackmailing them, he forgave her almost immediately. Despite not having a lot himself, he spends money feeding Yusuke (which I will talk about in my headcanons). He tries to befriend and include Mishima because he knows he doesn’t have any friends. He is always hyping up and complimenting the other phantom thieves (have you heard his dancing lines?)
Least favorite thing about them
I don’t like the number of times he is written OOC in the game, particularly when it comes to pervertedness. Before I go on, this isn’t me ignoring his flaws. Character flaws are extremely important. Without them, a character is no longer interesting or even likable. One of my favorite persona characters is Yosuke who doesn’t exactly have the cleanest mind, so I’m not saying Ryuji isn’t perverted because I don’t like it. I’m saying it because I honestly don’t think he is.
Yes, Ryuji likes girls, but he isn’t gross about it. The only times I can recall this behavior is in two anime cutscenes towards Ann for comedic relief (side note: he didn’t realize what the maid service actually was. He genuinely thought they were just ordering a cute maid to do housework). Ryuji has so much respect for Ann, and he knows what she’s been through. He would never ever do anything like that- no matter how close they are.
I think what happened is the writers didn’t write a character who could make those kinds of jokes (except maybe Ren who is a silent protagonist), so when they wanted to make one of those jokes they chose Ryuji because he’s “the best option.” Morgana is lowkey a feminist, and, you know, a cat, so it would be a little weird coming from him. And then there’s Yusuke who lectured two girls for asking to hangout. ATLUS knows how to write a “likable pervert.” We’ve seen it with Yosuke. They could have given this trait to Ryuji, and I would have been fine with it. The problem is, they didn’t, making those scenes awkward and uncomfortable.
Favorite line
“I can’t think and flex at the same time.”
brOTP
Ren Ren!! Based on his dialogue options to characters like Ann and Sumire, I think Ren finds the super cheerful and energetic personality a little overwhelming, yet Ryuji, who is the loudest and brightest sunshine child out there, doesn’t bother him, and if that’s not the sweetest thing-
OTP
RyuAnn is so cute. Normally I don’t like shipping characters who are just best friends, but I love them together.
nOTP
I don’t really have one. He’s kind of shippable with everyone. Like any ship I see with him I’m like “I don’t think it, but I can see it.”
Random headcanon
He buys Yusuke food and tries to keep Jagariko on him. A lot of the time when Yusuke talks about being hungry or not having money for food Ryuji offers to take him out to eat or pay. In a manga, he said he didn’t have any Jagariko on him implying he usually does.
This is a popular one, but I think he dyed his hair blond back in middle school when ann was considering dying her hair black. It doesn’t make sense for him to dye it as a way to embrace his new reputation as a delinquent. He hates that reputation so much. Yes, he accepted it, but I don’t think he wants to add any unnecessary fuel to the fire.
He and Yusuke are roommates in college!
Shiho, Ann, and Ryuji were a trio in middle school.
He has insomnia. There are so many times throughout the game when he mentions not sleeping for literal days.
There’s very little that Ryuji does that annoys Ren; however, I know Ryuji has taken Ren’s glasses off his face and put them on himself. It’s such a Ryuji thing to do.
The girl at the convenience store who gave the chocolate to Ryuji on Valentine’s Day? It wasn’t pity chocolate, and they date sometime during third year or after high school.
This is also a popular one, but I think the reason why he isn’t a very good dancer in Dancing is because of his leg injury. He usually does very basic dance moves with his feet, and his dances focus more on his hands.
He sees Mishima sitting alone at lunch their third year of high school, and forces him to sit with them.
Unpopular opinion
His whole “fame thing” wasn’t that bad. While I don’t think it’s a good mindset to have, he never did or said anything harmful as a result of it. He was just annoying. Ryuji has extremely low self-esteem. He has been beaten down his entire life, physically and emotionally. The only thing he thought he was good at was track, and that didn’t turn out well for him. Finally, he’s doing something incredible, but nobody knows about it. He’s proud of his work as a phantom thief, and he wants to tell people. He also wants people to recognize how awesome he is and give him some sort of validation. He doesn’t feel loved, and he thinks it’s his fault. Now he has something that he knows would make others like him. I don’t understand why he gets so much crap for it when in-game he recognized his that behavior was wrong, why it was wrong, apologized, and said he would work to be a better person.
Song I associate with them
Travel Song from Shrek The Musical lol. It’s literally the Hawaii trip. Shrek is Ann, and Ryuji is Donkey.
Favorite picture of him
Tumblr media
Also this portrait. His smile makes me want to smile

“I am not jealous at all! S/he just gives you that… weird, flirty look, and I don’t like it.” - Yosuke Sagara [Request]
Tumblr media
... Goddamn it. I cannot believe myself.
I stepped into the house with (Y/N) in tow. My mind went back to what had just happened, and my fingers tightened around her wrist in an attempt to let go of the exasperation I felt with myself.
I really went there, didn’t I?
“Yosuke? Uh, what just happened?” she asked, looking up at me with her big, brown eyes, and I was pretty sure I saw confusion swimming in them. Now, now, I know I was supposed to focus on distracting her from her agenda of getting answers out of me, but those eyes were too damn inviting.
I mean, who looked at their boyfriend so cutely? And then if I pounced on her, she’d blame me for it.
“Yosuke?” she repeated, peering into my eyes, “Are you listening to me?”
Oh god. She looks cute. She looks so very cute. I want to ravish her. GOOD GOD, woman, do you have any idea what you do to me?
“Earth to Yosuke!”
“EEK!!”
“...”
So apparently... She yelled. I squeaked. I hope she didn’t hear that. Which is kind of impossible, because I was pretty loud.
“Did you just squeak?” She furrowed her brow, disbelief colouring her voice, and that one question was all it took for me to know that I wasn’t going to live this down.
Like, ever.
Well, I asked for it, didn’t I?
“I...” I began, biting my lip in an attempt to not focus on my girlfriend, whose shoulders were now shaking with barely suppressed laughter, “It was response to stimuli.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
“You just caught me off guard,” I muttered, waving my hand dismissively in the air as if to somehow throw this entire situation into some corner of the world where she wouldn’t be able to find it again, but that’s also when I saw the smirk forming on (Y/N)’s face, and-
“I? A lowly, humble, housekeeper... catching you, a suave, pain-up-everyone’s-ass, enigmatic gentleman, off-guard?”
- I knew I was doomed.
“I’m so honoured,” she continued, taking my silence as a sign to prod me a tad more. After a moment, (Y/N) looked up at me and gave me a wink, one which totally did not make me want to wipe that smirk off her face and turn it into a moan begging for more, and said, “That squeak was cute though.”
"I have absolutely no idea what you’re going on about,” I said, smiling at her. It was a kind of smile which would make even a blind person realise I was lying. Yeah, I know, a terrible choice indeed.
“Of course you don’t, my little bunny rabbit,” she said, the pet name coming out in a whisper. She turned her chin down and looked up at me pout, like how one would look when talking to a baby.
I know she was trying to mock me, but god was she cute about it.
She took a step closer to me, her wrist still held tightly between my fingers, and stood up on her tippy toes. She pressed her lips to my cheek for a moment before pulling away and whispering, “Or do you, bunny?”
And that’s all it took for my thread of reason to snap.
... not that I had one to begin with, I mean, but you get the point.
I pulled her in by the wrist and she let out a yelp, falling on to my chest, her arms reflexively wrapping around my waist. “(Y/N),” I almost growled, surprising even myself, but this woman before me was mad adorable, so you couldn’t really blame me, “Do you know what else bunnies are known for?”
“W-what?” she whimpered as my lips found her ear, my tongue tracing a line up her lobe.
“Their sex drive,” I winked, placing kisses on bits of skin from her ear to her jaw. “How about I show you?”
“On one condition,” she muttered, her eyes half-lidded as her words tumbled out in a seductive mumble. I kid you not when I say I almost picked her up and had my way with here right there and then. This woman was going to be the death of me in every sense of the damn word.
“What is it, baby?”
“You,” she started, her index finger giving my chest a slight jab, “have to tell me...”
“What do I have to tell you?” I asked, trying not to capture those lips with my own after they trailed off mid-sentence.
“What the heck happened back there?” she said, giving me a little push and taking a few steps back, her voice taking on it’s normal tone.
... What?
“Yosuke?”
Did she just ruin that holy smoking mood?
“You know what, I’m going back to Pandora to chat with Sydney. At least she responds to me,” she said, turning around and taking a step towards the door, with no knowledge about what that name did to me. For today, at least.
“NOT HAPPENING,” I snapped out of my reverie and grabbed her by the waist, wrapping my arms around her. “You’re not going to Pandora to chat with anyone. Sydney, especially.”
“Wait, why? What’s wrong with me chatting with Sydney?” she turned around in my arms, looking at me with a look of pure confusion.
... I don’t like you talking with her. Why can’t you pay attention to me instead, huh?
“Even before you dragged me back, I was having so much fun with her an-” (Y/N) paused mid-sentence, before uttering a small “Oh,” and it looked like she was finally able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
Which obviously wasn’t a good sign for me, because what loser would want their girlfriend to know they were jealous of a god forsaken animal, right?
“You were jealous, weren’t you.”
Bull’s eye.
But was I gonna tell her that? Pfft, no.
“What are you talking about?” I smiled, feigning ignorance. Or well, trying to.
“You’re telling me you were jealous of a crocodile,” she let out a big sigh, as if she was done with the world, and then smiled, most definitely in exasperation. “Really, Yosuke?”
“No, you’ve got it all wrong,” I said, placing my chin on the top of her head to hide the blush that was one hundred per cent colouring my cheeks, “I’m not jealous at all! She just gives you that... weird, flirty look, and I don’t like it.”
"First of all,” (Y/N) said, wrapping an arm around my neck and turning my head down to come face-to-face with hers, “It’s called jealousy.”
Okay. Fine. I was jealous. But I’d rather die than admit it to her. Nope, not happening. Absolutely not.
“And second of all,” she whispered, standing up on her tip toes, the arm around my neck now grabbing my face by the jaw, “What we have is platonic, you big baby.”
Yeah, let’s just take a moment to sit and talk about how dumb my whole fit of jealousy was, why don’t we.
But before my mind got that imaginary table and chair, (Y/N) pulled me in by the jaw and pressed her lips to mine, her fingers tangling themselves in my hair and her tongue finding my own.
Jesus fucking Christ, woman.
I pulled back a little, breaking our kiss, and looked into those half-lidded, lust filled eyes that I loved so much. “Now that I fulfilled your condition, (Y/N),” I muttered, my face so close to hers our lips almost touched. But before I could say a word more, she took the reigns of my self control in her hands and snapped them in half with what she said next.
“How about you show me just exactly what bunnies are capable of?”

ALTAIR THEATER: Towards the End of the Chosen Path (8 June 2017)
written by: Seki Ryouko (twitter) translated by: xkasumisou source: Animate Times
Tumblr media
【Summary】
The members of Sargas will be the selection units' backup dancers――Kasumi Sakuya, hearing this suggestion, opposed. Ignoring how his fellow unit members tried to hold him back, he made his way to Kaname Tatsuhiko, ALTAIR THEATER's leader. This was Sakuya, a man with a high level of pride who hated plans that were made without him knowing. Is the fact that he did not want to become a back dancer the reason he was so angry, or is it something else......?
【Story】
Hearing the details from Mikado, Sakuya couldn't help but let out a "Haa!?", his eyebrows knitting together.
"What is that. Sargas being the selection member's back dancers."
"I got a call from Yuri, who's doing a shoot right now. Isn't it something we should try, he said. Then he asked Tatsuhiko to suggest it to the President and then――"
As if trying to obstruct Mikado's words, Sakuya punched his first against the wall.
"What the heck is that supposed to mean!"
"Sakuya."
"You've got to be kidding me!" Ignoring how Mikado was about to say something, Sakuya turned and ran to the corridor.
 (This isn't a joke, Yuri!)
As soon as they got back, exhausted from practicing to perfection amongst themselves the dance right after lessons――this is it.
"Hey, Tatsuhiko!"
Hearing Sakuya's voice being thrown at them, Tatsuhiko, with Yosuke right beside him, stopped and turned around.
"What is it, Sakuya?"
"Why are you trying to do things on your own!"
"Doing on my own......?"
"Ah, is this about the back dancer thing?" Yosuke said, standing beside Tatsuhiko, whose head was tilted.
"Aah. That. You see......"
"Sakuya!" Mikado's voice came from behind them.
"Sorry, Tatsuhiko. I wasn't able to finish talking to Sakuya properly."
"That's not it!! What I'm trying to say is...!" Sakuya's breathing was uneven as he tried to cut through Mikado's attempt at placating him.
At that moment when everything seemed to freeze,
"Okay, okay, everyone, calm down." Said the optimistic Yosuke,
"If we all talk at the same time then this conversation won't go anywhere, right? Let's hear what Sakuya has to say first. Sakuya, you don't have to be impatient like that, we're listening――"
"Of course I'm being impatient!!" Letting out everything he had, the corridor once again fell silent.
"......Sakuya, listen to me." It was Tatsuhiko who carefully broke the terrible mood.
"I'm sorry we didn't consult you about the back dancer topic, even though you're directly involved. When Yuri gave me that suggestion, I thought it was a great idea, so I went ahead with it. I thought I would be the best person to suggest it to the President, since I'm the leader. I just wanted to try doing something for everyone, as a leader."
"Who is "everyone"?" Ignoring the lump in his throat, Sakuya continued.
"My... Us, of course. Then why did you decide on something as important as that when Hijiri and I weren't around......!"
"Sakuya......"
"I was told to transfer from the TSUKIPRO artist roster and enter Algeki. ......At that time, I wasn't given a choice."
To put it in words――I was a musical mismatch with the rest of my band members. It was terribly shallow, shameful, and it was too much trouble to decide on what to do from that point on, so I just went with it and entered ALTAIR THEATER.
"But now it's different. I'm a member of Sargas. I decided for myself to be here."
As long as I had music, nothing else mattered. Having friends was unattractive to me. That's what I thought.
The most uncool thing was how I myself didn't appreciate that place where I could continue making music.
(I won't make the same mistake twice.)
I don't want to blame it on anyone else. I want to decide.
I want to become a friend to my groupmates.
"......I understand. Then let me ask you. About being a back dancer, what do you want to do, Sakuya?
At Tatsuhiko's question, Sakuya lifted his head, met his gaze, and answered in a clear voice.
"The same. What I wanted to say was......"
"I understand. You wanted to decide on that too. I'm sorry."
Seeing Tatsuhiko's lowered head, Sakuya breathed a huge sigh.
As if he were trying to calm his own, wild emotions.
And then, he spoke quietly.
"...... I'm also...... sorry...... I yelled. ......I want to try. I actually really wanted to say it to the President, but if Tatsuhiko's the one best to suggest it to the President, then please, do so."
Saying this, Sakuya, too, bowed deeply. Beside him, he knew Mikado did the same.
He knew that Tatsuhiko and Yosuke, looking from above, were confused too.
It isn't like me to bow like this. I'm sure that's what they're thinking.
(But that's the "me up until now" we're talking about, right?)
I'll overcome this image of mine. Farther, even farther.
"I got it. Let's talk to Hijiri about this now, too." After Tatsuhiko's words, Sakuya, still head lowered, whispered "Thank you".
Translation Notes:
i. Hello, so I never expected this from Sakuya, of all people. So, um, I love Sakuya now too. Sargas gives such good content. The SS that came after was Sargas, too, but I’ll work on that another time. Ah, backlog.
ii. All Animate Times short story translations are tagged under “algeki short stories”.
iii. There’s the possibility that I’d edit this when I feel that there are better ways to translate lines. Also, feel free to message me if you find any mistakes, and the like.
