Even though you’d decided to tell the squad about your relationship, something about actually doing so was harder than either of you thought it would be. Being committed to each other in private was one thing, but facing questions and curiosity from the others – even when it was good natured – seemed like an intrusion neither of you was quite ready for. You were also both concerned about being seen as anything less than professional when you were working together – or being separated once you’d declared your relationship officially. So you were stalling, watching and waiting for the right time. Never once did you doubt Nick’s feelings for you, and you could tell by how often he was smiling these days that he was very happy in this relationship.

Before either of you had found the right moment to say something, the whole unit was swept into another investigation, a series of rapes, with victims who had picked up their rapist in the city’s gay bars. After the third such attack left the victim with serious injuries in Bellevue Hospital, it was decided that an UC surveillance operation in the popular bars, for as many nights as it took, would be the most effective way of spotting the perp. Fin and Nick were to act as patrons of the bar, watching the men around them closely, and you were installed as a bartender, in a role that gave you a wider view of activity all around the bar, especially as you cleared tables and picked up glasses.

Fin had gone to town with his UC outfit, in his flamboyant suit and shirt. Nick was much more subtle, his shirt and tie not much different to his usual work attire. But, to you, he looked amazing. In the dim lighting of the bar, pretending to sip a drink, he looked so handsome it was tough to keep your eyes off him. You understood why detectives were supposed to declare any relationships they were in, realising how distracting you found him. You knew his eyes were on you, too, and you were fairly sure he was enjoying the short skirt and slim-fitting button down you were wearing. Feeling mischievous, the next time you saw him looking, you loosened an extra button, revealing just a little more cleavage. Nick watched your fingers and looked back up to your eyes, raising an eyebrow. You gave him a little smile, and sauntered away to clear some more tables.

By the time you returned to the bar, Nick had drained his drink. He looked over at you and raised a hand to summon you. You walked over to him, as he leaned forward on his elbows, money between his fingers, and looked you up and down with a look in his eyes designed to tease.

“What can I get you, darling?” you asked. “Same again?” You ran a hand over the curve of your waist, enjoying the way his eyes followed it.

“Yeah,” he said, clearly making an effort to hide the effect you had on him. “Less ice this time.”

“No problem,” you said, taking his glass, turning to pour him a drink. He was drinking tonic water with ice and lemon, but you picked up the vodka bottle and pretended to pour it, so that it looked like Nick was just a patron at the bar, drinking along with all the others. You turned back with a smile, to find his eyes dancing, looking you up and down very obviously. You put the glass on the bar and he reached to take it from you, his fingers briefly warm against yours. A shock of electricity travelled up your arm. Even though you’d woken in his arms this morning, the tension of professional distance made every flirty look and touch seem as thrilling as when you’d first met him. You leaned forward, to speak close enough that no one else would hear you, glad Nick wasn’t wearing a wire for this operation. “From the way you’re looking at me, I don’t think you’re in the right kind of bar…” you said, then leaned back and gave him a little wink, before turning away.

You left him alone to work, and focused on scanning the crowd for a person that matched the description of the perp, but there was no one even remotely close in sight. It was looking like a bust tonight, the more the time passed by. You checked your phone and found a text from Liv, sent to you, Nick and Fin, telling you it was getting late – the crimes had all been committed earlier than this – and that you’d give it fifteen more minutes then call it a night. You glanced across at Nick, seeing him looking down at his phone. He turned and said something to Fin, who was now sitting near him at the bar, and then he looked across at you.

You nodded and smiled, acknowledging that you’d seen the message. Then you smiled in an altogether less professional way, turning to pick up the glasses from the nearest table, bending at the waist, knowing he’d be taking in the view, and knowing how short your skirt was. When you straightened up and looked back at him, Nick had a tiny, amused smile playing on his lips, but his eyes were set stern and knowing, burning with a certain intensity.

After a quick debrief, Liv told you to get an early night, since you’d likely be out in bars for the next few nights. No new attacks had been reported tonight, so the day would bring other lines of enquiry too. Nick and Fin had talked to other patrons, and managed to get a few ideas to inform the description of who you were all looking for, but you were glad to get to go home. As had become your way, you left first, with Nick following five minutes later, so as not to make anyone suspicious. Luckily, the subway ride to your place wasn’t far. As you settled next to Nick on the train, he took your hand and clasped it between his, stroking the soft skin on the inside of your wrist. He leaned closer to you, turning his face to your ear.

“You were very…naughty… tonight, mi amor,” he said very quietly, choosing his words carefully.

“Was I?” you looked at him innocently.

“You know it,” he said, smirking.

“What’re you going to do about it?” you challenged, feeling the heart building inside you already.

“You wait until I get you home,” he said in a deep tone, then looked away from you, his face settled, as if he hadn’t just sent a wave of arousal through your whole body.

You unlocked the door of your apartment, and let him through. The way he stalked through, the way he held himself, you knew he was coiled and ready to pounce. You felt the tingle of anticipation through your whole body, as you removed your coat and hung it inside the door, and he did the same.

Suddenly, with the firm hands of a detective used to restraining suspects, he grabbed hold of you and you found yourself pushed against the wall, pinned in place. You caught your breath, as heat throbbed through you, resisting the last thing on your mind.

“What’re you doing?” you said, your voice breathy, not bothering to hide your arousal.

“What I wanted to do in that bar, mi amor. With my flirty girl…” his voice was deep, his words spoken close to your ear, sending shivers through your body.

Nick grabbed your wrists, wrapping his long fingers around them, bringing them up above your head and pinning them to the wall. He took both wrists into one of his big hands, then let the tips of his fingers on the other hand brush down over your arm, coating you in goose bumps. You felt his lips come to the shell of your ear, Nick’s hot breath fanning over your skin as his hand made its way to the hem of your skirt,

“Think you were being cute mi Amor? Teasing me like that- you could have blown my cover,” Nick grabbed onto the hem of your skirt pulling it up to rest around your hips, and you gasped.

“I-I- I’ am sorry” you whimpered out with a shaky breath. Nick knew what you liked by now, but this was one of the first times he’d been quite so assertively dominant.

Nick lent his solid body into your back pressing you into the wall, his hard fabric-covered bulge pushing into you. His hand ran along the top of your thigh and up to the waist of your panties, sliding down into them, cupping you. As his pointer finger brushed along your wet core, you shivered.

Your hands went up into Nick’s hair, balling into fists, and a sharp sting made you groan. When Nick pulled off with a sharp pop and you looked down at the purple mark he left behind. Nick grinned at you and you took your chance to reach up to loosen his tie pulling it out of his collar and then you both made quick work of undoing his shirt buttons and pushed it off his shoulders, it pooling at his feet behind him. Nick quickly rid himself of all his clothes, and you followed, until you were both standing there naked, your eyes scanning over each other’s body’s.

Nick pushed you back into the wall again, your wrists in both his hands above your head. Nick pushed his leg between your thighs and pushing it up into your centre, and he clenched his muscle grinding it into you. Your head fell back onto the wall, your mouth wide open. You started to roll your hips over his leg, your need to come rushing through your body.

You both went to walk into the bathroom when you heard loud buzzes coming from your small hallway. You both rushed over to the pile of discarded cloths searching for your phones. You found yours first, looking down at Liv’s name flashing on the screen,

“Hey Liv.”

“Y/N, I’ve emailed you the details of the case, the hotel address and your plane tickets, there are four victims in Miami that I need you guys to question, make sure you tape them so Barba can use it. You’ll meet Amaro at the airport tomorrow morning. You’ll fly out then and do all the questioning the following day.”

“No worries Liv. Will do.”

You looked into your bedroom where Nick was on the phone. He let out a hearty laugh and shook his head smirking,

“Ok Fin copy that. Night”

“You heard?” You made your way to him once you’d both ended your calls.

“I did, pack your bags baby, we’re going to Miami.”

The apartment was quiet, save for the low hum of the TV. Some Japanese game show was on but Kayla was paying no mind to it as her eyes zeroed in on the grainy wooden coffee table. Her spirit was in a world of its own as her hands blindingly scratched Pixie’s neck. Mack was happily munching on his lettuce beside her while Sunny was playing with a little ball between her paws. The pets were great company but they weren’t the best at communicating as Kayla exhaled shamefully, her head dropping to the back of the sofa. Her eyes closed as she recounted what happened in Ethan’s office.

“You’re an immature irresponsible resident that has turned the diagnostics team into a free flowing ATM. I hope you’re happy Dr. Jackson, you’ve gone against the principles of this team. I expected better from one of the best doctors.”

She flinched at the crystal clear sharp tone in his voice as she sunk further into her spiral of despair. She only reached out to Gwyneth to help with her condition and it was an extra bonus that she was willing to spend more money for her healthcare. A small fraction of her felt guilty at the fact that she went behind Ethan’s back but if she was presented with the choice she’d happily do it again.

The familiar rattle of the door handle rang as Kayla lifted her head to see Elijah and Sienna enter, having just finished their shifts at the hospital. She buried her pain and smiled widely at her friends.

“Hey guys! How was today?”

“It was pretty good but you seem to have had a harder day. What happened?”

Sienna’s soft eyes and nurturing smile made it harder for Kayla to hide the terrible things that happened today. Kayla’s face dropped as Sienna and Elijah made their way over to be beside Kayla as she opened up.

“Dr. Ramsey found out that I messaged Gwyneth to come to our hospital for treatment.”

Sienna and Elijah shared an anxious glance at Kayla’s despair. Both of them knew that Dr. Ramsey and Kayla had some semblance of a relationship so her depressed state was something much deeper as Sienna wrapped an arm around Kayla’s shoulder. Edenbrook was struggling from the budget cuts but Elijah knew that Kayla had a very good reason to go behind Dr. Ramsey’s back.

“Well, you did the right thing Kayla. You probably saved the diagnostics team.”

“I know it will but Dr. Ramsey doesn’t see it that way. He thinks that getting Gwyneth will pave the way for billionaires to get better care and soon the people that need help will be denied because they can’t afford it.”

“He’s wrong and we all know that this the only way to save the diagnostics team.”

“I know.”

The front door opens as Jackie strides through, sending a quick greeting to her friends before rushing into her room. Changing into her jeans and blue button shirt, coming back to the living room.

“Why aren’t you guys getting ready? Today Donnahue’s are doing a thirty percent discount for Edenbrook residents and doctors. The others are waiting for us there.”

Kayla wasn’t in the mood for a drink but deep down she had a feeling Ethan would be there. It was his usual haunt and she couldn’t face him after what he said to her. Sienna beamed as she stood up and nudged Kayla.

“Come on. A drink would you some good.”

“Sienna.”

“Nope! You’re coming with us or Jackie’ll drag you out.”

“And I will, Kayla.”

Kayla exhaled as she mumbled, groggily getting up and dragging her feet to her room. She stared into her closet, looking for something to wear. A knock rang on her door as she hummed, hearing steps come up beside her and she sees Sienna in a nice blue striped dress.

“What are you gonna wear Kayla?”

Kayla spotted something and pulled the hanger out to show Sienna. It was a plain blue sweater dress but Sienna shook her head vehemently. Kayla was not going to continue to wallow in her sadness as she yanked the dress and tossed it away to Kayla’s bed.

“Hey!”

“No! I’m not letting you dress up like that. Don’t let Dr. Ramsey get to you like that! Deep down, you know you’re right.” A small smile made a way to Kayla’s face as she couldn’t help but agree. It was the best decision she made and she doesn’t regret it one bit.

“I know.”

“Good! Now let’s wear something pretty and wreck the house tonight.” A bigger smile broke out on Kayla’s face as Sienna spotted the perfect outfit for Kayla. Stepping forward and pulling the hanger to show Kayla: a forest green satin wrap dress. It was perfect and sexy as Sienna brought out a black leather jacket and suede black ankle boots.

There was a pep to her step as she entered the bar. Shaking off the cold outside air and she could see the bar bustling with residents and interns from Edenbrook. It was almost a full house as Kayla, Sienna, Elijah and Jackie brushed past people to get to their booth where Kyra, Rafael, Aurora and Bryce were sat, already having started with beer bottles in their hands. All eyes drew to Kayla as Bryce wolf whistled.

“Damn Kayla! You look like you’re ready to get laid.”

She rolled her eyes and sat next to Bryce, nudging his shoulder playfully.

“Next time, Bryce.”

Bryce smirked as he offered Kayla his drink, she took it and downed the rest as Jackie and Kyra bought a variety of drinks: shots of tequila and bottles of beer. Tonight, Kayla was going to forget and just lose control. After three shots of tequila, she could feel the light buzz coursing through her chest and all the knots of anxiety were slowly melting. Just as she was about to take her fourth shot, her eyes caught sight of a familiar green jacket and smooth back curly hair. The cloudy blue grey eyes and soft beard.

Ethan had entered the bar and it seemed his eyes were taken aback at seeing her. She looked exceptionally radiant and part of Ethan wanted to go over but he knew that he needed to keep away. She was a colleague and he still hasn’t forgiven her for what she did. He tore his eyes away and went to the bar to order his usual scotch. Kayla’s heart sagged as Ethan went away to the bar without even greeting her.

A chill vibrates through her as Kayla clutched her jacket closer as Bryce noticed the chill.

“Feeling cold?”

“A little.”

“I’m sure a little tequila will warm you up.”

She smiled and took another shot of tequila. The liquid courage lit a small fire as her eyes danced to the centre stage where two doctors drunkenly sang some cheesy eighties song. The tequila was meddling with her brain as she stood up and walked over to the karaoke stand.

The two doctors just finished up with their song as Kayla took centre stage, placing the mic in it’s holder stand and she scrolled through the songs list for karaoke. Her friends were too busy in their drinks when they heard a sultry tone rumble through the air. They frowned and turned towards the stage. Some of their eyes widened while others grew a big grin at the sight of Kayla standing tall and proud. Mic in her hand and a stool beside her.

Ethan felt a change in the music as his eyes were also drawn to the stage, his breath hitched in his throat as he spotted Kayla. No longer his intelligent colleague but a mystifying angel of lust. Her eyes connected with Ethan’s as her voice sang the first line.

I will never sacrifice my love, not even for you.

The tequila brought a husky tone that made her sound like a low hum of a jazz radio. Mellow and pleasing to the ears. Ethan furrowed his eyebrows with intrigue as Kayla set her gaze firmly on him. The bar patrons becoming a blur as she grasped the mic stand close to her.

Kayla was talking about what she did as Ethan straightened his posture. He never knew she could sing so well as Kayla raised an eyebrow at him. She knew he was watching her and the tequila in her soul was burning bright. Control was in her grasp as she let her fingers drag over her body, getting to the edge of her jacket and letting it slip off her shoulders.

Letting her satin emerald dress take the focus off her. All her friends were stunned from Kayla’s seductive display: Sienna and Aurora’s jaws dropped; Elijah had started recording this insane moment, and to show sober Kayla what happened; Kyra and Jackie cheering her on while Rafael and Bryce were entranced from her subtle movements.

Ethan felt the slight burn of anger murmur in him as he noticed every male gaze stick to Kayla but her eyes were on him. Part of him was jealous as he wanted to stride to the stage and take Kayla home, but another part of him was a little proud at her little display and that she was focused on him. He knew she had something to drink otherwise she wouldn’t have gone on stage and pulled that stunt off. She was baring everything to him and with that he sat rooted on his seat. Eyes taking in her hands over the sides of her hips.

He was still sat watching her, the glass of scotch in his deft hands and Kayla frowned slightly. Her act was getting nothing out of him.

She was getting into the second chorus and her hips began swaying slowly like a metronome keeping in time with the steady beat of the song. He tensed slightly as Kayla let a smile reach her face as she finished the song off with a soft hum. The buzz of the tequila got absorbed into her mind as she straightened herself and bowed at the raucous applause.

The men jeered loudly and some women whooped. Kayla glanced at Ethan, his fingers were wrapped tightly around his glass and his gaze was a whispering chill over her body and soul. She sent a daring flirtatious wink at him before gliding towards her group of friends. Their voices clamoured over one another. Singing their praises and surprise at Kayla’s performance. She draped her jacket over the chair she sat in as she excused herself to head towards the restroom.

She was about to enter the ladies’ when a firm hand clasped her upper arm and yanked her in to a small dark room. Just as she was about to scream, the light came on and the grey eyed doctor was in front of her. Her heart pumped viciously as she leaned against the door of what seemed to be a supply closet. His presence surrounded her and she was surprised by the welcome chill that radiated from him. Ethan raised an eyebrow and suppressed a growl.

The dress looked even more silky and glowing as it sparkled against her dark skin. Her red ombre hair was done up in a braided bun which made her neck shine. Kayla looked like the radiant queen of an empire as she realised the gravity of where they were. Ethan had pulled her into a supply closet, just the two of him and the warmth of their bodies swirled in the air. He had risked someone seeing them as she stood tall against him.

“Ethan.”

“Jackson.”

“Still not calling me Rookie?”

“I’m still upset about what you did.”

“I’ve apologised many times and I don’t know what else you want me to say.”

“Your performance said plenty.”

She shrugged a little at the slight gritted tone in his voice.

“Well I’ll say it one last time: I’m sorry I went behind your back and got Gwyneth to come to the hospital. If I were given the option, I’d do it again. It really was the only way to save Edenbrook.”

Unlike the previous apologies, this one had more vulnerability as Ethan peered deep into her brown eyes. He saw her fire and passion to help Edenbrook. This and her performance all accumulated to the fact that she was right. Despite the fact that it went against the principles of Naveen and the diagnostics team, it would be something Ethan would do. Something he already did as he signed a deal with Declan Nash to save Naveen.

Kayla did the exact same thing for a multitude of patients. He liked her determination to save people and his face softened. She was taken aback by the calmness in his eyes as his lips curled up to a neutral smile.

“I’m sorry, Kayla. You did the right thing. When all the other outcomes fail, sometimes the worst solutions can be the best. I’m glad you made the decision.”

Her cheeks warmed at his apology as she dropped her eyes down to his collar. Unable to look him in the eye as she mumbled.

“Thanks.” Ethan glanced down and scratched the back of his neck, the tense air now loose which left a slight serene calm in the air. Kayla furrowed her eyebrow and glanced back at the door. “Was that it or is there anything else?”

The performance. He wanted to tell her what he thought about her performance but it wasn’t right. She was a grown woman, who could do what she wanted. A woman that literally serenaded her desires to him in front of a bunch of resident doctors and her friends. He took a deep breath and opened up.

“Nothing else.”

“Wait! So you pulled me into a closet just to say you’re sorry.” He kept his mouth shut yet his silence was enough of an answer for her. “You know we could have had this conversation outside.”

“People might look a little deeper into our conversation.”

“Since when do you care about what people think?”

“I don’t but I know they’ll be surprised once I do this.”

He stepped closer to Kayla and leaned down to press his lips against hers. Letting his walls crumble down temporarily as his lips rubbed over hers, he could taste the tequila she had drank, it melted deliciously against the scotch he had. A low smell of cinnamon and grapefruit filled his nose as he breathed it in deeply. A perfume she often wore to work as it lifted from her, as the heat of the supply closet and their bodies caused her to slightly perspire.

It made her scent stand out more and he sunk deeper, pushing his tongue into hers to dance sensually. His eyes closed to let his senses elevate the tastes and scents of their bodies. Kayla felt her consciousness drift away as her hands came to rest on the sides of his waist. Her fingers pressed between the hem of the shirt feeling the soft cotton and his skin.

The girls he spends time around are the super clingy forward types who usually want that sort of thing…And Chiaki, too confused to do anything, has to fleeeeee! -While Keita is panicking inside and Aguri just…Oh, poor Aguri. She’s totally checked out and shut her brain down. So, uh, Tasuku didn’t pick the right mystery door. At all. He picked the bad one. And then bulldozed the set. So Keita is panicking because he heard more than enough to know that Tasuku is two-timing Aguri…And Aguri is…Um…She’s just rambling out the Konami Code over and over again, which I think means she needs to be rebooted. Quick, where’s her power button?

-Cut to a clear blue sky. Aguri has recovered enough, as the two try to figure out what to do going forward while they actually get drinks…With her suspicions seemingly confirmed, Aguri has to figure out how she even wants to progress. She still loves the idiot, even with her heart having just been broken…But she doesn’t even know if she wants to try and salvage that relationship, right now. So, okay! Deep breath! Focus on a problem they can actually fix! Namely, Keita and Karen. That’s something she can actually make progress on. What have you been doing to work towards asking her out, Keita?

-…Um…Well…You see…The answer to that is…

-Do you have any idea how hard she had to work to get Tasuku? This won’t be easy, you know! Keita quietly reminds himself that Tasuku sure as hell didn’t prove to be worth all that effort for her. SHE HEARD THAT YOU FUCK

-From Keita’s read, though, he needs to be friends with Karen first…Hell, he needs to even be noticed by her as more than just recruitment material! (Oh if only you knew) Well you only get to either of those by being bold and forward! You want to get somewhere, you gotta make that first step! He knows, he just…It’s…Well how did you confess to Tasuku?

-And Aguri gets all blushy and gushy. You wanna know? You really wanna knowwww? Ohhh man! She’ll tell you everything! …She just straight up asked him. She did the whole new look thing first since she heard rumors he was into the bubbly ditzy thing, but in the end…You just gotta be direct! The truth of the heart is rarely so complicated. You can do it. She believes in you!

-And Keita starts to get a fire in his belly, as he decides he’s got nothing to lose! He’s going to do it! He’s going to talk to Karen tomorrow, and befriend her or die trying! HELL YEAH! Chase your happiness, dude! They clasp hands in triumph, as all of the other patrons of this cafe wish this pair would quit fucking coming here.

-Over to Karen having to let a whole series of guys down. All of whom are…Not having good times with it, as she’s getting more and more blunt with her answers, too.

-To the game club, where Eiichi’s noticed how brutal she’s getting with her answers. He can’t help but wonder if something’s shifting her focus. WHAT WHERE WOULD YOU GET THAT IDEA…But he also thinks that Karen tends to always kind of keep her guard up. Maybe she wouldn’t come off so harshly if she was a little more open and honest and let the armor down? Otherwise, as he mumbles to himself, he sees no way she’s ever gonna get Keita to notice her as a woman…What was that? Oh, nothing!

-Over to Keita’s place, where he’s playing Golden Memories…And his character fucking ditches the Karen type when some thugs grab her up. Wow. Wwwwww. You earned that Bad End, you sure did. You were so close, too! He wonders if it just proves he’s totally incompatible with the rich idol type…

-And that’s when he notices he’s got some texts! One from Aguri, wishing him well and reminding him to get some sleep! Tossing and turning all night will just mean he doesn’t have the energy or vibrancy to tackle this head-on. And don’t stay up all night gaming, either! Ouch.

-And the other messages? From Tasuku, who heard that he’s finally going after Karen, and wants to offer Keita some backup so it works out, and Keita will get some serious respect if it all works! Or, you know, derision and mockery if she still shuts him down, lulz. And Keita is about ready to tell him off, but, no, deep breath. Tasuku might be a dickhead, but he’s still trying to help him, right? Oh and then Mono-san sends him a game message to get fired up about the in-game event tomorrow…Keita can’t help but feel that Mono-san is a kindred spirit, someone he can understand, a shy and awkward soul…Who, in their own way, is rooting for him too.

-And he decides one last round at Golden Memories. As he begins to think…What if the answer isn’t to neglect the others and focus on Flora, the rich idol type who looks like Karen…What if the answer is that Flora only likes the kind of guy who treats them all right? That’s unusual…But as he barrels through the choices, focusing on everyone’s happiness…He gets the Good End, with Flora leaping into the hero’s arms, having fallen for his kind and gentle heart!

-That’s the real answer! You’ve got to treat everyone right…You’ve got to stand by your friends who’ve looked out for you! Even if this doesn’t work, he’s learned a true and profound lesson in life!

-Commercial break!

-And we’re back! It’s the next day in class, and Tasuku’s old stylish friends want to know what the FUCK he’s managed to do to that little nerd that he’s going to try and ask out the hottest girl in school! Leave him beeeeeeeee. Also he secretly spread that rumor around in the first place. You know, every time Tasuku gets that face, it means something is about to get worse. Even Keita is starting to hear the rumors, and getting nervous…

-As they end up having a bit of a confrontation when they both step out to the bathroom. Tasuku realizes Keita might be angry, and tries to save some face with an apology…But, listen, he’s trying to help you out, too. Think about it. You and Karen get together as friends. What are people going to think when they see you two together? That you’re a couple. You want people to know the score. And the kind of people who will spread it around so it becomes known knowledge! So, where is the best time to ensure people see the results?

-…Their classroom, right after the last bell, when tons of people are still hanging around, including Tasuku’s gossip friends! Now you get it. Shit, that all DOES make sense! Keita can use this!

-Cut over to Aguri’s class, where she’s trying to map out the insane relationship chart that her life now includes, and figure out how to thread the needle on this…And how to deal with Chiaki. She’s the real problem. If Chiaki wasn’t involved, it’d all be easy, because the only other girl in the picture would be Karen, who Keita likes, and so if they got together, it’d take her off the menu and let Aguri keep Tasuku all for herself. It’d all line up. But, there IS Chiaki. Who Keita insists he hates but is clearly closer to than he’s willing to admit. And who clearly likes Tasuku. And who Tasuku, from all the data Aguri has, likes in turn. Chiaki is the monkey wrench in the works. But since she can’t Plan C this girl, how the hell can she solve the problem?!

-Hell, she can’t even manage to write that Tasuku likes her without having a freakout…Made worse because Chiaki reminds her so much of her old self! Her dark days, before she could manage to ask Tasuku out! Aaaargh! Bye bye, relationship chart.

-Wait, wait…The whole thing Keita’s doing after school. Tasuku will be there…She can use that! She can get his feelings, and bring his eyes back to her!

-Cut to Chiaki, who has heard the rumors and is trying to figure out what this will all mean…She would swear before a court of law that Keita’s dating this Aguri girl…Except, she’s also heard that Tasuku is dating a girl with the same name. Sisters? Or the same girl? Would Keita really steal a girl out from his friend like that…No, no, she knows him. He’s an asshole, but he’s not that kind of asshole…

-But then…That could only leave one possibility…

-Aguri is playing him! She’s using him, fluffing up his feelings to turn him into a walking vending machine! He’s probably paying for every round at the arcade, for every canned drink, for this two-timing pink-haired harlot! This girl is playing his innocent geek heart, and he must be coming to Karen because he’s desperate and needs to ask for money from the rich girl! It all makes SENSE! She doesn’t like Keita, but she can’t watch a fellow geek be fucked with like this! She has to save him so he can find happiness (far far away from her and her entire life)!

-Oh, and Tasuku is really using Keita for his OWN games. This event isn’t just to help Keita out…It’s to draw Aguri! Then, Tasuku can hide in the crowd, watch Aguri, and see how she reacts…He’ll know for sure if she’s fallen for Keita! If his girlfriend is falling off to grab nerd-boy…He’ll, fucking, KNOW! It’ll all work! She’ll never suspect that she’s being watched…If this is just a friendship, she’ll be happy for her buddy Keita! If it’s more, oh, her reaction will be all he needs to confront her with her cheating ways! It’s a PERFECT PLAN!

-And everyone just kind of stares at Tasuku.

-Back to Aguri, who has taped her chart back together! If Tasuku is really after Karen, he’ll be disappointed if she becomes Keita’s friends. She’ll be hiding for him, watching and waiting…And if he’s after Chiaki, then he’ll be looking to her, worried that Keita will snatch her away! She’ll be able to get all the data she needs! -To Chiaki, who’s decided that Keita is coming as a cry for help! It’s an SOS, a beg to get him away from this fiendish socialite who’s using his better nature against him, because he doesn’t have the heart to dump Aguri outright…She’ll have to be there, to see what’s going on! And to be ready to get Aguri to leave Keita alone! It’s a PERFECT PLAN!

-To Keita, who thinks fun things are fun.

-Swing back to Tasuku, who realizes that if Aguri and Keita are actually dating, then this whole thing is a farce! What will he do if he sees Aguri look to him with guilt and fear for her actions…That would be the worst possible thing! But, okay, that’ll never happen. It’ll be fine. (That’s what’s gonna happen)

-Whip cut to Aguri! Who, oh god, what if Tasuku looks to her for her reaction? It’ll prove he’s two-timing! Checking for his girlfriend at a gathering of miscreants and two-timers…That’s what a player would do. But no, her Tasuku would never be that awful. It’ll be fine. (It won’t be) She’s so smart and crafty! (Too clever by half)

-Slam the camera to Chiaki! What if Aguri and Tasuku look to each other, all guilty? They might be in on this together! His friends are here for him! He can do this! And as everyone stares and watches…He stammers, but, okay, deep breath…This is really hard…

-Oh that sorrow face…

-But…She seems so focused…Oh god she must be preparing to reject him! And Tasuku isn’t even looking at him! None of them are looking at him! They don’t want to see him in the moment of defeat, it’s the only thing that makes sense! But, that also proves something…He has friends. Tasuku, jerk that he is. Aguri, even with her head in the clouds. Chiaki doesn’t count. Mono-san, who’s been with him since day one of their shared game! Flora, whose happy ending he has a save file for he can return to at any time! Deep breath! Do this! However it goes, he doesn’t need Karen’s approval…He can be happy even if she turns him down!

-So Karen tries to hold herself strong. However this goes, she has to hear him out. She has to speak from the heart, even if that means pain. She owes it to herself, and to the boy she loves!

-So countless memories flash through Keita’s mind. Their first proper meeting. That day in the club. Their walk. The arcade challenge.
