As someone who loves seeing family dynamics in fiction, Yugioh Zexal came for my fucking throat.
There's Yuma, who misses his parents and lives with his grandma and older sister, who looks up to his father as a sort of idol and chooses to sleep in the attic with all the stuff brought back from their adventures because he still misses them so much.
There's Shark, who lost his parents as a child and then had to deal with his twin sister Rio ending up comatose in the hospital. Shark and Rio bicker and go at each other, but hurt one and you Will have the other coming for you.
There's Kaito, whose whole focus was on helping his younger brother Haruto recover, even if it meant damning himself in the process. He sacrifices his own well being via Photon Change time and time again for Haruto's sake, and puts up with so much from his shitty father, all for his baby brother.
And then there's the Arclights. The family patriarch Byron was betrayed and came back years later swearing revenge, using his sons as pawns in his scheme. The boys are also messed up, between V's emotional distance, IV's sadistic tendencies, and III's self sacrificial desperation to protect his family no matter the cost. And yet, the three brothers do still care about each other despite it all, remaining loyal to their broken little family despite knowing their position.
Zexal was so good on that front. It's one of my favourite YGO series.

It's still 03/03 for... A hour here, so I still have time to post my tribute!
So, since my Cookie-fication of Astral had a discreet success, why not give him a companion?
Meet Dragée Cookie! Don't be fooled by his sweet sugar coating, when needed he can be as hard and crunchy as his almond interior!
(Some personal considerations under the cut!)
The basis for my III Cookie design were confetti/comfits (a sweet confectionary usually made of dried fruits covered in sugar), a pretty popular sweet here in Italy, which I've used for his hair. Going on with the drawing, though, I started using similar kinds of confectionaries that don't classify as comfits: hence the more general(?) name dragée.
(I'm not a native English speaker, so if there's any suggestion for a better name I'm ready to hear!)
I wanted to go for a simple design to fit the Cookie Run style betted but it ended up pretty complicated, so I may revise it sooner or later. I'm still pretty satisfied with it: the character is recognizable and I think I did a good job with the food theme I've chosen!
If Michael was in CRK, he definitely would be a Parfaedia student! I totally see him attending Eclair Cookie's History classes and maybe befriending Olive Cookie, an archeologist (his dream job)!
On class and placement: I've picked up Support because, well, that's what he does in the anime. In most of his duels (and he's only had a handful) he was either carrying out orders or supporting other characters. His solo duel with Yuma, although epic, hasn't him fully in himself and that's a pity. It'd be nice to see him dueling of his own volition and on his own!
Support Cookies are super useful though (hell, one of them is my main healer) so he lucked out :D
Middle placement: unusual choice for a Support, maybe, but I think it fits. He's not as flashy and spotlight-hogging as IV, nor he plays on stealth and defense like V. So he's stuck with this.
I'd be super happy to hear your thoughts if you have any!

Arc-V Arc-lights
The idea is that III and IV both attended the same duel school as Kaito, and V was a teacher there. IV also graduated and became a pro duelist after Kaito did.
After the invasion IV and III fight as a team to fend off the invaders while V is trying to figure out how to bring back people who were turned to cards.
