Exploring Orlando with Sapnap’s two favorite people had to be the best idea ever. Both Y/n and Clay agreed that the Texan had not seen enough of the Floridian city during his time there, so the trio made plans to set out and take the city.
“Come on, we’re gonna be late!”
Sapnap anxiously smoothed his hair one more time in hopes it would look better, but he remained as unsatisfied as ever. He popped on a hat, hoping that it would cover the mess that was his hair. It still hadn’t quite grown out in a way that he liked, so instead Sapnap found himself opting to cover it with a hat.
Rushing downstairs, he quickly stopped to gently stroke the household cat, Patches, and say goodbye to her. After leaving the house and locking up, Sapnap slid into the passenger seat. The blonde driver seated next to him threw a side glance.
“What took you so long, it’s just Y/n.”
Sapnap just scoffed and turned on the radio, electing to ignore Clay’s joke. His friend couldn’t be further from the truth; there was no such thing as j u s t Y/n. Y/n was flawless; their face, their body, even their clothing choices, everything about them was just perfect. Visiting with them definitely elicited a need to look as good as possible.
It didn’t help that Sapnap had an ever growing crush on Y/n. Ever since Clay decided to introduce him to his lifelong friend, Sapnap had been falling hard. Y/n was funny and had such a great personality, getting along wasn’t hard at all. Sapnap wanted to tell them how he felt, but he never could really find the right way. Still, they were now the best of friends, and spending time with Y/n was a joy, even if it meant he was constantly trying to hide the fact that he was simping.
Before long, the car pulled up to Y/n’s apartment and Clay texted to let them know. After just a brief moment, Y/n came down the stairs; seeing their two friends, a smile lit up their face and they awkwardly waved. Sapnap felt his heart rate speed up; that smile was one he loved to see. Trying to calm himself, he turned and welcomed as Y/n climbed into the back seat.
“Hello boys, are y’all ready?”
“Aye aye.” Clay mock saluted to his friend in the rear view mirror, and Y/n returned the gesture by sticking out their tongue. Deciding to be fake mad at the blonde, they turned their attention to Sapnap.
“Hey, what’s up.”
“Not much, how about you.”
“Not much? Sir you are about to experience the great city of Orlando with an expert guide! Oh, and Clay I guess.”
Both young men laughed at that, and that started up a whole conversation about the day ahead. Plenty of banter was thrown around, and before the trio knew it, they had arrived at their first destination. Universal studios was quite the sight to behold, and despite having been multiple times before, Y/n couldn’t be more enthusiastic. It was contagious, and before Sapnap realized he was also excited, and it appeared like Clay was the same way. The three of them were like kids in a candy shop; eagerly they made their way through each ride and shop that sparked their interest. Y/n spent a lot of time at the Harry Potter section, admiring every last detail and product there. Sapnap felt lucky that he got to see them in a place that made them so happy; he loved watching them laugh and smile, it made him happy when they were happy.
The fun didn’t stop after Universal, however; the trio went on to visit The Wheel at ICON Park and the Orlando Science Center. Many minecraft jokes were made as Clay, Y/n, and Sapnap interacted with the exhibits there. They even went to the Sea Life Aquarium and enjoyed comparing random fish to each other. Everything was perfect, except Sapnap started to feel a sharp pain that was suspiciously like jealousy. He didn’t mean to be jealous, but he watched how at ease Y/n and Clay were with with each other. The latter would often throw his arm around Y/n, or they would laugh at one of his jokes, and Sapnap couldn’t help but realize that he was nowhere near that. He felt self conscious, keenly aware of his awkwardness.
But why wouldn’t Y/n go for Clay? After all, he was tall and handsome, and there was a reason his personality was famous. As Sapnap compared himself to his friend, more and more shortcomings seemed to appear. Eventually, the young man wanted nothing more than to just leave and curl up with Patches for comfort, but he focused on staying with his group and not letting his own feelings interfere with their fun day.
As the sun started to set, the tired group agreed to take a drive to the beach and spend the rest of their evening there. After grabbing some food, the group made their way down to the beach. The sky was beginning to turn a beautiful pinkish orange color, and all three young adults agreed this was a great idea.
“Nooooo!” Clay’s cry suddenly disturbed the peace, and both Y/n and Sapnap inquisitively looked at him.
“What’s wrong?”
“I forgot the blanket in the car, hang on, I’ll be right back.”
They watched Clay’s retreating figure, but they knew that it was quite a trek to get there. The parking lot wasn’t super close, so they’d be waiting a while.
“Come on.” Y/n set down their bags and gestured for Sapnap to follow them. He obliged, and soon both were walking up to the water edge. Y/n started carefully walking along the beach, their gaze pointed down towards the sand.
“What are you doing?”
“Looking for sea shells, after all, you can’t just go to the beach without collecting sea shells.”
Sapnap couldn’t really disagree with that statement, so he fell into pace with his friend, and together they combed the beach. Every one in a while Y/n would stop, pick up a shell, and wash it in the water. They would then run back up to Sapnap and examine it with him. Soon enough, both Sapnap and Y/n’s hands were full of shells, and they decided to turn back.
When they returned to the original spot, Clay still wasn’t back.
“Screw it, I’m sitting in the sand.” Y/n was good to their word, and the sat criss cross in the sand. Looking back up at Sapnap, they patted the ground next to them, gesturing as if it was a grand seat and not just sand. For a while, the two sat in comfortable silence shoulder to shoulder.
“So, what did you think of your first day of being an Orlando tourist?”
“It was pretty good, there’s so much cool stuff here.”
Y/n laughed and bumped Sapnap’s shoulder. “Yeah, it was pretty cool. Clay and I have lived here so long that sometimes we forget just how special this city can be.”
Sapnap nodded his head and looked towards the ground beneath him, trying not to remember all the insecurities that had been plaguing him all day. “You and Clay are close.”
“Yeah, but so are you and him. He’s been telling me about you for years.”
“Hmm, I guess so, but I mean, we’re not close close like you guys are.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Sapnap saw Y/n’s face scrunch up in confusion. “What are you talking about?”
“Well, I mean, you know. Like uh, the joking around, the hugging, uh…”
Suddenly Y/n started laughing, and laughing so hard that they fell backwards. “Sapnap! Do you seriously think Clay and I are dating?”
Sapnap felt his face turn bright red. “Well, yeah.”
Getting back up, Y/n shook their head and looked Sapnap straight in the eye. “No, no, no way. Clay is like a brother to me.”
“Oh, uh, whoops.” Sapnap nervously chuckled, embarrassed that he’d let his own thoughts interfere with fact.
“Wait, Sapnap, is this what’s been bothering you all day?”
He snapped his head back around to look at Y/n. “What?”
“Sapnap, I may have only known you for a few months, but I could tell something was up. Was that it?”
Y/n’s eyes were so warm, and so full of compassion and worry, Sapnap felt himself wanting to tell them everything. “Yeah. I mean, Clay’s so tall, and handsome, and charming, and like, who wouldn’t date him cau-“
He never got to finish his sentence because a pair of lips were pressed against his own. It was a short kiss, and he felt himself regretting it when the pressure was removed. Opening his eyes again, he saw that Y/n’s cheeks were dusted with a deep blush.
“Sapnap, I’ve never thought about Clay that way. You, yes, but not Clay. And for the record I find you very handsome and charming.”
“You do?”
“Yes, I do! I’ve had the biggest crush on you since I met you, I just never thought you’d feel the same.”
Sapnap let out a short laugh of disbelief. “And here I was thinking I was the only hopeless romantic. I never said anything because I thought I wasn’t enough for you.”
Y/n leaned in close to Sapnap again and cupped his face in their hand. “You have always been and always will be enough. More than enough.” And with that, they closed the gap.
This time, reassured and prepared, Sapnap reciprocated the kiss. He wrapped his arms around Y/n, pulling them closer to him. His heart felt like fireworks were going off; the person he adored felt the same way towards him, and his was more than enough to them. He didn’t see how, but he trusted that they would only tell the truth. After all, it was his Y/n, and he would show them every day just how much they meant to him.
A/n i just can’t shake the feeling that Sapnap probably deals with a lot of insecurities and me being an empath i have always been obsessed with the idea of comforting a character that feels like they aren’t good enough, so that’s pretty much the inspiration for this. it was also written at 1:27 in the morning so enjoy :)
